Episode 202: The Angel Who Dreams (7)
He had overslept. That was the boy’s first thought.
He thought he had slept so long that he could remember his dream, or rather, he had slept so deeply that he was immersed in the dream.
The boy touched his damp eyes and muttered in a sleepy voice,
“Did I, cry?”
Had he dreamed a sad dream? Or perhaps a scary one. The boy wiped the remaining tears from his eyes and tried to recall the dream.
“…It must have been a sad dream.”
It was a bittersweet dream. But the boy didn’t know the word ‘bittersweet.’
So, even though there were surely happy, exciting, joyful, and anticipated moments in that dream, he could only describe it as a sad dream.
It would have been better if he hadn’t dreamed it at all…
“Sweetie, are you awake now?”
“Mmm, Mom.”
The boy naturally snuggled into his mother’s arms. Seeing him rub his cheek and hug her tightly with his small hands, his mother just smiled.
“You’re being extra clingy today? Did you have a nightmare?”
Could that dream be called a nightmare. The boy shook his head and burrowed deeper into her embrace without saying a word.
“It wasn’t a nightmare? Then what did you dream about?”
How could he describe that dream. The boy didn’t know the difficult words to accurately describe it.
That’s why he didn’t want to tell his mother.
Because that dream wasn’t simply a sad dream.
“I wonder what kind of dream you had? Mom is curious too.”
The boy slowly looked up at his mom. Her bruised hand, split lip, and the white gauze covering one eye. Seeing his mom like that, the boy couldn’t say anything and just continued being clingy.
But to the boy’s mother, he was simply adorable.
“Now, you haven’t forgotten what day it is today, have you?”
His mom smiled brightly, as if those injuries were nothing. And so the boy couldn’t help but smile a little too.
“What day is it today?”
“My birthday.”
And so, the boy’s birthday began.
* * *
And then people looked up and saw a black sky.
“What’s this?”
“It suddenly got dark.”
“It’s not an eclipse or something, is it?”
12 PM, the time when the sun should rule the sky, a time of light. But it was so dark that if you didn’t know, you would think it was midnight.
“Why does the phone’s light seem so dim.”
“Seriously, it’s like the light is being sucked away.”
No, it couldn’t even be compared to the midnight darkness. This darkness was far different from natural darkness.
A sky that seemed determined not to allow even a shred of light, making everything dark. Under such a sky, people were becoming terrified.
“The Demon King, the Demon King has come.”
“It’s the end of the world. Just like how the other world was destroyed because of the Demon King, we will also be destroyed now. Not a single person will survive.”
“Shut your jinx mouth. Yes, the hero will appear!”
Or rather, it could be said that they were gripped with fear.
“Haha, a Hero. It’s all bullshit.”
“He has come! He has come to judge us!”
“Where is the Hero, the Hero from the Seocheon Yu family?”
“No, I don’t want to die…”
In other words, it could be said that they had become like beasts.
“It’s all over now.”
“Come here, come here I said!”
“If we’re going to die anyway, might as well do it once.”
But the true expression would be that they were melting into darkness.
“The darkness, this world is too dark.”
“You, me, all of us, in the darkness.”
Yes.
People were melting into darkness.
And watching all this from the sky was a boy in black. Seeing that boy floating all alone up there, some might even call him a ‘king.’
Thus, the boy was called the Demon King.
“I’ll show you the truth.”
The boy called the Demon King said in a voice full of excitement.
“An absolute truth that you cannot avoid, cannot deny, and cannot hide.”
And the Demon King began to wave his arms to a rhythm that couldn’t be heard. No, this wasn’t simply waving his arms.
The Demon King was conducting a song. A song that no one could hear, but everyone had to dance to.
A dark world makes people dark, and those darkened people further darken the world. A repeating, looping song of karma.
That’s why the demon king could continue conducting. He would not stop conducting until there was no one left to sing.
Unless someone stopped him.
There was no calling out his name, no meeting of eyes, no greetings, not even hostility.
A blue, shining sword simply cut through the darkness.
“Haa, don’t you know you’re supposed to sit still during a performance?”
The Demon King frowned. A faint red line remained on his wrist. It disappeared quickly, but the fact that he had been cut couldn’t be denied.
And the name of the man who almost severed the Demon King’s wrist was…
“Park Jin-ho, what an ill-mannered man you are.”
…Park Jin-ho, the vice-principal of the Central Superhuman Academy, known as the Sword Saint.
“Yes, this professor knows nothing of manners.”
Park Jin-ho spoke.
“All I know is the sword!”
The sword silently sliced through the darkness. The Sword Saint’s swordsmanship even cut the vibrations in the air that create sound, literally killing the sound.
“True Cheongu Swordsmanship: Azure.”
So, despite being a supersonic, or even a near light-speed attack that had surpassed the speed of sound and could be compared to light itself, it was quieter than a butterfly flapping its wings.
With the persistent attack aiming for his wrist, the Demon King had no choice but to stop conducting.
“It’s truly a marvelous sword strike. If a material accelerating at sub-light speed collided with the atmosphere, it would cause a tremendous explosion.”
“Do you think this professor would commit such a blunder?”
It doesn’t cut molecules. It doesn’t make molecules collide with each other. It just reaches the Demon King through the gaps.
If an ignorant superhuman saw this, it would look like Park Jin-ho was standing still while the Demon King was leaving afterimages and distancing himself.
Park Jin-ho’s swordsmanship, beyond a mere divine feat, it transcended divinity.
Finally, the Demon King nodded and had no choice but to draw his own sword.
“It’s a pity. If you could wield a holy sword, you might have been able to stop me.”
The True Demon Sword, the shadow of the holy sword and the best magic sword in the world. All superhuman swordsmen are magic swordsmen, and every sword they wield is merely a lesser version of this True Demon Sword.
*Sss—Sss—Sss—*
A faint sound began to emerge from Park Jin-ho’s sword strikes, which had been completely silent. This was because the Cheongu Holy Sword, one of the greatest magic swords on earth, started to crack as soon as it clashed with the True Demon Sword.
A magic swordsman cannot defeat the demon king.
Thus, the sound gradually grew louder, and the Demon King’s lips curled into a cruel smile.
However, Park Jin-ho was not the only professor at the Central Superhuman Academy.
The demon king suddenly clutched his side.
His twisted face showed that he was clearly in pain.
“You can’t ignore the pain of your damaged internal organs, can you? As expected, even a Fallen Angel seems to have a similar physical structure to a human.”
“Lusa…”
Fairy Martial Arts is largely divided into three branches: striking techniques, binding techniques, and counter techniques. Striking techniques are literally hitting the opponent’s body with fists and feet, binding techniques are what are called ground or grappling techniques in the secular world, and counter techniques are the general term for techniques that parry or reverse the opponent’s moves.
However, for Lusa, such distinctions were unnecessary. Why?
“You think I would fall for it twice…!”
The Demon King could read karma. That meant he could foresee the future to some extent. So, the Demon King was aware that Lusa would attack his side again.
He planned to grab Lusa’s leg as she aimed for his side with a Crescent Moon Kick, then pour dark karma into it, smearing her leg away.
Just as Lusa’s shin approached his side, the moment the demon king inwardly shouted ‘Now!’ and reached out his hand.
Lusa’s leg deviated just 3 cm from its trajectory, pressing down on the Demon King’s wrist bone and reversing the flow of karma, piercing through the Demon King’s defense.
She struck the demon king’s side with her shin, so it was a striking technique. At the same time, by binding the Demon King’s wrist, it was a binding technique. Finally, by using the Demon King’s power against him, it was a counter technique.
All of Lusa’s attacks were simultaneously strikes, binds, and counters.
“You all hid your strength quite well in front of my avatar?”
“You did the same, Demon King.”
However, even with Lusa’s attack, the Demon King did not collapse. In fact, he even looked completely unharmed.
“I’m relieved.”
“What?”
The Demon King once again wore a cruel smile.
“That what you’re hiding is only this much. I’m truly relieved.”
Crack- The sound of glass breaking was heard, and a black distortion began to form around the Demon King. Absolute Solitude. The strongest defensive technique that gathers the darkness of solitude, which arises from being disconnected from each other, to isolate dimensions.
“I’m also relieved, you bastard. For using this technique!”
But Lusa didn’t stop attacking. With her strong hands, she grabbed the isolated dimension itself and began applying a joint lock.
Thus, Lusa began to crush the demon king inside Absolute Solitude with Absolute Solitude itself.
“Die in solitude, Demon King.”
““I’ll return those words exactly. Fallen Elf.”
Crack—Another cracking sound, and the demon king’s Absolute Solitude suddenly vanished. And that vanished Absolute Solitude…
“Demon King!”
…was now surrounding Lusa.
“You were always a child with too much loneliness. Can you endure this solitude?”
As the demon king clenched his fist, Absolute Solitude began to shrink. Lusa tried to push it away with her strength, but it only slightly slowed it down.
Watching the trapped Lusa, the demon king spoke.
“Klein, you can come out now.”
“I’m still preparing, but you’re being too impatient, Demon King.”
Klein had been hiding his body within an obscurity spell. In the empty space beneath his feet was a magic formula engraved so intricate and complex that it resembled a machine circuit.
“Do you really think you have a chance of winning?”
“Of course. We don’t fight battles we can’t win.”
“Oh? You can’t even read karma, yet you claim to read the odds of victory. You humans are truly repulsive and disgusting creatures.”
The Demon King couldn’t hide his contempt and twisted his mouth.
“Professor Park Jin-ho has sealed the True Demon Sword, and Lusa has taken Absolute Solitude. Your strongest sword and shield, both sealed…”
“Sealed? No, it’s just that they’ve been delayed for a moment, dealing with your comrades.”
“A moment is more than enough.”
The area beneath Klein’s feet began to glow brightly.
Such a bright light in this world overflowing with darkness.
Many people who were fleeing on the ground saw that light and thought of the moon rising in the darkest night.
“I see, it was all a strategy. Lusa and Park Jin-ho sealed my sword and shield… and the saint, assassin, and archer are preparing, right? Fine.”
But the Demon King was not flustered. If anything, he was arrogant, befitting a Demon King, and spoke boldly.
“Show me everything you’ve got.”
The overflowing darkness began to converge toward the demon king.
“Truth is that which can never be broken. I’ll show you the true meaning of truth.”
