Chapter 22
Raise Three Idols Well And They’ll Launch a Confession Attack.
Episode 22: I Already Want To Leave My Job.
“So, what kind of work do you want me to do?”
This wasn’t because I couldn’t figure out what I should do here.
It was because there seemed to be too much for me to handle.
If I wasn’t careful, I might end up with an average of only two hours of sleep while handling everything.
A company without a proper system needs to grind through manpower to function.
“First of all, I expect you, Team Leader Seon, to take on a comprehensive role in planning and managing schedules. That’s why I gave you the title of Team Leader.”
Cheon Aram added that she planned to hire more experts, so I shouldn’t worry too much about lacking practical knowledge.
It was a considerate remark.
But I didn’t think I lacked practical knowledge compared to those so-called experts.
I just couldn’t prove it, but the experience I gained before returning wasn’t insignificant.
I replied to Cheon Aram’s words, determined not to make her think of hiring additional experts.
“I won’t disappoint you.”
Cheon Aram nodded and continued.
“But that’s something to do after creating a normal team.”
“So, can I interpret that as you wanting me to take on a scouting role for now?”
“As expected of Team Leader Seon. You’re right again.”
Cheon Aram smiled brightly and said.
“I heard from my eldest brother. While working as Manager for Seonghwan, you perfectly matched all four members of the debut team just by briefly filming at SS.”
“So that reached the President’s ears as well.”
“I was the one in charge of recruitment.”
I somewhat understood why Cheon Aram held me in high regard.
“Anyway, one of the reasons I hired you, Team Leader Seon, is because of your insight. I want you to use that for TwoBear Entertainment.”
In fact, it was just utilizing the knowledge from before my regression.
I was far from having such a genius-like insight.
But it wasn’t something that couldn’t be replicated.
I had knowledge about the stars before my regression.
I even knew which schools some of them were studying at now.
Additionally, with the fraudulent ability of the system, I could assess others’ talents.
If I couldn’t show my ‘insight’ with these abilities, I might as well die.
I spoke with confidence.
“I will achieve more than you expect, President Cheon.”
“I really like that. Just request the budget, and we’ll actively support what you need. Show your talent to the fullest.”
I liked that statement.
“Then, I’ll start moving now.”
“Ah, wait. There’s something you need to know before that.”
I stopped in my tracks.
“Miss Gyeoul, could you step out for a moment? This is a sensitive matter.”
Gyeoul looked at me and Cheon Aram, tilted her head, and quietly went outside.
“What is it that Gyeoul shouldn’t hear?”
“It’s okay if she hears it, but personally, I’d prefer fewer people know about it.”
It was a meaningful remark.
“Our company doesn’t have a normal staffing structure, does it?”
“…Right. Honestly, it’s embarrassing to even call it a company.”
Cheon Aram chuckled at my honest words and spoke.
“There’s a reason for that.”
Cheon Aram looked around near the door to check if anyone was eavesdropping.
I wondered what was so important that she cared so much about security.
Thanks to that, I also became a bit tense.
“Team Leader Seon, do you believe in supernatural abilities?”
“Supernatural abilities? Like superpowers?”
“Something like that. Seeing ghosts or reading minds.”
It felt somewhat out of the blue, but I didn’t hesitate to answer.
Because the answer to that question had been decided within me a long time ago.
“I believe.”
I was currently benefiting from a supernatural ability called the management system.
I didn’t think I was the only one experiencing such a miracle.
“Surprising. I thought you, Team Leader Seon, wouldn’t believe in such things.”
“I’m more open-minded than I seem.”
“Good. I think it will make things easier to understand. To put it bluntly, I also have such an ability.”
Cheon Aram said, rubbing her lips with a strange expression.
“It’s an ambiguous thing, whether it’s a power or a curse.”
Even though I’d only known her for a short time, I didn’t think Cheon Aram would joke while giving such an explanation.
So I believed her when she said she had superpowers and asked.
“What kind of ability?”
“I can smell people with impure intentions. Such people emit a stench that’s unbearable. If it’s severe, it can even make me pass out.”
I understood why she used the words ‘ability’ and ‘curse’ simultaneously.
If it had the risk she described, the pain would be immense.
“What do you mean by impure intentions?”
“I can’t define it exactly either. I can’t compare the smell to someone’s thoughts.”
It seemed she didn’t have a system to kindly explain her abilities.
“Still, don’t you have some idea?”
“Yes, I do. I consider it greed.”
I thought about the word ‘greed’ for a moment and asked.
“I’m not doubting your words, President Cheon. But I think that’s a bit ambiguous.”
Greed was a word that could be interpreted very broadly.
“Everyone has desires. It’s not because people are immoral, but because they are living beings with appetites, sexual desires, and a need for sleep.”
Without those desires, humanity wouldn’t have developed this far.
Without them, they wouldn’t go through the trouble of surviving.
“I agree with that. If I perceived desire itself as a stench, I wouldn’t be able to be in the same space as anyone.”
I nodded.
“So I consider it as ‘greed that seeks to gain at the expense of others.’”
Thanks to Cheon Aram’s comment, the meaning became more concrete than before.
But I still didn’t understand.
“It became a bit more specific, but it still doesn’t change that it’s a universal human sentiment. As long as people have a sense of self, they can’t help but be self-centered.”
“Right, it’s just that they don’t say it. People who seek profit at the expense of others are everywhere.”
“That’s true. It’s better than smelling desire itself, but it doesn’t change that most people need to be avoided. It’s impossible to live a normal daily life.”
“As expected of Team Leader Seon, you’ve got it right again.”
“….”
From that indifferent acknowledgment, I grasped what kind of life Cheon Aram must have lived.
She mentioned that it could make her pass out.
Building normal human relationships must have been impossible.
Not just school, but any place with a lot of people.
“…You’ve had a hard time.”
“Well, even if there’s a stench, it’s not impossible to be with others. It takes a few hours for me to pass out.”
Cheon Aram waved her hand as if it wasn’t a big deal.
“I can go to crowded places. I just have to endure small problems like breaking out in hives all over my body, headaches, and nausea after just ten minutes.”
That’s not a small problem, you crazy woman.
“That’s why we have an unusually low number of employees at TwoBear Entertainment. Whenever I interview someone, the stench is overwhelming.”
I wouldn’t want to hire someone like that either.
Even without the stench’s side effects, it would be hard to trust and hire someone with greed that assumes sacrifice.
Thinking that way, Cheon Aram’s ability was indeed a talent.
She wouldn’t hire someone who would stab her in the back.
“We’ll have to eat from the same pot for quite a while, so I couldn’t just send away someone like a passerby. That’s why I was so picky in choosing people.”
Cheon Aram smiled at me like a snake and said.
“You and Miss Gyeoul are the ones who passed through that narrow gate. I’ll acknowledge you both as humanitarians. You can consider it an honor.”
I couldn’t tell whether I should be pleased or wary of being certified by Cheon Aram as a person without greed.
Especially since I had vowed to become a self-centered person after my regression.
For now, I decided not to overthink it.
“Are you telling me this secret to consider that smell when scouting?”
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Cheon Aram clapped her hands as if impressed and said.
“Our Team Leader Seon is quick to understand. Yes, that’s the top priority in our recruitment policy at TwoBear Entertainment. Hire people who don’t have that smell, so-called humanitarians.”
It was a difficult request.
How could I know and choose based on others’ greed?
I thought that to endure the tough life of a trainee and make it to debut, one needed strong greed, so it was even more difficult.
But what could I do?
I had to follow what the employer wanted.
“Understood. I’ll try to find people who don’t seem to have that kind of greed.”
“Okay, I’ll support you.”
I bowed to Cheon Aram and left the training room.
It seemed I would have to do a lot of legwork to meet future top idols who weren’t trainees yet while considering their character.
I brought in a kid with outstanding rap skills who would be a prime example of a girl crush.
“Oh, the smell. Rejected!”
I brought in a kid who would become a celebrity in the modeling world, showcasing the beauty of East Asian women.
“They smell musty and nasty. I don’t want to see them often. Rejected!”
I brought in a kid with a pure and cute image who would shoot a lot of commercials.
“…Terrible. I can’t be in the same space with this kid for three minutes. Rejected.”
“…”
I already wanted to quit.
