Chapter 46: S#8. Cloverfield (3)

    Ellen Strode vs. Nancy Strode.

A nerve-wracking tension erupted between the mother and daughter.

Neither was willing to yield participation in the competition to the other.

Was the $300 prize money really that enticing?

I had no choice but to make Solomon’s decision[1].

-[Aaahh~~! This contestant says one is not enough and decides to carry two! What incredible boldness!!]

    The surprised host shouted.

Yes, my choice was left Ellen/right Nancy. Truly, flowers in both hands.

Ten teams participated in the competition, all combinations of slender women and muscular men.

Of course, we were the only team with three people.

With the sound of the host’s whistle, the ‘Bride Carry Contest’ contest began.

I quickly lifted the Strode mother and daughter.

Mother on my left arm. Daughter on my right arm.

They were in swimsuits, so our skins were touching.

I had hugged them before, but it was the first time our bare skins overlapped like this.

Why are female bodies so flexible and soft?

Their scent was intoxicatingly sweet too.

However, there was an unexpected complication.

The oil I had applied through my hands for Ellen’s suntan. The viscosity was still there.

    My hands kept slipping.

Inadvertently, I ended up tightly grabbing Ellen’s thigh. Squishy.

“Summer, where are you touching right now?”

    “Sorry, Ellen. It’s the oil…”

    I felt embarrassed and apologetic.

Luckily, Ellen didn’t seem to dislike it.

Instead, she clung closer to me.

She wrapped her arms around my head and hugged me.

    Her chest covered my face.

    “Ellen… it’s hard to breathe.”

“But Summer, your hands are slippery. We need to stay as close as possible so you don’t drop me.”

Ellen’s chest pressing on my face was overwhelming.

Soft and bouncy to the touch.

As I struggled to lift the lower body with my slippery hands, I ended up grabbing the plump buttocks.

The flesh snugly wrapped around my palm. Ellen let out a small cry.

Moisture touched the tips of my fingers.

What is this? It seems like a fluid other than oil…

Anyway, there was no time to worry about that.

As if one problem wasn’t enough, another anomaly occurred.

    “Haah, haah…”

Nancy on my right side was breathing hotly.

A bit angry yet dazed expression. Her body felt feverishly hot.

Why is this happening all of a sudden?

Nancy’s sultry breathing and strange warmth hit my ears directly.

On the other side, Ellen was assaulting me with her chest.

Being a man, a natural physiological reaction occurred.

    It kept trying to stretch.

The lion drawn on my swimsuit became increasingly three-dimensional.

    It was a triple challenge.

Slippery hands × breathlessness caused by Ellen’s soft chest × stimulation from Nancy’s hot breath.

It was incredibly difficult to endure. I had already reached my limit in suppressing physiological responses.

    I gritted my teeth.

I exerted superhuman patience. I had to endure with sheer determination.

After 5 minutes from the start of the competition, only 3 of the 10 teams remained.

The remaining teams were us, a golden sun man + golden sun woman combination, and another couple.

    I hadn’t seen the other couple’s faces.

Who could they be? Ellen’s large chest obscured my view.

With no choice, I slightly turned my body and glanced sideways.

    “……Huh.”

    The other couple was…

    Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

The mad scientist who struggled to resurrect their dead daughter.

But the Smiths were supposed to have died long ago.

Eaten alive by their resurrected daughter, they burned down with their house and turned to ash.

    How could they be here?

I realized belatedly how absurd what I was seeing was.

    The couple were rotting corpses.

Their bodies were crushed and burned.

Intestines dripped from Mr. Smith’s torn abdomen.

Mrs. Smith spewed pink brain matter from where her nose once was.

    I barely managed to speak.

    “…Mr. Smith…?”

The host’s voice and the crowd’s cheers receded into the distance.

The sensation of holding Nancy and Ellen also diminished.

Soon, the sound of the wind and waves faded away.

All movement froze. It was an eerie silence.

    “Summer.”

Mr. and Mrs. Smith’s voices sounded as if they were speaking underwater.

Their grotesque, skinless bodies faced me. They stared at me through hollow eye sockets.

    “You made us like this……”

    …Summer, Summer!”

Nancy’s shout snapped me back to reality.

I was standing, holding Ellen and Nancy.

We were the only ones left on the stage.

The golden sun team had been eliminated.

There never had been a Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

As the crowd cheered, I was engulfed in confusion.

Why had I hallucinated the Smiths? Was I going mad?

It couldn’t be a mental illness.

I had never felt any psychological shock or guilt from my actions in vanquishing evil.

    But why then…

“Summer, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” Ellen asked cautiously.

I was at a loss for words.

The host approached us with $300 in hand.

“That was a truly impressive match! It must have been twice as difficult for you, yet you lasted twice as long. Was it because the beauties you held made it possible?”

Just then, a piercing scream sounded from the beach.

Someone was floundering in the water.

The sound of splashing triggered the <Jaws> OST to autoplay in my head.

A lifeguard dove into the sea to rescue the person.

The crowd at the beach, forgetting the competition, watched the unfolding scene with bated breath.

Red bubbles frothed where the lifeguard had dived.

    Swoosh—

Suddenly, something burst from the water.

It wasn’t the lifeguard but a long, thick leg—an insect’s leg, thick as a pillar, about 3 meters long.

The creature leapt out of the water, revealing itself—a giant monster that resembled a hybrid of a butterfly and a fish.

As it tilted its massive wings, seawater cascaded down.

    “What the…?”

    Its appearance was unexpected.

I was tired of giant bugs.

‘Tromaville Butchery’ was emblazoned on the creature’s body.

    “It’s the police! Freeze!”

    Officer Bob Bojangles stepped forward.

The butterfly monster swung its leg in a sharp strike.

Bob was bisected by the blow.

His left and right brains, the size of kidney beans, separated, and his lungs, filled with doughnut powder, were also split in two.

    People screamed.

The butterfly monster charged towards the beach.

It collided with the golden sun ladies, shredding them like raw meat in a grinder.

As it swooped low over the beach, it stirred the air, and parasols were blown away by the rushing wind.

Unfortunately, the tips of the parasols impaled the golden sun men.

    Pfssh, Pfssh.

Several human skewers were created on the beach.

The flapping of its wings also caused the stage to collapse.

The host was crushed. $300 flew around like bomb shrapnel.

The beautiful beach had turned into a rampaging slaughterhouse, instantly causing numerous casualties.

I quickly lifted Nancy and Ellen again and ran blindly beyond the beach.

I reached a point where neither the roar of the butterfly monster nor the screams of the people could be heard.

    I set them down.

    “Nancy, Ellen! Are you okay……”

    I couldn’t finish my sentence.

What I had carried and run with were not Nancy and Ellen.

It was Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

    But they were both dead.

    They were both my hallucinations.

    Mockingly, the corpses dripped maggots.

From the distant beach, there was the sound of splashing.

Someone was still struggling in the water.

Suddenly, the butterfly monster swooped down and landed right in front of me.

    Thump—the earth shook.

The monster opened its massive jaws.

    “Summer…

    Raei  Translations

    …Summer, Summer!”

I was jolted awake by my shoulders being shaken.

    Startled, I sat up abruptly.

    “Ah!”

    I screamed involuntarily.

My heart raced, and my body was drenched in cold sweat.

However, the butterfly monster was nowhere to be seen.

Next to me was Nancy, who had woken me up.

    We were inside a car.

Through the window, I saw a ‘Tromaville Butchery’ truck.

On its cargo, a tiny butterfly the size of a thumbnail perched.

A narration echoed in my head.

    -Summer had a dream.

It wasn’t the recurring dream that had been troubling him these past few days.

However, it was a terrible nightmare.

“Did you have a nightmare?” Nancy asked worriedly. I nodded.

I took a deep breath to steady myself and spoke to Ellen, who was holding the steering wheel.

“Ellen… we need to turn back now.”

“What? Turn back now?” Ellen looked puzzled.

“Something bad is going to happen.”

“It’s a bit abrupt to just turn back, Summer. Nancy’s friend came all this way too!” Ellen remarked.

A woman, appearing to be Nancy’s age, was sitting in the passenger seat.

Uh… Did she come with us?

It seemed like someone had joined us when we left the house. My memory was fuzzy.

The woman in the passenger seat spoke to Nancy. “Nancy, it’s been so long since we’ve been to the beach, right?”

“Yes. It brings back memories,” Nancy responded with a bright smile.

I pulled out the axe I had tucked away behind me.

“Hey, Summer? Why are you taking out the axe?” Nancy asked, puzzled.

I wedged the axe blade between the headrest and the back of the passenger seat.

Then I pushed the axe hard with my foot.

    Pfssh.

The axe blade sliced through the seat and decapitated the woman sitting there, severing her head from the back of her neck.

    Blood gushed like a fountain.

The car was soaked in red, and Ellen and Nancy screamed.

“You shouldn’t be here. You hate moving around, and besides, you’re already dead,” I said, addressing the severed neck.

    It was Olivia.

“That’s right,” Olivia’s severed head cunningly smiled.

Nancy and Ellen’s screams turned into laughter.

The interior of the car melted away like wax.

    Finally, the truth was revealed.
