Chapter 192
Otherworld Demon King Survival Guide.
Episode 192: Dark Elves (3)
“Are you all ready?”
“Yes! Everything’s ready, Master!”
The preparations for war were complete. Now, it’s just about heading to the battlefield. All supplies had been sorted, and the invasion route would be guided by the Lamias and Pixies.
The Dark Elves had yet to finish their village and hadn’t completed the palisades either. Now was the perfect time to strike while they were focused on their labor.
“Then assemble! Everyone, grab your gear and gather at the drill field!”
“Cackle!”
Buril shouted loudly, saluting as he dashed out. The dungeon became noisy all at once. My soldiers started gathering at the drill field.
“Today!”
And.
“Our target is the Dark Elves!”
I climbed onto the platform and shouted.
“You remember the ones who invaded us last time! They are invaders! Enemies trying to harm our family! Such enemies have settled right there in front of us!”
I infused my voice with magical power, almost spewing fire as I spoke. Demon breath could be quite useful in such situations.
ㅡKeureuuuuk!
ㅡGgureuuuuk!
ㅡGyusatsat!
Following that, my soldiers roared! At their core, these guys were monsters! I had verified several times that they possessed a barbaric fighting spirit! If I had soldiers filled with such spirit, defeat was not an option for me!
“Therefore, we will ambush them! Go and smash them all to pieces! We can’t share our living space with a race like the Dark Elves! Strike first! Attack and seize victory!!!”
ㅡWaaaaaaaah!
Even the Pixies screamed out.
“Then, it’s time to march! All squad leaders! Proceed with the march as discussed!”
Right.
ㅡChuk chuk chuk.
ㅡChuk chuk chuk.
ㅡChuk chuk chuk.
My army advanced.
It was a sight to behold. All the experience we had accumulated was not in vain. Fighting alongside me, all my subordinates had transformed into powerful elite soldiers.
Didn’t we just recently annihilate the Orcs without any casualties? Such experiences amplified their fighting spirit and desire for war. And, having done this so many times, they all naturally exuded an elite demeanor through their actions.
“Shaa. Master. It seems truly remarkable this time.”
“Right?”
It seems even Sharan could feel it. Experienced soldiers just marched differently.
“But I’m a bit worried about the new recruits.”
They were the recently air-dropped new recruits. I grouped them separately and placed them in the rear. They had hardly trained and were low-skilled, so they were assigned tasks like transporting supplies.
Unless it’s an emergency, they wouldn’t be thrown into combat. Their job today was just to observe the war. Watching this firsthand was an invaluable experience. They’d quickly become skilled soldiers.
“Shaa. Sharan too is worried.”
“I’m worried too. I wonder if they’ll run away during the battle.”
Sharan and Lumica were also worried.
“So, please keep a good eye on them. Make sure they don’t flee.”
“Yes, Master.”
And so the march continued.
“Hmm.”
Wow, but.
Having a brain was really convenient. The captured mage Ruby was handling calculations and management regarding supplies, which had been really helpful.
I didn’t have to think about it myself because she was handling everything, which had significantly reduced my burden. I really wanted to capture more capable women like her to use as brains.
“Hmm… Master Demon. To be honest with you.”
“Yes. Speak your mind.”
“If we move along this waterway, there’s a high likelihood of being detected.”
Currently, we were marching along the waterway. The plan was to use it as far as possible.
“There’s nothing we can do about that. The enemy isn’t a lowly race like the Orcs but rather Dark Elves, similar to the Lamias, right? It’s not just a small scouting party this time; a force this size will inevitably be detected, I believe.”
That’s a risk we had already accepted.
Now, we were no longer a small unit. If we were to confront intelligent races like the Dark Elves, it’s inevitable that our march would be detected.
“That’s true… Having a large number might not always be a good thing, Master Demon.”
“No, it is always good. Even if we are detected, what can they do about it? The Pixies are already scouting diligently.”
Of course, we must prevent any ambushes during the march. No matter how elite my subordinates were, being stabbed in the flank during a march would cause significant damage.
Naturally, scouting and vigilance were ongoing.
ㅡBoooong.
Just then, a Pixie flew in.
“Oh, Pixie. How’s it looking over there?”
“Nothing much. Haven’t seen any Dark Elves yet.”
“Good job. Rest your wings a bit and then return.”
I had also selected some of the fastest on foot to march at a distance.
“So don’t worry. We are fully prepared. Pixies and others are monitoring everything on the ground and in the air. Besides, moving a force this large stealthily is simply not possible, Lady Juria. We do what we must. We must boldly discard what is not needed.”
There’s a story in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms where Liu Bei silently climbed a cliff to attack the Yellow Turbans from behind, utterly crushing them. That was truly amazing.
Was that human?
“Ho… Indeed. It seems your perspective is different from mine, Master Demon. I understand. I will trust and follow your words.”
“You’ve made a wise decision.”
I guess I needed to create a specialized squad for terrestrial scouting during our marches. Perhaps call it a scouting squad?
That’s how we moved.
The next day.
“Found them! Dark Elves!”
While we were marching, one Pixie brought urgent news.
“Everyone halt. The enemy has been spotted. Prepare for battle. Pass this quietly to the person in front.”
I immediately issued a stop and prepared for battle order and listened to the detailed report from the Pixie.
“Which direction?”
“Over there! There were two of them! Two male Dark Elves armed with spears, they just arrived!”
The tone was urgent.
“Do you think they’ve spotted us?”
“Uh… I don’t know. Not sure about that.”
“I see. Any chance there are more of them around?”
“Only saw those two in the vicinity… not sure about others. Sorry.”
Only two enemies.
“No need to apologize. You did well scouting. Let others know… Sharan, could you handle that? Pixie, please guide the Lamias.”
Time for punitive action.
Better to strike first.
“Lady Juria. Two male Dark Elf warriors. Can three Lamias handle them?”
“Of course. It could be risky in a head-on fight, but now…”
“We spotted them first.”
“Then it’s possible.”
Juria smiled again, snake-like, seemingly enjoying the hunt-like nature of the battle.
“Understood. Take three Lamias and capture them alive.”
“As commanded.”
Juria bowed and then spoke to the Pixie. Armed Lamias soon joined her, murmuring as if planning the operation.
They would capture the prisoners on their own.
“Indeed, well done. The more I see, the more I think you have the talent of a commander.”
As this happened, Vanessa expressed her admiration.
“Since our force isn’t that large yet. Vanessa, couldn’t you handle this level?”
“If I had full control over the troops, perhaps. But that itself is a difficult task.”
“That is true.”
It’s indeed a difficult task, but I had done this several times after dropping into the jungle. It’s all about accumulating experience.
“I also want to join the sortie.”
“Really?”
What’s this?
“Are you asking for an opportunity to distinguish yourself?”
“Is that not possible?”
This was welcome news! Vanessa was now requesting to join the sortie to earn her own glory!
“Hehehe, so you’ve developed the desire to earn glory for me! Welcome! Since you’ve spoken so admirably, I will treat you kindly next time!”
“Uh, umm… that’s not quite what I meant. But okay, I’ll help the Lamias.”
ㅡJingle jangle.
Vanessa approached Juria immediately. Juria and Sasunall were both curious about how strong the knight named Vanessa was.
Soon, the punitive force was deployed.
They would do well and return.
While keeping guard and resting.
ㅡSararak.
The punitive force returned.
“Ugh…”
“Kuk…”
Dragging two male Dark Elf warriors, almost like rags.
“We have completed the mission, Master Demon.”
“They were easier opponents than expected.”
Juria and Vanessa said, their expressions triumphant.
“Wow! You completed it quicker than I thought! I expected it to take more time! You finished the mission much faster than I anticipated!”
Admiring them, I touched their heads, and both women blushed.
“It was a simple task. We ambushed them, so they hardly had time to resist. Oh, and Vanessa rushing through our Lamias to quickly subdue the enemies was also impressive.”
“The Lamias’ bodies acted as natural cover. It’s natural for the enemies to be surprised if you suddenly appear from behind them.”
Whether it was fighting together that sparked their camaraderie, watching the two women talk this way was quite pleasant.
“Anyway, we’ll handle the rewards for this later. Juria. And Vanessa. We’re going to strike the Dark Elves again, so if there’s any necessary information, please find out immediately. I’ll decide the attack plan based on that.”
“Understood.”
This prisoner wasn’t like the last ones who were nearly dead. It seems we’d be able to extract meaningful information.
Just knowing the completeness of their palisades and their patrol routes would be a jackpot. With that information, we could perfect our ambush.
“This is starting off with a good feeling.”
Was that why they sent only two for scouting?
That’s why preemptive strikes were advantageous in war. The difference between being prepared and not could be decisive.
