Ch.90Chapter 90. Must Catch (2)
by fnovelpia
‘I have to ride that thing.’
I thought while watching Greenie walk through the air, keeping an eye on me.
Greenie was walking very slowly and leisurely, as if asking if this was how it should be done.
Operation Clean-up Hidden Remnants Using Greenie – an idea that started with Addy.
Thanks to the Quest, I was certain the remaining guys were inside the Academy.
After pondering how to show Greenie to those bastards, this was the decision I made.
There was some risk involved, but I decided to let Greenie roam around openly outside for them to see.
I’d love to ride on Greenie and race across the Academy if I could.
‘Better not get caught unnecessarily.’
The entire continent is already in an uproar because of Black Magic.
At a time like this, showing myself riding Greenie inside the Academy wouldn’t be a good choice.
Even if I wore a uniform and mask to conceal my identity.
“Time to head back, I guess.”
I feel like I’ve circled the entire Academy about five times already.
This should be enough for today.
‘It seems like we might get a bite soon.’
It felt like fishing.
Today marks the fifth day of taking evening walks with Greenie.
Walking around every night, they must have seen us by now.
Rumors about an Undead horse flying through the air at night are already spreading among students.
I thought we’d get a response around today, but not yet.
‘Right, let’s try for a week like Addy suggested.’
“Greenie!”
With that thought, I called Greenie, ready to head back.
The place where Greenie and I disappear is always the same.
Near the completely destroyed building that once housed the Chancellor’s and Vice Chancellor’s offices.
Greenie slowly walked down toward me at my call.
And that’s when it happened.
‘Huh?’
Just as Greenie had almost descended to the ground, I sensed something suspicious.
It was too suspicious to be the movement of an ordinary student or faculty member.
Woong-
Instinctively detecting the suspicious presence, I moved far away from Greenie.
Greenie looked around in confusion when I suddenly disappeared.
And during that time, someone carefully walked out from the dark forest.
‘That’s it!’
I feel a bit sorry for referring to a person as “that,” but I couldn’t help it.
I was wondering when we’d get a bite, and finally, here it was.
The appearance and movement were clearly suspicious.
The way they kept looking around, and how they had their robe flipped over to hide their appearance.
Whoever emerged from the forest slowly approached Greenie.
Greenie seemed to notice that someone other than me was approaching, as it was looking in that direction and stomping its feet.
If this had been a newly caught Greenie, it would have charged right at anyone approaching.
But Greenie, now thoroughly trained by me, was different.
Instead of charging immediately, it stomped its feet and slowly assessed the opponent.
‘Okay. Got you.’
Grin-
I couldn’t help but smile as I watched someone approaching the well-behaved Greenie.
I could capture this guy right now, but I needed to think bigger.
Catching one subordinate here wouldn’t necessarily reveal where they were hiding, so I needed to resolve this in one go.
‘Greenie, listen to that person well.’
I thought while watching Greenie stomping with wariness.
Just follow them quietly.
**
Nora.
A member of the student council and editor-in-chief of the Academy weekly.
Nora checked if her artifact was recording this scene properly.
The rumor that had been stirring up the Academy for the past few days.
The rumor that an Undead roams the Academy at night was true.
Though she wasn’t sure if that thing was exactly an Undead or something else.
‘This is amazing…!’
Nora swallowed hard as she watched the skeleton horse slowly descending from the sky to the ground.
She never thought she’d be able to capture it this close.
A skeleton horse surrounded by green flames floating in the air.
Not only had she confirmed the rumor was true, but she’d also clearly captured the identity of the Undead – it was incredible.
Just then, the Undead descended from the sky toward the ground.
Nora blankly watched the approaching Undead.
Seeing it up close, rather than being scary because it was an Undead, it somehow looked quite cool.
The body made only of bones was slightly grotesque, but the green flames made up for it.
While she was staring blankly at the horse, someone emerged from the forest.
‘Wh-what?!’
Nora instinctively flattened herself under the debris of the collapsed building.
It was a completely instinctive action.
Even so, Nora checked if her artifact was still working properly.
This was even more incredible than capturing the Undead up close.
Who would have thought the horse had an owner?
‘C-could there be someone raising an Undead in the Academy…!’
Nora’s unique imagination began to grow uncontrollably.
An Undead horse raised by someone inside the Academy.
Could that person also be related to the Undead wyvern that appeared during the festival not long ago?
She thought everything had ended when Vice Chancellor Landgar was caught, but was that not the case?
Nora was scared but also felt an inexplicable sense of duty.
She had to capture the Undead and that person on film until the end.
Clop- Clop-
Nora held her breath and then cautiously peeked out at the sound of hooves.
‘It really was the owner!’
The green-flamed horse was following a man wrapped in a robe into the forest.
Nora couldn’t contain her excitement as she watched the scene.
This news was a bigger scoop than any news ever published in the Academy weekly.
It might be even bigger than the scandal article about the princess who used to work at the Academy.
Swoosh-
Nora rose, making an effort to magically erase her presence more thoroughly.
Fortunately, although the horse had gone quite far, it was still visible from a distance thanks to the green flames.
Nora quickly got up and followed.
Her instincts were telling her this was very dangerous, but her curiosity was greater.
Nora slowly entered deeper into the forest, thinking about what headline to use for her article.
‘The Truth Behind the Dark Rumor? No, that’s too ordinary. Maybe I should use the Undead keyword.’
How far had she followed them?
Nora had never ventured this deep into the Training Forest, even during classes.
It felt like she had reached the very end of the forest, but the green flames were still moving forward.
‘Hmm, but this doesn’t seem like the right path.’
Despite the green flames clearly moving forward, Nora thought.
It seemed like this path wouldn’t lead to the destination.
The fact that she was following the horse without a destination of her own had somehow disappeared from Nora’s mind.
She felt like she shouldn’t continue straight but should turn back.
This thought alone dominated Nora.
‘Right, there’s nothing this way. I should turn back.’
Just as she was about to turn left with unfocused eyes.
“Ugh!”
‘…Huh?’
The sound of a man’s scream from ahead snapped her back to reality.
At the same time, focus returned to Nora’s eyes, and she looked straight in the direction of the sound.
She still felt reluctant to move forward, but she didn’t turn away.
The robed man who had been walking with the Undead was now lying on the ground.
‘What’s going on?’
Nora instinctively hid behind a tree while checking her artifact.
Thanks to her particularly small frame for a woman, Nora could hide perfectly behind the tree.
The artifact was still working normally.
Nora held her breath and listened.
And shortly after.
“W-who are you!”
“How did you get here!”
“So this is where you are!”
Hearing multiple voices from ahead, Nora peeked out.
Despite the distance, the sounds were clearly audible in the quiet forest.
Just a moment ago there had been only one person, but now there were many people around the Undead horse.
At least five.
‘What’s happening?’
Nora lay flat on the ground and observed the situation.
It was clearly not a peaceful situation by any means.
One person was already down, and other people who had appeared from nowhere were preparing for battle.
“Is that the entrance?”
“How did they break through the barri… Urgh!”
“Ah, your boss is already caught, why are you still hanging around here?”
‘W-wow, this is incredible.’
Gulp-
Nora swallowed and widened her eyes, not wanting to miss a single moment of the scene.
A man in black clothes was quickly knocking down people in white robes.
It wasn’t that the men in white robes weren’t resisting, but it was useless.
The white-robed men would just fall whenever the man in black swung his fist.
‘Whoa. What on earth is going on here?’
The skeleton horse surrounded by green flames had moved aside as if making room.
Nora thought this was truly incredible as she watched the battle scene.
From what they were saying, the Undead’s owner seemed to be connected to the Vice Chancellor’s people.
Vice Chancellor Landgar, who was recently caught as the mastermind behind the Undead wyvern attack.
His forces were still hiding in the Academy.
‘This is on an enormous scale!!’
Once again, Nora’s imagination began to run wild.
The remaining forces of Vice Chancellor Landgar hiding in the Academy, waiting for an opportunity.
And someone taking preemptive action before they could make their move.
‘Who could it be??’
Nora couldn’t contain her curiosity as she watched the white-robed figures falling helplessly.
Swoosh-
And that curiosity made Nora move.
Despite the obvious danger, Nora crawled as far forward as possible.
Getting her clothes dirty didn’t matter at all.
“Phew.”
Meanwhile, the battle had ended.
The winner was, of course, the man in black clothes.
The artifact was still clearly recording all these scenes.
‘Wow, he defeated several people alone.’
Nora watched the black-clothed man with admiration.
The man was looking around.
‘Huh?’
And thanks to the black-clothed man removing his hood and looking around, she could clearly see.
A black mask covering his face.
‘W-what?’
Nora knew the identity of that mask.
The mask known to be always worn by the captain of the Black Shadow Corps.
The so-called Black Mask.
‘B-Black Shadow Corps??’
Nora barely suppressed the scream that was about to escape.
