Chapter 143: The Slaughterhouse’s Main Source of Income
by fnovelpia
Episode 143
3:00 AM the next day.
Unlike usual, the area surrounding the potion factory in the southwest of the B17 district was pitch black.
Normally, the lights were kept on 24/7 to deter intruders, but today, not only the factory but even the streetlights around it were all turned off.
This was on the orders of Jason, the master of the Slaughterhouse Clan.
“Report the current situation again.”
A massive man standing on the roof of the factory spoke quietly into the microphone connected to his earpiece.
He was Jason, with a state-of-the-art prosthetic eye implanted in one of his eye sockets.
Reports from his subordinates started coming in through the earpiece speaker.
– Bombardment team, ready. All clear.
– Ambush team, no issues. All monsters are in position.
– Luring team, ready. No movement detected at the front yet.
“Report any enemy sightings immediately.”
– Yes, sir.
After hearing their responses, Jason scanned the area again.
All of Slaughterhouse’s forces were gathered here.
The “luring team,” tasked with drawing the enemy into their encirclement, was waiting at the front line. The “breeding team” was positioned in the alleys on either side of the factory, ready to launch a pincer attack with their pet monsters.
And the bombardment team was prepared to launch pre-loaded “Abyss Missiles” to inflict heavy damage on Boko Haram’s core forces right before the encirclement was complete.
‘I won’t let them get away with it this time!’
Jason gritted his teeth, anger surging within him as he recalled the previous night’s battle.
They had lost a total of 25 pet monsters in that battle, effectively losing more than half of Slaughterhouse’s fighting strength.
Instead of annihilating Boko Haram with their surprise attack, they had suffered the greatest loss in the history of the Slaughterhouse Clan.
‘I never imagined Boko Haram would have such a skilled individual…!’
The image of a man flying through the air, exploding the heads of his pet monsters, flashed through his mind.
‘I was careless. I should have deployed all my men, including myself, along with the monsters.’
If he and his men had all been deployed, they wouldn’t have ended up losing all their pet monsters.
‘I won’t be careless again!’
He vowed with burning eyes, filled with a thirst for revenge, then turned to his subordinate.
“Check the magic circles again.”
“Yes, Master.”
The subordinate in charge of the magic circles immediately went to check the devices.
If there were no problems, the “ally protection magic circle,” the “area nullification magic circle,” and various curse magic circles that inflicted status ailments would all activate simultaneously as soon as he gave the order.
With these magic circles in place, even the skilled individual he had seen yesterday wouldn’t be able to fight properly.
‘It’ll be impossible to overcome these magic circles. I spent a fortune to install them!’
Only those who operated within the inner districts of the B district possessed the skills to break through these powerful magic circles, which had cost him billions of Blanc.
There was no reason for someone of that caliber to be operating in the B district. He could guarantee that with his name on the line.
– Enemies sighted at the front!
The report from the luring team snapped him out of his thoughts, and he focused on the view ahead.
He saw several military trucks approaching from afar, making a lot of noise.
Jason smirked.
“They took the bait.”
They were clearly charging in with all their forces, just like yesterday.
It was exactly as Okolo, the spy he had planted, had informed him.
“Luring team, retreat immediately! Bombardment team, prepare to fire!”
At his order, his subordinates from the luring team started retreating towards the factory at full speed.
The trucks, chasing after them, reached right in front of the factory.
“Fire!”
Jason shouted.
Dozens of missiles shot up into the sky, heading towards the trucks.
**Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!**
The entire area in front of the factory was engulfed in explosions.
The trucks, unable to withstand the blasts, exploded one after another.
Seeing all of them burning, without exception, Jason
“Hahahaha…!”
burst into laughter.
“You fell for the same trick twice, you’re worse than monkeys!”
He shouted towards Dangote, who was undoubtedly inside one of the trucks.
“There will be no miracle like yesterday this time! Attack!”
“Waaaaaaa!”
At his command, the ambush team, hiding in the alleys on either side, charged out with a roar and rushed towards the trucks.
Jason also jumped down from the roof and joined the charge.
But,
“…What?”
He stopped in his tracks, his voice filled with confusion.
“There’s no one here?”
There wasn’t a single corpse around the burning trucks.
He even checked inside the trucks, but it was the same.
“…Could it be?”
A bad feeling crept into his mind.
It was then that,
“Master!!”
A man suddenly ran towards him, shouting urgently.
He was one of the clan members who had been on guard duty at the headquarters.
“It’s an emergency! The Boko Haram Clan is attacking Slaughterhouse No. 3 on the outskirts of the B17 district!”
“……!!”
Jason’s face turned pale.
* * *
Meanwhile,
the Boko Haram Clan had already taken control of Slaughterhouse No. 3.
“…Understood.”
Akuma, after hanging up the phone, shouted to the clan members gathered nearby,
“Gather all the enemy corpses in one place! And make sure to double-tap them, just in case!”
“Yes, sir!”
His subordinates started gathering the enemy corpses as instructed.
But there weren’t many corpses. Most of the troops had been deployed to defend the potion factory in the B17 district, leaving only a minimal security force here.
“Is the security detail in place?”
“Yes, Vice-Master.”
“Report any enemy sightings immediately. Understood?”
After confirming the security arrangements, Akuma turned and entered the slaughterhouse.
He walked towards the executives standing in the center and saluted Dangote.
“Master, we received a report that the enemies are gathered at the potion factory.”
“What about Jason?”
“He’s there too.”
Dangote chuckled.
“He fell for it perfectly. That pig must be fuming all day today, unable to control his anger. Hehehe…!”
“Hahaha…”
Akuma laughed along, then looked ahead and asked,
“Who are these people?”
He saw a large group of people kneeling in a corner, tied up.
Dangote replied,
“They were working at the slaughterhouse. We separated those with dissection licenses.”
“…Is there a reason why you kept them alive?”
“To work for me.”
Dangote smiled.
“We should run a slaughterhouse ourselves. Why should we keep paying exorbitant prices for potion ingredients, huh?”
He planned to make this slaughterhouse his own.
That’s why he had kept those with dissection licenses alive. Experts were essential for running a slaughterhouse.
“Take them to a separate location. And search for any hidden hunters or ability users and eliminate them.”
“Yes, sir. Everyone, get up!”
As Akuma led the tied-up people away, Dangote walked towards a corner of the factory.
“What are you doing?”
He asked Kim Jinsung, who was standing there, as he approached.
“…Ah.”
Dangote chuckled as he saw what Kim Jinsung was looking at.
“Is this your first time seeing human flesh?”
“Yes.”
Kim Jinsung nodded.
On the wall where he was standing, human arms and legs were hanging.
Below them was the corpse of a man who had been dissected, his chest cavity wide open, devoid of any internal organs.
“Organ trafficking is one of Slaughterhouse’s main sources of income.”
Dangote’s voice reached Kim Jinsung’s ears as he looked at the corpse.
“Not just Slaughterhouse, but all clans that run slaughterhouses deal with human corpses. The profits from potion ingredients obtained by dissecting monsters often aren’t enough to cover the operating costs.”
“……”
“Don’t worry, human flesh is used as feed for pet monsters, not for human consumption. You don’t have to worry about it being used in restaurants.”
“That’s a relief.”
“Of course, there are restaurants that specialize in human flesh. You can check them out if you’re curious.”
**Thud!**
“Ugh…!”
They both turned their heads at the sound of someone collapsing behind them.
“…Ah, right. There was one more person to deal with.”
Dangote turned and walked towards the sound.
He reached the person who had collapsed and said coldly to his subordinates,
“Lift his head.”
His subordinates forced the person to kneel and lifted his head by his hair.
It was Okolo,
the leader of Boko Haram’s Hunter Team 1. His face was bruised, and blood was trickling from his mouth.
Dangote looked at him coldly and spoke,
“I never imagined you, of all people, would betray me, Okolo.”
“No!”
Okolo immediately denied it.
“Why would I betray the master and become a spy? I’m Okolo! The loyal servant of the master, who has been with the Boko Haram Clan since its founding!”
“You’re not a spy? Then why was Jason waiting for us at the potion factory in the B17 district? Huh?”
“…T-that could have been leaked by other executives!”
Dangote turned to the other executives at Okolo’s desperate plea.
“Tell me one by one. Where did I say we were going to attack yesterday?”
Wishan and the other executives standing nearby started answering one by one.
“You said it was the weapon parts factory in the southeast of the B17 district.”
“You told me we were going to raid the Slaughterhouse headquarters…”
“You said we were going to reclaim the gambling den in the B18 district that we lost a few days ago…”
“I thought we were attacking the weapon warehouse in the south of the B17 district.”
Okolo’s face turned paler as he listened to their different answers.
“I told Akuma that we were going to attack this place, Slaughterhouse No. 3.”
Dangote glared at Okolo with burning eyes and continued,
“You were the only one out of the six executives who I told we were going to attack the potion factory, you traitor!”
“……!”
“Hey, go get one of the slaughterhouse workers.”
Dangote ordered one of his subordinates.
“And tell them to turn on all the machines. Let him see with his own eyes how well these slaughterhouse machines work.”
He gestured to the men holding Okolo.
They dragged Okolo towards the machines.
“I’m sorry! Master! Please spare me! I won’t do it again! Please, just once…! Master! Master!!”
Okolo pleaded desperately as he was dragged away, but Dangote didn’t even look at him.
