    Chapter 15: At the Academy

    At the Academy

I hurried to the dorm where Flare would be.

The path was already a living hell.

A student staggering with an injured leg.

A student barely managing to walk, supported by a friend.

A student whose face was blue, perhaps from being rained on too much.

    All of them were first-years.

‘If only they were at least second-years…’

I cursed the disgustingly large academy grounds.

Because of the weather, the other grades probably still didn’t know what was happening at the first-year dorms.

    ‘Every hand is needed!’

Some severely injured students were dangling arms or legs, constantly facing the direction I came from, the faculty building.

A relatively unharmed man and woman found me and grabbed me.

    “Don’t go that way! There’s a monster!”

“Go to the faculty building! Don’t go near the first-year dorms!”

Let go! I have to get Flare!

    “My sister is there!”

I shook off the man’s arm and prepared to run.

“Damn it! Do what you want!”

“Wait! Dex?! This guy is going to die!”

    The woman blocked my path.

“Get out of my way if you have nothing to say!”

I threatened them with the scabbard, and the woman and man hesitated.

“Then hurry! A demon with big horns appeared―”

“I don’t know! You said your family is there! I went in to save you and came out!”

    ‘Big horns, you say?’

The man grabbed the woman’s arm and ran again.

“Jane! Let’s go quickly! We don’t know when it will come!”

    I ran towards the dorm.

Has that thing already appeared before Flare?!

‘Damn it! What kind of thing is the boss going to be!’

    Aaaaaah!!

    Avoid it!! What is that?!

    Run away! It’s a monster!

    Save me! Mommyyy! Save me!!

The screams pierced through the heavy rain and reached even here.

I threw away the umbrella I was carrying and pulled out a long sword from my waist and ran.

More and more students were running in the opposite direction, as if trying to get away from the dorm.

As I got closer to the sound, the inheritance passive infused my body with strength, and I stretched out.

    A scene of utter chaos.

Some of the students were already corpses, being toyed with and constantly stabbed by imps.

    ‘Those things, less than insects!’

The blood being washed away by the rain couldn’t be diluted and turned as red as the sky.

    Thwack!

    Thwack! Thwack!

Some of the surviving students found me holding a sword and screamed.

    “Save me!”

    “There’s a monster over there!”

    “Aaaah! Let go!”

    “Run away!!”

    “Die! Die!”

    “Aaaaaaah!”

The students’ voices were clearly audible even amidst the thunder and lightning.

Some resisted, but most were either terrified and busy running away, or unlucky enough to be hit by an imp’s blade and dying.

Hati’s face reflected in a puddle looked back at me.

    ‘…I can’t just leave.’

I am different from that trash Scarl.

‘Luna and Flare like me, who is different from that trash Scarl…’

    Who taught me that.

I believe Flare can hold on for a little while.

‘…The big horns must be the mid-boss, Balrog.’

I didn’t raise her to lose to just such a guy.

If I spend just one minute on them, I can save most of them.

    Squeak!

    Squeak! Squeak!

    Squeeeeeak!

I rushed at the imps dancing in front of dying people.

I swung the Lion sword and cut off the necks of the gleefully laughing little devils.

    Squeak?!

    Squeeeeak!!

Only after two died did the surrounding imps notice me holding a sword and pounced.

    “Come on quickly! You bastards!”

Even if I killed them indiscriminately, the imps kept appearing endlessly.

Nothing was going as planned today.

‘One minute has already passed and gone.’

Everyone was looking at me, begging for help and just screaming.

If the couple I met earlier had gone quickly, they would be at the academy faculty building or with the capital guards by now…

I shook off the temptation to abandon them due to my anxiousness.

‘If I do that, it will be too late! Everyone will die!’

Either outside the academy or here, it’s the same anyway.

No one will come to help in this urgent situation.

I have to do everything I can in the situation before me.

‘Save the students, and save Flare! It’s what I’ve always done in games, isn’t it?! What’s so difficult about it!’

    I can do it.

Isn’t this why I prepared the equipment?

‘It’s a more fucked up situation than I thought!’

    I gritted my teeth.

    “Third Moon!”

I slaughtered all the imps rushing at me with the inheritance passive and skill.

    “Thank you!”

    “Thank you! Thank you!”

    “Now help us―”

Before they could finish speaking, I cursed and ran towards the dorm.

    “Get lost on your own!!”

The Lion sword lived up to its name.

It didn’t dull in the rain, and the imp’s blood didn’t stick to it, so the blade remained sharp.

‘I’m glad that at least you are performing as expected!’

    “Do you know Flare?!”

“I don’t know! A student with light shining from her body saved us from the demons!!”

I grabbed a passing student and heard the words I wanted to hear.

    ‘She’s still okay!’

The number of imps increased as I got closer to the dorm.

I ran without rest, and to save even one more person, I shoved the sword into the imps’ mouths.

A swarm of imps attacked as if they wouldn’t lose.

    “Uryaaaaaaaa!!”

    Small sword wounds heal quickly.

Rather, the blood I shed little by little cooled the excitement and cleared my mind.

As most of the swarm was slaughtered in an instant, some of the remaining ones ran away.

    Squeeee!

    Squeak! Squeeee!!

    Squeeee!!

Ignoring the fleeing imps, I entered the first-year girls’ dorm.

The rain stopped instantly, and the interior, where all the magic lamps were out, was as dark as night.

It was the first time I had ever entered the girls’ dorm, but thanks to [Regret and Obsessive Hero], I knew the structure so well that I could walk around with my eyes closed.

‘I have to meet Flare first…!’

As soon as I thought that, the voices of imps, the chilling sound of daggers, and the screams of living students echoed from somewhere.

    Squeak-squeak-squeak-

    Squeak? Squeak- Squeak-

    Squeak! Squeak! Squeak-!!

    “Aaaah!”

    “Save me! Someone save me!”

    “Mommy!! Mommy!!”

Every time lightning struck, I blew away the heads of the imps that came into view.

Then, a student’s hand grabbed my ankle.

    “Please! Save me first!”

    “Run out yourself!”

    “I can’t. I can’t do it! I can’t! Save me!”

I couldn’t shake off the clinging leg and allowed a knife attack.

    Thwack!!

I was distracted by the student and couldn’t react to the imp’s surprise attack from behind.

    Squeak! Squeak-squeak! Squeak!!

    Squeak!!! Squeak!

    Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

Squeak! Squeak! Squeak! Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

The guys were laughing happily, and the terrible voices of the surrounding imps, drawn by the smell of new blood, were getting closer and closer.

I kicked away the student who was getting in the way with annoyance.

    “Aaaah!!”

When the lightning struck again, I saw the disgusting faces of what looked like more than 20 little devils.

The demons were cackling, surrounding me as if to encircle me.

    ‘Damn imp bastards!’

At the same time as the flash, the guys pounced, and I swung the Lion sword greatly to cut down as many as possible, but I couldn’t block all the small swords stabbing in from all directions.

‘Two in the back, one in the left arm.’

    “Tuh!”

I spat out the blood coming up into my mouth and swung the sword again, sending three imps who had stabbed me to the next world in an instant.

“It hurts. It hurts so much! I hit the wall and broke my leg bone, so I can’t run away. Aaaah!”

‘I barely saved her, and she’s whining!’

I hesitated to go help her.

A demon with huge horns was glaring at me from the second floor.

    Eyes of sulfur fire.

A demon of strength with a huge sword of fire.

    Was there another one?

Balrog, letting out a huge howl in human language, fell below.

    Kuhheoooooooong!!!

    Bang―!!!

“I can’t stop that alone! Everyone run to the faculty building!”

The students, seeing the huge Balrog in front of them, somehow got up and ran away.

Even the student who was kicked by me and had a dangling leg started running like crazy.

The guy looked at the other students following my gaze.

    The sacrifices are running away!!

Before he could swing the huge sword at the other students, I pounced first.

    “Uaaaaaaa―!”

The sword of fire bent towards me as if it was a trick.

    Die― Hero!!

    ‘Quick decision.’

    Flowing like water.

The skill of the inheritance passive that cuts three times at the same time.

    “Third Moon!”

    Clang! Clang! Slice―!

To think he blocked two of the three consecutive strikes in the meantime, he is indeed a demon of battle.

Hoo- To destroy the weapons of hell. Hup―!

The wound on his neck began to heal as the shout was frightening.

The broken sword of fire burned even more brightly.

In the light of the sword, Balrog’s muscle tendons twitched as if they would burst, and I could see his feet digging into the floor he was standing on.

‘Is it already the next phase?’

    Not bad. Hero.

The flames of the sword of fire surged and flew towards my face.

I took a defensive stance to block it.

Something shining brightly jumped down from the second floor and blocked my path.

    “Haaa!”

With a familiar voice, Balrog’s sword didn’t reach me.

    Clang!

“Did you cowardly run away while fighting me? Monster!”

Perhaps because of the wounds inflicted by Balrog, her clothes were stained with blood, and the sword she was holding was broken by the block just now.

But the girl was emitting a sacred light from her body, making it clear to anyone who saw her that she was the protagonist of the world.

    “Flare!”

    “Senior Hati?!”

‘Thanks to you, I bought time to use a linked skill.’

    “Fourth Moon!”

Balrog’s unhealed wound split again in the shape of a cross.

    W, what is this―?!

    ‘If Flare showed me one!’

I rushed in to prevent him from doing anything foolish and cut off both of his wrists.

    Slice―!

    Uaaaaaaa―!!

Balrog’s hands fell to the floor.

‘I have to do one too!’

Before the sword of fire fell to the ground, I cut off his neck.

‘Wouldn’t I be worthy of being called senior?!’

    “Die. Balrog.”

    Kkeuaaaaaak!!!!

The finishing touch was a large wound that divided Balrog’s head into four parts.

    Balrog’s corpse disappeared into ashes.

‘How can you win against item power and inheritance skills?’
