Chapter 105: Result of the Auditions, Part 1

[BGG Company’s second Vtuber audition has successfully closed.]
–We will return to you soon, so please give us lots of support.

One day in January, amidst the New Year’s atmosphere.

A thank you message was posted on BGG Company’s Bluebird, stating that the recruitment of new members had ended and that they would return soon.

    However…

    –No,
    , it’s over?
–Wasn’t it supposed to be a public audition?

    .

Some fans, who naturally assumed it would be a public audition, were in shock.

They thought it would be a public audition since it was a new company, but there had been no news, so they wondered what was going on, only to find out that the auditions were already over.

–But I’m sure they did a good job.
–It’s their money if they fail.

Of course, this was the general sentiment among most Vtuber viewers.

Most people were optimistic, saying things like, “Scarlet was openly promoted as someone they picked and became popular, so what’s there to complain about? They’ll prepare well and come out when the time is right.”

–But I bet Lucy <- This girl will debut as a Vtuber at BGG. Definitely.
    -?
    -What the hell is this?
-No, I’m telling you, it’s real. Haru’s been drawing all the thumbnails recently, and they only picked two people in the audition.
-That’s because Haru’s main job is as an illustrator…
-She always draws if you pay her.
-No, I’m telling you, this is definitely it…

Among them, some people made surprisingly sharp observations… but their opinions were dismissed by the majority, who questioned the validity of those claims.

It was time to proceed with the contracts for Baek-seol and Jo A-yeong.

The best part was that they were both adults, so there was no need for parental accompaniment.

First, Baek-seol, who Hayoon met at the cafe…

    ‘Oh…?’

Hayoon had expected it to some extent, but she was definitely an extrovert, with her skillful makeup and unique positive energy.

No, would it be more accurate to say she looked like a delinquent?

She had the look of the kind of girl who would sit on the lap of the male delinquent in class…

“Excuse me for asking, but do you smoke…?”

“No way! My throat would be ruined, and I wouldn’t be able to perform.”

“Then, were you ever involved in school violence…”

“Of course not. I only went to school with two friends.”

“Lastly, just in case, do you have a boyfriend…?”

“Nope. If I had one, I wouldn’t be watching ASMR Vtubers. Ha, haha…”

Hearing her story, Hayoon understood why she was single despite her looks.

Her parents were conservative, so she attended all-girls schools. She wanted to try something new once she reached high school, where her scope of activities would broaden…

But there were so many things to consider, like entrance exams and the pandemic.

Even now, most university classes were still online.

“But, if you’re in university, what about your studies?”

“Ah, I’ll just take a leave of absence.”

    “Is there a reason…?”

“It doesn’t suit me? I went to the physics department because my grades were decent, but I really can’t stand scribbling weird formulas in university anymore.”

    “Ah…”

In the end, it meant that she wouldn’t have a boyfriend even if she went to university, and since the classes didn’t suit her, she just quit.

Rather than wasting time like this, she wanted to make easy money by becoming a Vtuber, a rising trend.

Thanks to Baek-seol’s honest confession, it became easier for Hayoon to make a judgment.

“So, you’re saying you’ll do anything as long as you can make money?”

“Absolutely. I applied because I want to make money. ASMR Vtuber seems to suit me quite well, since I listen to it and act it out myself.”

It suited her aptitude, and she could make money easily; there was no better job for Baek-seol.

“Yes, yes, that’s right. I’ll do almost anything you ask as long as I can make money.”

“Then, I personally want you to run an ASMR channel.”

    “An ASMR channel…?”

    “On YouTube.”

    “Aha…?”

“Of course, I’ll draw the thumbnails for free, but you’ll need to handle the script and simple editing yourself.”

Hayoon promised various forms of support so that her plan could become a reality.

“We’ll use this ASMR channel as a foundation and expand it to Vtuber broadcasting. The upload schedule will be once a week.”

“Hmm, I think I can handle that. Especially since you’re drawing the illustrations.”

    “In addition to that…”

    “Uh… is there more?”

“You’ll have to receive vocal training twice a week until December. Since Vtubers generally need to be able to sing…”

    “Aha…?”

Of course, Hayoon’s support was based on Baek-seol’s own efforts.

“We will cover the cost of vocal training, but it’s essential for a successful debut. The weekly ASMR channel upload and two vocal training sessions per week will be included in the contract.”

    “A-Are there any exceptions…?”

“Of course. We understand if you miss a session once a month due to menstruation or illness. However, if you exceed the allowed number of absences and accumulate five or more by December, there will be a penalty.”

Baek-seol gasped at the mention of a penalty, but Hayoon reassured her that it was nothing to worry about.

“Well, when I say accumulate five or more, as long as you don’t miss more than seventeen sessions using illness as an excuse, there won’t be any penalties. It’s not that hard, is it? Not missing more than seventeen sessions until December?”

    “Th-That seems reasonable…”

Baek-seol mumbled uncertainly, but at this point, she had no choice.

She desired to make easy money as a Vtuber, and that desire could be fulfilled if she just stamped the contract a few times. How many people would say “That’s a bit much…” at this stage, kick their chair back, and leave?

“Okay, I understand. Let’s do the contract.”

In the end, Baek-seol stamped the contract prepared by Hayoon and Do Jin-ho, took half of it, and left.

“Then, you keep the other copy of the contract.”

    “Okay.”

    “Next is Ms. I.”

    “It’s A-yeong… Say her name properly…”

    “Ah, I’m just kidding.”

Now it was Jo A-yeong’s turn.

Hayoon had scheduled the interviews with some time in between, so it was almost time for her to arrive.

    “Hello.”

    “Oh, yes, hello…!”

    “Ah, greetings!”

    Jo A-yeong arrived.

The I-cup wasn’t a lie; she sat down wearing an incredibly tight t-shirt. Do Jin-ho, facing an I-cup woman, something he’d rarely seen in his life, became incredibly stiff.

“Shall we start with the contract?”

Hayoon took the lead in the contract discussion, speaking for Do Jin-ho.

“This might be a rude question, but do you have a boyfriend…?”

    “I don’t have a boyfriend.”

“Then, what are your thoughts on studio life? We’re planning to rent a three-bedroom villa and install four soundproof booths, one in a bedroom and three in the living room.”

“So, one of those booths will be mine?”

“Yes, you’ll probably use one of the booths in the living room.”

“You said it’s a three-bedroom villa, what about the other room?”

“That will be my workspace and the other illustrator’s.”

    “Aha.”

Jo A-yeong was quite quick to understand.

She didn’t particularly object to anything, and there were no significant disqualifying factors.

Except for being a bit older than the other BGG Company members, being born in 1999, she was a perfect candidate with no apparent flaws, and quickly stamped the contract.

“This is a personal question, but what is your reason for wanting to become a Vtuber?”

“Hmm, well, I’m a pretty good singer, and Vtubers often interact with other female streamers, right? I tend to lead conversations when I’m with my friends, so I thought I could do it.”

“You thought you could do it…”

Jo A-yeong’s singing during the audition was definitely above average.

However, while it was above average, it was questionable whether it was captivating enough for a Vtuber…

“You are aware that your motivation, as well as your appeal, are a bit lacking, right?”

    “Ahaha…”

Frankly, excluding her I-cup, a semi-cam cheat key, there were so many below-average applicants that she was only chosen because she was slightly above average.

“I’ll connect you with a vocal trainer, so you’ll have to work really hard. You’ll also have to run a Utaite channel starting in July, and you’ll debut with an original song in December.”

    “I’ll work hard. Don’t worry.”

Still, she had a certain affable charm, so Hayoon thought she would have a definite audience.

It seemed they had covered all the important points, so…

    “Um, your chest…”

    “Yes? This?”

“Is it real? You haven’t had any surgery…?”

    Hayoon whispered her burning question.

“Want to see it in the bathroom?”

    “…?”

A completely unexpected answer came back.

This woman was more daring than Hayoon thought.
