Chapter 116: S#19. Good Morning Creeps (4)
by fnovelpia
“Hop on the rocket. We’re launching you instead of a nuke.”
For a second, I thought I’d misheard.
But seeing the big truck loaded with a small rocket and launch pad, I realized I hadn’t.
“What the hell? You’re launching me…?”
“You’re humanity’s last hope. Slice that bastard with the plasma axe and stop the invasion.”
Everything around us was already in chaos.
Red worms and all sorts of monsters rampaging across the land.
Houses burning, people dying.
This alone was a horrific disaster, but the havoc wreaked by the Martian shark was on a whole other level.
It was cooling its overheated Gatling gun. Once cooled, it’d spray bullets again.
If we couldn’t stop it, humanity was toast.
“But there’s no way I can kill such a huge monster with just one axe.”
“You can do it, Summer. You’ve done it before, remember? You sliced open that saw shark’s belly and escaped in the Texas desert.”
“That was…”
“That day, did you think about how impossible it was when you jumped into the shark’s mouth?”
“…No.”
“Now’s not the time to think about what’s impossible. It’s time to prove what’s possible.”
He was right.
There was no time to hesitate.
I gripped the plasma axe and boarded the small rocket.
The only way to save myself, my loved ones, and all of humanity was to kill that shark.
The launch pad rose up, aiming at the Gatling gun great white in the sky.
The rocket’s nozzle spewed flames.
Whoosh- The rocket took off with a roar.
It felt like my insides were floating. The rocket carrying me soared towards the sky at breakneck speed.
The sight of the colossal great white with a Gatling gun in its mouth swimming through the atmosphere was both bizarre and dreamlike.
Up close, the Gatling gun was as big as a nuclear submarine. A monstrous 200 meters in size.
But then the Gatling gun started to move.
Bullets rained down towards the approaching rocket.
Dudududududududududu─────────────────!!!
They weren’t bullets, but shells. One hit and the rocket would explode.
I jumped with all my might inside the craft. The impact altered its flight path, and the bullets missed.
The Gatling gun sticking out of the shark’s mouth spun violently.
The rocket passed between the gun barrels and sharp teeth, entering the maw.
I sliced through the rocket with my axe and emerged.
The wind pressure pushed against my body. Ignoring it, I leapt out.
The rocket exploded with a bang near the uvula, and I fell onto the Gatling gun.
The massive gun was scorching hot from firing. It felt like iron heated in lava.
Feeling my body slowly cooking, I gripped the axe handle tight.
“Time to prove what’s possible…”
I lowered my stance.
I sprinted forward, scraping the axe blade along the ground with a sizzle.
The plasma axe’s cutting power was beyond imagination. The thick metal sliced like tofu.
I advanced, cutting through the Gatling gun. Blue sparks flew along my path.
From here, I needed to dive past the mouth into the throat and tear up the innards.
Big body, gotta have huge guts too. I’ll rip and kill it.
Just then, the Gatling gun moved. Apparently it could move like a tongue.
Since I was standing on the Gatling gun, it was like the ground beneath my feet was rising.
As the base lifted upwards, the roof of the mouth drew closer.
It was trying to squash me flat.
I was still far from reaching the throat. It was too late to escape out of the mouth.
I’d be crushed before that. Bile rose in my throat.
My body was caught between the palate and the Gatling gun.
I braced myself, taking a stance like Atlas holding up the earth. But it was an irresistible force no mere human could oppose.
The pressure slowly built. My neck and waist felt like they’d snap.
…I can’t die like this.
I hadn’t confessed my true feelings to Nancy and Ellen, to Zelda and Hyper.
They’d given me their sincerity. If I died here, I’d be mocking their genuine hearts.
I can’t let that happen. I must respond to their love.
I have to live.
Live and make my decision.
“Aaaaaarrrrggghhh…!!!!”
Roaring, I swung my axe at the palate crushing me. I tore through the thick flesh, puncturing the roof of the mouth.
I advanced upwards, ripping through flesh. Violently, like a crazed mole.
My target was the shark’s brain.
Big body, gotta have a huge brain too. I’ll rip and kill it.
I broke through the nasal cavity and passed the optic nerve. Using the axe like a flipper, I swam through muscle.
It was a space without a hint of light, but the faintly glowing plasma axe blade served as a light source.
Soon I came upon a thick yellowish wall. The skull.
I cut through it with the axe. Inside was a wrinkled sphere the size of a soccer field.
The shark’s brain.
Red worms were stuck all over its surface.
“…So you were being controlled too.”
Reiko’s controller. She said those worms controlled the creatures.
I hesitated for a moment.
If I destroyed the brain, the shark would die. If its corpse fell to Earth, it might cause countless casualties.
What if I just removed the worms without touching the brain? Maybe it’d regain its senses, stop the indiscriminate Gatling gun fire, and return to its home planet.
Holding onto hope, I approached the brain. I peeled off the leeches clinging to its surface.
After removing them all, the shark’s body moved dramatically.
It was turning its fins to return to Mars.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
I returned to the mouth through the hole I’d made in the palate.
I sprinted towards the densely packed teeth outside.
I had to escape before the shark entered space.
…Wait.
Come to think of it, I didn’t have a parachute.
But waiting meant certain death either way. There was no time to think about impossibilities.
All I could do was pray I’d land in water.
I threw myself out of the mouth.
I fell.
“Sir, the shark’s leaving!” said the driver, looking through binoculars.
The Gatling gun great white in the sky was turning its fins to depart Earth.
Frank nodded.
“As expected of Summer… Looks like he pulled it off.”
“Where to now, sir?”
“We’re going to the Pentagon.”
The driver was taken aback.
“The… The Pentagon? You mean the Department of Defense headquarters?”
“We need to see this through to the end.”
The lead tank advanced, crushing red worms underfoot.
When wet zombies staggered towards them, it fired its cannon, blasting them to bits.
It mowed down the meat people and vegetable people blocking the way with machine gun fire, turning them into minced meat and diced vegetables.
In the back seat of a transport vehicle following the tank sat the Strode mother and daughter, and the Hyper sisters.
Amidst the chaotic atmosphere, Nancy spoke up.
“Zelda… I didn’t get to ask earlier, but what did you mean by ‘date’ when you were talking to Summer?”
“Exactly what it sounds like. I confessed to Summer.”
“C-c-confessed?!”
“Yes.”
Nancy was dumbfounded. She thought her only rival was her mother.
It was the appearance of an unexpected powerful opponent.
Of course, Ellen was equally dismayed.
She thought she’d naturally become Summer’s wife after taking his first kiss.
First her daughter, and now the twins joining in too.
Just as she was about to angrily confront Zelda, the tank in front was crushed.
Kwang- The sound of metal bending and the engine exploding.
It was a tentacle that had smashed the tank.
The shadow of the octopus unicorn loomed large.
“No way… Didn’t it die when its head exploded…?!”
“There must’ve been another one…!”
Nancy and Ellen trembled in shock. The Hyper sisters were equally anxious.
Someone was sitting on the octopus unicorn’s back.
It was Reiko.
She should’ve been turned to mush by the special forces’ bullet shower.
Agent Frank furrowed his brow.
“Ishikawa. You weren’t dead after all…”
Reiko’s life force was tenacious.
She used the creatures to surround the vehicle.
Her eyes were smiling, but her gaze burned with anger.
“How dare you extras try to ruin my movie.”
The octopus unicorn’s tentacles ripped off the transport vehicle’s roof like opening a can.
Agent Frank ordered all his men:
“Shoot! I said shoot!!!”
Reiko gestured, and the octopus unicorn extended its tentacles in all directions, overturning all the other transport vehicles.
“Ambushes like that won’t work this time.”
A thin tentacle flew out. It pierced Agent Frank’s abdomen.
Frank let out an agonized scream as he was lifted into the air.
The tentacle impaling his stomach ripped out his spine.
Now rendered invertebrate, Frank was raised up and impaled on the unicorn’s horn.
Scattered fragments of intestines rained down on the four women’s faces.
The octopus unicorn snatched up Nancy, Ellen, Zelda, and Hilda one by one.
Reiko gave a bloody smile.
“This time I won’t let you go……”
That’s when it happened.
Something falling from the sky exploded Reiko and the octopus unicorn with a bang.
The intestine fragments on the women’s faces were washed away by different intestine fragments.
A faint voice brushed my ear.
I opened my eyes gently.
I was lying on something soft and squishy. It felt like being on a waterbed.
What is this… octopus fragments…?
The Strode mother and daughter and the Hyper sisters stood before me with worried expressions.
“Summer… you okay?” Ellen asked.
What on earth happened? I tried to piece together my memories.
After diving out of the Gatling gun shark’s mouth-
I remembered up to the part where I saw the landing point was land, not sea, and gave up hope.
But by chance, or fate, my falling body seemed to have landed on Reiko and the octopus unicorn.
“We were so worried…”
Ellen hugged me tightly, sobbing.
I silently embraced all four of them in turn, holding them close.
Feeling their vivid heartbeats through our touching skin, the reality of being alive sank in.
As I hugged Nancy, I spoke:
“It was a really long fall. Long enough to make a decision.”
“Decision? What do you mean, Summer?”
Just then, I sensed something behind me.
Thinking it might be a creature, I turned around, but it wasn’t.
“Cough…”
The sound of coughing.
It was Reiko’s disembodied head. The back of her skull was cracked open with brain fragments spilling out. She looked like a broken crystal ball.
The impact of my fall seemed to have severed her limbs.
When our eyes met, Reiko gave a twisted smile.
“Summer… Congratulations. You’ve spectacularly ruined the movie.”
“Yeah. Your finale was spectacularly ruined too. A fitting end for this insane movie.”
“What will you do now? A director must always exist in any reality.”
Blood seeped from Reiko’s mouth.
I stood up and went over to her.
“You’re no longer the director. You’re about to disappear.”
“Summer, think about it. If you remove me, who’ll become the director?”
“Don’t worry. There’s a suitable candidate.”
“Who?”
“Me.”
I can become the director myself.
A man can become a ‘W’ witch too, and my dad was a director after all.
“With me as the director, the genre’ll change too. This movie is no longer a horror.”
“Then what is it…?”
I turned to look at my four lovers.
I announced my decision in front of them.
“Harem.”
