    Chapter 70: Golden Hand

    Golden Hand

Karas holds the document he took out of the drawer, staring at it for a long time.

The letters written on the document, touched by his fingertips, felt as if they were coming alive one by one, pressing down on him like Solar’s magic.

This document was not just a play of letters and numbers.

It was crucial information about the guild Solar first showed interest in, the Aiden Guild, and the various forces connected to it.

“She must know what this document means.”

Even he, who was praised as an unparalleled genius in the family, couldn’t dare to present his business card before her.

If her true intention, as she said, was for the sake of Midas…

    “…That can’t be.”

Karas was curious about what choices Solar would make, starting with this document.

It was the will of a shepherd leading a lost lamb, and a role that a seeker following a prophet should naturally play.

    Nobles and commoners.

    Rich and poor.

    Men and women.

    Strong and weak.

None of that mattered before Solar.

Karas neatly folded the document into quarters, holding the edge of the corner precariously, his expression reminiscent of a parent watching a child playing by the river.

“Just what is Scarl Bernatore, that guy?”

How could the guild that bastard created pique her curiosity?

    The next day.

Karas was absolutely dependent on Solar, but at the same time, he didn’t completely trust her.

Thanks to her, he easily inherited the position of successor to Midas, but that was the nature of a high-ranking noble.

He knew very well that anyone could become his enemy, and even a close aide could turn his back at any time.

    “Solar, please review this document.”

Karas’s voice was calmer than usual, but it contained a sense of expectation, yet also a hesitant anxiety.

Normally, Solar would analyze the meaning behind Karas’s words, feel doubts, and ask questions.

But Solar didn’t answer, instead casting a spell on the document. However, unlike usual, the time it took for the document to fly to her was noticeably slow.

She flicked her fingers, floating the quartered document in the air and began to analyze the letters one by one.

Her eyes, as if she were trying to remember everything written there, didn’t even notice Karas staring intently at her.

The document emitted a transparent light due to the magic, and the letters gradually disappeared and reappeared.

A slight tremor in her pupils.

Lips slightly more parted than usual.

Her body was leaning towards the document, and her fine hairs were standing on end as if she were nervous.

Her magic constantly combed through the forest of documents, as if searching for something hidden.

    “Master, this document…”

Karas felt that she was excited right now.

It was regrettable that the first being she was interested in was from outside the family.

He first thought that the fact that the guy had built up his family with money made him comparable to himself, who had inherited everything.

Karas tried to maintain his composure as much as possible.

But Solar tilted her head towards Karas like a child urging him on.

“This document is related to the Aiden Guild, isn’t it?”

“Yes… that’s right. Aiden’s reach is gradually expanding, getting closer and closer to our territory. Solar. The reason I’m showing you this document is simple.”

Karas’s brief hesitation was the best he could do.

“Solar. How much interest do you have in them?”

    Scarl Bernatore.

Karas didn’t want to let Solar hear the name of the man he hated most in his heart from his own mouth.

Solar gave Karas a knowing smile, letting the words flow lightly.

Then, after thinking for a moment, she slowly opened her mouth.

“Master, I am only doing what I can to help the family. Nothing more, nothing less.”

Karas tried to erase the doubts that came to his mind as he listened to Solar’s answer.

But the more he did, the more the subtle unfamiliarity he felt in Solar’s attitude amplified his anxiety.

She had always been like the sun to Karas.

A talent that Midas must have, beautiful and young, and a perfect woman who could not become his wife due to her humble status.

She always repeated the same words, but Karas felt that it was not difficult this time to discern the true meaning hidden within them.

“Good. Then this time, you will directly investigate the movements of the Aiden Guild. If it’s you, you will be able to sense their movements.”

Solar nodded, grasping the document floating in the air completely.

Karas swallowed his bitterness, thinking that it was a sign of agreement between them.

    “Understood.”

The unfamiliarity in her appearance disappeared, and she met Karas’s gaze with her usual confident eyes, without avoiding it.

Several days had passed since Solar left.

She seemed to be carrying out her assigned task smoothly. However, in the meantime, Karas began to detect strange movements within the family. Some of his loyal subordinates had disappeared, or inexplicable incidents had occurred one after another.

Karas calmly solved the problems, but the problems continued to occur.

It felt as if an invisible hand was slowly strangling his family.

“Master, another problem has occurred today. Some of the subordinates have left their posts without permission.”

Karas sighed and lowered his head at the words of a new secretary, not Solar.

“This keeps happening. Go out and find out.”

    “Yes.”

The secretary left, and Karas narrowed his brows and pondered.

It was no longer a trivial matter.

Karas felt that something bigger was moving within the family.

    “Solar.”

Had he relied on her too much?

The family members might have been disappointed in him for being swayed by a lowly woman. Perhaps they thought that now that she was away, it was an opportunity to bring him down.

Karas, whose thoughts had reached that point, couldn’t contain his anger and slammed his desk loudly.

    Bang!

    “How dare they…!”

If he remembered what she said when he first met Solar, he couldn’t just leave the dogs that bite their master alone before she came.

“You said you came to find the most special man in the world, Solar.”

That position had to be his.

Scarl couldn’t hide his embarrassment because two people, no, one person and one demon, came to the mansion at the same time.

    “Hmm.”

    “Start with your excuses, Master.”

Luna returned in the same carriage, but she was late in hearing the information about the guest who came to the mansion.

    ‘Why now…’

Two women were waiting for him in the mansion’s drawing room as guests.

More importantly, Luna was suppressing her tremendous anger in front of him.

Luna was glaring at him, sitting in his office with her usual dagger.

    ‘It’s unfair!’

“Miss Io of Haimon, no. Ms. Io is one thing. But someone, somewhere, who said she would never make marriage a condition.”

    “Luna, that’s—”

    “Shut up!”

Didn’t she think the words could be heard outside, Luna? Surely the servants of the mansion knew that Luna had entered with footsteps. Luna, like Flare, had a tendency to rush into things, but it was better to listen to and understand all the circumstances…

He wanted to make a long excuse, but the situation was turning against him more and more like a shortening second hand.

    “I, I trusted you…!”

Scarl sighed and stood up from his seat, standing in front of her, at the sight of Luna trying to turn black.

“I, I’m going to stab you!”

Had he ever seen Luna in such a precarious state recently?

She had been attending the academy, defeating demons, being called a Hero, and showing a dignified appearance as the leader of the party, but Luna was still young.

Scarl remembered and knew very well the woman who had been showing this kind of appearance so naturally until just a few months ago, a woman who had been broken by everything in the world.

So he spread his arms as a sign that he had no resistance and approached her.

Luna’s arm began to tremble violently as Scarl took a step.

    “D-don’t come.”

‘You told me to come sometime.’

He didn’t know what had triggered Luna’s trauma.

As Scarl approached further, Luna’s knife tip faltered downwards. Accordingly, Scarl quickly pushed his body so that the tip of her dagger could accurately aim at his heart.

Scarl finally brought his chest to the dagger Luna was holding.

    “H-huh? Huh!”

Scarl, who was proudly looking down at Luna’s eyes, who had lost her language and could no longer tremble like an aspen tree, began to hug her in that state.

The dagger slowly began to pierce Scarl’s chest.

The closer they got, the closer they got.

    Phew―

    “No―!!”

As Luna released the strength in her dagger-wielding hand with a scream, the dagger, which had been slightly embedded in her chest, fell downwards, unable to overcome gravity.

Luna’s pupils and body staggered, unable to grasp the situation, as Scarl’s front was stained red.

A thick arm firmly grabbed her body.

    “You are mine. Luna.”

    Forever, if you want.
