    Chapter 69: Golden Hand

    Golden Hand

Karas, entrusting his body to the carriage, gazes at the scenery outside the window.

The same tedious picture he sees every day.

The ripening grains, the golden hue created by nature, were comparable to the sun, but they didn’t register in his eyes.

    “Stop here.”

As soon as his words fall, all the carriages halt in their places.

Karas, stepping out of the carriage first, was a man with golden hair and eyes, genetically inherited traits of the Marquis Midas family.

    “You too, get out. Solar.”

    “Yes, Master.”

The person who followed was a woman with white hair and green eyes, showing no signs of Midas’s characteristics.

Karas, who got out first, was lost in thought, looking out over the vast plains.

The knights who got out of the carriage following behind to escort him didn’t stop her from standing next to Karas.

Karas, who had been staring at the endless rice paddies, turns his head to look at Solar, who followed him.

Her confident green eyes didn’t avoid Karas’s blazing gaze. Rather, she met his eyes with a confident expression, her face bright as if asking what was wrong.

After a moment of confrontation, Karas speaks first.

“…What should I do with this place?”

Karas is known as the next generation’s gold of the Marquis Midas family.

Born into a family that has dominated the world through wealth, his fate was decided from a young age. He didn’t reject the family’s wishes and obediently followed them, so he was able to rise to the position of heir.

However, the heavy responsibility weighed heavily on his shoulders as he grew older.

And, as if by a lie, at the peak of it all.

“Master Karas. Let’s go to the mansion.”

The woman before his eyes came to him.

    “Speak here.”

    The conflict was brief.

“Aren’t there too many eyes watching here?”

When Solar didn’t give in, only wearing a faint smile, Karas gave in.

Thinking of a bridle for an untamable colt.

Reminding himself of what she was interested in.

“Let’s go back. Everyone, go back!”

The carriage took them both to Karas’s mansion.

There, countless documents and troublesome problems waiting for him were piled up like mountains.

Karas skims through the documents, lost in thought.

All of this is ultimately related to the family’s money.

His family had always solved problems with money, and that power sometimes changed the world.

As a descendant of Midas, everyone had to live a life worthy of that name. Karas thought that this responsibility was naturally given to him. But as he grew older, the title of the Marquis family, the Golden Hand, was not just a simple honor.

It was a life of endless calculations, plans, and constant vigilance. He believed that everything could be solved with money, but on the other hand, he knew the hidden pain and fatigue too well.

    He is the limit.

No, now that he has a sharp tool…

    “Solar.”

As he calls her name, she, who was sitting in her seat in the office drinking tea, smiles brightly.

    “Oh my.”

    “Handle everything.”

    “As you command.”

    Snap!

As Solar snaps her fingers, the piles of documents suddenly begin to shake and fly around the office.

Karas, who seems accustomed to this sight, sits in his chair and looks at the ceiling of the office, which is stained with parchment, so as not to disturb Solar.

“It’s really a sight I never get used to, no matter how many times I see it.”

    “Is that a compliment?”

    “Of course.”

Solar was clearly using magic, but her tone and appearance were calm.

The letters with black ink all over the parchment begin to leave Karas’s name and words. And, as if finding their place, they are sorted and begin to descend onto Karas’s desk.

The amount of documents that Scarl would have taken hours or days to complete were all sorted out with a single snap of Solar’s fingers.

Karas’s hand takes out one from the pile of unresolved documents.

As he always does, he directly reviews how accurately she has handled the work.

    “Good work today.”

Solar’s magic is specialized in finding, checking, and analyzing the core of the problem in the documents.

Reading the neatly organized annotations, Karas, who wrote a graceful signature with a fountain pen, envisions his daily life after Solar came to him.

This was only a part of her power.

After using her power, the world called him by the nickname ‘Next Generation Gold’.

Wherever his hand reached, problems were solved, and the family prospered even more.

His touch seemed to have transformed like the legendary King Midas. All transactions and negotiations concluded successfully when they passed through his hands.

    But he had a concern.

    What if Solar leaves?

Karas often thinks back to his childhood.

His father used to say, “There is no problem that cannot be solved with money.” Karas believed those words like the truth. But as he grew older, he realized that the world was more complicated.

The power that the family had built through money was solid, but it also created many enemies. The world ruled by the family was always unstable, and competitors constantly appeared to threaten them.

He is easily leaving them behind now because he has a good tool called Solar.

    If she disappears…

Karas picks up a document that he had kept deep in his drawer.

For some reason, the guild she is most interested in.

Their territory didn’t overlap much with the Midas family, so he left them alone…

Even lifting up such a piece of paper makes Solar’s body lean towards him.

A woman who doesn’t waver at all at his suggestions or temptations.

The mountain of terrible documents brought to the Bernatore Hall of the academy has disappeared.

It was obvious that almost as many new ones would have appeared, but unlike yesterday, Scarl couldn’t tolerate Sophia and Kasha playing around.

“Luna and Flare came back after suffering, so you said you’d help out just for today! Brother. But this amount is just exploitation!”

“That’s right. Master. This is a violation of labor laws.”

Of course, such protests were useless.

Deep down, they must have been aware that they were part of the same hero party.

Should I make Luna and Flare do it too…

Scarl, who was briefly swayed by the devil’s temptation, stopped thinking when Luna knocked and entered.

“Master Scarl. Please have this while you work.”

What Luna brought on the tray was brunch.

For the three people who were constantly using their brains, the sweet-smelling tea, chocolate, and cookies were fantastic assistance.

“Wow! Sister! Me too! Me too!”

“There’s some here for you two. Princess Sophia. Kasha.”

“There’s no one here but us anyway, right? Surely, brother, not us too?!”

    “It’s education time. It’s Master Scarl’s order.”

Then Sophia looks at me with strange eyes.

As I try to make excuses, Luna slightly covers her mouth with the tray she brought, as if she was joking, and laughs out loud.

“Hehehe. Just kidding, Sophia. Our Scarl wouldn’t do that, but…”

    “But?”

“He used to like that kind of thing…”

Luna looks at Scarl and winks slightly, unseen by the two.

    ‘What does that mean…?’

“Are you done with the paperwork, Master Scarl?”

Luna, who approached, looks at the pile of documents that Scarl has finished and looks at him worriedly.

When Luna’s gaze stops at his chapped lips, passing through his dry hair and dark circles under his eyes, Scarl is moved by her concern and bluntly spits out harsh words.

    “Yeah. It’s almost over.”

    It’s only been a week.

“Really. Being a count and a guild master is hard work.”

As Luna said, it’s not easy.

I can’t even last three days after guaranteeing that I’m a transcendent.

It would be nice to have even one more person.

    “That’s right. I wish I could borrow a cat’s paw.”

    “Shall I help you?”

    I won’t fall for the devil’s temptation.

    “Don’t bother.”

As if I’m not the only one who has such thoughts, Sophia and Kasha slam the desk and get up to stop Luna.

“It’s okay, Luna! You should rest! More!”

“It’s okay, Luna. We’re almost done.”

There’s a reason why I don’t entrust paperwork to Luna and Flare.

    ‘It’s terrible.’

This expression is not intended to belittle the two.

It is clear that writing and books are far from the reach of the two commoners, and even now that they are called Heroes, it cannot be helped. Rather than becoming proficient in this kind of work, researching how to efficiently kill demons would be the right fit for them.

That’s why Luna and Flare came to support Haimon.

Even though Sophia may be dissatisfied, the reason why she doesn’t run away, pretending not to know, is because of this.

‘Still, I wish someone knew our situation and helped us.’

Nevertheless, as a human being, it is inevitable to want something comfortable.
