Chapter 7 : Be My Friend
by AfuhfuihgsIt’s a principle that all students move into the dormitories at the same time as the entrance ceremony.
I’m heading to the dormitory building with Ernia.
Numerous students were staring at me and whispering, but no one approached.
That’s probably thanks to Ernia, who’s guarding me with fierce eyes, wary of her surroundings.
In this situation, she’s more reliable than anyone else.
Following Ernia into the dormitory building, the Teacher in charge hands us our keys.
“The dorms are two people per room, so you two will share a room.”
I was worried I’d be separated from Ernia, but thankfully, I get to use the same room as her.
We go up to the 5th floor, insert the key, and enter to find an ordinary room.
Even to me, who’s been staying at Ernia’s house, the dorm room is very small.
With two of everything, from beds to wardrobes, desks, and drawers, it’s as ordinary as a university dorm room.
If there’s one saving grace, it’s that the room has its own toilet and bathroom.
More than that, I’m curious about Ernia’s reaction.
Even I think the room is small, so how will she react?
But, contrary to my expectations, she looks around, fascinated.
“This is amazing…”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“This kind of commoner atmosphere is a first for me!”
Ah, I see.
So, it’s like a rich young lady experiencing commoner life?
Something I realized while living with Ernia.
She’s very weak in the morning.
“Wake up.”
“Just five more minutes…”
“The lecture starts in five minutes. Are you sure you’re okay with that?”
At my words, she opens her eyes wide and gets up with a strange noise, then looks at the clock.
“6 o’clock…”
“Breakfast starts at 6:30. Let’s go eat.”
“Lecture’s at 9…”
“You need to eat a hearty breakfast to have energy.”
I take care of her, who can’t seem to get her act together, and head to the dormitory cafeteria.
She, who was struggling just a moment ago, is now chattering, looking forward to her first dormitory meal.
“I’m so excited! What do commoners usually eat for breakfast?!”
“They just eat normally.”
Strictly speaking, this is a Magic school for nobles, you know?
I grab a tray and get my breakfast, which consists of soup, bread, and sausage.
I take a bite at the table, and it’s just okay.
“Ugh, what is this?”
And, as I expected, it doesn’t suit the taste of the noble Ernia.
The students around us are also voicing their complaints, which is one of the Magic school’s oldest traditions.
There are three dormitories in the Magic school, and first-year students are assigned to the oldest and most dilapidated one.
And in the second year, they come to a crossroads.
Students with outstanding skills receive good treatment, but those who don’t get nothing.
After finishing my meal, I return to my room and enter the bathroom to prepare for the lecture, when a blue window appears.
【Quest Cleared!】
Rewards will be given.
With those words, a book falls from the ceiling with a thud.
Always so unfriendly.
I check the book and see that it’s an old one.
Nothing is written on it, and it has a black cover. Could it be, a Death Note…?
I open the book and see what’s written inside.
【Walkthrough】
Aw, what a letdown.
But it’s not bad.
Every game has a walkthrough.
Among them was a walkthrough for Arcane Magic School, but I don’t remember all the information.
I only know about hidden rooms, elixirs, and lucky encounters, so I don’t know the details, but with this, there won’t be any problems.
The first thing I see when I turn the first page.
It’s white. Very white.
So white that I can’t see anything.
…Did I get scammed?
Then a new window popped up.
【Quest Received!】
【Join a Club!】
Success: ???
Failure: Game Over.
“……”
I hear a knock while I’m rubbing my face dry.
“Are you done washing up? We should leave soon, or we’ll be late.”
“I’m coming out now.”
I head to the lecture hall with Ernia for our first lecture.
This is also why I forcibly woke her up and fed her breakfast this morning.
Because today is going to be a very long day.
As I enter the lecture hall, I see a familiar face among the unfamiliar students.
It’s my friend number 2, Arden.
“Mr. Arden!”
I wave and say hello, but he turns his head away with a cold look.
Ernia looks at me with surprised eyes at that sight.
“Do you know that obnoxious jerk?!”
Ernia’s voice is so loud that everyone can hear her.
Arden, provoked by those words, stands up from his seat.
“Who are you calling obnoxious?!”
“Who else could it be but you?”
They seem to know each other, and the way they’re fighting is unusual. I calm down the growling Ernia and sit down, and she immediately pushes me to the inside.
Oh my, so forceful.
“That’s trash. He’s useless in life, so if he ever talks to you, curse at him or spit on him and run away. Got it?”
Isn’t that too harsh? More than that, wouldn’t a Commoner be executed for doing that to a noble?
I nod at Ernia, who’s staring at me with fierce eyes, and she finally seems relieved. I whisper in her ear.
“More than that, do you know Mr. Arden?”
You don’t have any friends, do you? Was I the only one who was sincere?
Ernia, who was looking at me with an unpleasant expression at my words, sighs.
“Yes, well. Our families are close, so we’ve talked a few times, but he’s always been so obnoxious whenever we meet…”
Just then, the lecture hall door opens, and the professor walks in.
It’s Professor Millie Allegra, who recommended me to be her assistant.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Professor Millie Allegra, and I’ll be in charge of Magic studies and will be the guidance professor for the students of Class A for the next year.”
With those words, she takes out her staff, and a sense of unease washes over me.
“Since it’s the first day, shall we have a light test?”
The floor of the lecture hall begins to glow, and a huge Magic circle appears.
“The test is simple. Just return to the dormitory! How about that, easy, right?”
Unconsciously, I grab Ernia’s hand, and as soon as I do, my vision changes, and I’m transported to the middle of a forest.
It seems that we’re being moved to random coordinates, as I can’t see anyone other than Ernia, who I grabbed.
“W-What is this…”
Ernia is out of her mind.
“I told you, you should have eaten a hearty breakfast.”
“How did you know?!”
I give her a sly smile, and she finally seems to remember who’s sponsoring me.
She nods and takes my hand to get up. What should I do with our innocent Young Lady?
“Then, shall we try to escape?”
A pigeon that appeared with a bright light flies high into the sky to scout the surroundings and returns to me.
“Coo coo!”
“The escape route?”
“Coo coo coo!”
I take Ernia, who’s watching me communicate with the pigeon with a curious expression, and start heading to the place the pigeon told me about.
Following the pigeon, who said it saw a tall structure.
After wandering through the forest for a long time, Ernia collapses on the spot, saying she can’t go any further.
It’s understandable that a Noble Lady would be like this if she suddenly fell into a forest like this.
Without a choice, I find a staff (a branch) from a nearby tree and swing it once, and her body floats into the sky.
“H-How did you do that?!”
“Magic.”
“No, you just used it as a branch just now?!”
“This is Magic.”
I take her, who’s flustered, and step into the air, rising into the sky, and as the pigeon said, we see a large dormitory building.
But, the distance is wrong.
It definitely said it was close, but if we walk to the dormitory from this distance, it will take at least half a day.
It’s that far, but it said it was close…?

Next to me, I see her floating in the sky, looking around with wonder, while I’m despairing after realizing I’ve been tricked by a pigeon chick, and I want to tease her.
“5…”
“W-Wait a minute!? N-No, right?!”
“4…”
“Kyaa! Let me down!”
I take Ernia, who’s struggling, down to the ground, and walk in the direction of the dormitory with her, who’s breathing heavily.
Then I run into my friend number 2, Arden.
“Mr. Arden!”
“……”
The look in his eyes as he looks at me is unusual. Is something wrong?
He hesitates before bringing up the matter.
“Do you know which way to go?”
…Opportunity?
