Ch.7272 – The Return of the Terrifying Fifth Period

<72 – The Return of the Terrifying Fifth Period>
Wednesday 5th period (17:00 ~ 19:00).
The return of Professor Sadaco’s lecture.
In the <Adventurer’s Night Activities> classroom, a coffin was leaning against an ominous-looking large stone wall.
Jeo-jeo-jeok. Jeo-jeo-jeok.
Professor Sadaco, with her long hair hanging down and making that spine-chilling laugh that never failed to creep people out, hesitantly welcomed Titosoga and Zhang who had arrived at the lecture hall.
“Welcome…”
“Oh, where’s Oknodie?”
“I’m here!”
“Hieek! Why are you jumping out of a coffin?!”
“I wanted to surprise you?”
[You hid in a coffin for 3 minutes and surprised your friend.]
[Hiding Experience +3]
[Fear Inducement Experience +3]
To be precise, I came to the lecture hall early and hid for 3 minutes because I wanted to gain this experience.
When I asked if I could hide in the coffin, the professor looked at me with eyes that seemed to say, “Oh my, do you have the qualities of a necromancer?” which was a bit concerning, but I figured it would be fine.
Professor Sadaco doesn’t raise favorite disciples anyway!
“Excuse me, Professor Sadaco. I’ve been wondering about something. Why is there such a huge stone wall set up back there? It wasn’t there during the last lecture.”
“I brought in terrain that the third-year students made during their practice session for today’s lecture.”
“Third-year seniors? I have a bad feeling about this.”
Zhang had seen what lectures involving “seniors” were like in the <Ranged Weapon Mastery> class that I also took.
In the thief arts team test she participated in, the seniors from <Zeneger’s Tactics> had placed bets on them.
I don’t know the outcome, but after experiencing seniors who treated her like a horse at a racetrack, it’s understandable that she’s worried about what the inside of the practice terrain prepared for first-years might look like.
“You’ve figured it out quite well in just three days since enrollment. That third-years are all garbage.”
“Professor, why did you set up the coffin?”
“I brought it to release the corpse that was inside into that place.”
“…”
“Living dead. Minions of the unholy night. A field where the undecaying ones wander.”
Jeo-jeo-jeok.
Professor Sadaco made a sound that made me fear what kind of smile she might be making under all that hair.
“I, I, I want to drop this class…”
Titosoga was so frightened her legs were trembling.
She looked so pitiful, clutching the lighting stand and shaking.
“That’s too bad. I was going to give 10% of the practical evaluation score just for going in and coming out.”
“Ten percent?!”
“If you reach the exit by yourself within the 30-minute time limit, you’ll also get a maximum escape success reward of 500 points.”
“Five hundred points!!”
“I was going to allow carrying a light for timid students, but if you don’t want to, I can’t help it.”
“I’ll go first!”
Perhaps realizing the importance of points.
Titosoga raised her hand enthusiastically.
“You can go first.”
“Titosoga can do as she wants!”
Zhang and I waved our hands to send Titosoga off.
Titosoga entered the entrance.
As we waited, imagining Titosoga timidly wandering around with the sound of the light being turned off, we heard a piercing scream.
“Kyaaaak!!”
“…Is she dead? With a scream like that?”
A scream so realistic that even Zhang, an assassin, was spooked.
Zhang rubbed her arms with her palms as goosebumps rose on her skin.
“Don’t come! Don’t come don’t come don’t comeee! Kyaaaaaaak!!!”
A high-pitched scream that seemed to tear through the air.
With strength in her abdomen and relaxed throat, the sound of her strained vocal cords would make her a great singer.
A three-stage high note that climbed from B5 in the third octave through D6 in the fourth octave to C7 in the fifth octave echoed deeply and far beyond the stone wall before suddenly cutting off.
“I want to go back.”
Zhang’s desire to earn credits and points had completely vanished.
Despite being an assassin with evil tendencies, she looked as pitiful as a dog being dragged to a slaughterhouse.
“Time’s up.”
Professor Sadaco lightly held an orb in her hand and projected her will into it, causing the sphere to emit a faint black light.
After a moment, undead creatures emerged with unnatural, jerky steps.
Pale zombies, well-preserved with embalming fluid to maintain their living appearance, carried Titosoga and the lighting stand together like hospital patients with IV drips.
“Grandpa… save me…”
Ignoring Titosoga who was talking in her sleep, Sadaco turned to us.
“Now, who wants to go next?”
“What the heck, I’ll go first!”
It might look a bit scary, but once you gain experience, it’s not such a frightening lecture.
“Alright… what difficulty would you like?”
“The highest!”
Sadaco pulled the lever on the coffin attached to the stone wall all the way to the end with a satisfied expression.
Bang-clang-thud-boom-rumble-thud-thud
Like drinks pouring out of a vending machine when you press a button, the sound of corpses tumbling from the coffin into the passage beyond the stone wall could be heard.
“Go in.”
“Yes~”
“O-Oknodie? Are you crazy?!”
With Zhang’s shocked farewell behind me, I entered the stone wall entrance.
Inside was pitch black.
Meaningless groans of “uuugh-” and “krrrgh-” from the dead could be heard everywhere.
I couldn’t see anything ahead, but if I got down on my knees and crawled around, I could get a feel for the place.
Zombie 5m ahead.
At the next intersection, judging by the faint sound, there’s a zombie behind the blocked wall to the right.
Overall assessment: an easy class to ace!
[You have successfully escaped the highest difficulty stone wall dark room zombie maze within 10 minutes.]
[Hearing Experience +15]
[Detection Experience +10]
[Night Activity Experience +5]
[You have perfectly escaped the highest difficulty stone wall dark room zombie maze without encountering or exchanging attacks with a single zombie.]
[You acquire the title <Night Visitor>.]
[You receive 500 points as a reward for achieving the challenge <Highest Difficulty Cleared>.]
*Night Visitor*: You passed through the trials of the night naturally without causing friction with the minions of the unholy night.
-Title Equip Effect: Increased undead detection ability
-Title Possession Effect: Increased detection ability in darkness
Compared to struggling against overpowered characters in the Ranged Weapon Mastery class, this one gives much greater results with less effort, like doing something that suits my aptitude.
After all, practical assignments that can be easily completed with minimal effort are the best in the world!
“Was it surprisingly doable?”
“Yeah. It’s super easy.”
“…Okay. Then I’ll try too.”
Zhang approached the stone wall entrance with trembling legs.
“Go in.”
“Professor? Aren’t you going to ask about difficulty selection?”
“There’s no reason to ask.”
“You don’t have the biased thinking that an assassin should naturally challenge the highest difficulty, right?”
“I don’t think that way.”
Professor Sadaco kindly answered the student who was speaking informally to her.
“Humans are all pathetic beings who will all turn into cold corpses when they die…”
“What class they are, what their aptitude is.”
“Whatever they did in life doesn’t matter once they’re dead.”
At the professor’s characteristic “jeo-jeo-jeok” laugh, Zhang crossed her legs as if she might wet herself.
It’s too scary to say you don’t have biased thinking because we’re all going to die anyway!
“Isn’t appropriate discrimination a basic human quality needed for humanity?”
“Are you done talking nonsense?”
“…Can’t I go to the bathroom first?”
“You had plenty of time to go to the bathroom. Hurry up and go in. Everyone is waiting for you inside.”
“W-wait. Difficulty. What about difficulty adjustment? You still haven’t adjusted it, right?”
Maybe if the difficulty was lowered, it might be manageable.
Professor Sadaco mercilessly crushed Zhang’s hope.
“Closing the lever doesn’t make the corpses go back in. Once the difficulty is raised, it doesn’t go down.”
“…Oknodieeee!”
“I gave you the chance to go first!”
In the end, Zhang entered the highest difficulty stone wall.
* *
And five minutes later, she came running out screaming after slicing through eight zombie corpses.
“It was scary!”
“Hiyaak!! You running toward me with blood on your face is even scarier!”
Titosoga, who had regained consciousness, screamed at the sight of Zhang covered in the blood of the dead.
“Looks like you had a lot of fun.”
“Evil professor! It wasn’t fun at all!”
“The children are saying something too. They say they really enjoyed breathing together with young ones with fresh skin in a cramped space after such a long time.”
“…That’s creepy.”
“They say they’ll definitely kill you and eat your entrails next time, so please stay healthy until then.”
Zhang made up her mind.
She would absolutely not attend this terrible class from next week.
“…Professor… What was the purpose of this class in the end? I only remember screaming and fainting…”
Fear instills manners.
Titosoga, who had been speaking as informally as Zhang, carefully asked with a completely stiff face.
Professor Sadaco answered Titosoga’s indignant question as if it were obvious.
“You learned about adventurer’s night activities, didn’t you?”
“We just went into a stone wall maze crawling with zombies.”
“And in the fear of being caught and killed, you naturally learned how to survive in the darkness.”
Titosoga was so dumbfounded she could only open and close her mouth.
Professor Sadaco’s cold hand patted her shoulder.
“Don’t worry… You’re still first-years. I won’t lock you in a coffin for two days or bury you in a cemetery to increase your darkness affinity just because you failed the practical.”
“Do second-years get treated that harshly?!”
Professor Sadaco didn’t answer.
This is scary even for me.
But if you do well, you won’t get locked in a coffin, right?
“I spent 3 minutes in a coffin and it was nothing!”
“How can that compare to two days? And what kind of training did you receive to be able to say that with such a fresh face?”
Even Zhang the assassin looked disgusted.
Why are they acting like this?
If you’re scared, just don’t fail the practical.
“The lecture is over. Good thing you didn’t eat dinner before coming, right?”
Professor Sadaco nodded with satisfaction as she looked at my face, which hadn’t lost its color unlike the dazed Zhang and Titosoga.
“I know. That there was room to spare at your level.”
“I’m fine with the current level!”
“No. Lectures should be prepared according to each student’s level.”
“I’d prefer if you set the standard based on the inferior students.”
Professor Sadaco ignored Titosoga’s mumbling.
“You can look forward to it. After the next lecture, you’ll definitely gain confidence in night activities.”
I had a vague feeling.
Next week, I’ll be the only one attending this class!
