    Ch.83Chapter 83

The student with murky silver hair, Beirud, was wearing a red-tinged school uniform and spending time in a daze at the dormitory. He was on the verge of going insane because of the enormous amount of money he had lost.

With his sanity already half gone, he could no longer think rationally.

He enjoyed attending the Monday morning lectures about Demon Gods. Since he had vowed to kill one someday, he thought he should learn about his enemy in detail.

But having a Demon God there irritated him.

It disgusted him to see everyone fawning over how cute the Demon God was. His face wrinkled with contempt.

How many people were dying because of Demon Gods? How many buildings had been destroyed? He couldn’t understand why they kept a creature who deserved death, even making wordplay by calling it “equipment.”

Was the Professor allowed to do that? Why would someone with the title “Demon God Slayer” do such a thing?

Beirud couldn’t understand it. He hated that the Demon God knew about him, and he hated even having it come near him. Meanwhile, as his own affairs weren’t going well, his hatred grew like a balloon.

And after losing all his assets, it finally burst with a bang.

    “I’ll kill it…”

    He muttered under his breath.

He carried a kitchen knife in his bag.

He ground his teeth with the thought of killing.

But his target was a Demon God, and the “Demon God Slayer” Professor Yuria was always by its side. Given who he was up against, he didn’t think he could get past them to stab the Demon God.

At the very least, he hoped the Demon God would be far enough away from others that he could kill it properly.

He figured that with such a small body, the Demon God wouldn’t be that strong in a physical fight, so if given the chance, he believed he had a good chance.

He needed to go to the Academy, but he could skip up to four classes per subject without penalty. He thought about skipping entirely to check where the Demon God went.

When Ourr headed to the Research Building, he assumed she was going to where Yuria was and stopped following. When Ourr met with friends separately, he kept his distance and checked where she went.

A few days later, around the beginning of June, Beirud heard a rumor.

To be precise, it was a topic that came up in conversation among second-year students, but that was fine with him. As long as the rumor that Ourr had joined a study group and rented a separate club room was true, that was enough.

    He let out a chuckle.

Now he just needed to act.

He was confident he could kill the Demon God Ourr if she wasn’t with Yuria.

Normally, Demon Gods have an aura that harms people who come close, but Ourr was so young she didn’t have one. Thinking she had no ability to respond, he looked for an opening.

    He spent a day watching.

After school ended, he lurked near the place, waiting for Ourr to enter and confirming when she left. After slowly checking her pattern, he picked a date.

    The first Friday of June.

He took the newspaper-wrapped knife from his bag and tucked it into his chest. When he placed his hand on his chest, he felt the hard object.

Now that he was about to do it, he felt worried. But he gave himself absolution by thinking it was okay because a Demon God wasn’t human.

Even if it felt like killing a person, the target was a Demon God. He recalled his past memories, telling himself it wouldn’t count as murder.

He had searched through laws multiple times to see if he would be punished for killing Ourr, but found nothing, so he decided to proceed with peace of mind.

    “Phew.”

He took a small deep breath.

At 6 o’clock, Ourr would come out first…

“Ugh! I’m going now. It’s too hard. My head hurts…”

The small Demon God, clutching her head as if dizzy, opened the door. Dark blue hair and golden eyes visible between poorly maintained locks. This was the Demon God.

He wanted to pull out the knife and stab her, but he didn’t.

Ourr was startled when she saw Beirud and stepped back, but he smiled and spoke to her.

“Ah… sorry about before. I heard this is a study group, and I was wondering if I could join.”

“You want to join… the study group?”

Ourr raised her guard at Beirud’s sudden statement. But seeing him holding his bag properly and greeting her awkwardly, she relaxed a bit.

When they met before, there had been hostility, but now it seemed to have subsided somewhat.

    “Ourr, what’s going on?”

“Oh, um. There’s a second-year student who wants to join our study group. I’m going to see the Professor. Everyone, get home safely!”

Ourr gave a quick explanation to her friends and then spoke to Beirud.

“Then we need to go see the Professor.”

    She was defenseless.

    “What’s your name?”

So defenseless that she wouldn’t react even if someone stabbed her from behind.

    “Beirud.”

“Okay… since everyone’s heading home, I’ll take you to the Professor.”

    Ourr walked confidently.

Sera and Aria said they would come along, but Ourr, hoping the others wouldn’t get home late, guided Beirud alone.

She was in a state where she couldn’t imagine someone would directly harm her. It was like how people don’t walk down the street fearing they might be stabbed.

Ourr was a Demon God, but she had originally lived a human life, so she was unconsciously a bit dull.

They left the building and turned slightly into a corner. It was the path to the Research Building where Yuria was.

Beirud seized that moment and put his hand in his chest pocket. Even then, Ourr thought nothing of it. She assumed people usually kept their phones in inner pockets.

By the time she realized, it was already too late.

    “Oh.”

A small sound escaped from Ourr.

    “……”

Her mouth, shaped in an “oh,” froze. As the knife dug deeper into Ourr’s back, she couldn’t say anything and just writhed in pain.

She struggled in bewilderment. Beirud grabbed her body and stabbed with the knife.

He stabbed deeply and pulled it out again.

After stabbing once or twice, he felt the clothes were getting in the way, so he pinned her to the ground and stabbed her neck. When he pressed the handle against her neck, she died instantly.

It felt like killing a person.

The sensation of piercing skin was unpleasant in many ways. Blood splattered. Even that was so unpleasant that Beirud frowned.

Sitting on top of Ourr, he tried to get up with the knife. After checking if anyone was around, he was about to flee when Ourr twitched.

He thought she had died lifelessly, but she was twitching and getting up, which was disconcerting. Beirud, seemingly panicked, sat on her body again.

He grabbed her arms so she couldn’t move and stabbed her neck again with the knife.

Beirud was so excited that he couldn’t think of anything else.

    “Ugh.”

Her gasping moan was filled with the sound of blood spewing.

    “Die, die…”

It’s because of you. It’s because creatures like you are alive that I, people like me, live in hell. So why are you smiling and going to school?

    He cursed.

    She writhed as she died.

    Ourr’s eyes weakened lifelessly.

Her carotid artery burst, blood gushing like a fountain, and the secluded path leading to the Academy’s Research Building was stained with blood.

Panting, Beirud, still holding the knife, slashed Ourr’s neck once more as if disgusted. There was a sloshing sound, but it was fine. After all, the target was a Demon God, and he thought he would accept punishment for damaging “equipment” since he killed her out of extreme anger.

It felt like his adrenaline was at maximum.

Beirud noticed something strange about the young Ourr.

    She seems younger than before.

The moment he realized this, a change occurred in Ourr’s body. A large flow of Mana created a whirlwind centered on Ourr’s body. It was a powerful wave strong enough to push away someone like Beirud.

    “Kuhuk, kek…”

There wasn’t even time to say “what’s going on.”

Beirud, who had backed away while choking, was in a state of confusion, unable to properly recognize what this sensation was.

This was a feeling only those who had experienced it would know.

When touched by a Demon God’s aura, one can feel their life force being drained or reduced, but Beirud only perceived it as an uncomfortable, unpleasant sensation.

Beirud raised his head while lying face down. Someone was standing firmly in front of him with a “tak” sound. Dark blue hair reached down to the thighs. He looked up. The person seemed taller than before, as he had to raise his head quite high to see the face while lying down.

After wondering why she was still moving despite being killed, another question overlapped.

    Who is this?

    “Ah, ah.”

    Beirud trembled.

A different being was standing in front of him.

Golden eyes, now cold, were looking down at him. Eyes like those looking at an insect.

Compared to before, this was a completely different being. Height, body shape, and atmosphere overwhelmed him. An aura that wasn’t there before now enveloped Beirud.

    “—.”

Without saying anything, the Demon God touched her neck.

The neck that should have been mangled from the knife was intact. There were no wounds or scars.

Just as Beirud was thinking “impossible,” the Demon God’s body bent down. She tried to take the knife from Beirud’s hand.

Beirud clenched his fist, thinking he couldn’t give it up, but the Demon God’s grip was strong enough to crush his hand.

    “Kugh…!”

Clang. The knife fell to the ground. His forcibly opened hand dropped the knife, and the Demon God picked it up. Then she took that knife and stabbed Beirud’s body.

    “Kek, kek…”

Stabbed in the side, Beirud couldn’t get up and breathed heavily. The only fortunate thing was that the Demon God didn’t pull out the knife or stab him again.

The Demon God, seemingly losing interest in the man writhing on the ground, turned away.
