Chapter 28: Interlude
by AfuhfuihgsThe scarlet sky, dimming into twilight, was a daily occurrence, yet it always evoked a new sentiment each time she saw it.
It was like watching annihilation itself, the sight of everything fading away, enveloped in its warm light.
Even the brilliance that once seemed inextinguishable would eventually wane, and darkness would consume it.
Only after being fully consumed would it be newly conceived, giving birth to another beginning.
She withdrew her gaze from the window and placed the wine glass in her hand on the table.
Was it because of the alcohol? A melancholic feeling began to settle in. It felt as if something else was controlling her, and while she found the sensation quite unpleasant, she also enjoyed it.
Humans, after all, struggled enough just to control their own bodies.
“My lady, are you truly planning to go to Korea alone?”
The man prostrating himself beside her, who was seated in a magnificent chair, suddenly spoke.
His heavy, low voice rumbled in the lavishly decorated room.
His angular features and towering height, easily over two meters, couldn’t erase his overwhelming presence, despite the neatly worn suit.
“Yes, I’ll be fine without him. I can’t just drag someone injured in an accident, and besides, your security team will be following me, so I won’t really be alone, will I?”
“But…”
“Enough about that. I told you before, didn’t I? I don’t have such special feelings for that man.”
As she spoke of the man, she pictured his face.
Honey-blond hair, jade-green eyes, and sharply sculpted features. He looked like a typical prince from a fairy tale.
If it weren’t for his rotten personality, he really would have deserved to be called a prince.
Her fiancé, whose long-term stay in a foreign country had been canceled due to a sudden traffic accident.
Just because he was a fiancé chosen by her family didn’t mean she detested him, but she didn’t have feelings beyond simple fondness either.
At best, it was like a young girl’s admiration for a doll in a display case.
The man’s appearance perfectly matched the fairy-tale prince she dreamed of, but his frivolous nature and philandering ways were things she could never bring herself to like.
“Why are you going to such a place?”
“Because it’s dreadfully boring here.”
She was tired of lazing around in a grand mansion all the time.
Life here was glamorous enough for anyone to envy, but in other words, that was all there was to it.
She spoke as if it were trivial. A sense of boredom was palpable in her blunt tone.
“…If that is truly your wish, then I shall say no more. Please forgive my rudeness from a moment ago.”
“It’s fine.”
Letting the words of her personal bodyguard flow in one ear and out the other, she tilted her head.
Outside the window, the sky was still dimming into an orange hue.
Would the sky she saw there be the same as this?
Well, people live the same way everywhere.
Though she had barely managed to get permission to leave, she didn’t have high expectations.
Wherever she went, whatever she experienced, this monotony would likely never disappear.
She simply thought it would be enough if there were at least some new amusements.
With a small measure of anticipation, she let another identical day pass by, just like that.
