“Senior, about that broadcast we sent out last time about the experiment victims…”
“Hey, is this really the time to worry about that? Don’t you see we have more urgent matters piling up?”
Two men crossing the broadcasting station corridor with somewhat hurried steps. One of them, who seemed to be the senior, scolded the younger man who appeared to be his junior.
“B-but the victims’ families are protesting fiercely right now. It’s a big deal to broadcast like that when nothing has been clearly confirmed.”
“Ui-sung. Aren’t you 13 years into this job? Why are you so nervous? I’ve checked everything.”
“You checked? So is it true that they really used a virus for the experiment, and there are side effects or possibilities of infection?”
“Ah, this kid…”
He fiddled with his neatly trimmed beard and stopped in his tracks, snorting derisively at his junior’s seemingly surprised reaction.
Knowing his personality well, the junior called Uiseong flinched for a moment.
“It’s an underground organization deeply connected to international mafias. What can you find out about the crazy experiments those bastards conducted?”
“But you just confirmed…”
“I did confirm. All the victims’ personal information and backgrounds. We’re lucky. The most influential one was just the daughter of some local prosecutor.”
He spoke with a smirk, as if lecturing. His junior, who understood the implications, widened his eyes and began to tremble.
“Even if those powerless nobodies gather and cry about injustice, nobody cares in these times. People are only focused on where the next monster mammoth might appear, or whether the terrible criminal organization has finally left Korea or not. It was all buried before anyway, so what can we do? The public’s goldfish memory isn’t new, is it?”
He quietly said as he patted his junior’s shoulder.
“Just ignore whatever they say. It’ll be buried anyway. Instead, think about how to cozy up to Assemblyman Park we’re meeting now.”
“Ah, I understand.”
“Let’s do well. As you know, Assemblyman Park was recently chosen by China, so he’ll be doing well domestically from now on. We’re just following company policy by sticking close to him.”
As he whispered in his ear, the junior, getting goosebumps, hurriedly nodded. A shred of conscience? That had been buried long ago.
‘…I have to earn. Money, I have to earn money. That’s all that matters in this world.’
Junior Jeon Uiseong followed behind him again, glancing at the background of his phone he had just taken out.
The background was a photo of his daughter who had just entered middle school and his son who had entered elementary school. He felt guilty about the victims of the biological experiments because of his own children.
But ironically, Jeon Uiseong had to bury this case for the sake of his children.
“What’s this? Did something happen? What’s all this fuss about?”
However, just as they arrived at the lobby of the broadcasting station, they could see a crowd of people gathered in the first-floor lobby amidst murmuring noises.
From behind him cursing, Jeon Uiseong could glimpse down at the first floor to see what had happened.
“This… can’t be.”
“N-No way!”
And the two could only be equally shocked.
“S-Step back! This area is for authorized personnel only…”
“Is that the best excuse you can come up with?”
The black-haired, red-eyed girl, Takilas, snorted. Security guards blocked her as she boldly entered the main entrance of the broadcasting station. However, she didn’t even blink at the taser guns pointed at her.
“My demands remain the same.”
As if she enjoyed the numerous gazes focused on her, she confidently demanded something from the gathered crowd as if it were only natural.
“Bring all the people who make and edit the news here… Especially those who reported on the recent illegal biological experiments, from the staff to those in charge, all of them.”
“What nonsense are you…”
“It’s too troublesome to move directly. I won’t wait for long, you know?”
People were naturally shocked by her demands and looked around nervously, but Takilas remained firm. The notorious reputation she had built up was already too high. The terrible nightmare that corpses always piled up wherever she appeared.
“Why those people! No, what are you planning to do?”
In a situation where no one dared to step forward, it was the young security guard at the front blocking her who finally managed to speak.
“Where are the CEO… I mean, the directors? They were here just a moment ago!”
“I-I don’t know. They’re not answering their phones either…”
“Damn it. Those old pig bastards ran away…”
The clueless people who had gathered stood frozen, desperately looking around and reading the situation. As if it had been planned, none of those in positions of responsibility appeared.
“It’s fine if you run away. You might survive for now. But if that happens, I’ll have no choice but to do my job. The job of a Magical Girl.”
Takilas enjoyed watching their confusion. As she spoke with a smirk, the murmuring of the people grew louder.
“The job of a Magical Girl?”
“Of course, I’m dealing with villains. What is there to be afraid of? If you’re truly innocent, there’s nothing to fear. I’m a Magical Girl, and I can’t touch those who are pure and innocent. But well… as I’ve been looking around.”
She slowly muttered, pointing at the young security guard who had blocked her way.
“Except for you, fortunately, everyone else is above the threshold. Should I just snap all their necks? You filthy villains.”
“Qu-quickly, contact the news department!”
“Haven’t these bastards already run away?!”
Her shadow suddenly flickered, rippling across the entire first-floor lobby. People, panicked by the intense killing intent, frantically looked around in all directions.
“There! Over there! Director Park Ah-jun from the news department and PD Jeon Ui-seong! Those two are responsible for this incident!”
At that moment, someone on the second floor shouted, pointing at two people who had been watching from above. Naturally, as soon as all eyes turned to them, the two immediately turned and started to run.
“Oh shit! Run!”
When the terrified and panicked people’s gazes, affected by Taquilath’s killing intent, turned towards them without hesitation and betrayed them, Park Ah-jun immediately turned and fled.
His junior colleague Jeon Ui-seong, pale-faced, did the same.
“Seems like they have something to feel guilty about, running away so desperately.”
“Aaaaargh!”
Taquilath leaped through the air, landing on the railing in one bound and strode after them. Just as she had only threatened the people, and now enjoying this chase, she actually didn’t intend to kill that many people.
She was just planning to behead a few of those responsible as an example. After all, they were the ones who dared to harm her.
“Wh-where are we going?!”
“How the fuck should I know!”
Of course, unaware of her intentions, Park Ah-jun ran like mad, clutching his pounding heart.
His mind was racing faster than it ever had in his life. Where should he run now that might give him the best chance of survival?
Escaping through the back door into the city, or going to the parking lot to get in a car. But no matter how he thought about it, none of these seemed like the right answer.
“This way!”
He ran towards a place that wasn’t the escape route. He was a person who had engraved the law of survival of the fittest throughout his life and considered it the truth. That it’s natural for the weak to be taken advantage of, so clinging to the strong is the only answer.
“What, what’s going on… Hey!”
“Di-Director Park?!”
The place he barged into was the waiting room where Congressman Park Sang-myeon, whom he had an appointment with, was waiting. The aides couldn’t even stop him.
Unaware of the commotion outside, Congressman Park, who was leisurely drinking coffee with his legs up on the table inside, spat out the coffee he was drinking at his sudden intrusion.
“Are you crazy? More importantly, why is it so noisy outside?”
“P-Please save me, Congressman.”
Park A-jun knelt in front of the bewildered Congressman Park, trembling and looking back. And Congressman Park couldn’t even stop him in time.
“This is ridiculous. Are you insane?”
Right after that, Tequilas appeared at the door of the waiting room. She glanced around inside and sighed as if it was absurd.
“Uh… uh… that… magic…”
“Yes. You parasite-like pseudo-parasite acting like a leech till the end. Is this bald-headed fool who looks stupid your last host?”
She shook her head looking at Congressman Park, who was surprised and stammering. Park A-jun, who had actually rushed in here, was still not in his right mind.
He believed until the end that his choice was right. That Congressman Park would be able to protect him.
“D-Don’t move!”
And as if his prediction was correct, Congressman Park shouted, stopping her feet as she was about to step into the room.
“Why should I? Why should I listen to the likes of you? You’re just a biological old has-been past your twilight years who can’t even function properly anymore, upper or lower body.”
“I-I’m a congressman of this country. Laying hands on me is like declaring war on this country!”
Congressman Park shouted whatever came to mind. The murderous intent flowing from her eyes, which had lost all trace of amusement, was driving him crazy.
“And, and, if you touch me, the Chinese intelligence agency won’t sit idly by either.”
“Co-Congressman?”
Overcome with fear and panic, he started blabbering incoherently, even revealing top-secret information that should have been hidden from his own political party. Of course, it had no effect.
“How dare you, to one chosen by a great nation…”
In the end, Congressman Park couldn’t finish his sentence.
Park Ajun came to his senses only when blood spurting from the congressman’s neck, now flying through the air, splattered on his face.
