Ch.9494. Beijing, Intensive Training
by fnovelpia
The incident happened suddenly.
June 29th. A day when it was starting to get hot.
In Beijing, the capital of the Chinese Empire, daily life was proceeding as usual.
In the skyscrapers of Beijing, the financial center of the Chinese Empire, countless office workers were being ground down, while on the rooftops of these skyscrapers, the greedy capitalist pigs were busily conducting meetings.
The scene was so peaceful(?) that it almost felt strangely out of place—
————————AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!
Suddenly, sirens blared loudly enough to echo throughout all of Beijing, followed by the urgent voice of a state-certified news anchor.
[A, a high-level monster is approaching downtown Beijing! A high-level monster is approaching downtown Beijing! Citizens are advised to evacuate to underground bunkers immediately! I repeat! Currently—]
And immediately after that.
“””AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!”””
“”””””KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH———!!!!””””””
“Hurry, hurry up and go!!!”
Downtown Beijing, which had been dominated by ordinary life just moments ago, was soon engulfed in chaos and madness.
Though China has now eliminated all surrounding threats with the power of anti-psychic bombs, just a few years ago, the Chinese Empire was constantly suffering from monster invasions.
Most office workers here have either directly experienced monster invasions or have lived for decades with constant reminders of the dangers of such invasions. Now they were panicking at the fact that the capital itself—the place with the best defense facilities in the entire Chinese Empire—was under direct attack.
If the meticulously established defense lines had all been breached, they feared how powerful the monster rushing toward Beijing must be.
“Move aside! Get out of the way!”
“I was here first! Get lost!”
Even in the midst of this chaos, Beijing citizens displayed truly Chinese-style courtesy as they desperately tried to evacuate first, which ironically resulted in the evacuation taking even longer.
And as the evacuation dragged on and the entire city fell into disorder…
“KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH———!!!”
Beginning with one woman’s scream, downtown Beijing was plunged into chaos incomparable to what came before.
How long had it been since the evacuation warning? Monsters had already entered the downtown area.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr…………
GRAAAAAAAAAAH———!!!!
CRACK!
The identity of the monsters that had entered the city was none other than a pack of mutated winter wolves that frequently appeared in the border regions.
Since breaking through Beijing’s defense line—protected by thousands of mid-level hunters and tens of thousands of soldiers—was no easy feat, most of these mutated winter wolves were missing limbs or severely injured. The number of winter wolves that successfully entered the city was only a few dozen at most.
But even those few dozen wounded winter wolves were enough to cause catastrophic casualties in a city of 20 million people.
Moreover, since the evacuation was still in progress, about 40% of citizens remained outside the bunkers, and the bunker doors hadn’t even closed yet.
“Damn it……..close it!”
“Yes, sir!”
The bunker managers made a drastic decision to prevent winter wolves from infiltrating the bunkers and causing a massacre.
“What, what’s happening?!!”
“Why are they closing?!!”
“Stop it! Stop closing it!”
Even though not all citizens had entered yet, they simply sealed off the bulkheads and activated the psychic barriers.
The citizens outside tried to stop the descending bulkheads, but ordinary people couldn’t stop metal barriers weighing dozens of tons with their bare hands, and there weren’t any psychic users of sufficient power present who could do anything about it.
As a result, the citizens abandoned outside the bunkers scattered to places they thought were safe, terrified by the sounds of people being killed by monsters somewhere in the city. Some of them were, predictably, killed by passing mutated winter wolves.
And as the scent of blood began to spread through the city…
……o……..u………..k………..woong…………THUD…….THUD! THUD! THUD!
With vibrations strong enough to be felt throughout Beijing, a thumping sound spread across the entire city, and then ‘it’ appeared between the buildings.
‘It’ was enormous.
It was larger than most high-rise buildings, casting a shadow that darkened the city. Its overwhelming mass caused the ground to collapse, and the psychic waves it emitted disabled various electronic devices.
And its appearance—it resembled a giant silver bipedal lizard wearing the skin of a wolf on its back.
Its back and upper mouth undoubtedly resembled a winter wolf, but its lower jaw and abdomen were densely covered with scales, giving it the form of a wolf but the appearance unmistakably like that of a lizard.
Just the sight of it was enough to strip away the will to survive from the citizens of the Chinese Empire—the Giant Winter Wolf, a mighty beast, briefly looked around before moving again and beginning its destruction.
It collapsed high-rise buildings with light body slams and destroyed bridges by swinging its lizard-like tail.
Despite these simple movements that didn’t seem to require much effort, downtown Beijing began to gradually collapse—
KWAAAAAAAAAAH———!!!!
KWANG! PUSHUUUUU———KWAGAGANG!!!
But even against this terrible living natural disaster, there was resistance.
Hundreds of attack helicopters, hundreds of fighter jets, and dozens of bombers flew in, dropping bombs, launching missiles, and firing monster-piercing rounds.
To chip away at its barrier field as much as possible, to wear down the monster even slightly, numerous soldiers continued their attacks until the end, even as their aircraft were shot down one by one.
TUDUDUDUDUDUDUDU———.
“……..So this is it. The one that entered my city with dirty feet!”
Meanwhile, a man arrived in downtown Beijing on a special aircraft—a helicopter.
He was wearing a small giant armor made from a Grade 1 humanoid monster with golden orichalcum scales engraved on it, a flowing red cape, and holding an orichalcum crescent blade with a five-clawed oriental dragon (a dragon with five claws) engraved on a red psychic crystal.
On his back was an anti-gravity jetpack with an A-rank bio-core. His name was Li Zhongshang.
The current Emperor of the Chinese Empire and the strongest warrior in China who had recently ascended to the rank of Grade 0 hunter.
He had temporarily left the Imperial Palace in Beijing due to a border dispute, but returned immediately upon learning of the incident. Sensing that something was seriously wrong, he frowned—and jumped from the helicopter.
The moment he jumped, the Chinese Emperor overlaid a massive psychic construct onto his crescent blade and charged rapidly toward the Giant Winter Wolf.
Judging that even a giant monster, being merely a Grade 1 creature, could not stand against him, the Emperor delivered his most powerful strike, enhanced by the force of gravity—
PUSHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE——————!!!!!!
KWADUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUDUK!!!!!
Suddenly, the Emperor was pushed back by the overwhelming amount of cold energy emitted from the Giant Winter Wolf.
The cold powder that burst forth spread instantly, covering the entire downtown Beijing, turning the whole city into a winter wonderland and even freezing the bunkers hundreds of meters underground.
But what mattered to the Emperor wasn’t the mere 20 million humans.
“……..A sword?”
Yes. The wolf monster before him was holding a giant sword formed by condensing psychic cold energy to its extreme.
The Emperor wanted to shout at the beast for daring to imitate humans, but even he couldn’t underestimate what stood before him.
He was wary not only because the sword had enough firepower to freeze all of Beijing just in its creation process, but for an even more fundamental reason.
“How can……..a mere beast do this?”
The Giant Winter Wolf was skillfully taking a stance with the sword, like a veteran hunter who had wielded a greatsword for decades, while cautiously surveying its surroundings.
Looking around as if searching for someone, the winter wolf seemed to spot the Emperor at some point and stared in his direction.
Then suddenly, it grinned at the Emperor with a sneering smile—
WOOOOOONG———KWAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGAGANG!!!!
It opened its mouth and blasted a beam of extreme cold energy toward the Emperor with all its might.
