Ch.8888. Only My Luck Is Good
by fnovelpia
I wouldn’t exactly call myself a lucky person, strictly speaking.
In my ten years playing Farming World, I’ve acquired quite a few high-grade resources and rare rewards overall, but that’s only because my playtime has been so long. I’ve gotten above-average rewards through sheer volume of attempts, not because I’m particularly lucky.
Just look at the fact that I’ve never obtained a single mythic-grade box or reward.
Some people start playing and immediately get a mythic box—then have the audacity to complain that they got it too early to activate its special options. Meanwhile, I’ve played for ten years, and despite being someone who’s cultivated maps for several years, I haven’t gotten even one mythic-grade box that most others eventually obtain.
Of course, not everyone gets one, and most people don’t, but my attempts at legendary and mythic boxes have absolutely outnumbered most players.
The only time I could say I’ve been lucky is since coming to the Rift Dimension.
Finding a glass stone on the road, gathering healing herbs, and collecting the previous owner’s legacies while playing might be due to preparation, but it could also be considered somewhat lucky.
Getting a hero-grade box in the sewers and then a legendary-grade box in the Corrupted Forest right after…
Obtaining hero-grade or higher rewards from just two dungeons definitely meant my early luck was extraordinary.
That luck has continued until now.
Having obtained Kukum, I no longer have the right to claim I’m unlucky.
But even then, there was room for excuses since Kukum appeared thanks to the Goddess’s Blessing from my passive skill [Divine Bestowal], which came from my SSS+ ability.
So I could make some ridiculous excuse like “It’s not that I’m lucky—it’s just my luck-enhancing skill activating!” Similar to saying “I drank alcohol but wasn’t driving drunk!”
But this—this leaves no room for excuses.
Consecutive mythics.
And a pure mythic appearing without the Goddess’s Blessing triggering is statistically impossible.
“My first mythic in my entire farming career, right here…”
Tears of joy blur my vision.
Boxes are great and all, but having a mythic-grade NPC in the village is far better than a mythic-grade box.
[NPC Information]
– Name: Liere

“At this rate, this will turn into a fantasy world.”
Dwarves and elves.
These races typically play certain roles in fantasy novels, but in those stories, they’re usually not cooperative with humans and consider themselves superior species who only occasionally help the protagonist.
Elves living in forests and dwarves living in mines.
Those two.
And now an elderly Elf Queen and an ancient Dwarf will be NPCs in my Rift Dimension village.
When summoned, a tall elf nearly 2 meters in height appears.
In Farming World, elves are typically described as humanoid beings with long ears and pale skin.
The Elf Queen perfectly embodied these characteristics.
“Wow…”
Even knowing it’s rude to gape in admiration before someone, Liere was just that perfect and beautiful.
A sculpture.
That’s what you might think she was if you didn’t know better.
I’ve never seen anyone who suits teal hair resembling nature so well.
Long hair flowing down to her waist.
Delicate features on a face no bigger than a fist.
The neck and collarbone following her jawline.
Her figure, revealing more skin than it conceals, accounts for over 90% of my admiration.
Yet she shows no embarrassment, standing proud.
A race of nature.
This race blessed by nature’s love seemed to have no intention of hiding their naturally gifted physiques.
“Is it you?”
Liere said something similar to what Kukum had said.
“The master of the Rift… it’s been a while.”
The Elf Queen looked down on me slightly with a smirk.
She looked at me curiously, but with eyes that seemed to wonder how long I would last.
A gaze without much expectation.
“Nice to meet you.”
Apparently, my assumption that speaking informally was just old-fashioned Confucian thinking was my own misunderstanding.
The Elf Queen’s eyebrow twitched.
Well, it’s not like I didn’t know.
In Farming World, many people think of elves as NPCs, but they’re actually classified as a monster race.
They appear in specific biomes guarding World Trees, and since the World Tree’s fruit is quite valuable and effective, players who are lucky enough to find a World Tree biome desperately try to raid the elves, eat the fruits, and cut down the World Tree for materials.
Because of this, elves and players in Farming World can’t possibly have good relationships.
Occasionally, some elf enthusiasts try to build rapport with elves by putting on ridiculous displays, but the elves’ haughty attitude makes it difficult to build affinity.
I too once tried to bring in elves as NPCs without killing them, like others have attempted.
Not with the perverted intentions of those users who installed adult mods hoping to get with a voluptuous elf, but because, as you can see from Liere’s farming window, elves naturally have very high farming and gathering levels, plus their own combat abilities, making them very suitable as NPCs for farms.
So I tried various bribes and approaches, but ultimately, treating them roughly was what built intimacy in the shortest time.
It might differ between elves, but according to big data, my attitude was perfect for provoking Liere.
“Hmph. Humans are indeed ill-mannered. But since you’re the master of the Rift…”
She showed clear discomfort, but the title of “Rift Dimension Master” seemed to carry weight, so she didn’t complain further.
“I’ll observe for now. Come find me if you need help.”
[Farming Shop]
1. Buy
2. Sell
3. Breed Improvement
The farming shop didn’t have any special functions.
It mainly sold various items, with breed improvement being the core feature.
So why bother getting a mythic-grade elf? Because breed improvement is closely related to farming grade, which makes her a huge help.
Of course, I raised Kim Soo-jung’s farming grade to S+ and she can learn various skills related to breed improvement and unlock recipes, but there’s quite a difference in efficiency between using farming ability points to unlock things versus completing quests and paying Farm to unlock recipes.
Plus, NPCs sometimes sell recipes that are otherwise impossible to obtain.
“And I’d like to examine the Rift’s crops, so if possible, please bring me some of the local crops.”
[Sub-Quest]
[Farming Shop – Liere]
[Elf Queen Liere, summoned to the Farming Shop, has requested crops for her research.]
[Let’s grow and bring her 10 of each of 10 different crop types.]
[Reward: 2,000 Farm, 5 Farming Ability Points, Random Breed Recipe (Rare) x1, Seed Extractor x1]
“I’ll bring them right away.”
As expected.
The quests from an SS+ grade NPC are extraordinary from the start.
The good thing about these sub-quests is that they don’t end just because I accepted them.
Depending on the quest content, Kim Soo-jung can also accept them when she comes.
Since this isn’t a game, we need to verify if quests can be accepted multiple times, but since the NPCs have defined roles, I don’t think it will be much different.
“Let’s try the rest.”
I must be a lucky person after all.
After drawing consecutive mythic-grade NPCs, I gained confidence and headed straight for the tavern next.
Having a tavern that sells alcohol and various foods is convenient when you don’t feel like cooking, and there are recipes that add temporary buff effects to food, so while it’s a lower priority, having a high-grade one is still beneficial.
By the time it got dark and I returned home…
– Available Farm: 700
My Farm had been reduced to nothing.
“Sigh…”
Talk about luck all you want, but it’s only temporary.
After blowing 16,000 Farm trying to get a tavern NPC, I found myself walking home repeating “I’m so unlucky…”
No regrets though.
At least the Goddess’s Blessing triggered at the end and I got one legendary NPC.
[NPC Information]
– Name: Droksam
– Age: 44
– Race: Human
– Grade: S-
– Abilities: Cooking (S+), Bartending (S+)
– Stats: Strength (S), Agility (A+), Stamina (S-), Mana (A)
It was nice seeing a human after dealing with races that were thousands of years old.
I summoned her thinking from the name that she might have been a royal chef or something, but was surprised when a rough-looking middle-aged woman appeared.
Still, it was a fulfilling day, having filled the village’s essential buildings with NPCs up to legendary grade.
“Oppa, you’re back?”
After washing in warm water, I opened the door to Kim Soo-jung’s room on the second floor and found the two of them lying down watching a drama.
“I’ve restored the village, so go check tomorrow if you can greet them and accept quests.”
“Okay. Are other people here now too?”
“People… well, they’re people in a way. There are three. Blacksmith, farming shop, and tavern. You can buy materials from them if you need anything.”
“Okay~”
“And prepare because we’ll log out in a few days.”
“Yay!”
Despite burning through over 20,000 Farm in a day, I was able to sleep soundly and refreshed.
