Chapter Index

    “Commander, about earning those point scores…”

    “Hmm.”

    Perhaps thanks to having been in a daze for nearly an hour.

    Gone was the exhausted office lady from before, and Jessica had regained her bright, sparkling eyes. I nodded my head and gestured for her to continue.

    And in response to my reaction, Jessica wiggled her ears and continued speaking.

    “Couldn’t we just accept quests from Marian and complete them?”

    “Marian?”

    As she said this, pointing to Marian THE Pirate Empress who was exchanging communications in one corner of the command center.

    I momentarily felt my ears perk up, but.

    ‘Wait a minute, that’s impossible.’

    After a brief moment.

    Thinking it through a bit more, I realized why Jessica’s suggestion was impossible.

    And there was no need to keep this realization to myself.

    I decided to explain the unfortunate reality to our bright-eyed bunny girl Jessica.

    “…I’d love to do that too, but unfortunately, we can’t receive reward points from Marian.”

    “What? Why not?”

    With a look of incomprehension, Jessica eventually turned her body to shield herself from Marian’s view.

    While pointing at Marian with her finger, she continued.

    “But Marian’s friendship with you is already at 100%, maxed out.”

    “Well… that’s true.”

    “Then if we just received quests from Marian, we should get much more reward points, so why not?”

    Rather than giving Jessica a verbal response to her objection.

    I decided to answer by opening the base status window and showing it to her.

    <Icarus Fleet>

    <Affiliated Faction: Space Monster>

    <Base Level: 5>

    <Fleet Scale: 400 points>

    <Forward Base: 0>

    “Ta-da.”

    “…”

    And our Jessica, proving she wasn’t chosen as Adjutant for nothing.

    After seeing the status window and the ‘Affiliated Faction’ I showed her, she seemed to understand what I was trying to say and nodded her head.

    “Hmm… so because our faction isn’t pirates, we can’t receive quests from Marian?”

    “To be precise, we can ‘receive quests,’ but we can’t get event reward points.”

    At my explanation, Jessica tilted her head for a moment.

    Eventually showing another look of incomprehension, she spoke to me again.

    “Commander, couldn’t we just leave the monster faction and join the pirates?”

    “Didn’t I show you about that before? Once you leave a faction, getting back in is pretty brutal.”

    “Oh, doesn’t that only apply when rejoining the same faction?”

    “…I once thought the same thing.”

    In now distant memories.

    As Jessica said, thinking there wouldn’t be a problem joining ‘another faction,’ I left my faction without considering the consequences.

    Recalling my newbie days when my base was utterly violated by the fleet of the faction I’d angered.

    I shook my head, indicating it wasn’t worth discussing.

    Then without much thought, I jokingly said, wondering if I’d made a mistake choosing monsters.

    “It’s really too bad. If I’d known this would happen, I should have chosen pirates.”

    But as soon as I uttered those words, Jessica put a finger to her lips, gesturing for me to be careful with my words.

    “Commander, if Marian had heard what you just said… it would have become a serious problem.”

    “Huh?”

    “Just imagine if Marian heard that, or if you accidentally said it in front of her without realizing.”

    “…”

    “She might immediately tear out Oxianor’s eyeballs to prevent you from changing your choice.”

    “…Oh.”

    “And she might drag our entire base to the pirates’ den.”

    “Hmmmm.”

    “Then she might make you part of her collection, like that former Pirate King who’s now a human pig.”

    Hearing those words, I recalled the ‘setting’ of a bearded Pirate King who now lives as Marian’s personal pet with all his limbs amputated.

    I felt a chill run down my spine.

    ‘Our Marian was much more possessive than I thought.’

    Nevertheless.

    I thought about the time before our Marian evolved into busty Marian.

    When she was the true Pirate Empress, the pure and innocent(?) cliff-chested Marian of that era.

    I wondered if she could really be that vicious.

    Actually, thinking about it… Marian hasn’t done anything particularly crazy since coming here.

    Of course, she treats her subordinates quite harshly.

    But considering those subordinates are all incredibly rough ‘space pirates’.

    It’s natural behavior—she couldn’t reign as empress or control her subordinates without showing such strength.

    Apart from that, our Marian has always been sweet and affectionate in front of me, both then and now.

    I secretly wondered if this might be that famous thing where women take sides against each other, but.

    ‘What am I thinking about these crazy game characters?’

    Besides, Jessica as my Adjutant has no reason to engage in such stupid side-taking.

    And just as I faced this reality, as if on cue, a new message appeared before my eyes.

    <Pirate Empress-Marian’s friendship has surpassed its limits.>

    <However, considering the character setting of ‘Marian,’ this may not necessarily be a good thing.>

    —————————————-

    Seeing this VERY warning-like message, I searched through the information tips about the ‘Pirate Empress’ that I’d found in the gallery before.

    And there, I discovered Marian’s ‘detailed setting’ that I had forgotten.

    Title: Pirate Empress-Marian Detailed Setting 3.

    Author: Wiki Historian mk3

    Content: [Pirate Empress Full Setting]

    Pirate Empress Marian has her own ‘harem’ in her setting

    But this harem isn’t like what you’d typically imagine, some kind of pleasure garden

    It’s more like a farm where she captures those who resist or betray her, amputates them, and raises them as human pigs

    Oh, and rumor has it that it’s not just resisters and traitors, but innocent people too

    And according to the official setting, she does all sorts of things with these human pigs, which made me think WTF when I first read it

    To be honest, even if these golden pigs have no arms or legs, what if there are psychics among them

    Or what if they bite with their teeth, I wondered

    But apparently she scrambles the brains of psychics and pulls out all their teeth, which gave me chills

    Oh, and later someone at THE EYES drew some horny doujinshi about this, which made me like this setting

    And right after seeing that tip(?).

    I happened to make eye contact with Marian, who was waving happily at me from a distance.

    I deeply engraved in my heart the need to carefully choose my words and never again mention switching factions to pirates or anything similar.

    ==========

    Anyway, after having that general conversation, Jessica and I.

    Neatly put aside the topic of faction selection and began to ponder how to earn more points.

    But despite my efforts and Jessica’s help with the brainstorming.

    Unfortunately, we couldn’t come up with any suitable solution, and I felt frustration building inside me.

    And when the next day came, I could see something even more infuriating happening…

    ‘Oh please.’

    Looking at that damned post and the update message that appeared before my eyes.

    I had to feel as if the sky was falling down on me.
