A woman was running through a zombie-infested street while carrying a child in her arms.
However, the surrounding zombies didn’t register the mother and daughter. More accurately, they recognized them as fellow zombies.
“Mom… Not that way. The left path.”
“Urrrr…”
The girl in her arms directed the woman carrying her.
They couldn’t stop. If they rested even for a moment, they would surely be caught.
In this ruined world that was teeming with all sorts of strange zombies, the most dangerous beings were, of course, the crazy Players.
‘I can never… ever go back…’
The girl had escaped from a den of lawless individuals, a converted sports center.
A place filled with cages holding countless captured humans and the wicked individuals who tormented them.
Having narrowly escaped, the girl vowed never to return to that horrifying place.
And she vowed to kill all those who murdered her and her parents.
‘Bastards… I will have my revenge… I’ll kill you all…’
She vowed revenge while being held in the arms of her already dead mother.
Until last week, they had been part of an ordinary survivor group, the kind you could find anywhere.
Although she wasn’t Awakened back then, her father was, so she and her mother had lived relatively comfortably and were treated with respect.
Even though the government had collapsed, the communication networks were down, and the water and electricity were cut off, there was still hope for survival. They had plenty of food from raiding supermarkets and food banks, and although the zombie attacks had intensified, the increasing number of Awakened made it bearable. They also had a number of firearms, deterring any potential looters.
But on Monday of this week, the day the new update began and the day most firearms stopped working, her survivor camp was attacked by the lawless.
Crazy individuals who called themselves “Liberators” or “Freedom Worshippers” who were hunting down survivors.
They attacked fellow humans even more relentlessly than zombies.
Wicked individuals who persistently targeted survivors.
They even approached groups while pretending to be good citizens in need of help.
It started with two men. They claimed to be in dire straits and pleaded to be taken in.
The leader of the survivor camp who took pity on them opened the gates, and that night, the two men killed the guards and opened the camp’s gates.
The others, who were waiting outside, stormed in as soon as the gates opened at dawn. That was the end.
Countless men were killed, their necks snapped, and the women were violated. The remaining survivors were dragged to the lawless individuals’ horrifying den.
The girl and her parents were among the survivors taken to the den.
“Hey! Where are you!? Come out now!”
“Get your ass out here!”
“Shut up and find them! You bastards!!”
The girl escaped with her mother and father.
But they were discovered and chased. If they were caught, they would suffer a fate worse than death.
The lawless individuals were capable of such atrocities.
“They’ve come this far…”
The lawless individuals mercilessly killed the humans they brought to their den.
Their killings were without reason. They simply massacred for entertainment.
Their leader said he killed people for fun, just for fun.
They killed, raped, and burned to satisfy their base desires, lusts, and cravings.
They even took someone’s child hostage and forced the parents to stab each other to death.
And finally, they slaughtered the surviving mother in front of her child.
They were ruthless.
Scum who deserved to die.
She had been trapped in a cage while forced to watch her parents’ deaths.
“Ji-soo…”
“Honey… No… Honey…”
“Ji-soo, hurry…”
“Kill her!!! I want to see you bastards die in front of your daughter!!!”
“Kyaaaaa!!! Mom!!!”
Her father told her mother…
“Kill me.”
He said those bastards wouldn’t spare the men anyway.
He asked her to kill him and survive, to take care of their daughter, Eun-ha. It was essentially an escape.
A man’s escape, seeking death at his wife’s hand before suffering a fate worse than death.
“Sob…”
Her mother, with tears of blood streaming down her face, plunged a dagger into her father’s heart. She stabbed the heart of her husband, who had offered himself as a sacrifice, his arms spread wide.
Thus, her mother survived.
She had to survive to protect her daughter, even if it meant being humiliated. To protect her only daughter, who couldn’t use her lower body.
But her resolve was in vain.
They beheaded her mother in front of her daughter.
“Hahahaha!! Look at that kid’s face!!!”
“Kihahaha! Why? What? Did you really think we would spare you? Haha!!!”
“Stupid bitch!!!”
They mocked and violated the parents’ corpses in front of their daughter, who couldn’t even shed tears.
They laughed and tormented her, reveling in her distorted expression.
They were insane. Everyone was insane, caught in a spiraling vortex of chaos.
In the end, the daughter, who was left alone, took her own life. She believed there was no point in surviving in this hellish world.
Blades were everywhere. She picked one up and stabbed herself in the neck.
Then it happened. A miracle, or perhaps a misfortune.
They didn’t know.
That she Awakened by killing herself.
That she had been waiting for a chance to escape while blending in with the corpses.
“Ah!!! There she is!!!”
Of course, she was discovered pathetically.
“Oh…”
The girl couldn’t imagine the horrors she would face if she was dragged back to the den.
Although she was essentially a corpse now, she could still feel pain.
“Dad… I’m sorry…”
So she decided to sacrifice her father once more to prolong her miserable existence.
She had finally gained the power to take revenge. She would survive and wipe them out.
She couldn’t be captured.
“Urrr…”
The corpse following her, obeying her command, ran in the opposite direction.
“Sob… Corpse Explosion…”
Son Ha-eun, while shedding tears of blood, detonated her father… the being that was her father.
Bang!!
“Uaaah!!! My leg!!!”
“That bitch!!!”
Many of the lawless individuals chasing after her were injured and collapsed.
The zombies drawn by the commotion would take care of the rest.
“Urrr…”
The girl hugged her mother, who had been repeating the same moan, tighter and ordered her to run again.
But her escape was cut short.
Crack!!!
One of the lawless individuals who had fallen from the Corpse Explosion threw a spear, and it impaled the girl’s mother.
The girl, who had been in her mother’s arms, was thrown to the ground.
“M-mom… Ah… Aaaah…”
The girl cried while clutching her broken mother’s skull.
A being revived once couldn’t be revived again.
This was a true farewell.
“Die… You bastards!! Please!! Die!!”
“What did you say?!”
Thud!
The pursuing lawless individuals stomped on the screaming girl.
The girl, already dead and a corpse, groaned and gradually started to die under their relentless kicks.
If this continued, she would be shattered like her mother.
The girl was frustrated. Frustrated that she had to die like this. Frustrated that she couldn’t properly avenge herself.
At the same time, she wished for this tragedy to end. She couldn’t bear it any longer.
“H-hey. Wait. What… what’s that?”
“Why? Uh…?”
“No… no head…!”
Bang!!!!
Something was swung, and two of the men were reduced to mincemeat.
“Itchy… Itchy… My neck… is itchy… Uaah…”
“Wh-what… is that…?”
“R-run!!”
The lawless individuals who had been stomping on the girl panicked at the sudden appearance of the monster and started running away frantically.
“Huh…?”
The girl, who had been cowering and taking the blows, looked up at the one who had saved her.
‘Wh-what is this…?’
It was a giant man in black armor.
And strangely, he had no head.
Or rather, he was holding his head in his left hand. The head was muttering incessantly about its itchy neck.
‘Please… just go… Please…’
This unknown being might be even more dangerous than the lawless individuals.
She hoped this monster would just pass her by.
Fortunately, as she wished, the Dullahan passed her.
Crack!!!
Then, it ran towards the fleeing lawless individuals and started bisecting them with its greatsword.
“Uaaah!!!!”
Slash!
Sliced in half. Intestines spilled from the severed torso of the lawless individual.
“Fi-fireball!!!”
Crack.
A fist slammed into the face of the lawless individual who was about to cast a fireball, crushing his head.
“Gasp… I… I can’t… breathe…”
Crack.
The Dullahan grabbed the neck of a fleeing man with one hand, lifted him, and then squeezed, separating his head from his body.
Meaningless deaths littered the streets. The girl shuddered at the overflowing death.
What had saved her in the nick of time was truly a Death Knight.
It wasn’t even a fight. The headless warrior simply swept away the lawless individuals like insects.
“Ah, that bastard. I told him to capture them, not kill them… Hey, and who are you?”
Just as the girl was stunned by the Headless Knight, someone spoke from behind her.
“Huh…?”
It was a grotesquely distorted man, his appearance fragmented as if pixelated.

“Are we continuing the patrol?”
Ha-young asked me what I intended to do. She looked a little tired.
Unfortunately, she was the only one among us who could detect humans, so she had to stick with me for now.
“Of course. We have to keep searching until we find a Field Boss, right?”
“Yes… but Oppa, just a drop of blood…”
“Huh? You just drank some.”
“I… want more…”
“Alright. Here.”
“Hehe… Thanks…”
I offered my neck to Ha-young.
She smiled and hugged me while gently biting my neck.
“Mmm… Good… Master… your blood… is the best… You know what happens tonight, right…? You won’t be able to sleep.”
Ha-young went into heat whenever she drank my blood. I would be relentlessly drained tonight.
“I want to go too…”
“Eun-ji, you’re staying home this time, okay?”
“Okay… Lucky Ha-young.”
This time, I decided to take only Ha-young and the Dullahan with me, leaving Eun-ji behind.
Eun-ji had used up quite a few skills while we were fleeing from the Dullahan.
She had repeatedly thrown weapons created with Shadow Weaving to trip the Dullahan’s skeletal steed.
“We’ll be back.”
“Okay…”
Eun-ji looked dejected while apologizing for being useless against the Dullahan.
I pinched her cheeks and told her not to think that way. She had done her part.
And Eun-ji’s true strength lay in surprise attacks and assassinations, not frontal assaults.
She was helpless against the Dullahan simply because it was a bad matchup.
We set off on patrol again while bidding farewell to those remaining at the supermarket. Our goal was to capture those four bastards who had abandoned the Dullahan onto us and ran away.
“Sniff sniff… Hmm…”
“Can’t you find them?”
“It’s not that… The scent of blood… is overlapping…”
Ha-young frowned while saying that she could smell multiple sources of fresh blood.
“Is it not their scent?”
“No. It’s a scent I’ve never smelled before.”
“A new scent of blood…”
That meant that it wasn’t the Focused Raiders. Ha-young said that the scent of the Raiders was masked by the blood of unknown individuals.
“Did we lose them…? Then let’s follow the new scent of blood for now.”
So we followed Ha-young and headed towards the source of the fresh blood.
And there, we found a talking zombie.

T/N – Okay. At first I hated the MC for being a scumbag, but he mellowed down as the story went on. But now, the author makes these sorts of rabble. It’s as if the author can’t continue the story without writing a scumbag of some sort into the plot.
If you find any mistakes, feel free to point them out in the comments.
