Ch.9494. The Sin of Sloth

    “Sonia is my daughter.”

    Splash.

Orange juice flowed like a waterfall from Amon’s mouth without resistance.

    Who is whose daughter?

Amon looked back and forth between the Mother Superior and Sonia.

The only things the two had in common were that they were female and had large breasts.

As Amon alternated between looking at them, he noticed something strange.

    ‘Huh?’

Come to think of it, the Mother Superior also had a large chest and was quite shapely for her age.

Going further back in time, Amon remembered that when the Mother Superior had picked him up and Sonia subsequently entered the orphanage, the Mother Superior had rapidly lost weight.

‘I can’t remember exactly, but I feel like that’s what happened.’

At the very least, when he first saw the Mother Superior, she had been more full-figured than she was now.

One might wonder how he could have missed noticing her pregnancy, but with the loose-fitting nun’s habit, it was entirely possible.

‘The Mother Superior hardly ever went outside anyway.’

If she was determined to hide it, she could easily conceal it for several months.

However, there was something in her past that lacked explanation.

“You said you were a Sword Angel, but what happened to your Divine Power? I can’t sense any of it.”

She wasn’t even wearing a silver anklet to conceal Divine Power.

The narrow-eyed priest answered Amon’s question.

“To seal a demon, one must extract Divine Power.”

Demons parasitize the source of the soul to control the body. This makes them more difficult to exorcise than other possessions.

The problem is that Divine Power is created and stored at the source of the soul.

Therefore, to separate the demon, one must also separate the Divine Power from the source.

“Her Divine Power is sealed here along with that demon.”

The priest pointed to his left arm.

Only then did Amon understand and accept the Mother Superior’s words.

    “So… that’s what happened.”

    Surprisingly, Amon accepted it quickly.

After all, there was nothing for Amon to dispute about the fact that the Mother Superior was Sonia’s birth mother.

Sonia also struggled to accept the fact that the Mother Superior was her biological mother.

    “Please… give me some time…”

The psychological shock was greater than expected, so it seemed she needed time to fully accept it.

But with enough time, it seemed she would eventually be able to accept it.

The Mother Superior saw their reactions and felt one of her worries lift.

She had feared they might reject her, but there was no need for that concern.

However, there was something they had forgotten.

“So, is this why you’re apologizing to us?”

At Amon’s question, the Mother Superior and the narrow-eyed priest’s shoulders trembled slightly.

    Right.

This wasn’t why they had called them.

The reason the two had summoned Amon and Sonia wasn’t to reveal the secret of their birth.

Though that was part of it, the real purpose was to ask forgiveness for their sins related to this secret.

The Mother Superior’s fingertips trembled. The priest looked at her with concern and said:

    “Shall I explain?”

But the Mother Superior shook her head.

This was a sin she had to bear herself.

In an atmosphere that had become incomparably heavier than before, Amon and Sonia swallowed dryly.

And when the Mother Superior confessed her sins, both Amon and Sonia were left speechless.

    *

“I… I thought Divine Power was a curse. So I hid your Divine Power from you.”

The Mother Superior had concealed their Divine Power. Out of fear of the misfortune it might bring.

But there are no eternal secrets in this world.

From the beginning, the Mother Superior’s ability wasn’t enough to hide their talents and Divine Power.

Various forces that noticed their Divine Power slowly approached.

The Mother Superior gave up on hiding their Divine Power and changed her strategy.

“I constrained you. While saying I wanted you to live freely, I made it impossible for you to leave the orphanage.”

The Vatican, corporations, government, and so on.

She rationalized that she was giving the children freedom of choice while fending off all forces that approached them.

She justified it as being for the children’s freedom of choice, but in reality, it was just ugly obsession.

Her true desire was for the children not to venture into the dangerous world.

But even this was trivial compared to the sin she would commit next.

    “I… I…”

The Mother Superior couldn’t continue her explanation.

As if he had expected this, the narrow-eyed priest took over.

The story shifted to when the priest visited her after a long time.

It was a day Amon knew as well.

The day after Amon had exorcised the ghost possessing Jimmy using scripture, the priest had come to the orphanage to perform an exorcism for the first time.

That day, a conversation about Amon and Sonia took place between the Mother Superior and the priest.

The priest started by talking about Amon, then brought up Sonia’s Divine Power.

    ‘Two Divine Power holders…’

It was unusual for two to be born in one area, but more dangerous was the fact that both were in the same orphanage.

Corporations wouldn’t leave them alone, and demons might target them.

So the priest expressed his intention to take them to the Vatican.

Naturally, the Mother Superior refused, but the priest calmly pressured her, persuading her why they should be sent to the Vatican.

Rationally, the priest’s words were entirely reasonable.

Although the Vatican had become corrupt, at least with the priest’s connections and power, the children could grow up safely.

But the very fact of sending her daughter to the Vatican triggered the Mother Superior’s trauma.

Eventually, the Mother Superior exploded with pent-up emotions.

    – “At least let the children choose their own future!”

The moment she uttered those words, the Mother Superior felt nauseous.

How could she say such things?

She was the one suppressing the children’s freedom.

Yet because she was afraid to choose herself, she passed the choice to the children.

Disgusting. Nothing had changed since then.

She felt revulsion at her contradictory and indolent self.

The priest, knowing the Mother Superior’s circumstances, looked at her meaningfully, then sighed deeply.

Raising both hands in surrender, he declared he would not interfere with the children.

The priest had no right to criticize the children’s education policy in the first place.

After wandering the world performing exorcisms due to his wanderlust, he returned after 7 years. It was meaningless to pretend to care about the children now.

Both the priest and the Mother Superior were the worst people as parents.

Afterward, the priest left silver anklets for the children and told the Mother Superior:

    – “I understand your wishes. But you will regret it.”

It was directed at the Mother Superior, but it was also self-deprecation.

So the priest compromised to leave the children at the orphanage and observed them from a distance.

Sure enough, Higgjen Transport’s clutches gradually approached, and the priest continued to block their advances from places unknown.

He claimed it was to stop Higgjen Transport’s plots as the Vatican, but the priest’s own purpose was for entirely personal reasons.

In the process, the priest warned the Mother Superior that Higgjen Transport was approaching. At this rate, sending them to the Vatican was the right choice.

But the Mother Superior’s position was firm.

    – “Leave the children alone. Leave them alone, please!”

When things reached this point, even the priest felt uncomfortable. The Mother Superior’s state was abnormal.

The priest followed his discomfort and uncovered the Mother Superior’s purpose, soon learning of her disgusting plan.

    – “Are you insane?! You’re going to sacrifice that child?!”

The reason the Mother Superior refused the Vatican to the end.

It was because she could protect ‘at least’ Sonia.

She would use Amon’s overwhelming Divine Power to create a smokescreen for Sonia’s Divine Power.

If Higgjen Transport took Amon, Sonia would be safe.

With this method, she wouldn’t have to send them to the Vatican and could protect her daughter from Higgjen Transport.

Realizing this, the priest scolded the Mother Superior for the first time.

    – “Even if you have a soft spot, you should know your limits! How are you any different from those disgusting old men?!”

He had always been careful with his words, knowing the Mother Superior’s past. But this time she had gone too far.

Because of this incident, the priest abandoned his neutrality.

Breaking the neutrality he had promised the Mother Superior, he actively sought to protect Amon and Sonia.

This was why he took them to the resort.

Outwardly, he pretended it was for the Vatican to win their hearts, but in reality, it was an excuse to have the Vatican dispatch Holy Knights.

But as soon as the priest took the two to the resort, events began to unfold rapidly.

    Higgjen Transport attacked them.

This attack completely shattered the Mother Superior’s mental state.

Her mental state was already unstable, and her husband, whom she considered her only ally in the world, scolded her for the first time.

Higgjen Transport attacked not only the priest but also the orphanage.

Throughout this process, the Mother Superior had done nothing right.

She only caused problems and couldn’t do anything. And even now, she didn’t know what she should do.

Finally, as her forgotten past trauma resurfaced, she couldn’t bear it.

    – “I have to choose… I have to choose… What should I choose… Mother… please answer me…”

Returning from the resort trip, the priest stopped his hand from knocking when he heard desperate sobbing coming from the Mother Superior’s room.

And in place of the Mother Superior, he gathered the children and evacuated them to the cathedral.

‘Come to think of it, the Mother Superior wasn’t there.’

Amon recalled the fact he had naturally overlooked at the time.

Looking back, on the day they returned from the resort, the Mother Superior hadn’t welcomed Amon and Sonia.

At that time, the priest was taking care of people and children as if he were the Mother Superior’s proxy.

Even while Amon was planning to crush Higgjen Transport, the Mother Superior hardly showed her face.

At the time, he had assumed it was due to the shock of the attack, but the reality was infinitely darker.

Having explained this far, the narrow-eyed priest removed his glasses with a bitter expression.

Rubbing the already clean lenses, he said with a slight sob:

“Fortunately… thanks to the miracle that is Amon, we were able to reach this happy ending.”

Fortunately, reality presented a third option, neither the priest’s way nor the Mother Superior’s.

Amon destroyed Higgjen in a way no one had thought of, and everyone was able to reach a happy ending.

It could even be considered fortunate.

Contrary to the Mother Superior’s misconception, Higgjen Transport had been targeting Sonia, not Amon, from the beginning.

Therefore, if they had followed either the Mother Superior’s or the priest’s method…

It would probably have led to the worst outcome imaginable.

The priest bowed his head to Amon.

“Thank you, Amon. You are an angel sent by the Lord to us. No matter what anyone says.”
