Chapter 16 : Meteor is not a fire magic

It wasn’t until four full days had passed that I was able to get out of bed.

Amiter, that b*tch, despite being much more injured than me, shook it off and checked out of the hospital in just two days.

I couldn’t forget the look on her face as she left the ward.

She was definitely pretending not to be happy, that little s*it.

I had to stay in bed for two more days than her before I could leave.

It was clear that bones healing completely in just four days was incomparable to modern medical technology.

Hooray for divine power. I wish I could have lived peacefully and become a priest.

Only kind-hearted people with fair and just minds can become priests, so it would have been a perfect fit for me.

    I firmly believe that.

Four days passed in an instant.

It was okay to skip all the boring general education classes, but it was a shame that I couldn’t attend other classes.

It had already been two weeks since I came to the academy, but there were still countless classes I hadn’t been able to attend.

    Today was Friday.

Surprisingly, this world also used a seven-day week system.

Besides the seven-day week system, there were many other similarities, but I decided that the author who possessed me lacked the ability to come up with more and stopped thinking about it.

Friday was a day without classes, instead it was a day for self-directed learning to make up for what you lacked.

In reality, it was free time, so most people rested or did odd jobs, but I was heading to the library.

    “…Ah.”

I heard someone’s annoyed voice from afar.

The owner of that familiar voice was Amiter.

We had spent at least two days together in the hospital, so we became acquaintances who greeted each other when we met.

    “Hello, b*tch.”

We were such close friends that we greeted each other when we ran into each other on the street.

I didn’t know, but hadn’t she recognized me first with her beastman senses?

“What do you want? You bi*ch.”

“Such harsh words. What’s wrong with calling a dog a b*tch?”

“What’s wrong with me calling a bich a bich?”

This b*stard wasn’t going to lose a single word.

She wasn’t a loud person, but she wasn’t exactly taciturn either.

And her language was very rough. How disappointing, really.

    “Where are you going?”

Still, it was fortunate to have a friend I could talk to comfortably.

I always tried to maintain my dignity and act aloof, but I felt comfortable in front of Amiter.

I matched her pace and walked along the road with her.

Well, not exactly side by side.

That kid was very tall, so she unintentionally made the people she walked with feel inferior.

    “Why do you care?”

“There she goes again, that b*tch, acting all high and mighty.”

“…I’m going to do some odd jobs. I’m not as rich as you guys.”

Amiter looked at me with a fed-up expression.

Her tone was softer than before.

Unlike in the past when she called me a noble, her tone had changed a bit.

The reason must be that I stepped on her, right? I had made it clear who was on top.

As expected, people and dogs only come to their senses when they get hit.

    “I’m not rich either.”

That’s not something someone who spent 30 billion Renes on a single s*ave should say.

Thanks to that, I also had to live as a pauper for the time being.

Thinking about the money I lost suddenly made my stomach ache.

    “You’re talking nonsense.”

    No, I’m serious.

She dismissed it as nonsense, but I was so short on money that I had to earn a living.

There was no way my family would have expected me to spend 30 billion Renes on a s*ave at once.

That was supposed to be my living expenses for half a year.

As we walked at a moderately slow pace, Amiter opened her mouth.

“I’m attracting attention because I’m with you.”

As we walked and talked, I noticed that the number of eyes on us had increased.

The duel between me and her must have spread as a rumor.

    I also hated attracting attention.

    “I’ll go first.”

“You wimp. I’ve arrived anyway. Get lost.”

    “…Okay.”

Amiter glanced at me and went her way.

I frowned and mumbled something, but I waved at her.

That was how I maintained my relationship with her.

    ‘The library.’

I walked a little further after sending Amiter away.

It wasn’t that I couldn’t find the library, but the building was so big that I had to find the entrance.

There were schools all over this world, but Morado Academy was the only place called an academy that specialized in training skilled people.

As such, it was a place where diverse and specialized knowledge came in, and the library, which collected the essence of that knowledge, was different from ordinary libraries.

    “Oh.”

When I opened the door and went inside, even I couldn’t help but open my mouth at the grand atmosphere.

The library was bigger and wider than any building I had ever been to.

The musty smell of paper coming from the huge bookshelves and the books packed inside.

The lively and noisy atmosphere for a library.

The blue artificial spirits floating in the sky.

The dark brown wooden bookshelves formed a huge forest even in death.

    ‘Better than I expected?’

The sanctuary and tomb of books was larger and more magnificent than I had imagined.

It was hard to believe that less than 10,000 people used this place.

    ‘What’s that place?’

There was a place where mana was particularly strong.

It was written that it was a place to store magic books, but unfortunately, it was locked and prohibited for ordinary students to enter.

Among the many sealing magic that prohibited entry, I didn’t recognize two of them.

“Is this your first time here?”

The owner of the voice that appeared without a sound was an artificial spirit that guided the library.

Fortunately, it didn’t show any strange reactions to me, perhaps because it wasn’t a normal spirit.

“I’m looking for books on magic related to defensive techniques.”

    “Then go to bookshelf 5-C.”

The round blue artificial spirit finished speaking and flew away.

I wanted to stroke it once, but it was a little disappointing.

It was the first spirit that didn’t reject me.

    “5-C, huh.”

Perhaps because it was a frequently used defensive magic, the way to the bookshelf was quite far despite its small number.

I had no idea how many books there were.

I probably wouldn’t be able to read even half of them, let alone half of half, even if I read until I died.

It seemed like all the books that existed in this world had been moved here.

Then, the noisy sound that had only been heard from afar was heard nearby.

It was the voices of a man and a woman arguing.

“No, I’m telling you, I’m right?”

“Well, what you’re saying is now…!”

    “Then refute what I’m saying?”

I learned that the library was a place to be quiet.

Maybe my common sense was wrong.

Curiosity led me to the sound to see what was going on.

Several people were surrounding a large desk.

There were many more people in fancy clothes than in regular school uniforms.

It seemed like they were outsiders with admission privileges.

The people in school uniforms were all 4th graders, the last year.

As I showed interest and peeked out, the red-haired woman who had been angry saw me.

    “Hey! What’s going on there?”

“Ah, I’m sorry. I was curious about what you were doing here.”

I was indirectly telling them to shut up because it was noisy, but the red-haired woman seemed to have taken my words at face value.

Unlike earlier when she looked angry, she smiled and gestured for me to come over.

    “We’re having a discussion!”

    “A discussion?”

“Yeah, it’s a meeting where we discuss useless topics every Friday. Are you interested?”

The woman was wearing a red cloak like a witch in a story, and she was also wearing a wide-brimmed hat.

Her voice was very friendly, unlike when she was shouting earlier.

I thought I might be a little interested, so I trudged over to her.

    “A discussion?”

“Yeah, are you a mage too?”

When I nodded, she forcibly sat me down right next to her.

It didn’t seem like she had any ulterior motives, and I wasn’t short on time, so I didn’t resist.

But, is it okay to suddenly include an outsider like me?

As soon as I thought that, the woman shouted to the others.

“Is it okay if this little kid joins us?”

“It’s okay to listen, but you have to show your qualifications to participate.”

A person in a black coat spoke in a sinister voice that matched his appearance.

Qualifications meant having a certain level of magical knowledge or skill.

Instead of opening my mouth, I pulled out a few strands of mana from my hand.

The mana strands that came out of my palm twisted together and embroidered the air.

    “Impressive for your age.”

When he gave his permission, the other people sitting at the table also readily agreed.

Perhaps because it was a free meeting, they were very cool.

I asked the red-haired woman next to me who had called me over.

    “If it’s a discussion, what’s the topic?”

“To be exact, it’s not a discussion, but a free talk on the topic. This topic is ‘What attribute or school of magic is Meteor?’”

    What attribute is Meteor?

It was a really useless agenda.

    “Interesting.”

    “Right?”

And most humans were a species that had great interest in questions that had no nutritional value.
