    Large-scale Human Experiments

“Remember this. If you inflict excessive pain from the start, the total amount of pain you can obtain decreases. So rather than giving strong pain from the beginning, the key is to slowly provide pain that’s difficult to endure.

A place covered in dark red, where human blood has coagulated.

There, a man wearing a pristinely white high priest’s robe, completely out of place, was supervising with a broad smile.

As if the screams coming from nearby were a concert performed just for him, he calmly appreciated them.

Then he slowly approached an old man writhing under torture nearby and spoke.

“There’s one thing I’m curious about. I understand that you feel pain for survival. Why do you try to give up your life because of that pain?”

    “Kill… Kill me.”

“Survival is the fundamental aspect of all living beings. I can’t understand why you’re trying to give up your life so quickly just because you feel pain.”

    “… Keuak… Kuk.”

He looked at the old man as if he really didn’t understand, but then, as if he had lost interest, he shook it off and said.

“Well, I suppose this isn’t important. Believers, I know it’s difficult, but please try a little harder. The more we strive, the closer we’ll get to the descent of the Heaven God.”

He smiled brightly as if he was looking forward to the day the Heaven God would descend.

Then, pulling out a snake-shaped dagger from his bosom, he said.

“All of this is for the Heaven God.”

Just as he finished speaking and was about to stab the old man.

A man, his body so damaged that his form was barely recognizable, steps in front to block him.

Somewhat amused by this interesting sight, he smiles as he watches.

The man who protected the old man’s body speaks urgently with a trembling face.

“Pl-please. Just spare my grandfather. I-I’ll take the torture and… and die… in his place. Please, just my grandfather…”

Pleased by these words, he responds.

“Is that so? Then let me make a counter-proposal. If you kill your grandfather with this dagger, I’ll let you live.”

    “… What?”

“Was that too difficult to understand? I’m saying if you kill your grandfather with this dagger, I’ll spare your life.”

At these words, the man stares at the priest with trembling pupils.

The priest gazed steadily into the man’s eyes and smiled slightly.

“You’re both going to die anyway. Wouldn’t it be better if at least you lived? Your grandfather would want that too.”

Rationally thinking, it would be better if at least one person survived, so it might be better to kill.

Because of this, the man couldn’t answer and just stared blankly at the dagger.

The priest looked at the man and soon made a cold expression and said.

    “I’m tired of this now.”

Then he waved his hand, signaling to deal with these two, and walked forward.

    * * * * *

I brought one of the guard knights residing in the family, just in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

To be honest, I wanted to come alone, regardless of the guard.

    ‘In case something goes wrong.’

Thinking it would be better to have minimal insurance, I placed him beside me like a folding screen.

The guard knight who came with me, standing beside me like that, speaks to me somewhat anxiously.

“Young master, it’s dangerous to wander around at such a late hour.”

    “It’s fine.”

“Of course… there wouldn’t be any lunatic who would dare to mess with the Lercier Family. But occasionally, there are truly insane individuals… so it would be better to stay safe if possible.”

I’m not sure if it’s because he might have to take responsibility if something goes wrong.

Or if it’s because the Lercier Family has so many enemies that he’s worried about me.

‘Whatever the case, I can’t stop now.’

Deciding to ignore it and proceed with the task, I slowly climbed onto the roof.

    ‘Is that it?’

The inn Espin mentioned and the underground sewer extending below it.

After confirming this, I pondered for a moment and looked around.

    ‘It’s eerily quiet.’

Even if it’s late in the evening, there should be a guard or a couple of drunk people… or at least some vagrants.

I couldn’t hide my puzzlement as I looked at the streets where not even an ant could be seen.

No matter how I thought about it, something seemed strange.

As I came to this conclusion, I quickly scanned the surroundings, but.

Perhaps due to the faint fog filling the streets, I couldn’t find any other important clues.

As I clicked my tongue at this, the guard I brought along coughed and spoke to me.

“Wait a moment… young master. It seems someone has released sleep fog here.”

    “Sleep fog?”

“Yes. It’s a sleeping potion that looks like fog… It’s a magical drug used to put large groups of ordinary people with no magic resistance to sleep like this.”

At those words, I smiled slightly and said.

    “I see.”

I laughed briefly at the clearer conclusion and took a position on the rooftop.

‘There was such a description in the original novel.’

[As the hazy smoke filled the streets, members of the Heaven God Cult dragged all the people away, moving them deep underground.]

‘In other words, from the moment that fog was created, ordinary people were already moved deep underground…’

It meant that there were no ordinary people in that inn, only members of the Heaven God Cult remained.

Having reached this conclusion, I took a light deep breath and decided to do ‘what needed to be done.’

‘I didn’t expect to use a large-scale area attack magic for the first time like this.’

I raised my mana, thinking this was quite a fitting test site.

The first magic I created by combining all the research results I had accumulated at an abnormal speed and my unrealistic talent.

The most important consideration when creating this magic was ‘power’.

I packed it with all kinds of power modifiers so that even a single spell could change the situation.

‘As a result, the amount of mana required is excessive.’

Thinking that this could be managed with the mana I had accumulated so far,

I began to compress the sharp and high-purity mana unique to the Lercier Family into one place.

    “… Young Master?”

The guard knight who was watching this seemed to realize that the magic I was about to use was not ordinary, and looked at me with a bewildered expression.

Then, with a terrified expression, he urgently spoke to me.

    “Young Master!”

I suppose he’s telling me not to use it.

Ignoring his words, I shouted briefly.

    “Point Explosion.”

An attack magic created by using the first part of ancient magic, spatial compression, to the extreme.

It was a magic that shot intense lightning-attribute magic into one place, bursting everything around it.

I shot this at the center of the inn where the Heaven God Cult people were gathered, and chanted additional magic.

    ‘Spatial Compression.’

By artificially compressing the spreading range, it makes it explode in a smaller area than it should originally spread.

I smiled with some satisfaction as I watched the explosion that should have spread out being compressed in one place and rushing back to the center again.

    – Kwaaaaang!

    A violent explosion sound erupted.

Perhaps due to the intense magic concentrated and bursting in one place.

A light so bright it could blind one’s eyes enveloped everything around.

The inn, wrapped in such light, exploded miserably in an instant, its form no longer visible.

Wooden pieces flew everywhere, starting to burn.

I deflected the wooden pieces quickly flying up around me with a barrier, and briefly said to the guard knight beside me.

    “Then let’s enter.”

    “… Pardon? Enter, you say?”

Thinking it would take too long to explain, I just nodded and descended towards the inn that was now nothing but ashes.

Wooden pieces crumbling into ash as soon as I stepped on them.

As I was looking around with satisfaction, realizing the power was stronger than I thought,

I could spot a rather large hole leading downwards in one corner.

    ‘That must be it.’

Upon discovering this, I massaged my somewhat stiff shoulders.

Then, drawing the mace hanging at my waist, I said to the guard knight.

    “Follow me closely.”

    “… Yes.”

It seems he had decided to just give up and follow along since things had already happened.

I chuckled at the guard knight’s reaction and went down.

    * * * *

Even though it was powerful, it seems it couldn’t penetrate all the way to the underground sewer.

As I look at the relatively intact sewer, I feel the need to increase the penetration power next time.

From far away, I could smell an overwhelmingly disgusting scent of blood.

‘It seems I’ve come to the right place.’

Recalling that this was supposed to be a site for large-scale human experiments, I slowly walk forward.

    “Grrrr.”

Suddenly, dozens of zombies block my path and start sealing off the entrance.

    ‘Interesting.’

As I was about to use magic to deal with all these zombies.

A fun idea suddenly came to mind, and I used ‘Magic Mastery’ instead of an attack spell.

‘Surely, chimeras or zombies created through human experiments are controlled by their own unique mana.’

Thinking that if I could find and steal that unique mana, I might be able to control them instead, I tried Magic Mastery.

    “Grrrr?”

It was easier than expected to take ownership of the zombies.

Inwardly smiling at this conclusion, I ordered the zombies to charge into enemy territory.
