Chapter 25: Doki Doki literary club
by Afuhfuihgs“Who are you to kill anyone as you please? You disgusting trash.”
A youthful voice, out of place in this scene, spoke.
At the same time as the familiar voice was heard, her body, which had been aiming for me, flew like a golf ball and slammed into the wall.
A loud crash assaulted my eardrums, followed by a pathetic groan.
I carefully opened my closed eyes. Sometime during all this, a small back was standing protectively in front of me.
“You don’t look okay. Let’s treat your wounds when we get home. For now, at least stop the bleeding.”
Rustle.
Hair like black silk spun around, revealing the lovely face buried within.
No matter how disoriented I was, there was no way I wouldn’t recognize her, the most precious person in this world. My one and only older sister.
It must have been to reassure me, who was staring blankly.
My sister, with her usual faint smile, kept her gaze fixed ahead and tossed a handkerchief towards me.
Simultaneously, the silver aluminum bat in her left hand twirled.
She must have hit Seon-a, Kang Seon-a, with that bat.
She had hit her with such force that the originally convex part was miserably dented.
More importantly, why was my sister here? In a normal situation, I would have felt immediate gratitude, but perhaps because my head hadn’t cleared yet, I just felt bewildered. Even my sister felt somewhat unfamiliar.
A familiar appearance, yet at the same time, unfamiliar.
As if I had stepped into a novel, every element felt extremely alien.
Seon-a, covered in blood, and my sister, appearing at just the right moment.
The situation I was in felt less like reality and more like a poorly constructed play.
…Was it due to anemia, or the insane situation? My head had been spinning for a while now.
For now, it would be better to stop the bleeding, as my sister said.
I squeezed my eyes shut and, with trembling hands, pulled out the knife embedded in my forearm.
For a moment, my vision went black, as if a large hammer had hit the back of my head, but I clenched my teeth and wrapped the handkerchief my sister had given me around the bleeding wound.
As the torn area tightened, a short scream escaped me unintentionally.
“You, you!!”
At that moment, a scream filled with malice brutally tore through the night’s silence.
Coughing up a mouthful of blood, the disheveled her rose to her feet, and fragments of the broken stone wall rained down.
From between the strands of her disheveled reddish-brown hair, crimson eyes glowed with an eerie light.
“It hurts!!! I’ll kill you!!”
“If you can, then try.”
Despite being hit squarely with a baseball bat, Kang Seon-a charged swiftly, as if the blow meant nothing.
Although it was a straightforward charge without even a proper preparatory stance, its speed and momentum were still overwhelmingly intimidating.
And at the end of that killing intent was my sister.
I had to stop her, but my trembling hands couldn’t even form fists.
My legs shook precariously, and my heart, pounding relentlessly, seemed to have forgotten its original rhythm.
I forcibly suppressed the growing fear and stared straight ahead.
This was not the time to be trembling in fear.
If I were alone, it would be different, but now my sister was right in front of me. It wouldn’t be a problem if I got a little hurt, but not my sister.
Not my sister.
Of course, my sister was far superior to someone like me.
But in dealing with that crazy woman, would that alone be enough? Even as I trusted my sister, anxiety reared its head.
So if I stepped in, I could at least be a meat shield. I firmly gripped the dagger that had fallen to the ground.
But my sister was already moving before I could.
“!”
“Foolish.”
Rustle.
The hem of my sister’s uniform blazer spread out in front of her.
Kang Seon-a, charging recklessly at my sister, had no way of avoiding it, and soon, with her upper body trapped in the thick fabric, the bat came crashing down on her.
One hit, two hits, three hits—a relentless barrage of blows, without holding back, rained down on Kang Seon-a’s blinded body. Each strike carried the force to at least break bones.
Kang Seon-a screamed like a wounded beast.
The screams, which couldn’t even be transcribed, were utterly desperate.
The body of the girl covered in the blazer thrashed about wildly.
But that movement was short-lived, ceasing under the relentless, continuous bludgeoning.
Soon, Kang Seon-a collapsed to the ground like a crumpled paper crane.
Blood flowed profusely from the gaps in the blazer covering her body.
“Phew, it’s finally over. I’m glad it ended without any serious injuries. Right?”
“S-Sister…?”
She dusted off her hands and, with a light step, turned around, her usual warm smile now looking inexplicably eerie.
Just as I was about to say something to her, it moved again.
“Sister, behind you!”
“Huh?”
“You’re the foolish one, you goddamn b*tch.”
As soon as my sister turned her back, Kang Seon-a threw off the blazer covering her and charged.
My sister turned around belatedly at my shout, and by then, it was too late.
My arm stretched out futilely towards the empty air; a sharp silver trajectory tore through the darkness and silence of the night at once.
“Are you… really human?”
An exclamation of disbelief.
A thin trickle of blood ran down my sister’s smooth cheek.
My sister immediately counterattacked, swinging the bat horizontally. Kang Seon-a dodged it with cat-like agility.
I stared blankly at the two of them, now facing each other again at a distance.
A moment when my heart almost dropped.
Thankfully, my sister had tilted her head just before the blade reached her face, so the blade only grazed her porcelain cheek.
“How can you stand there perfectly fine after being hit like that? A monster?”
“Perfectly fine?… Sh*t, do I look perfectly fine to you now?”
Kang Seon-a waved one arm as if to show me.
It was covered in blood as before, but new black spots beneath it caught my eye.
A severe wound, enough to make me instinctively turn my head away.
A normal person would scream shrilly just from moving a little.
“Besides, a monster? Me, a monster? Pfft, is that something you should say? You’re the same kind as me.”
“The same?”
My sister’s eyebrows twitched at that laughter-tinged word.
Soon, my sister glared at Kang Seon-a, her eyes blazing. I
t was an unfamiliar sight for me, who had only ever seen her gentle face.
“I don’t recall being in the same league as trash like you.”
“No, we’re the same. You’d do anything for that child too, wouldn’t you? Just like me. Even if a wolf wears sheep’s clothing, can it hide its true nature?”
“If I had my way, I’d bury you here right now… but the cops aren’t that stupid. They might have already received a report and be on their way here. I’ll be leaving now.”
The end of the short but fierce fight was quite anticlimactic.
Kang Seon-a smiled, looking much the same as when we parted yesterday, and waved her hands dismissively.
Then, limping slightly, she walked up the slope of the alley.
“Oh, and Sia.”
“I’m sorry about today. I really didn’t mean to kill you. I just got a little excited, that’s all… As a token of my apology, here’s a piece of advice: you should be careful of your sister.”
Be careful of my sister? What did that mean? Kang Seon-a said, suddenly turning around.
A surge of anger welled up. Who did she think she was, talking about my sister like that?
I clenched my fists, but before I could demand an answer, my sister’s small hand grabbed my arm and pulled.
“Let’s go home, Sia.”
Yes.
