Chapter 17 : That guy is using black sorcery!!!

    “What magic is Meteor?”

Answering that question proved more difficult than I thought.

Even though I couldn’t use magic based on elemental concepts, I knew the theory inside and out.

Meteor is a large-scale area-of-effect magic that drops a giant fireball from the sky.

If a physicist saw it, they would clutch their neck and collapse.

After realizing that this place was a world of magic and mystery, I forgot about physics.

Meteor is one of the lost magics.

Its lineage and spell have been completely severed, making it one of the magics that can never be seen again.

Restoring such magic is a great honor for all wizards.

That’s why there were many people who raised their voices even on such absurd topics.

It seemed the red-haired woman sitting next to me was quite high in the ranks.

Or maybe she was just a very loud person.

    Or perhaps both.

The topic of this debate was ‘What attribute or school of magic is Meteor?’ and she was adamantly arguing that it was fire magic.

“Isn’t it obvious that Meteor is a fire-type magic?”

It was clear that this woman was responsible for the noise I had heard so far.

She was definitely the major shareholder of noise, holding at least 90% of the stake.

“Meteor is just dropping a fireball from the sky. If that’s not fire magic, then what is it?”

Judging by her appearance, this woman seemed to be from the fire school.

I heard that the fire-type schools have a lot of red hair and outfits due to their strong pride.

And a quick temper to boot.

“Rena, I cannot accept that statement.”

    “What?”

An old man with snow-white hair refuted her words.

So, the woman next to me was named Rena.

“It is undeniable that fire is created when Meteor falls. But isn’t Meteor itself a kind of rock?”

    “…That’s right.”

“Then shouldn’t we consider Meteor as a type of earth magic that manipulates rocks?”

The old man unfolded his logic gently, like his harmless appearance.

I feel like I’ve seen that person somewhere.

    “…Professor Abel?”

“Ms. Trea, wasn’t it? It’s my first time meeting you in a place like this. Nice to meet you.”

    “Yes, me too…”

Professor Abel was my magic professor.

I couldn’t attend his magic class because I broke my arm.

I never thought I would see him in a place like this.

I thought it was just a gathering of weirdos, but it turned out to be quite a big deal.

A magic debate with a magic professor from the Academy participating.

Could it be that other people are also very important people?

I whispered to Rena next to me.

    “Excuse me, Ms. Rena?”

    “Call me ‘unni’. What’s up?”

“…That’s a bit much. Are you also some kind of professor?”

I didn’t realize it because there were one or two students mixed in, but when I looked closely, there were far more old people who should be watching their grandchildren at home.

Even if she looks relatively young, could that Rena person also be in an important position?

“Professor? Why would I do something so boring? I work at the Red Magic Tower.”

    “Ah.”

As I expected, she was from the Red Magic Tower, which specializes in fire magic.

I heard that those people have outgoing and fiery personalities, and it seems to be true.

As I nodded, a blue-haired man sitting across from me added.

“The Tower Master also works at the Tower.”

    “Excuse me?”

    “Treva, don’t say unnecessary things.”

“Tower Master? The Red Tower Master?”

I was beyond surprised, I was dumbfounded.

One of the five Tower Masters in the world was sitting next to me.

I thought I was just joining a club.

“Excuse me, but how old are you?…Unni.”

If she’s a Tower Master, she must be at least fifty years old, but her skin was as firm as a 20-year-old’s.

When she glared at me, I quickly added the title of ‘unni’ after her name.

“A woman’s age is a secret. My heart is always in my twenties, though.”

    “…I see.”

I decided not to ask any further.

Of course, I should respect her privacy.

It’s not just because my side was too hot.

“Anyway, ice-wrapper, aren’t you being too talkative?”

“I just told her what you didn’t tell her. And I’ve said it many times, the Glacier School is not an ice-wrapper…”

“What are you talking about, is your head all frozen?”

“Are your brain cells all burned out? You arsonist.”

Adults who have eaten three times more rice cake soup than me were raising their voices like children.

Unable to watch any longer, other people mediated between the two.

“Stop, stop. Today is a place to discuss Meteor, not a place to escalate the conflict between the two schools.”

    Professor Abel stopped them.

As expected, when you get older, you become a ‘kkondae’; old people can’t stand seeing others have fun.

There’s nothing as fun as an illegal ice-fire war.

Unfortunately, Rena calmed down and shut her mouth when he spoke.

“Ahem, may I say a word?”

A skinny man in a black robe stood up from his seat.

If you saw him outside, you would think he had a skin disease.

He stood up to make a statement, but the others didn’t look very pleased.

“Could Meteor be a kind of black magic?”

    Instantly, most people’s expressions soured.

Judging by his attire and the atmosphere, this man seemed to be a black magician.

“Why, you know. Summoning magic is also a type of black magic in a broad sense. Summoning meteorites from that far-off universe…”

“If that’s the case, then Holy Magic would be correct. Meteorite, that’s actually the most accurate answer.”

The man in the black coat who first asked me to prove my qualifications opposed his opinion.

He seemed to be the highest-ranking person in the meeting, but who is he?

However, I was hesitant to ask again because two people fought because of my words. Well, it’s not important.

“I’ve read a paper that meteorites are made of ice and dust. Could it be a kind of freezing magic?”

Treva of the Glacier School, who was arguing with Rena, took his words.

That man also looks very unimpressive, but judging from how he speaks informally to Rena, he must be of similar status.

Is this a debate or a competition to show off your school?

As expected, it seemed like they were boasting that they were the best.

Moreover, their outfits were very unique, as if they weren’t wizards.

The majority of the outfits gathered here were colorful.

Even though I don’t know anything about fashion, I’m confident that I can dress better than them.

“Look at him showing off again.”

Rena muttered with a sour face, but she didn’t step forward because she had been warned.

It didn’t matter because Treva’s opinion was quickly buried.

    “Spatial magic is also plausible…”

“Hey, isn’t that too broad? How about narrowing it down to gravity magic?”

    “Well…too much to say that.”

    “Then black magic after all?”

That scrawny black magician was constantly making provocative suggestions.

He looked like a bum who hadn’t left his room in days.

It’s really the end of the world. Even though PC-ism has arrived in today’s world, so even if you don’t offer human sacrifices, black magicians can come out into the light.

    ‘Still trash.’

I think it’s better for black magicians to just stay in the shadows forever or die.

I’ve seen them a couple of times before, and everything from their appearance to their ideology was unlikable.

Yeah, I’m the kind of person who judges people by their appearance and first impressions.

    “I, is this opinion okay?”

At that time, a quiet woman with twinkling eyes spoke up.

There were a few leaves on her clothes, and a small bird was sitting on her shoulder.

I thought she was just a wallflower because she had been stuck in the corner since earlier.

    “Ms. Amy. Speak.”

Professor Abel silenced the noisy atmosphere and gave her the floor.

The woman named Amy cleared her throat and spoke in a lively voice.

“Everyone. What if Meteor isn’t magic, but a kind of sorcery? According to ancient traditions…”

Instantly, the atmosphere turned cold, no, frozen.

The noisy library was filled with silence in an instant.

    I couldn’t stand it anymore.

    I trembled and shouted.

    “…Sorc.”

    “Yes?”

    “Black sorcery.”

    “It’s black sorcery.”

    “Evil…sorcery!”

“Yes, yes? What are you saying?”

    I can’t stand this.

That bi*ch crossed the line hard.

“That guy is using black sorcery!!!”

“How dare you use black sorcery in the sacred Academy!”

    “Catch him! No, kill him!”

    “Hang him! Tear him apart!”

    “…Please stop.”

Only Professor Abel rubbed his throbbing head and chanted a spell.

In an instant, her appearance flickered and disappeared without a trace.

“Professor! How could you put such a harbinger of evil here…”

“Her qualifications were sufficient. It was my mistake.”

Is it just me, or does his hair look much whiter than before?

The chaotic atmosphere only calmed down after a few more minutes.

    “What happened? Teleportation?”

    I asked Rena, panting.

She also sighed and answered me.

“It’s reverse summoning. Many people have difficulty participating due to the distance, so they teleport to the coordinates of this library every Friday.”

I honestly wasn’t that curious about that.

Sorcery. Yes, since this is an Academy, there are plenty of people with various talents.

But this was the Round Table of Wizards, and mentioning sorcery there was crossing the line hard.

Meteor is sorcery? That means you’re looking at everyone here as idiots.

The atmosphere had calmed down a bit, but people were still unable to contain their anger.

“Hoo… It doesn’t seem like the heat will subside. I will end today’s meeting here.”

Professor Abel finished speaking and rang the bell in the center of the Round Table.

Most people disappeared in the same way as her. They must have returned to where they were.

Professor Abel sighed and wiped his glasses.

He looked 10 years older in a short time.

    “Rena? You haven’t left yet.”

“Yeah, I have other business at the Academy, so I came in person today.”

She took out a badge from her pocket and handed it to me.

It was a small bronze badge.

In the middle, there was a small inscription.

    “Bonfire Meeting.”

“That’s the official name of this place.”

A wizards’ meeting that originated long ago, when people sat around a bonfire and debated when night came to the world.

It didn’t appear in the original work, but I’ve heard of it while living in this world.

It was said to be a very great and prestigious meeting. I didn’t expect it to be so childish.

A burst of laughter leaked out.

“Are you coming next time too?”

    “…I’ll try.”

It was a little foolish, disorganized, noisy, and chaotic, and different from what I expected.

But the world seen from the shoulders of giants was beautiful.
