Chapter Index

When the blond haired mage, Hyui, opened his eyes, what greeted him was a vicious gaze that made his heart pound.

    “…Heub!”

He had already suffered intense pain and pressure from that unknown knight, so he already felt suffocated, and as soon as he came to his senses, he once again had to face such a vicious gaze. It wasn’t a wonder that he became light-headed.

However, even if he had fallen to this state, he was still the successor of the Magic Tower. His position required him to be quick in his judgment and thinking, hence why he managed to notice that there was no one else here at the same time as he noticed the man’s vicious gaze.

    He’s not here! He’s gone!

The monster who had kidnapped him from the VIP room in the blink of an eye, who had treated him harshly, who had taken all of the Magic Tower’s important secrets by unknown means, who had always given off a terrible aura, was gone.

    Flinch-!

Moreover, he could move his body a little now.

    Now’s my chance!

Though he was tied by a rope, and the man in front of him seemed to be assigned here to watch him, the important thing here was that the terrifying monster wasn’t here.

    “P-Please…save…me…”

Which meant, he had to at least try to escape.

Maybe because he hadn’t consumed any water for 17 hours, his mouth and throat felt like a rusty harmonica, unable to make any sound properly. However, that didn’t matter to him. The important thing here was that his voice could come out again.

And so, he frantically asked the man with a vicious gaze for help.

As the great successor of the Magic Tower, he had never bowed his head to anyone, and it would be safe to say that he had never once asked a favor to anyone, but right now, he was doing that cowardly thing.

If someone from the Magic Tower were to see this, they’d definitely come to doubt their eyes, but Hyui felt like he’d beg even the devil of hell as long as he could escape from that horrible monster’s clutches.

That was how far he had fallen.

    “I-If you… I-If you help me… I-I’ll give you anything… I-I swear… In the name of the Magic Tower…”

    “…”

    “P-Please…”

Common sense would tell him to not trust anyone with such vicious eyes, let alone ask him for help, but Hyui wasn’t in his right mind right now.

Although if one were to interpret it in a different way, since he was clearly not in his right mind and he was proposing a deal, the other person would definitely be able to get a great one out of it.

    Then…

    “You’re making an interesting proposal.”

    “!!”

The other party’s positive response sent Hyui over to the moon.

Yes! This is the kind of response I want!

He then urgently opened his mouth.

“W-Well then, please prepare some food and water right now…! I need to recover my exhausted body…”

First, he needed to restore his unstable body’s balance.

His strength, stamina, and mental power were all at rock bottom. Even though his magic power was normal, he couldn’t even use basic magic properly. That was why he had to consume something to recuperate, or at least take some water.

As long as he could do that…

    “…”

“W-What are you doing?! Hurry up and get some water…!”

Though he clearly knew that Hyui was in urgent need of sustenance, the man still refused to move. Without realizing it, he lost his temper.

This was a habit that he couldn’t break no matter how hard he tried; a habit where he treated people as if they were inferior lifeforms.

    And because of that…

“…So this is what it feels to be looked down upon by someone, huh?”

The mage didn’t even know that what he did just provoked the man’s feelings.

    Bang-!

    “Kwaaaaak.”

In an instant, the tip of a spear stabbed Hyui in the chest.

    “Ugh… Ugh…!”

He writhed in pain as his skin was torn and his sternum was crushed.

    Drip-!

His blood spurted out from the wound in his chest and soaked the floor.

Towards Hyui who was in pain because of that…

“Stand up. It was just a little joke, stop overreacting.”

    “Ugh!”

That was when Hyui realized. Even though he felt like he was dying, he was still alive.

    “Huh…? HUUUHHH?”

Then, he stared at his own chest, looking around like an idiot.

He was sure that his chest had been pierced. The pain he felt because of it was still vivid in his mind, and his body was still trembling greatly because of that. Moreover, he felt like he was going to lose his mind from fear, terror, and pain.

This was the second time he had experienced the ‘unknown fear’ today.

Normally, anyone in his situation would just go insane on the spot.

    Just like that…

    “Keuk…!”

    Hyui fainted again.

Just like before, his eyes rolled backward again.

    Thud…!

    “…Funny guy.”

The vicious man frowned as he watched the mage faint again. Contrary to his words, he didn’t look amused at all. To such a man…

“Hey, someone’s resting here, can you stop making so much noise?”

    “…”

    “Seriously, treat your customers properly.”

    “…Hmm.”

At this, the man, Lake, just narrowed his eyes and kept his mouth shut.

    “Are you ignoring me…?”

The other guy, Lee Han, grumbled, even though he didn’t expect much. Then, he just drank the milk in front of him carefreely.

    “Woah…”

In any case, he had to admit what he had to admit. The man’s words were not a lie.

How could milk taste like this…!

It’s so good that I can’t help but curse. Just what kind of milk I’ve been drinking all these years…?!

Lee Han felt like he could forgive everything in front of the best milk in both his present and past lives combined.

    **** * ****

    Thud-!

    “Please enjoy it, Sir.”

    “Oh, thank you.”

“You’re welcome. We’re the ones who invited you, so it’s only natural for us to do this .”

“…Do you really share the same blood as that plaster statue? How are you so different from him?”

“Hahaha, I hear that a lot.”

The female knight who brought him shaved ice and ice cream had a close resemblance to the stern-looking spearman. However, unlike the guy, she was a beauty with much gentler eyes and a polite tone.

Lee Han was familiar with her. She was the female knight who took care of Irene Windler when she fainted during the monster terrorism attack. He never thought he’d see her here like this, and more importantly, he never thought he’d end up eating the shaved ice and ice cream she gave him.

    Well…

    Doesn’t matter, I’ll eat it.

Lee Han ate what the female knight gave him without any hesitation whatsoever. Just now, he was amazed by the milk he drank after taking a hot spring bath.

Since the ice cream and stuff were made with that exact milk…

“…Fuck, this thing is also good.”

Another curse out of admiration came out of his mouth.

“It’s a precious milk that only comes from cows blessed by a fairy. It strengthens the bones of the one who consumes it and gives them a sense of satisfaction that will make them feel like they don’t have to eat for three days.”

“…How come I’ve never heard of such precious milk before?”

“That’s only natural. The cows are difficult to raise, and it’s a breed that only exists in Galahad. In a way, it’s a specialty of Galahad.”

“Does that mean someone has to be a Galahad to taste something like this again? Damn, that’s tempting… Now I know why Galahad has a lot of talented people…”

“D-Don’t you think it’s ridiculous to be tempted by milk?”

    “Nope, not at all.”

    Thud-!

As he said so, Lee Han put down his spoon. He had emptied his plate in under one minute. Although he seemed to have overeaten, since he savored each bite of his food, he was extremely satisfied.

“Would you like some more, Sir?”

“That’s a tempting offer, but I have to refuse. Something so tasty has to be eaten in moderation. If I eat too much of it, I’ll get sick of it.”

“Hehehe, then I’ll bring you a cup of warm black tea.”

The lady left like that. Lee Han praised how meticulous she was in his mind.

“What a kind and diligent kid. Seriously, no one would’ve thought that you guys are siblings if they weren’t told.”

    “…”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“…That vicious thing never treated me that well. Tsk.”

    “??”

The Spear Guy looked somewhat displeased with the female knight’s actions, and Lee Han could only shrug his shoulders, wondering why he was acting like that towards the poor kid.

He has such a nice younger sister, and yet he’s acting like this?

    What a fucker.

    Lee Han found him weird.

Well, it’s only natural, I guess.

Someone who has such a murderous spirit wouldn’t not grow so twisted.

He turned his gaze to the blondie who had collapsed while foaming from the mouth.

The blondie’s face was filled with fear, it was as if he had been tormented to the point that he almost died.

Although, Lee Han didn’t really care whether the magic freak had a near-death experience or lost a limb. What he cared about was the ‘Skill’ that the Spear Guy had just shown.

He sent killing intent to his target and used that to hurt them? At the same time, he made sure that the sensation was close to reality…

Using killing intent to show others ‘the illusion of their own death’.

    Something like that is possible?

No matter how strong someone’s killing intent was, it was hard to believe that it could be used as a means of attack like that.

Unless that someone was in the ‘heart-killing realm’ that often appeared in martial arts novels, that was.

Hmm, is that something he’s born with?

Such a magnificent killing intent and spirit.

This wasn’t not something someone could gain just by going from battlefield to battlefield.

Hence why Lee Han thought that this was something innate, like mystic power.

    So to speak…

Is this guy the Killer Star or what?

Killer Star, the hero who was born under the 36 Heavenly Spirit.

However, Lee Han still had some doubts…

    …Am I still tired?

But he soon snickered, thinking that it was a foolish thought.

This world is a rofan, there’s no way they’d insert martial arts elements in it.

There’s just no way, nope, nope.

Lee Han shook his head, dismissing it as him overthinking things.

It’s dumb that I thought it that way in the first place.

Once again, he dismissed it as a foolish thought.

    **** * ****

    “Are you done playing?”

    “Yeah, I’m done.”

    “…”

    “What’s wrong?”

“…I really shouldn’t expect a normal conversation with you.”

“Stop picking a fight with me. So, are you done reading my notebook?”

    “…”

“What? Do you think you won’t get caught as long as you read it secretly?”

    “Hmm…”

Seeing the Spear Guy’s slightly bewildered reaction, Lee Han was a little surprised.

In any case, he knew this would happen.

Why did the Spear Guy bring him to Galahad’s establishment?

Because he wanted to become close to him? Of course not.

    Instead, he…

He probably wanted to get the information I have.

    Unfortunately for him…

“…There’s a lot of stuff you don’t understand, huh?”

    “Shameless guy.”

“…I should deliver milk to your house every week.”

“…Why are you so obsessed with that?”

He probably didn’t understand much of what was written in his notebook. After all, Lee Han had written things in a way that others wouldn’t understand. Of course, he didn’t use Hangul or Latin Alphabet. He didn’t want to be mistaken for a linguistic genius, after all.

Instead, he just wrote it in a simple code system that he learned in the military and mixed it with Morse Code. Morse Code existed in this world, but the guy still wouldn’t understand it anyway, because…

“What does ‘Salmon swimming against the current of the river’ mean?”

    “It’s a song.”

    “A song?”

    “Yup.”

“What does ‘Salary, oh Salary’ mean?”

    “It’s a poem.”

“…Your writing doesn’t match your appearance.”

    “What’s wrong with my appearance?”

    “…”

    “Hey, answer me!”

If in his previous life he was born in a wealthy family, he’d have been a man of letters instead of a soldier; a youth who made a living with his literary skills, a youth with a sensibility of a rich person.

    1. 1. It’s a reference to Water Margin/Outlaw of the Marsh. 108 Heroes, the main characters of the novel are the reincarnation of the 108 Demonic Generals that was banished by Shangdi, the ancient Chinese’s Supreme God. the 108 Demonic Generals are classified into two: 36 Heavenly Spirits and 72 Earthly Fiends. The classification is just a reference to Daoism’s belief that Ursa Major has 36 heavenly stars and 72 earthly stars though, so it isn’t really anything significant. But, the 36 people did have more role in the novel. The Killer Star, Li Kui, is one of the characters of the novel.
