Chapter 52: Let’s Learn Common Sense
by fnovelpia
The role-play for Gyeonwoo and Pureumi’s safety successfully concluded.
“Let me rest my legs.”
“Stop whining when you were fine after two days straight in a Gate. Though they’re our kids, they really do lack common sense…”
They’d worn themselves out going in and out of the house all day for the acting, but at least the children wouldn’t open the door for just anyone anymore, so it was a success…
This shocking experience made the sisters realize again how much common sense the children lacked.
Girls shouldn’t undress in front of others!
Don’t follow strangers!
Don’t eat food from strangers!
Don’t open the door carelessly!
Most of what the sisters were trying to teach Gyeonwoo was this kind of basic common sense, which led them to a new plan.
If they lack common sense, we just need to fill in what’s missing, right?
Usually, children absorb this kind of common sense from parents and peers.
And so, the next day…
“Mmm…”
Gyeonwoo, just waking up, was rubbing her face against her new soft pillow when she froze.
Oh right.
I have eyes now, and my limbs are fine too?
I don’t need to wipe my face on the pillow anymore!
Still half-asleep, she rose zombie-like and rubbed her eyes like a cat.
Thanks to Mia’s regeneration ability remaining in this body, her eyes were clear without even sleep dust.
At first, she’d felt uncomfortable about forcibly taking Mia’s body, but not anymore.
Since Mia was alive, she decided to fully enjoy these sensations while she could, knowing she might lose them someday.
Chirp chirp-!
A sparrow family chirped excitedly outside, seemingly pleased with their new home.
Yellow morning sunlight filtered through gaps in the thick blackout curtains.
It was such a wonderful morning, she wondered if she deserved to be this happy.
Smiling naturally, Gyeonwoo shook Pureumi awake, who was clinging to her leg.
“Pureumi. Time to wake up.”
“Mama… milk…”
Pureumi opened her eyes, smacking her lips as if dreaming.
“No milk comes out…”
Despite Gyeonwoo’s panicked voice, Pureumi didn’t seem to care, just grinning and rubbing her cheeks.
It was such a heartwarming sight that anyone watching would feel happy, but unfortunately, they couldn’t stay like this.
“Hoho, my babies. Was the pillow comfy?”
“Ah…!”
Han Dayeon called out with an amused voice, watching them act like cats rubbing against their owner’s legs.
“Time for both of you to get up? You haven’t forgotten our promise today?”
With Han Yuyeon having to leave for an urgent mission, they’d hurriedly arranged a kindergarten tour nearby using the Guild Master’s connections.
And to avoid being late for the tour, it was time to get up and prepare.
“Yes…”
Gyeonwoo and Pureumi obediently got up at Han Dayeon’s urging.
Their heads swayed side to side, still drowsy.
Oh my.
How is everything these children do so adorable?
There couldn’t be more harmless creatures in this world.
And these adorable children are mine!
Heart swelling, Han Dayeon explained today’s plans while helping them prepare.
“Today we’re going on a field trip with kindergarten friends.”
Originally, she’d planned a family picnic for Gyeonwoo.
But with the Guild Master busy with the cult cleanup and concerns about drawing the cult’s attention by moving in a large group, this was the compromise.
However.
“What…? Kindergarten…?”
Gyeonwoo tilted her head.
I’ll be an adult in just four years, what could I learn at kindergarten?
No matter how she thought about it, her mental age was too mature to think of such young children as friends.
She’d looked it up on YouTube recently – Roblox or something.
Apparently kids were into this game with characters that looked like folded paper boxes.
What could be fun about that?
Wouldn’t it be more fun to beat up demons and make demon-possessed humans repent?
So this field trip must be for Pureumi, not me!
Mmm. Just like the Guild Master played with me, now it’s Pureumi’s turn…
Though something ached in her chest, Gyeonwoo didn’t show it.
“I’ll get ready quickly too, so don’t play around, okay?”
After Han Dayeon left with that playful warning.
Despite the mansion having several bathrooms, Gyeonwoo and Pureumi deliberately stayed together in one room.
“Mama!”
Pureumi was so young she might cause trouble if left alone.
Moreover, since Pureumi was today’s star… they needed to make her look pretty.
Though Pureumi had gained a physical body through their contract, she was still a spirit.
Gyeonwoo wondered if spirits even needed to brush teeth and wash, but still.
She quickly brushed her teeth and washed her hair.
Like her training days in the cult, she finished showering in three minutes and immediately started helping Pureumi get ready.
“I’ll help our Pureumi look pretty and make friends!”
Though I only have Mia as a friend…
I know well that friends are as precious as family.
I could endure everything in the cult because of Mia.
I’m even alive now thanks to Mia!
I need to help Pureumi make good friends like that too.
Then even if she leaves after realizing I’m not her real Mama…
There will be many people to love Pureumi in my place.
“Mama…?”
Pureumi tilted her head, watching Gyeonwoo grow mysteriously quiet.
Being with Mama had been so happy just this morning.
But now it felt like when her mother left before she became a spirit.
Just like then, when she’d smiled saying “Don’t die” and “Don’t give up,” Mama’s energy felt gloomy.
As Pureumi tried to turn her head, sensing something ominous.
“No. You need to stay still while I wash your hair. Do you know how much it hurts if soap gets in your eyes?”
Gyeonwoo quickly grabbed Pureumi’s blue head and held it straight, worried she might try something.
She squeezed out shampoo and worked it into the long, fine hair until it bubbled.
“Heehee…! It tickles!”
Pureumi giggled and squirmed at the ticklish feeling on her scalp.
“Heeheehing! Achoo!”
She sneezed at water droplets tickling her nose, then sniffled.
Han Dayeon, secretly hiding in the downstairs bathroom, smiled warmly at the scene.
She’d worried they might hurt themselves with hot water.
Or that they might not wash properly in the unfamiliar environment, but thankfully that wasn’t the case.
How sweet, look at her taking care of her little sister.
To her adult eyes, they were both just tiny kids.
“See? The soap stings because you keep moving.”
“Uu… it’s hot, but okay cause it’s Mama! Can handle it!”
Watching Gyeonwoo diligently washing Pureumi’s hair.
Brushing her teeth, and even helping her wash her face, it was truly admirable.
Ha.
If only those other stuck-up Awakened brats were half as good as her, the world would be a better place.
Let’s watch a bit longer and help if needed.
So Han Dayeon hid behind the bathroom door, peeking out to watch the two children.
Between their silly grins and being in just underwear.
It could look suspicious to others, but the children had no way of knowing that.
“Okay, all done, just need to wash your body and get out. Can you do that?”
“Mama won’t wash my body?”
After finishing rinsing her hair and mouth full of bubbles.
When it came time for the final body wash, Gyeonwoo suddenly jumped up and ran away.
“U-um. Others shouldn’t touch your body carelessly.”
Why would she suddenly act like this when she’d been so naturally good at taking care of others despite her age?
She hasn’t used up all her energy before we go out, has she…?
Unable to contain her curiosity, Han Dayeon quietly.
Creek-
Opened the bathroom door and peeked at Gyeonwoo, who had fled to a corner.
Head bowed low, staring at the wall where moisture dripped down.
And she could see her face was bright red as if with heatstroke.
No way…!
So Gyeonwoo could get embarrassed too!
She’d thought it was fine since they were children, but apparently seeing naked bodies was still embarrassing.
“Hoho, time for me to step in.”
It was actually good that she still had shame.
It meant she’d be less likely to be fooled by bad adults, so Han Dayeon planned to help Gyeonwoo this time.
But not everyone felt the same way.
“Mmm… not stranger! Okay cause it’s Mama!”
Unhappy about being abandoned mid-care, Pureumi puffed up her cheeks and chased after Gyeonwoo.
“Oh no!”
Running in the bathroom is dangerous!
Gyeonwoo turned around in surprise.
Han Dayeon rushed in to catch Pureumi before she fell, but.
Splash splash splash splash splash-!
Pureumi ran well.
Despite the soapy floor, she ran at incredible speed without slipping once, as if showing off her spirit nature, and threw herself into Gyeonwoo’s arms.
They were connected by contract, so it hurt too much to be pushed away over something so small!
“Hiiing, not stranger…”
Pureumi buried her face against Gyeonwoo, sobbing loudly.
“Uh, uh, uh…”
Washing hair was fine, but washing bodies was just…
Even if she had a woman’s body now, wasn’t that too lewd!
So while one child cried, the other stood frozen with hands raised high, staring blankly at the ceiling as if being punished, leaving Han Dayeon awkwardly scratching her head.
What exactly is the problem here…?
