Chapter 20: Mobile Errand Service
by AfuhfuihgsMobile Errand Service
The time I could remain as surplus manpower was 2 weeks from now.
Of course, it wasn’t a particularly long time… but it wasn’t that short either, right?
If the circumstances align well, it’s enough time to clear all the non-combat achievements that exist in the early part of the story.
Therefore, I first set priorities.
I thought about what achievements would be convenient to progress first.
After recalling what requests or side stories I needed to proceed with to clear achievements, all that remained was action.
So, after making thorough preparations in my own way, I was waiting for the elevator when.
“Don’t go cause trouble somewhere, don’t follow strangers, don’t readily accept if someone offers you candy…”
Endless nagging that wasn’t quite nagging came from Asha, who was waiting for the elevator alongside me.
Even that was soon interrupted by a call seeking the guild master, but her worried gaze was still looking at me.
I slowly raised my head, which had been continuously nodding whenever Asha’s voice was heard, and met Asha’s eyes.
What I uttered then was a bright voice without a trace of tension.
“Can I buy something delicious to eat?”
Perhaps thanks to looking at her with eyes full of nothing but anticipation, Asha didn’t shake her head either.
Instead, though it’s not quite a replacement, she followed up with a request to always take pictures and send them to her whenever I entered a restaurant or anywhere else.
“Ah, you know how to take pictures, right?”
Almost simultaneously, click.
I answered by skillfully operating the device and taking a picture of Asha.
“Ah, Big Sister, your eyes were closed.”
“…Were they?”
So, until the elevator, which had stopped at the floor just below, came up, there was an unexpected photo time that I hadn’t anticipated.
Finally boarding the elevator, I arrived at the guild headquarters lobby where the main entrance was visible about 10 minutes later.
I unconsciously turned my steps, which were automatically heading forward, slightly to the left toward the request office.
I wasn’t sure if the request I wanted had appeared, but there was no harm in checking in advance.
As expected, the request office was bustling with various hunters and staff.
Because there were quite a few people who pretended to know me, it took some time to inquire about the request I wanted.
After somehow arriving at one of the counters in the request office, I approached a staff member who was marveling at my sudden appearance and asked them to check if the request I had in mind was available.
However, the request office staff member, while sifting through the documents piled in front of them, informed me of several requests beyond those I had in mind.
“Um, can I do all of these?”
“All of these? All of them?”
“Yes!”
After a slight deliberation, I asked to be assigned all the requests the staff member had told me about.
The deadlines for the requests were generous compared to the time it would take to complete them, so I didn’t think it would be particularly challenging.
As expected, I was repeatedly asked if it was really okay, but since these were just matters of gathering certain ‘information’.
I succeeded in receiving a notebook and pen necessary for progressing with the requests from the staff member who had a slightly embarrassed expression.
I wondered why, out of all those pens, they gave me a thick one with a character decoration attached… but anyway.
“Be sure to let me know if you find out anything~.”
Only after receiving another “fighting” cheer did I move my steps toward the outside of the guild headquarters again.
Hmm, where should I go first?
I was momentarily at a loss because no matter which direction I went, I would eventually have to go around this area once.
However, before I could make a decision, a slightly savory yet fragrant smell tickled my nose.
“Come to think of it, there were only snacks in the office…?”
I let my footsteps be guided by instinct, justifying it with various reasons and grounds.
Not long after, what was located in front of my stopped feet was a famous franchise bakery in <Another World>.
It was clearly a copy of Pa▉ Baguette no matter how you looked at it, but who cares.
-Ding-a-ling.
“Welcome~.”
As I gently pushed open the glass door, what reached my ears was the voice of a clerk that seemed like the word “kindness” brought to reality.
What tickled my nose, working even harder than a few seconds ago, was the intensified delicious smell.
What appeared in my increasingly widening eyes were various kinds of bread that somehow seemed to have a halo around them.
Oh, was Pa▉ Baguette such an amazing place…?
Or is it because I’m a beast person with enhanced senses?
-Gulp.
“I’ll take everything from here to here… Ah, no. Never mind.”
For a moment, I almost uttered a line that a conglomerate heir might say in a bakery.
Barely grasping my reason that had flown away at some point, I selected and gathered the most delicious-looking varieties.
After completing the payment, the bread was poured into a small paper bag, and only then did I belatedly remember my promise with Asha.
Before heading to the request location, which would appear after walking a bit further, I sat at an outdoor table for a moment and took a picture while taking a bite of something like a cream puff, then sent it.
After that, I ended up devouring another one because it tasted much better than I had expected.
For some reason, the desire to eat a few more slowly raised its head from somewhere in my heart, but somehow I resisted and started walking toward the request location again.
After walking for about ten more minutes, I finally arrived at the first request location.
From the outside, it looked like an ordinary, slightly old pharmacy, but what it actually dealt with were potions and small artifacts.
And the location was quite in a corner alley.
It was a place that exuded a somewhat secretive atmosphere, a bit too much to say I had entered by chance.
But that was only for people visiting the [Workshop] for the first time.
From the perspective of someone who had visited dozens of times due to all sorts of repeatable quests, it felt not unfamiliar but rather like coming to a hometown.
“Hello~.”
“Oh, who is this?”
I deliberately bowed slightly while greeting the workshop owner who had just come out from inside.
Perhaps because even conversations that were nothing more or less than small talk remained fully in my memory, it felt like I had known this person for a few decades.
Of course, from their perspective, they probably wondered why a child who didn’t quite match this secretive atmosphere had come all the way to such a secluded place, but anyway.
“I’m from Lunatic!”
“You are?”
As might be expected, they were momentarily puzzled by the fact that such a young child was a guild member, but the information in the device doesn’t lie.
The conversation that followed was about an herb I had heard about from the request office staff earlier.
I asked how much of the herb, which is currently mainly used as an ingredient for recovery potions, the workshop currently had.
“Hmm, there should be about two boxes in the workshop. There are some kept in a separate warehouse too.”
I nodded to the workshop owner’s question asking if they could go to the warehouse for a moment.
What I needed to find out was simply the maximum amount of herbs the guild could purchase.
From the Lunatic Guild’s perspective, what they really needed to know was probably the amount of recovery potions that could be made from the herbs, but the content of the request ended with finding out the amount of herbs.
I decided to focus solely on the request itself for now.
It was about 20 minutes later when the workshop owner, who had gone to the underground warehouse, returned to me.
“Five boxes plus four roots.”
“Five boxes, four roots.”
As the total quantity was slowly uttered from the workshop owner’s mouth, I repeated it with my own mouth while writing it down in the notebook.
Then came the question of whether there was anything more I needed to find out, anything more they needed to inform me of.
Strictly speaking, the request that needed to be carried out at the workshop was already complete, but…
“Then, could you find out if there are potions that can be used for burns? And also─”
Since I had come to the workshop anyway, I decided to prepare in advance the potions needed for a ‘small commotion’ that would occur in the guild headquarters in a few days.
Only after the workshop owner returned to the inside of the workshop again, click.
I took another picture with various potions and colorful steam-emitting experimental glass bottles in the background and sent it.
However, among the messages that arrived from Asha while I couldn’t check the device, there was one asking me to buy a ‘cake’ that I wanted.
At this ‘choice’ event that occurred almost for the first time, I hurriedly began to flip through my memories.
What I needed to recall were the birthdays of key characters that I absolutely had to know to increase favorability.
Since they all liked different types of cake, I needed to cater to their tastes to maximize favorability.
So, by process of elimination, crossing out people whose birthdays had already passed or were still far away, I was left with a total of two.
But there was still about a week left until those people’s birthdays…
Is there a need to buy a birthday cake today?
