Chapter 57: Something Seems Suspicious (2)

    Just what in the world…

What were these tiny kids talking about that led to discussion of whether the Guild Master kills people or not.

Han Dayeon gaped mindlessly at the absurd conversation.

If Gyeonwoo saw this expression, she’d be shocked – “Sister can make faces like this too!” It was such a stupid look, but unfortunately Han Dayeon had no time to worry about that.

She knew there were dark rumors about the Guild Master circulating.

Whether it was awe stemming from being one of Korea’s three major guilds.

Or infamy from ruthlessly beating down villains.

But he wasn’t someone who’d carelessly harm civilians.

Gyeonwoo must know that too, which is why she reacted so strongly.

    Ah. Our sweet, kind Gyeonwoo.

Though it’s adorable how she defends the fearless Guild Master like this…

The problem was that her audience was innocent children.

This was already a private kindergarten in a wealthy neighborhood. A place where children of all sorts of rich and famous people attended, enough to have connections to the Guild Master.

There was no telling where Gyeonwoo’s words might spread or how they’d be interpreted.

If misunderstood, Gyeonwoo herself could be the one hurt.

She already half-treated the internet like a demon, if she faced public backlash…

    “Haah…”

Just imagining it made her sigh.

She couldn’t bear to imagine Gyeonwoo, who was finally opening up and becoming more like her peers, becoming withdrawn again.

So she had to stop this before it happened.

“Awakened Han Dayeon? You seem worried that Gyeonwoo isn’t mixing with the other children.”

Thankfully, her voice was so quiet that only someone with Awakened abilities could barely hear it.

The other children and even the teachers didn’t seem to have heard.

    “…Yes. A bit.”

Han Dayeon wiped away the cold sweat trickling down.

Misunderstanding her reaction, the teachers gently pushed her forward as if they understood.

To them, it looked like Gyeonwoo was an outsider, unable to adapt among the children.

“The tour’s almost over, if you’re that worried, would you like to take care of Gyeonwoo? After what she’s been through… she seems to have trouble mixing with the children.”

    Han Dayeon seized the opportunity.

“Yes, I’ll do that. Thank you for understanding.”

She quickly caught Gyeonwoo, who was about to run over and say something to the boy.

    “Eeek!”

Gyeonwoo screamed as cold hands suddenly slipped under her arms, making her shiver.

She kicked her legs in resistance, but was quickly lifted into the air like a doll.

    Touching someone’s body without permission!

What demon would do this, Gyeonwoo growled as she turned her head.

“Gyeonwoo, want to talk with sister?”

    “Huh…?”

She met eyes with a very urgent-looking Han Dayeon.

    Oh, it’s sister?

She’d been worried seeing her in such serious discussion with the teachers – was there some problem?

As soon as she recognized Han Dayeon, the ominous aura boiling up from Gyeonwoo instantly dissipated.

Though awkward, she relaxed her body to make it easier for Han Dayeon to hold her – very different from her initial panic and aversion to physical contact.

Someone who took in useless me without asking anything in return must have a reason!

She knew Han Dayeon wouldn’t do this just to satisfy some desire.

    Gyeonwoo trusted her that much.

But Han Dayeon, who’d lifted Gyeonwoo despite that trust.

Wow. What is this. So soft and squishy.

Was unconsciously busy feeling Gyeonwoo’s warm, soft armpits.

So this is why men like women in sleeveless tops!

How can anything feel like this?

It felt softer and squishier than the slime she’d accidentally touched beyond the Gate.

    Han Dayeon had such thoughts.

    Next time…

I should follow Gyeonwoo into the shower to make sure she doesn’t use laundry soap!

This is all for Gyeonwoo’s sake!

While Han Dayeon indulged her selfish desires.

Ah! I need to clear up the misunderstanding about the Guild Master!

Gyeonwoo, finally coming to her senses, tried to handle the situation before it was too late.

“Wait! I still need to talk to that child!”

Though a child herself, she called the boy who was bigger than her a child.

It was a laughable situation, but Han Dayeon forced down her laughter.

Children this age are emotional and sensitive.

What if laughing hurt their feelings?

“Hm? Unless it’s urgent, want to talk with sister first?”

She tried to persuade her gently without bringing up the Guild Master, but…

She knew when her kind sister was this urgent, it meant there was a problem.

Maybe she’d made some mistake, still unfamiliar with the outside world.

Even if not, it was certainly for her sake.

The Han Dayeon she’d known so far was that kind and cool!

    “It’s urgent!”

But this time even Gyeonwoo couldn’t easily give up her stubbornness.

After all, this was for none other than the Guild Master.

Though she didn’t know what they’d heard, she couldn’t stand by while strangers who’d never met him badmouthed the Guild Master!

Gyeonwoo turned her head to meet Han Dayeon’s eyes.

Her bright yellow eyes showed clear determination.

It was her way of asking Han Dayeon to trust her just this once, to give her a chance.

But to Han Dayeon looking at Gyeonwoo.

    “!”

She just looked like a kitten going limp in its owner’s hands.

Even the resolve in Gyeonwoo’s large eyes seemed like pouting “Hmph, I’ll sulk if you don’t let me go.”

Like Puss in Boots from cartoons turned human.

“Sister? P-please trust me just once! Please…?”

Those eyes looking ready to spill tears at the slightest touch. Plus that shy tugging at her sleeve!

“Okay. Our Gyeonwoo can do whatever she wants! Sister will handle the consequences!”

Finally, Han Dayeon lost her grip on reason.

Our Gyeonwoo wants to do something!

A child who usually freaks out just from holding hands is snuggling up like this!

Though Gyeonwoo had never voluntarily snuggled before, Han Dayeon had already lost it after seeing her shyly closing the distance.

People might badmouth the Guild Master because of this?

Not my problem, right? Who else but the Guild Master could protect Korea anyway?

They’d be lucky if they just get sued and ruined.

And someone dares touch Gyeonwoo, who’s loved by not just the Guild Master but also us sisters?

    Hmph, I’m being reasonable here.

If it was that crazy bitch Han Yuyeon, they’d all be dead already!

Who could withstand two S-class Awakened going all out?

Han Dayeon set Gyeonwoo back down after lifting her without hesitation.

And so Gyeonwoo, finally back on solid ground.

    “I-I’m sorry…”

The boy who’d been trembling with worry just from Gyeonwoo alone.

Now with Chungseong’s famous A-class Awakened Han Dayeon personally stepping forward.

They must have caught us bullying the kids!

That’s it! She must be super close with Chungseong’s Guild Master!

    Aah! We’re all dead now!

    It’s all over!

She faced his despairing expression reminiscent of Munch’s The Scream.

    No, really.

Why are they so scared of our Guild Master?

    He’s such a kind person.

Gyeonwoo held the panicking boy’s hand to calm him and explained.

    “The Guild Master likes tanghulu.”

No, he likes Gyeonwoo who likes tanghulu.

    “…Huh?”

He froze at the random statement.

His expression went blank with confusion.

    But Gyeonwoo didn’t stop there.

“He likes lemonade too, and red ginseng candy. And he bought me this phone, and gave me work.”

These were things parents would naturally do, but precisely because they were such everyday things, the boy’s tension visibly started melting away.

“Mmm, and… he’s handsome, and has big hands, and is strong…”

Though she ran out of things to say since she hadn’t spent long with the Guild Master.

But it made it clear her words were true and sincere.

Finally the boy blurted out stupidly.

“What…? M-my brother said Chungseong’s Guild Master is a crazy bastard who kills people randomly, so run away if you see him…”

The source of the problem was finally revealed.

“Wait. Kids, can you tell sister about this in detail?”

    The situation seemed quite tangled.

Han Dayeon belatedly took Gyeonwoo, Pureumi, and the boy to a corner away from the group.

Even if they were mature for their age, kindergarteners were still kindergarteners.

She should have expected there’d be misunderstandings…

Is that boy’s brother a villain or something?

    No, wait.

We haven’t even announced publicly that Gyeonwoo belongs to the guild yet?

That meant the boy’s brother was someone who knew Chungseong Guild’s internal affairs well.

Excluding villains, there was only one person who’d dare speak that way about the Guild Master…?

And unfortunately, if her guess was right, he was an awkward person for her too.

She needed to prepare in case he showed up for the afternoon field trip.

“Is your brother Guild Master Jang Jin-yu?”

Han Dayeon had meant to stop the children’s fight and prevent misunderstandings.

“What did I do wrong to play with those beggars…”

    Not far away.

Unlike the other children who quickly lost interest and moved on to other topics.

A pretty girl couldn’t hide her irritated expression.

Adults shouldn’t interfere in children’s business.

She couldn’t stand still thinking Han Dayeon was interfering too.
