Ch.92Chapter 92

Tuesday was the day of the third-year lecture, “Demon God Magic Studies,” in the afternoon. It was also Sera’s favorite lecture of the week.

Walking through the Academy with Yuria, Ouroboros lifted her expressionless face and looked around.

Though she had come on Friday, Saturday, and yesterday too, she still felt something new, as if she wasn’t yet accustomed to it. The scenery embracing Ouroboros was completely different from being in the forest or from when she had secretly glimpsed the town from the forest.

Ouroboros liked what she saw and added a smile to her expressionless face.

“Ourr! You didn’t contact me at all, so I was worried something might have happened to you!”

Although they tried to hide Ouroboros’s presence within the Academy, quite a few people had already seen her, making perfect information control impossible.

This incident had planted suspicions, subtly if not definitively.

Originally, only the Academy’s upper management and academic society knew about her unique constitution—not dying when killed—but there was concern that if things continued this way, the information might spread to ordinary citizens.

Well, putting those questions aside for now, Sera was primarily worried about Ourr.

Ourr had said she could go alone, so Sera had let her, but there had been no contact since then, which was quite alarming.

She wasn’t going to scold her, but she was anxious because apparently two major incidents had occurred at the Academy after school ended.

Hugging Ouroboros tightly during roll call, Sera hesitated for a while before looking at Ouroboros’s face again.

    “…Ourr?”

At first, she had hugged her out of relief and happiness, but something felt off.

Sera’s expression stiffened slightly as Ouroboros stared at her with an expressionless face, as if wanting to play a prank.

    “What’s your name?”

“…It’s Sera, isn’t it? Huh? Did you, did you forget? Don’t you remember what we did together?”

Come to think of it, it had been like this earlier too.

Ourr, who had entered with the Professor, had just tried to sit somewhere nearby without saying anything. Sera had managed to get her to sit next to her, but after checking her condition, she was left feeling troubled.

What was going on? Had she lost her memory?

The Professor had seemed busy, and Sera didn’t want to be a nuisance by going to the Research Lab, but seeing Ourr like this, she slightly regretted not checking on her condition earlier.

Sera moistened her dry lips. Not knowing what to do, she fidgeted and couldn’t keep her gaze in one place.

Ouroboros watched this quietly and whispered.

    “Sera? Is that your name?”

The articulate, seemingly emotionless voice reached her. Sensing something strange, Sera slightly distanced herself.

She backed away because something felt different from the Ourr she knew.

Ouroboros didn’t care how Sera treated her. From Ouroboros’s perspective, everyone was someone she was meeting for the first time, and it was also disconcerting that someone had suddenly told her to come over, shouted “Ourr,” and hugged her.

After quietly observing Sera, who was too shocked to speak, she nodded.

    “I am not Ourr.”

With those words, Sera’s expression filled with confusion.

Sera tried to focus on the lecture without saying anything. When Ourr had said she wasn’t Ourr but something else, Sera was too confused to concentrate, wondering if something different was inside her.

As soon as the lecture ended, Sera moved with Ouroboros to where Yuria was.

Since Yuria couldn’t talk in the lecture hall where many eyes were watching, she changed locations to the Research Building with Sera.

    “—How much do you know?”

As soon as they entered the Research Lab, Yuria asked with a slightly troubled expression.

What mattered most was how much the regular students knew about Ourr. It was to determine how much of the information, which had only been disclosed within the Academy, had leaked.

“I just heard that police were coming and going inside the Academy, and that a Demon God seemed to have gone berserk…”

Sera answered with a slightly nervous voice. Her gaze shifted slightly toward Ouroboros, who was sitting in a corner.

“I see. You didn’t think about coming to find me right away?”

“I wanted to, but it was too confusing, and I said I’d ask first because the Professor might be uncomfortable if I came when she was busy. I could meet you first in your lecture.”

Sera explained why she hadn’t immediately come looking for what had happened to Ourr.

Even now, Aria and Karen were probably waiting anxiously for information from Sera. Sera had wanted to come first to ask about Ouroboros.

“Then, who is she? She called herself Ouroboros…”

Following Sera’s gaze to Ouroboros, Yuria almost burst out laughing.

She was pretending to chew on something in the air, perhaps watching another mukbang video on her phone, and Yuria had to suppress her laughter at the sight.

“This is something only the Academy’s academic society knows, not the students… just tell your friends. Aria and Karen, I suppose.”

    “Ah, yes.”

Sensing this was no ordinary matter, Sera tensed up. She barely moistened her dry throat with saliva.

“It seems Ourr and Ouroboros have dual personalities. They take turns occupying the body.”

Yuria couldn’t explain how this worked, as she had only observed the phenomenon. She could only answer this much to the question.

Sera was perceptive enough to understand that much, so she moved on to another question.

“Then how did this happen? Nothing like this occurred from March until now, right?”

She had pinpointed the exact issue.

She had been told there were two personalities. Though incredibly rare, since Ourr was a Demon God and Sera had experienced it herself, there was no question of belief. The facts were right in front of her.

So she needed to know other information.

She was curious about what had happened to cause this sudden personality change when it hadn’t occurred before.

Last Friday. Even though she thought she should have returned to the Academy, she couldn’t regret anything because she would have just gone home if she could go back to that time without knowing anything.

Sera waited for Yuria’s answer after asking her question.

Yuria pondered for a long time. She wasn’t sure if she should reveal this much. She was also afraid to dismiss it with “She won’t die anyway.”

Hadn’t it happened this time too? A second-year student had stabbed Ourr because they really wanted to kill her, and next time someone might pick up a knife with the intention of causing pain, thinking, “She won’t die anyway.” She had to be careful.

But would Sera, Aria, and Karen be okay since they played with Ourr?

“When Ourr and Ouroboros fall below a certain age, they return to being adults. And that’s not all. During that process, their personalities change.”

“How… do they fall below that age?”

    “When they die.”

Thud. She felt as if her heart had sunk.

Then the reason Ouroboros had appeared now was because Ourr had died.

It was somewhat fortunate that it wasn’t a complete death but a personality switch, but the fact that she had experienced death was still horrifying to hear.

Being human, it was hard to think from a Demon God’s perspective.

“…Ah, so, was that why police cars were coming and going, according to the community? I heard some student was taken to the hospital.”

“That’s right, but I’d prefer if this wasn’t discussed in the community. I’d like to keep secret the fact that Ourr’s age decreases when she dies, and that when she returns to being an adult, she switches between being Ourr and Ouroboros.”

“I’ll, I’ll keep it to myself. I’ll only tell them about Ouroboros… just part of it.”

    It was too shocking.

Even the academic society and upper management were surprised when they heard it, so how could Sera, just a student, take it calmly?

After hesitating, she hung her head low.

    ‘Sera!’

She recalled Ourr calling her name with a bright smile. The fact that such an Ourr had experienced death once, and the realization that to see Ourr again, she would have to kill Ouroboros, who was sitting quietly there opening and closing her mouth, made her emotional twice over.

    I can’t do it.

Sera didn’t have the courage to do that. Of course, Yuria wouldn’t ask such a thing of Sera, but after learning this truth, seeing either Ourr or Ouroboros would only bring confusion.

It was a moment that made her understand why Demon Gods were shunned by people.

The distorted atmosphere from somewhere creates discomfort in people.

When people see others dying up close, or hear news of someone’s death, the living become troubled. That was exactly what Ourr and Ouroboros represented.

A being that couldn’t escape death.

A strange existence where one side had to die for the other to exist.

    But Sera was Ourr’s friend.

“…Then what happens to Ourr, and what happens to Ouroboros?”

“That’s something I need to think about. I’ll let you know later.”

Unfortunately, Sera couldn’t get an answer to her question.

Yuria also had a lot to think about and couldn’t answer hastily.

Because Yuria had also learned that Ouroboros wasn’t such a creepy being this time.

She couldn’t give such a lengthy explanation to a student, so she omitted the elaborate details.
