Ch.83Full-Scale War

    # Yuri woke up about an hour after she had fainted.

Apparently having forgotten how she had boldly demanded my body only to collapse ten minutes later, she immediately went looking for coffee as soon as she left the room.

    “Do you have any coffee?”

Coffee in times like these? Well, we did have some, though it was well past its expiration date and tasted terrible. I gestured to Aurel.

Being in this position meant receiving all sorts of gifts, including expired coffee. Some vampires seemed to consider it a luxury item, but to me, it was just garbage. Anyway, Aurel followed my order and brought the coffee.

Yuri sat on a nearby sofa and gulped down the coffee with a satisfied expression. The stuff was at least three years past its expiration date, yet she drank it without hesitation. I watched her and asked:

“Is there anything else you need?”

Yuri fell silent at my question, appearing lost in thought. She looked at me once and then muttered regretfully:

“Would you give me whatever I ask for?”

That softly uttered question immediately triggered Hwang-gu and Aurel. Hostility rose in an instant. Hwang-gu’s fur stood on end as she blocked my path.

Yuri wasn’t oblivious. Noticing the tense atmosphere, she gave a small laugh, shook her head, and continued:

“I don’t need anything right now.”

    “Hmm…”

That’s a relief, then. I leaned against the sofa armrest and sighed.

    ***

Preparations for all-out war against the humans were complete. Each clan leader had recruited new vampires to bolster their forces, and the werewolves reported they were ready to move at any time.

Before ordering the vampires to march, one question came to mind.

Was it really necessary to completely destroy the human forces? The alliance between werewolves and vampires existed precisely because humans were both common enemies and food sources. If all human forces collapsed and the survivors were divided among our factions for breeding, there was no guarantee that human reproduction would proceed normally.

After pondering this issue, I reached a conclusion: attack the human forces but stop midway. If we inflicted enough damage to force them into a recovery period, they would likely remain hidden for at least ten years. Besides, after completing all these war preparations, we couldn’t just not fight.

The plan was to capture as many humans as possible during this battle and observe whether proper reproduction could be maintained. If we could control the human population through farming alone, we could eliminate the remaining humans later. Additionally, with the humans’ special powers now in vampire hands, humans wouldn’t pose much of a threat.

I nodded in admiration of my own thoughts.

    “Everyone, advance!”

The monster alliance—1,200 vampires, 1,500 werewolves, and my 300 subordinates, totaling 3,000—began its march toward Busan.

    ***

Given the speed of vampires and werewolves, the distance from Seoul to Busan wasn’t particularly far. Racing over mountains and roads faster than cars, we reached Busan in no time. However, the advancing vampires encountered an unexpected obstacle.

    A moat.

A moat in a 21st-century city—it was truly absurd. While it had no effect on the werewolves, the vampires couldn’t approach carelessly. The moat was extremely wide. They had overturned perfectly good roads and filled the space beneath with water, surrounding the entire city of Busan.

“What do we do now…?” Aurel asked, looking at the enormous moat.

Not just her, but other vampires were also waiting for my orders. What to do? Build a bridge, of course. We couldn’t just turn back after coming this far.

    “We’ll build a bridge!”

    “Woooah!”

    “Hwooooar!”

The vampires roared at my command. Of course, “bridge construction” wasn’t anything sophisticated. These game-addicted creatures hardly possessed architectural knowledge. The vampires scattered in all directions, gathering debris from buildings and abandoned cars, then throwing them into the moat.

    “Um, Charlotte…”

While watching the vampires’ bridge construction, Yuri approached from behind and tugged at my clothes. Her face was flushed, and she was breathing heavily. Seeing her condition, I immediately summoned Bbi-bbi.

Bbi-bbi emerged smoothly from beneath the shadows, holding crayons—apparently she’d been drawing when summoned. She looked around briefly, then rose from her spot and approached Yuri with familiarity.

Yuri and Bbi-bbi entered a nearby building. Exactly ten minutes later, Bbi-bbi emerged alone.

As the bridge construction proceeded steadily, the werewolves helping with the construction suddenly raised their heads. They began sniffing the air.

Hwang-gu, whom I was riding, was also sniffing.

    “Humans!”

At that moment, a werewolf shouted as if screaming. As soon as the words left his mouth, brilliant white flashes erupted from across the moat, followed by thunderous gunfire.

    Rat-tat-tat-tat!

The human attack had begun. I quickly placed the unconscious Yuri on Hwang-gu’s back and pulled the vampires back. Long-range combat heavily favored the humans. Unless the bridge was completed, exposing ourselves was a poor choice.

    “Everyone, take cover!”

The moat was excessively large—too wide to cross with a single jump. Even the werewolves had no choice but to retreat helplessly under the humans’ gunfire. Of course, Hwang-gu and I could leap across such a distance, but we couldn’t break through the human lines alone.

    Rat-tat-tat-tat!

The human presence grew with each passing moment. The barrage of bullets from all directions eventually destroyed the cover some vampires were hiding behind, taking them down.

After watching this for a while, I finally gave the retreat order.

    “Fall back!”

The werewolves and vampires immediately began pulling back. Only after escaping the humans’ firing range could we catch our breath. Though the engagement was brief, our side had suffered considerable casualties.

Riding Hwang-gu, I jumped around checking the condition of the wounded. Lost arms and legs were relatively minor concerns. The serious cases involved silver bullets that had pierced hearts or heads.

    Hissss!

Gray smoke rose as flesh blackened and burned. A male vampire with a pierced heart was dying with a hazy gaze. Despite pouring potions into him, he couldn’t regenerate easily. His basic regenerative abilities were insufficient to overcome the toxicity of silver bullets even with potions. He kept gasping painfully.

    “Huk… huk…”

He would die at this rate. Ignoring the stares around me, I moved my shadow toward him.

The shadow that started at my feet enveloped the dying vampire’s body and produced a large egg. What emerged from the egg was a snow-white girl. The naked girl lay limp, unable to regain consciousness.

    “Hueeeh…”

She had saved her life, but from now on, she would live as my child. I called the girl into my shadow and moved on to the next target.

The humans forming a defensive line at the moat didn’t change what we needed to do. We still had to cross that moat to enter Busan. The fortunate thing was that humans moved slower than we did.

I distributed the vampires and werewolves appropriately, spreading them out in all directions. They would continue throwing building debris and the like into the massive moat. Not immediately, but if we repeated this process, a bridge would eventually be completed.

As we dispersed to work, the humans also began dividing their forces into squad units. This was exactly what I had been aiming for.

I spread my wings and leaped high into the sky. My enormous, wide wings had grown even longer than before, spanning over 5 meters when fully extended. My target was a squad that had separated from the main force.

    Flap!

My powerful wingbeats propelled my body forward. While I couldn’t fly upward, I could perform a diving flight from above.

    Swoosh!

    “Th-there’s an enemy!”

    “Attack! It’s a flying vampire!”

The humans screamed upon spotting me and began firing bullets wildly. As their bullets flew rapidly toward me, grazing my cheek, I used my shadow to form a wide barrier.

    Thud! Rat-tat-tat!

Ordinary humans’ attacks couldn’t penetrate my barrier. I charged toward the humans using the most straightforward approach.

    Boom!

The moment my rapidly flying body landed on the ground, I immediately spread my shadow. While I could handle about 20 humans alone, I summoned my subordinates for quicker action. Small girls poured out like waves from the writhing shadow. It was an overwhelming force with no need for special attacks. The humans who had been screaming and showering bullets were instantly turned into minced meat.

There was no time to waste. The more actively I moved, the faster the bridge construction would progress. I used various doping potions, excluding the berserk potion, and attacked humans who had separated from the main force.

After dealing with about 100 humans, the human main force began to move. I immediately leaped high into the sky and crossed the moat. By continuing to harass them and evading their main force, we finally managed to complete one bridge.

Before we could cross the bridge over the moat, the humans turned their main force back to their headquarters. The real war was about to begin. I led the vampires and werewolves across the moat and rushed toward Busan.

    “Chaaaarge!”

A reckless frontal assault was a crude method, but vampires and werewolves had few other options. Mines exploded constantly, and bullets rained from all directions, but we didn’t stop our charge.
