Chapter 15: Interview (=Chaos)
by AfuhfuihgsInterview (=Chaos)
On the day of Team Execution’s interview.
Five applicants gathered in one space.
The interviewers were me and Fria.
Originally, I planned to conduct it alone, but there was an order from the Association President to have at least one more person present.
-You’re like a bulldozer, so you need at least one brake.
Me, a bulldozer?
How rational am I in making judgments and pushing things forward.
“Fria-ssi. Do you have interview criteria?”
“I’ll leave everything to you, Tia-ssi.”
Association President, there seems to be no brake.
“I’ll select people who fit the team. Even if someone is excellent, if I judge they don’t fit the team, I’ll reject them immediately.”
“What are your criteria for fitting in?”
There’s only one criterion for fitting our team.
“I don’t recruit heroes.”
At my words, Fria showed an expression of not understanding.
In a way, what I do isn’t much different from a hero, so I understand why she makes such an expression.
But I’m different from a hero.
“Please tell the applicants to come in.”
All the applicants’ abilities fit the team.
Objectively, they all pass the criteria.
What we need to find out in the interview is the person’s thoughts.
‘Three men, two women.’
There are elves and dwarves, and ages range from high school students to middle-aged men.
‘No one overlaps.’
The diversity is good for missions.
If I could accept them all.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Tia, the interviewer.”
To be honest, I don’t know how to conduct interviews.
I mostly worked alone, and even when working in a team, I joined teams predetermined by the association.
So I’ll go straight to pressure questions.
“Starting with applicant 1, please tell me why you applied to this company. Lies are not accepted. Whether it’s money or honor, only speak the truth.”
Applicant 1. Kang Hyun-sik.
38-year-old male. Dwarf.
No combat experience.
Has work experience in a construction company.
Ability: Reinforcement.
Increases the strength of structures.
Likely still doesn’t fully understand his ability.
High potential for development.
Not a returnee, but there are cases where race changes when awakening. That’s his case.
“When my wife became pregnant with our second child, the company salary wasn’t enough. So I applied to various places.”
“I understand. Next, applicant 2.”
Applicant 2. Park Kang-hyun
24-year-old male. Human.
A hunter who has worked up to B-grade in a large guild, Unsan.
He didn’t leave due to problems, but given his ability structure, continuing as a hunter would be difficult.
Ability: Dueling Arena.
Takes a target to a dueling arena.
In the dueling arena, Park Kang-hyun receives buffs while the opponent receives debuffs.
The number of targets he can bring can be directly specified.
One-on-one is possible up to B-grade, but from A-grade, at least 2 people are needed.
In the end, he gave up the path of a hunter and applied here.
“I think this job suits me well. I can reduce collateral damage and subdue opponents with certainty.
And I already have abundant combat experience. Enough to be deployed immediately to the field.”
“I understand. Applicant 3.”
“What? Is that all?”
“Right now is the time for each person to state their reason.”
He seems too confident, almost too strong.
Such people are very difficult to manage.
‘Deduction.’
Applicant 3. Min Na-yoon
20-year-old female. Human
No experience.
Ability: Head Hunting.
The more information obtained about a target, the more accurately their location can be determined.
It’s hard to find a better ability for pursuit.
“I… I’ve wanted to be a police officer since—”
“That’s a lie. You’re rejected. Please leave.”
“I’m sorry! Please give me one more chance.”
“Leave.”
-Tap tap
“Tia-ssi. An ability like that is hard to find. Maybe you should reconsider.”
“I really hate lies. And we’re not the police.”
A weak heart can be fixed, but lies are very difficult to correct.
After emphasizing it so much before starting, if she lied, that’s it.
Applicant 3 showed tears and left the interview room.
‘What did you do well to cry about?’
You might think this statement is too harsh. But it’s not like I asked for much.
There was someone who said they applied everywhere to earn more money, so why talk about being a police officer when it’s not even true?
“Next, applicant 4.”
Applicant 4. 62 (Six-Two)
37 years old. Female-type android.
No past information can be found.
The most recent record is participating as a war mercenary 10 years ago.
Rarely communicates with people, mostly acts alone.
Mission success rate 95%
Ability: Artificial Spirit.
Controls a highly advanced artificial spirit capable of various auxiliary functions and equipment operation.
Being an artificial spirit has the advantage of not being restricted by attributes, but the disadvantage is that evolution is not easy.
However, perhaps because she’s an android, it’s closer to a highly advanced AI than an artificial spirit, so it’s progressing rather than evolving, they say.
“I just need money.”
“I understand. Last applicant.”
Last applicant. Lee Yong-soo.
18-year-old male. Human.
First in class at Seoul Hunter High School, 2nd year.
Ability: Trial.
Ability strengthens each time adversity is overcome.
“I want to become a hero like Tia-nim.”
“Rejected. We don’t need heroes.”
Bang-
The 5th interviewee, for some reason enraged by my words, stood up as if about to break the chair.
“What do you mean? No need for heroes!”
“Hmm. I’ll take this opportunity to tell everyone before you leave.”
Hero
A person who is revered by the masses for accomplishing what ordinary people cannot through extraordinary courage, talent, and wisdom.
“I am not a hero. Nor am I a police officer. I’ve merely come to solve Korea’s crime problems.
I started broadcasting only because the government dislikes me, so it was just a way to gain influence through other means.”
How convenient it would have been if the government had done as I said.
Then, without needing to form a team, I could have handled most things alone.
“And the word ‘hero’ is not to be used carelessly.”
Those who admire heroes have always appeared, and their end has always been the same.
“Heroes always meet miserable ends. Whether it’s the villain or the citizens, they never see a happy ending.”
“But! Without heroes, many people suffer!”
“Is that really so?”
A hero is truly a pitiful existence.
They appear to help people, but their very existence creates villains.
“People who rebel against heroes with convictions always appear. Do you think you can subdue all villains?”
“My skill makes me stronger. If I keep fighting, I’ll be the one to win.”
“People can be harmed each time. Because of your desire to be a hero.”
Sigh.
Where do these hero-wannabes keep springing from?
Well, I expected this when I picked him.
“To begin with, heroes adhere to a no-killing policy. That doesn’t match with us, who are allowed to execute.”
“But! With Tia-nim’s authority and decisiveness, you could surely save many people. If I could participate in that work!”
“Denied. Adversity is not needed to catch criminals. Originally, I was going to be that adversity, but with that mindset, it seems impossible.”
When eliminating criminals, the principle is to achieve maximum efficiency with minimal damage.
There should not exist a story of struggling to defeat a villain and becoming stronger.
“Why. With such power…”
“It’s precisely because I have power that I can’t die recklessly.”
If I had died by mistake and couldn’t catch Death, I can’t even imagine how many people he would have killed.
“Tia-ssi. I’m disappointed.”
“I’ve never done anything to disappoint you.”
“You were my hero. But not anymore.”
Heavy air filled the space where the interview was taking place.
Amidst everyone holding their breath during the interview, the 5th interviewee kicked the door and left.
‘I didn’t expect two people to be rejected with just one question.’
Hmm. Can this even be called an interview?
Originally, you’re supposed to inform them of rejection later, right?
… Is it because I’m doing the evaluation alone?
“Fria-ssi. What should we do?”
“… You’re going to reject applicant 2 as well, right?”
“As expected of the Korean branch head.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
I didn’t like applicant 2 even before he spoke.
He sneered when applicant 1 stated his reason, and he was full of confidence that he would be selected.
Does he think he’s premium personnel?
“Applicant 2 is rejected.”
“What’s the reason! You’re selecting a dwarf with no experience and a war mercenary, but why not me, who has worked as a hunter!”
“If we were selecting people based on experience, the people here would not have been chosen from the documents. And for team activities, we don’t need someone who belittles and mocks others.”
Applicant 2, who couldn’t regain his senses after being hit with facts.
If he understood, I wish he’d leave quickly.
“Ha. Let’s see if you can catch criminals with those people!”
Applicant 2, saying his piece before leaving.
Does he know?
That even Fran, who had no experience, has now become a sufficient fighting force.
“Fria-ssi. You saw well, right? I’ll leave the next interview to you.”
“… Understood.”
“You two can start work from next week.”
“Thank you!”
“…”
Why is applicant 4… Six-Two looking at me like that?
Is there something on my face?
