Ch.87Daily Life in the Holy Kingdom (5)

Rebecca cried for a really long time. She must have cried for nearly three hours. Anyway, after the tearful Rebecca left the hospital room, it became truly quiet…

    Click.

Agath opened the door and came in. Now it’s going to get incredibly noisy.

I was thinking about how to respond to Agath’s sexual jokes, but she silently approached me and just hugged me.

    “…Ms. Agath?”

“Lite… can I ask you something?”

I heard a genuinely sorrowful voice. Did she get scolded by the Archbishop for making sexual jokes or something?

    “What is it?”

“Do I… look like a traitor to you?”

“You look like a pretty strange person, but not like a traitor.”

If Agath were a traitor, she would have kidnapped me or done something worse by now.

“Really? You really don’t see me as a traitor?”

“If you were a traitor, I wouldn’t be here anymore.”

“At least you believe in me…”

Agath said in an extremely tearful voice. Could she have been suspected of being a traitor and interrogated?

Honestly, Agath got off easy. If someone said Agath had become a traitor, it would be quite believable.

“So what happened to make you like this?”

“I really didn’t do anything… but everyone was looking at me like I was a traitor…”

“That’s what happens when you don’t live decently.”

“I’d rather become a traitor than live decently…”

“…This is exactly why people suspect you of being a traitor.”

It’s only natural to be suspected of being a traitor when you go around saying things like that. It’s just karma coming back around.

After silently hugging me for a while, Agath finally spoke.

“So when are you going to confess?”

“No, I’m absolutely never going to confess.”

“That boy likes you so much, and you’re just going to coldly reject him?”

“Well… I guess that could happen.”

Eventually, all of this will just become memories. Time will surely resolve everything somehow.

I just need to return to being a man again. Then Ju-an will naturally move on, and we can just be friends like before.

But I feel a strange emptiness. Just a hollow feeling.

While I was feeling this inexplicable bitterness, Agath smiled mischievously and said:

“Then I guess that boy will end up dating some other girl?”

    “…That’s up to Ju-an.”

“Right. He’ll probably date another girl, get married, have kids and everything. If that happens, will you receive his wedding invitation…?”

    “Get out.”

    “Alright, have a good night.”

Agath left the hospital room obediently, still wearing that irritating smile. This is seriously annoying.

Is Agath living just to make me angry? If not, why does she act like this?

Ugh, so annoying. I’ll just go to sleep.

But I can’t fall asleep because I’m so upset. Should I really draw a clear line with Agath?

While I was still fuming, Ha-eun entered the hospital room. It seems like almost everyone has visited me at least once.

    “Senior? Are you asleep?”

“No. But why are you here?”

“You said your ring broke, right? So I brought you something better.”

Ha-eun handed me a black ribbon that could be worn around the neck.

    “But is this really useful?”

“Yes. Unlike the previous ring, I used not just scales but also hair and molars, so it should definitely help.”

The previous one was small and seemed to have fewer materials, but this ribbon is quite large and made with various ingredients.

But if she could make something like this, why didn’t she make it for me before?

“…Where did you get those materials from?”

“I asked my master, and he agreed to help.”

“You didn’t blackmail him or anything, right?”

“…Let’s just say what’s done is done.”

That’s not exactly wrong. Since it’s already made, I might as well accept it gratefully.

    “So he’s okay, right?”

    “…”

    “…Ha-eun?”

“…He should wake up by tomorrow evening.”

I don’t want to know. I’ll just pretend nothing happened. Anyway, I tied the ribbon around my neck.

“So how do you feel now?”

“I feel a bit weaker than when I was wearing the ring.”

It’s definitely much easier to move now. But compared to when I wore the ring, I’m clearly weaker.

Still, this is enough for daily life without any problems. I should thank that dragon person later.

“Maybe I should extract another molar from my master…”

    “…What?”

    “…I’m joking.”

    “Are you really joking?”

“…Have a good night. I’ll be going now.”

Ha-eun left in a hurry. What did she use to blackmail the dragon person?

Thanks to the ribbon, moving around is easier now. At least I can make breakfast like I used to.

If I had to eat Leo’s cooking every day… I’m already getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

Anyway, I feel better after receiving such a nice gift. Thanks to that, I was able to fall asleep peacefully this time.

    ***

I woke up to the sound of a loud explosion. Could enemies be coming to kidnap me again?

I decided to find someone who could help. With that thought, I rushed out of the hospital room and saw Agath.

    “What’s happening this time?!”

    “Nothing happened.”

    “I’m asking what happened!”

    “Nothing happened.”

Agath kept avoiding my gaze while answering. Could it be…

“…You’re not actually a traitor, are you?”

    “…Lite?”

“Just answer me quickly. You’re not really a traitor, right?”

    “Of course not…”

    “Of course? I knew it!”

I pulled out my gun, pointed it at Agath, and threatened her in a sharp tone.

“If I shoot ten years’ worth of lifespan, I can kill you too. So just answer my questions.”

“No, I’m really not a trai—”

“I told you to just answer my questions!”

When I shouted loudly, Agath looked somewhat sad and became quiet. So she really is a traitor! I knew it!

“Fine, so why did you do it?”

“…Lite, you don’t really think I’m a traitor, do you?”

    “You are a traitor.”

    “I’m really not! I’m innocent!”

“Then do you have any evidence?”

Agath put her hand on her chin, pretending to think. I can clearly tell she’s making up excuses.

After a short while, Agath came up with a pathetic excuse.

“If I were a traitor, I would have taken you like a dog already.”

“But you could have just become a traitor now.”

“Do I even have a reason to become a traitor?”

“You probably fell for some promise about living a life true to your desires!”

This is Agath we’re talking about—someone who insists on making sexual jokes even when she’s about to be beaten to death by the Archbishop. If someone offered her something even better, would Agath really refuse?

    “…Lite.”

    “What!”

“Follow me. Then you’ll see what caused the explosion.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Agath started walking toward where the explosion had occurred.

It’s obviously a trap. But out of loyalty to a former comrade, I’ll follow her for now.

So I followed Agath while still pointing my gun at her. What I saw was truly confusing.

“There is no such thing as a god in this world! You damn fanatics!”

There was the Goddess’s statue completely smashed to pieces, and on top of it stood the Saint with a megaphone, shouting that there is no god.

    “Saint, what is this…”

“I never agreed to be a Saint or anything like that!”

“But the Goddess herself chose Rebecca…”

“It was just an auditory hallucination! You damn fanatics all have serious hearing problems!”

With a voice boiling with anger, Rebecca shouted into the megaphone again.

“There is no goddess in this world! If there were, why would she leave evil like the Demon King alone while watching good people suffer?”

“Surely the Goddess must have her reasons…”

“She has reasons for not intervening in this world at all? We don’t need such an incompetent goddess!”

Rebecca was still expressing her anger loudly enough to be heard far away through the megaphone.

“…Why is Rebecca acting like this?”

“By the Archbishop’s orders, she’s been forcibly praising the Goddess since early dawn. This is probably a reaction to that.”

“Why are you suddenly talking like that?”

“There are too many people around.”

I’ve always thought it would be nice if Agath were this polite and respectful, but now that it’s happening, it feels a bit awkward.

Whatever the case, Rebecca’s behavior is much stranger than Agath’s weird way of speaking.

“So she’s acting like this just because she had to praise the Goddess since dawn?”

“That seems to be the case.”

Let’s listen to what Rebecca is saying. Then we might understand the source of her anger.

“But yesterday, the Goddess lent her power to the Saint to save people…”

“That useless, incompetent, non-existent bitch didn’t help at all! Yesterday was entirely the result of our own efforts!”

Rebecca continued shouting with a voice full of resentment.

“We really did it for the first time! For the first time, we did it ourselves! And you’re saying this was possible because the Goddess helped? Don’t talk nonsense! You damn fanatics!”

Seeing this scene, I deeply regretted my actions. I should have just left Rebecca with her guilt yesterday.

While the Saint was destroying the believers’ faith to the ground, a large man appeared behind her.

    “What are you doing?”

The Archbishop’s voice contained truly, truly deep anger. And seeing him, Rebecca naturally shrank…

“I’m exposing the truth about that non-existent, selfish, incompetent, useless bi—”

    THUD!

The Archbishop’s fist struck Rebecca’s skull directly. She collapsed to the ground, bleeding from her head.

How can a fist make such a sound?

“Archbishop, why is the Saint acting like this?”

“She seems to be possessed by a demon. I will purify her quickly, so don’t worry.”

The Archbishop dragged Rebecca along the ground, taking her somewhere. Now the physical purification process will begin.

Anyway, as the incident ended, people started to leave one by one. Only after everyone nearby had left did Agath speak.

    “See? I’m not a traitor.”

    She really wasn’t.

“Well… after being kidnapped yesterday, I became a bit suspicious… and honestly, you were really annoying yesterday. So you can understand, right?”

Agath thought deeply about something for a moment, then smiled lewdly and said:

“I’ll forgive you if you let me touch your breasts.”

    “Get lost.”

“After how badly you treated me just now, isn’t once okay?”

“I’ll make you proper breakfasts from now on, so let’s call it even.”

“As if that’s enough for me to—”

“Would you prefer to eat Leo’s cooking?”

As soon as she heard “Leo’s cooking,” Agath quickly backed down. That’s definitely too terrifying.

Anyway, this Thursday morning was passing peacefully as always.
