Chapter 78: Winter Whale and Elf
by AfuhfuihgsWhoosh!
Even though it moved slowly, the wind generated by its massive body blew all the snow in the mountains away.
The fin stopped right in front of me and Nightmare, as if inviting us to climb on top.
My thoughts were a tangled mess.
Was it really okay to follow the whale’s lead and step onto its fin?
It didn’t seem like this whale intended to harm me.
I could tell for sure by Nightmare’s calm reaction—something that would’ve been impossible if there were any threat.
Even so, I hesitated, largely because of its enormous size.
“Hmm…”
The massive whale patiently waited for me.
I wasn’t sure how much time had passed.
I wiped the small beads of sweat forming on my forehead and pulled on Nightmare’s reins.
Crunch, crunch—
Understanding my intentions, Nightmare began moving forward, heading toward the giant whale’s fin across the white snowfield.
While walking on the whale’s fin, I noticed that the seed I had stored in the leather pouch was reacting intensely.
Curious, I took the seed out of the pouch, and as expected, it was emanating a green warmth in my palm.
“Could it be…?”
Clutching the seed, I gazed up at the whale’s back.
Though the view was obscured by white clouds, I could sense a similar energy to the seed coming from beyond them.
As if possessed, I tugged on Nightmare’s reins, urging it to ascend the cloud-covered whale’s body.
The whale’s back was vast—unimaginably so.
Perhaps it could rival the size of Karma Empire’s capital if someone were to lift the city into the sky.
After walking for what felt like ages, the white clouds that had been obstructing my vision cleared, revealing a new landscape before me.
What sparkled green were the vibrant leaves of thriving plants, and the haphazardly entwined mass of trees had grown into a colossal wall.
I stood in awe, staring at the enormous forest.
Did all the giant monsters in this world have a peculiar habit of carrying forests on their backs?
Just as I harbored that small doubt, the dense, impenetrable mass of trees began to creak and part, creating a narrow passageway made of thick tree roots.
The pathway seemed to stretch endlessly, cutting through the entire forest.
At that moment, the small breeze that had always hovered near me tugged at my golden hair as if urging me to enter.
Having come this far, turning back wasn’t an option.
Swallowing my dry throat, I took a step toward the tree passageway with Nightmare.
As soon as I entered the passage, the rich scent of grass enveloped me, and I felt my body brimming with vitality.
Was the seed reacting to the forest’s energy?
The seed in my hand began to glow fiercely.
The green life force emanating from it started to bloom flowers in its wake.
For the first time, I experienced flowers blooming with every step I took.
Bewildered, I simply walked forward with Nightmare, heading toward the passage’s end.
Clip-clop, clip-clop—
After what seemed like an endless journey, I finally reached the end of the tree passage. Shielding my eyes with a hand, I looked up as the sunlight streaming down from above momentarily blinded me.
Exiting the passage, what lay before me was a city built atop a massive tree.
Thick, sprawling branches served as roads, and beautifully constructed wooden buildings were perched upon them.
It felt like a scene straight out of the forest where King, the monster, once lived.
At that moment, a small shadow leapt down from above.
The dramatic scene of a figure jumping from such a height was momentarily dizzying, but they landed gracefully as if walking on air, quickly approaching me.
Their platinum-white hair fluttered like a skein of thread.
Riding the wind was an elf woman, her long ears extending sideways and her green eyes shimmering.
She landed in front of me, her melodious voice flowing gently.
“Ayakay. Bbl.”
However, I couldn’t understand what she said.
“Hello?”
“Anbbl…”
Just as I couldn’t understand the elf woman’s words, it seemed she couldn’t understand mine either.
Looking slightly troubled, the elf glanced at the giant tree behind her and murmured softly under her breath.
