Chapter 8: In the Capital
by AfuhfuihgsIn the Capital
Kasha came to find me as I skipped breakfast and worked in my office.
“Master. It’s time for you to go to the academy.”
“…Okay. Call Luna too.”
“Yes.”
I returned to my room and put on my going-out clothes.
The height of extravagance, draped in luxury.
It was too much for a country baron to wear, but Scarl Bernatore, who came to the capital, would think he should wear it even if he had to take out a loan.
I had to dress this much to hear, “Scarl Bernatore is trash, just like the rumors say.”
‘Something’s missing.’
The figure reflected in the mirror was flashy, but somehow too neat.
I casually swept my bangs back with my hand to create my usual rebellious look, and loosened my wrist buttons and tightly knotted tie to add a free-spirited character.
‘This is Scarl Bernatore.’
Since I was going to the academy, I wore a ring with built-in transformation magic as a precaution, and got into the large carriage waiting in front of the mansion, waiting for Luna.
‘What will she be wearing?’
I didn’t give any special instructions, trusting that the clever Kasha would have dressed her up nicely.
But knowing Luna’s personality, she might show up in her maid outfit as an act of rebellion.
‘…Still, it’s the day she meets her sister, so wouldn’t she show up in casual clothes?’
I inwardly recalled the clothes I had bought her.
‘I bought her clothes that Scarl would buy, mixed with my taste… but it wouldn’t be Luna’s simple taste.’
Knock knock.
“Scarl. It’s Luna.”
I wondered what she would look like.
“Come in.”
I couldn’t manage my expression as soon as I saw her, and turned my head to the window.
She didn’t lose out to Scarl.
Rather, the unique fullness of women’s clothing and the sparkle of various accessories harmonized with Luna’s beautiful appearance, shining brilliantly like a sparkling jewel.
Clothes make the woman, and Luna, sitting in front of me, was the epitome of a glamorous noblewoman.
“Scarl?”
“…Let’s go.”
The coachman, who had been waiting outside, bowed his head and closed the door.
The carriage moved slowly.
Clatter clatter.
Soundproofing magic was activated, and the inside of the carriage became quiet.
“…”
“…”
Unlike me, who kept looking out the window, Luna only looked at me.
I couldn’t avoid her gaze forever, so I looked straight ahead, and met Luna’s expressionless face.
She moved the corners of her mouth this way and that, sneering.
“Did you like the clothes I bought you?”
Luna answered sarcasm with sarcasm.
“…If it weren’t for Flare’s tuition.”
‘Thank goodness. Flare wrote the amount of her monthly tuition in her thank-you letter.’
After a moment of silence, Luna asked.
“That ring. I haven’t seen it before…”
“It’s a ring with defense magic.”
Luna let out a small sigh.
For some reason, her expression seemed softer, so I asked again.
“I asked why you wore that.”
This time, Luna avoided my gaze.
“…Kasha said I shouldn’t dress carelessly when meeting my sister.”
‘Nice, Kasha!’
Suddenly, Luna put her hand in her cleavage and pulled down her clothes.
“It’s uncomfortable. I don’t know how noble ladies wear things like this.”
The sight of her swaying at her gesture reminded me of the breasts I saw yesterday.
“…Restrain yourself.”
“What?”
I forcibly averted my gaze from her exposed cleavage where her finger was caught.
‘I can’t have her change her clothes when we get back.’
I was bothered by the off-the-shoulder style and the deeply cut bust that I had liked just a moment ago.
…Isn’t it enough for Scarl to see the service scenes?
I handed her the coat I had taken off with an expressionless face.
“Take it.”
Luna took the coat and only blinked.
‘She doesn’t understand the meaning at all.’
“…Put it on. I need to mark you as mine.”
And cover up the exposed skin, too.
At those words, she put my coat on her shoulders and smiled knowingly.
“I understand. Scarl.”
That was the entirety of our conversation until we arrived at the academy.
The carriage stopped, and I could hear the sounds outside.
“We have arrived, Master.”
I didn’t know how long it took to arrive because I was avoiding Luna’s persistent gaze.
“Let’s get out.”
“Yes.”
“That’s the dormitory where Flare is staying. She’ll be in room 201.”
“Thank you, Scarl.”
Luna entered the women’s dormitory, and I decided to take a quick look around the academy.
“I’m going for a walk.”
“I’ll be waiting in the carriage.”
I walked along the promenade that ran along the side of the dormitory, admiring the enormous size of the academy grounds.
Thump thump thump
I faintly heard the sound of someone being hit from somewhere.
Who is it? A random encounter?
With an excited heart at the familiar progression in the game, I activated the ring.
The built-in appearance was a weak and clumsy young man with shaggy hair, 180 degrees different from Scarl.
The clothes also changed to the academy uniform inside the ring, truly a ring item straight out of a game.
In this form, no matter what I did in the academy, it wouldn’t affect the character of Scarl, so I bought it while touring the black market.
The sound of beating grew louder as I got closer.
Thwack! Thwack!! Thwack thwack!
Ha. Look at this bitch.
She doesn’t even scream once.
I told you, she’s fun to hit even though she’s a commoner? See, she has better endurance than a man!
Two men and one woman.
‘They’re beating a girl…?’
Crack!
I stepped on a branch, meaning to get a little closer.
“Who’s there!”
“Hey, that bastard saw us?!”
“What? He’s a commoner?”
“Hey! You, come here.”
“If you run away, you’ll end up like her!”
“You’re going to get caught anyway. Come here!”
It was a common sight in the game.
Random Encounter ‘Noble Gang’
Since I wouldn’t get caught no matter what I did in this form, I walked out comfortably.
“Ha! You’ve got guts for someone who looks like you do?!”
“You little punk!”
“What? He’d be okay if we just messed up his hair? Hey! Come here so your sister can see your face!”
As I approached as they called, a fist suddenly flew and landed in my stomach.
‘I guess I shouldn’t dodge with this face?’
The inheritance passive was activated, and it was a chore to pretend to be hurt by the fist that felt like a feather.
“Oh? You’re not lowering your eyes?”
“You’re holding up pretty well? Huh?”
“He’s more fun to hit than that beggar Flare.”
‘Flare? Why are you here?’
I crouched down and wondered how to make these guys’ lives miserable when Flare, who had come to her senses, stood in front of me.
“Stop it! Why are you bullying this person! Emma! I’ll pay you back the money I borrowed by tomorrow— Kyaa!”
Flare flying away after being slapped looked like it was in slow motion.
‘Shit. They hit Flare in front of my eyes?!’
I swept my bangs back.
I frowned like Scarl would and stood in front of them.
“What? Are you angry because you’re being protected by a woman? Huh?”
“He’s got some endurance? Should we call this bastard instead of Flare from now on?”
“Look at his face. He can’t even snitch? Anyway, commoners will obviously not be able to pay back if we give them some money…”
There was no need to control my strength.
I punched the talking guy in the mouth.
Thwack!!
His nose was crushed, and teeth and blood flew everywhere.
He fell straight back and couldn’t get up again.
“Sebastian!”
“You little bastard, I let you get away with it!”
I raised my knee and slammed it upwards into the guy on the left who was running at me.
I knocked him unconscious by hitting the back of his head as he gasped for breath, unable to breathe because my knee was stuck in his solar plexus.
As the two were crushed in an instant, the remaining girl ran away without loyalty.
‘There’s no need to catch her.’
I didn’t know which noble’s kids they were, but I had one more thing to ask Kasha to do.
‘Emma and Sebastian, and one unknown guy.’
I dusted off my hands and approached Flare, who had hit her head on the ground and fainted again.
‘I haven’t been paying enough attention…’
Her uniform was torn here and there.
There were no bruises or bloodstains, but she didn’t look good covered in dirt.
From what I heard, this wasn’t the first or second time this had happened…
‘I’ll make sure those bastards can’t set foot in the academy.’
I had plenty of money anyway.
I picked her up and moved her to a safe place, and Flare, who had regained consciousness, opened her eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“Wh-who are you?”
A moment of silence.
“…My name is Hati. I’m your senior. I was passing by and came to save you.”
“Thank you, Senior.”
I was glad that my improvised lie worked.
I put Flare down from my arms.
“Can you walk? Be careful.”
I noticed her tattered uniform.
‘…Luna will worry if she goes like that.’
An excuse that she was late from playing would be more plausible, and I could just buy her some clothes.
“Senior! Let me treat you to tea!”
Even if Flare hadn’t grabbed me like this, I would have called her back.
“Let’s go. I’ll buy it for you.”
I naturally took the lead.
Flare followed me quickly, not wanting to miss me.
“Yes?! I was the one who was helped…”
“It’s okay. Juniors are supposed to be treated by seniors. Are you okay?”
“Being strong is my best trait!”
Flare kept going back and forth, as if she was worried about my clothes.
“Why?”
“There’s dust on your clothes…”
At those words, I dusted off the dirt on my clothes.
I only had a little dirt on my clothes, but you have torn places.
“…You too.”
Flare smiled cheerfully as she dusted off my clothes as well.
“Hehehe! I’m okay. This is a clean day for me!”
‘I’m going to kill those bastards no matter what. I’m going to destroy the kids who touched Flare, and the parents who didn’t educate them properly.’
I couldn’t manage my expression, so I covered my face with my hand, and she approached me with a worried expression.
“Are you okay? Are you feeling dizzy somewhere?!”
“…No.”
Even after going through such a difficult thing, she treats me so freely.
‘Luna was like this when I first met her… Like sisters.’
