Chapter 72: S#12. Texas Top Shark Massacre (4)
by fnovelpia
I opened my eyes.
My head was spinning. My vision was blurry.
It seemed like I had fainted. How much time had passed?
Even though I was on the verge of fainting from confusion, I vividly felt abdominal pain. It felt like I had downed hydrochloric acid in one shot.
I looked down. I saw bullet holes in my abdomen.
“Ugh…”
“Are you coming to your senses?”
As I coughed up blood, an old man’s voice was heard.
He was sitting in a wheelchair.
“Where… am I…?”
“This is the basement.”
A tilted, dark space came into view.
It was closer to an underground bunker than a basement. The desolate scene was surrounded by solid walls.
Red swastika flags and portraits of Hitler were hung everywhere.
The old man’s words suddenly flashed through my mind.
-During World War II, the Nazis developed all sorts of heinous weapons to win the war.
-One of those weapons was transforming sawfish into biological weapons.
The gas station family was remnants of the Nazis.
I tried to move my arms. They wouldn’t budge.
My body was seated in a chair made of bones, shackled by chains.
In front of me was a long dining table. The Nazi family had strewn rotten fruits and human bones across it messily.
The Strode mother and daughter were seated opposite me, bound tightly in bone chairs just like I was.
Nancy was sobbing. Ellen had a blank expression, half out of her mind.
The gas station family had all taken their seats.
The old man’s daughter-in-law and granddaughter were laughing creepily.
A man wearing a tattered gas mask and a Nazi uniform made strange, gurgling sounds.
“That’s my son. We call him ‘Naziface.'”
He was the son who was said to have died in the sawfish attack.
Instead of a hand, his right arm was equipped with a machine gun. It was the MG42, known as ‘Hitler’s Chainsaw.’
“But you said your son… was dead…”
“He is dead. But I never said he was gone.”
The old man laughed hideously.
Only then did I understand. He had resurrected his dead son.
I had forgotten that this world was a crazy horror movie.
The Smith couple and the Hyper sisters, all the mad scientists I had met so far, were trying to revive the dead.
The Smith couple had failed, but it seemed the Nazi family had succeeded.
The man in the gas mask reeked of rotting flesh.
“I remodeled my dead son into the ultimate Nazi bio-turret.”
“Why would you do something like that…”
“Of course, to protect the remaining family from the sawfishes! You have no idea what it’s like to be relentlessly pursued by a creature made from melted souls.”
“You created the sawfishes…”
“Yes. The underground sawfishes were my first masterpiece. But they took my second masterpiece, my son! So I created my third masterpiece, the modified son.”
The old man with one leg in the wheelchair patted Naziface’s back.
Nancy’s story about the piranha came to mind.
A piranha that swam up the sewer pipes to take revenge on the owner who flushed it down the toilet.
The sawfishes were that piranha.
Furious avengers, chasing to kill the master who had twisted their bodies…
The old man suddenly clapped his hands.
Then his granddaughter stood up and brought a large sledgehammer and a funnel.
Naziface trembled, letting out a castrated pig-like wail. Madness was in the air.
The old man grabbed the sledgehammer his granddaughter brought.
“It’s slaughter time!”
Naziface lay down on the floor. The funnel was inserted into the intake valve of his gas mask.
The old man, carrying the sledgehammer on his shoulder, moved his wheelchair.
“I’m going to slaughter you all now. But when the smell of blood wafts, they come running.”
“…”
“So, before the smell of blood spreads, Naziface will slurp up the blood for us!”
The daughter-in-law and granddaughter dragged the Strode mother and daughter in front of Naziface.
Ellen and Nancy struggled, but they were powerless, bound to their chairs.
The wicked daughter-in-law and granddaughter grabbed the Strode women by the nape, forcing their heads down.
As if waiting for this moment, the old man raised the sledgehammer. He was ready to crush the two victims’ heads.
Naziface, lying at their feet with the funnel inserted, was ready to drink the fresh blood.
“Stop…!”
I shouted.
But the chains binding my limbs didn’t loosen.
Hearing Ellen and Nancy’s screams made cold sweat trickle down my face.
I twisted my body desperately to kick the chair.
In the meantime, the heavy sledgehammer moved. Nancy screamed.
“Nooo!”
The sledgehammer, which was about to hit the back of Nancy’s head, stopped midway.
The daughter-in-law and granddaughter stuck out their tongues, licking the back of Nancy and Ellen’s necks.
The old man laughed gleefully.
“Then make a choice. I’ll spare one of the sisters.”
“Sisters? They are mother and daughter.”
“Mother and daughter?”
The old man blinked in surprise.
“Well, it doesn’t matter. I’ll still kill one. You choose who dies, young man!”
“That’s ridiculous…”
“If you don’t choose, I’ll crush both their heads!”
The old man raised the sledgehammer again.
Whoosh- It narrowly missed Ellen’s head and hit the floor.
The daughter-in-law and young granddaughter cheered, while the Strode women sobbed.
Thick beads of cold sweat dripped down my forehead.
The tension squeezed my heart.
“Ha ha ha ha, hurry up and choose! This time, I’ll really strike!!”
It was a nightmare.
I clenched my teeth and put strength into my bound body.
The chains didn’t break; my body merely wriggled pitifully like a caterpillar skewered on a stick.
The distance to the table’s edge narrowed slightly. But it wasn’t enough to reach Nancy and Ellen.
I couldn’t save them…
In B-grade shark movies, at critical moments like this, a shark usually bursts in and bites the villain.
But now, there was no sign of that happening.
Ellen’s eyes welled up with tears.
“Su… Sum… Summer…”
“…”
“This is my last request… Save Nancy.”
I couldn’t bring myself to answer.
The old man raised the sledgehammer again.
If I didn’t choose between Ellen and Nancy, both would die.
“Hey, young man! Who will you kill and who will you save? Choose now!!”
The old man shouted.
I took a deep breath and gave the answer.
“……F*ck off.”
I moved my bound body again.
I slammed my torn, bullet-riddled abdomen against the table edge. My ripped stomach convulsed.
Then, I bent my head forcefully and slammed my mouth onto the table.
Bang-
I did it with the intent to break all my teeth.
The wound in my abdomen, pressed against the table edge, tore open, and my gums were crushed.
It hurt terribly, but I pushed the pain aside. The blood surging up from my stomach mixed stickily with the blood in my mouth.
“What is this? Why are you suddenly self-harming?!”
The Nazi family was bewildered by my unexpected action.
I compressed and sprayed the blood I had gathered in my mouth.
Splat-
Like a Godzilla beam, the sprayed blood hit the granddaughter’s face directly.
“M… Muss verrückt sein…!!”
The girl, drenched in blood, screamed in incomprehensible German.
I gathered more blood from my insides and spat again.
…A scene from a B-grade shark movie.
I had to create it myself.
“That, that, that bastard!”
The old man realized my plan and was horrified.
Soon, the wall was smashed.
I had been waiting.
A shark, attracted by the thick scent of blood, rushed in.
A blazing giant sawfish broke through the wall and rammed its head in.
The fiery saw pierced the girl deeply.
In that state, the shark violently thrashed its head, slicing the body impaled on its saw. The sharp, wild sawblade cut through the chains that bound me.
The child impaled on the saw was dismembered, scattering limbs and intestines everywhere.
The Nazi family stared blankly at what used to be their granddaughter.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!”
The daughter-in-law wailed in agony.
Naziface, who had been lying down with a funnel in his mouth, sprang up and attacked the sawfish that had broken through the bunker wall.
He aimed the machine gun attached to his right hand.
Rat-a-tat-tat, he fired, punching bullet holes into the shark’s head.
The old man screamed and swung the sledgehammer wildly.
Taking advantage of the chaos, I picked up Ellen and Nancy.
I headed outside, leaving the ruined bunker behind.
“Those bastards! They’re escaping!!”
The old man screamed furiously from behind.
“Catch them! Naziface, catch them!!”
The sound of the machine gun firing, like a chainsaw engine, grew closer.
Naziface was chasing us.
Ellen and Nancy’s legs were weak.
Of course, I wasn’t in good shape either. Still, I mustered all my strength to support the Strode women.
We hurriedly climbed into a truck. The key was in the ignition.
I put Ellen in the driver’s seat, Nancy in the passenger seat, and I got into the cargo bed.
As the engine started, the Nazi daughter-in-law blocked our path.
Ellen didn’t hesitate and slammed on the accelerator.
“Die!!!!”
The truck plowed into the woman. Her body was completely crushed under the wheels.
Naziface, emerging next, fired his machine gun.
But the bullets missed, and the firing stopped. The magazine was empty.
Now, Naziface had no daughter, no wife, and no bullets.
He pounded his chest, making an orangutan-like wailing sound in frustration.
He looked around for something to throw at the truck.
Next to him was the old man in the wheelchair. Naziface picked him up.
“Ahhhh! What, what are you doing!? Stop, my son!!”
The old man screamed.
Naziface threw the old man and his wheelchair at us. Of course, it didn’t reach.
I only heard the sound of the old man’s neck breaking as he hit the ground.
The truck sped away.
Dawn was breaking.
With the rising red sun behind him, Naziface swung ‘Hitler’s Chainsaw’ MG42 madly.
It was a terrifying dance, embodying the history of violence.
Sitting in the truck bed, I watched Naziface’s figure recede into the distance and gave a bitter smile.
But then, the ground shook. The area around the gas station rose.
A massive sawfish head, the size of a building, erupted from the ground.
It was a Megalodon, straight out of a movie. The sand surged like waves.
“Oh my God…”
I couldn’t believe such a monster existed.
My mouth hung open.
The gigantic jaws engulfed the gas station building. It was a grand sight.
The horrific past was swallowed whole. The colossal sawfish sank back into the sand after filling its belly.
But it was too early to relax.
A 30-meter dorsal fin suddenly emerged.
It cut through the sand, racing across the wasteland.
Its target was our truck. The approaching tremors made it hard to breathe.
“Ellen! Go faster!!”
“This is as fast as it goes…!!”
No matter how desperately she pressed the accelerator, it was no use. It was the limit of the old truck.
The colossal sawfish was incredibly fast despite its size.
The dorsal fin drew closer and closer. At this rate, we’d be caught.
For a monster that had swallowed a gas station whole, a truck was just a small bite.
I suddenly realized.
“…It’s because of me.”
Nancy, sitting in the passenger seat, turned her head.
“What are you saying, Summer…?”
“It’s following the scent of blood.”
My battered body was drenched in blood. It was strange that the sawfish hadn’t been chasing us due to the smell.
The dorsal fin drew close. The truck wobbled on the rising ground.
I had only one thing to do.
“Ellen. I’ll buy us some time.”
“What are you saying?!”
I pulled out an axe and slashed my wrist with the sharp blade.
It hurt like hell. Blood gushed out.
Nancy turned pale at this second act of self-harm.
“Summer, why are you doing this…”
“Nancy, Ellen. Don’t stop the truck no matter what.”
I jumped out of the truck.
I rolled on the ground, staggering to my feet amid the rising sand clouds.
I pushed off the ground with all my strength, sprinting in the opposite direction of the truck.
The dorsal fin, cutting through the air, sharply changed course. It had caught the scent of fresh, tantalizing blood.
It was after me. Thanks to that, the truck was safe now.
I kept running. My breath was heavy.
But fate doesn’t change. The pursuit of death was fast. In the end, I’d be eaten.
Yes, this crazy horror movie ends here. It’s time to roll the end credits.
After the last scene, Nancy and Ellen’s lives would go on.
The killer exits, and the final girl lives happily ever after. A good ending.
It’s a bit disappointing not to say goodbye… but this is enough.
I stopped running.
I turned around and saw the long saw rising. It was as straight as a Nazi salute.
The head of the sawfish emerged. It was enormous.
The gaping jaws were wider than most tunnels. Beyond the densely packed teeth was an endless darkness.
I quietly closed my eyes.
The jaws swallowed me whole.
The sawfish consumed the blood-soaked man.
A satisfying feast. It turned its dorsal fin.
On the other side, the truck sped across the wasteland.
Inside, Nancy Strode’s sobs filled the air.
She hadn’t even dated Summer, let alone married him. And now he was shark bait in Texas…
She couldn’t accept it.
Nancy, convulsing with grief, pleaded with Ellen to turn the truck around.
“Stop it, Nancy, it’s useless…”
“If we go back now, we might be able to save him!”
“No. Summer is already…”
“Are you just going to give up like this?!”
Nancy shouted.
“Mom, you’re crying too…!!”
“Summer sacrificed himself for us. How could I not cry?!”
“Is that really why you’re crying…? Not because you lost the man you love?”
“Nancy, you knew… didn’t you…”
“What? I was just guessing, but did you really love Summer…?”
“……”
“Loving your daughter’s boyfriend, what a joke! Are you even a mother?”
“You weren’t even in a relationship!!”
Mother and daughter started crying and fighting.
“Mom is a human too! I’m lonely…!!”
The brakes were pressed. The truck came to a stop.
Ellen cried, pressing her forehead against the steering wheel. The horn blared loudly.
Painful memories resurfaced. A tremor arose deep in her chest, under her ribcage.
She had vowed never to lose a loved one again…
Never again…
Ellen lifted her head.
Her expression was resolute, as if she had made a decision.
“Nancy… you’re right.”
We have to save Summer.
Leaving despair and regret behind, she turned the steering wheel.
They headed back to the place where Summer had thrown himself.
We’ll save him somehow. Just as Summer always did.
In the distance, a brown mountain appeared.
On closer inspection, it wasn’t a mountain but the monstrous sawfish rising from the ground. It was colossal.
Summer was nowhere to be seen. He had been eaten.
But Ellen didn’t slow down the truck.
“Mom…!”
“…We have to get revenge. Hit it hard.”
They raced on.
They intended to crash into the sawfish at full speed.
Even if it was like hitting a rock with an egg, even if it meant dying here, they would avenge the loss of their loved one.
Ellen, driven mad by this sudden surge of rage, was out of her mind.
Just before ramming the truck into the massive body—
Ellen hit the brakes.
The truck stopped.
“……Huh.”
Now she saw that the sawfish wasn’t moving at all.
It was a lifeless corpse.
Just five minutes ago, it had been ferociously chasing them across the wasteland.
What had happened?
The bewildered Strode women got out of the truck.
“Could it be?”
The body was like a sheer cliff.
From 50 meters away, they heard a scraping sound.
Soon, an axe blade pierced through the broad belly of the shark.
As the protruding axe blade drew a long vertical line, the peritoneum tore open, spilling blood.
Steam rose. Along with butchered giant intestines, Summer burst forth.
The newly reborn Summer threw himself into the arms of the Strode women.
The warm morning sunlight shone on the three of them.
