Ch.6868. Mischief
by fnovelpia
“Wow, wow…!”
“H-hey!”
A running visitor and the Emissary of the Sun chasing after her.
The essence of these two beings was right there, and to see them in their raw form—
A somewhat young-looking woman and a maid bustling about to take care of her.
The Regalium Kingdom is peaceful.
In this district filled with human warmth, every element was an exciting experience for the visitor, and the merchants in the area found this lively beauty truly enchanting.
“The young lady’s got such good energy! Miss! Would you like one of these?!”
Unable to resist, the street vendor handed a skewer to the excited woman.
“Such impropriety…! Visit— I mean, Lily! You shouldn’t eat such things…!”
“Why not? It smells amazing! It looks delicious!”
“What? The maid lady is being too harsh. Do you know how clean and good the meat I use is?!”
“That’s right! All that effort going to the slaughterhouse every dawn, washing everything—how can you talk like that?!”
“Well, that’s…”
The Emissary of the Sun was dumbfounded.
This was her first time being so thoroughly immersed among humans.
“Just look after the kid for a bit.”
Looking at the absolute being who had said those words before leaving, she should have grabbed onto his pant leg then and there, begging him not to abandon her in this place.
“Miss! You should say thank you!”
“Thank you?”
“Oh, how adorable.”
The street vendor saw them off with a satisfied expression.
Somehow, the Emissary of the Sun now had a skewer in her hand as well.
“W-when did this…”
Goodness, to receive kindness from a human who wasn’t even a believer.
This was an unfamiliar experience for both the visitor, who had no believers, and the Emissary of the Sun.
“Ugh…”
The Emissary of the Sun looked at the meat skewer in her hand with disgust.
A revolting food, terribly cooked in human fashion, not in its raw natural form.
*Sniff sniff*
When she smelled it, an even more nauseating feeling rose up.
Eventually, the Emissary of the Sun had no choice but to keep the meat skewer far away while suppressing her urge to vomit.
And at the end of her averted gaze, she discovered the visitor already chewing on the meat.
“Oh no…!”
“Mmm, delicious!”
“No no no!”
Seeing such an innocent and delicate appearance, the Emissary of the Sun scolded the visitor as if dealing with a child before she realized it.
But unaware of her true feelings, the visitor swallowed the meat.
“Wow… this is so delicious…!”
“T-that horrible form of corpse is delicious?! This is not right for a constellation…!”
“Aren’t you going to eat yours?”
At those words, the Emissary of the Sun unconsciously looked at what she was holding.
Then she shook her head vigorously to express her refusal.
“I cannot eat such things…!”
“Then give it to me.”
The visitor gladly accepted it, snatching the skewer and eating it with relish.
Watching this sequence of events, the Emissary of the Sun found the visitor’s eccentricity burdensome, yet couldn’t help feeling curious.
“Visitor, does this place not bother you at all…?”
“Hmm?”
“Like feeling angry, or uncomfortable somewhere…”
“Angry? Nothing like that. The people here are super kind and nice!”
The visitor responded cheerfully, as if such thoughts had never crossed her mind, and walked toward her next destination.
“…”
The Emissary of the Sun stared blankly at her back before hurriedly following after her.
“Hmm, she’s watching well.”
And a constellation observing this scene.
Ron ate snacks given by his maid (constellation) at his base while watching the visitor’s socialization(?) experiment.
As expected, she showed no hostility toward other beings.
The problem was truly that her very existence itself was harmful.
But now, with the seal and his direct attention to controlling divine power, the visitor was simply living the life of an ordinary constellation.
“Black Sun: …Why are you going to such lengths?”
“Why, again why.”
Ron looked at the name in the status window with an annoyed expression.
Lately, there was a protesting constellation who questioned everything he did and often expressed opposition.
His name was Black Sun.
“Black Sun: If she suddenly goes berserk—”
“If I worry about every risk factor, I can’t get anything done.”
Ron grinned.
“Black Sun: …Done?”
“Yes.”
Ron wanted to see another world through her.
In fact, it was an idea that came to him the moment he first met her.
“I got great inspiration from the last incident.”
It was because of a constellation’s plot to snatch away his beloved believer.
‘Eternal Slumberer.’
How did that constellation try to make advances on his believer?
“Black Sun: W-why suddenly bring up that constellation…”
“Constellations really love events.”
They’re suspiciously sincere about their emotions and can’t stand seeing someone above them.
This was the world of constellations.
“Black Sun: Events…?”
Black Sun seemed to be thinking about something, then suddenly startled.
“Black Sun: Wait, don’t tell me.”
“I’m still hungry.”
The world is vast and full of trash who think too highly of themselves.
Except for the five constellations who recently became Ron’s friends.
But there are still many others, aren’t there?
“Warning! An unknown constellation is approaching the ‘Emissary of the Sun’.”
“That’s right.”
Like an angler feeling a strong bite, Ron smiled.
#
“Are you enjoying your little play date with the absolute being?”
While strolling through the marketplace of the Regalium Kingdom, an unfamiliar voice echoed in the Emissary of the Sun’s ears.
She didn’t need to think deeply to understand.
This presence belonged to a constellation.
“…Who—”
“This place is full of the absolute being’s eyes. If you wish to speak with me, follow my guidance.”
“Do I need to listen to you?”
“That’s up to you now. But do you know something? You no longer look like a constellation.”
“…!”
The being had touched the Emissary of the Sun’s most painful spot.
It had been a long time since she had set aside her dignity as a constellation.
“If you truly have any constellation authority and dignity left, you would speak with me.”
The being lightly provoked the Emissary of the Sun.
The Emissary of the Sun looked at her own appearance.
An unwanted divine manifestation, forced to wear shameful clothing, and even changing her way of speaking.
“…”
A shameful reality she never wanted her believers to see.
After contemplating briefly, the Emissary of the Sun began heading somewhere with the visitor.
Not realizing that the absolute being was already watching all of this.
“Good.”
In a dark alley with few people around.
A figure stood before them.
‘A believer.’
A robe covering the entire body, and the eerie, disgusting divine power rising from within confirmed his identity.
Someone directly serving a constellation’s command, or perhaps an even greater being was watching them.
“You’ve come.”
A pressure that would instantly kill an ordinary human.
But among constellations, this was merely considered a simple greeting.
“So, what did you want to say—”
*Crack*
An ominous sound came from the head hidden under the robe, then it bent in a grotesque manner.
“Visitor.”
“…”
“You must understand what it means to manifest an outer god in this world.”
She is dangerous by her very existence.
The constellations who once nearly got devoured by an outer god know her danger better than anyone.
“It’s not too late. Join us.”
The unknown constellation spoke through its believer.
“If you’re trying to persuade me, at least reveal your identity first.”
“That’s impossible. You know well there are eyes everywhere. However—”
The figure raised a finger, pointing at the Emissary of the Sun.
“If you choose to join us, we will save you from his clutches.”
Clutches.
Whoever this was, confidence overflowed in their voice.
Clearly the voice of someone strongly convinced they could accomplish what they claimed.
“Pfft.”
But the Emissary of the Sun could no longer hold back.
“Who’s saving whom?”
She knew.
No, she was able to know.
Just how absurdly terrifying the abilities of the so-called absolute being were.
They were beings playing another game above the constellations.
“…What?”
“Who dares to help whom, to save whom…”
“Hahah! Hahaha!”
“Why are you laughing?”
The visitor beside her asked.
“I’m sorry…”
The Emissary of the Sun wiped away tears from laughing and answered.
“You said something so stupid with such seriousness that I couldn’t help but laugh.”
“…! Are you mocking me now?!”
“Of course.”
To the Emissary of the Sun’s ears, those words could only sound ridiculous.
Opposing the absolute being.
The very act itself was so stupid, as she had personally realized.
They had been dancing in his palm from the beginning.
Chasing thin threads of hope, only to be toyed with and mocked according to his whims.
That was the absolute being’s game.
“Keep your delusional dreams to yourselves and leave us alone.”
“Someone is watching you…”
A gaze that mere mortals couldn’t perceive was watching them.
“Is that person weird?”
When the visitor asked that, the Emissary of the Sun immediately nodded and said,
“Yes, yes, very weird.”
The two people, or rather two constellations, immediately left the alley.
The sunlight shining down today felt particularly warm and pleasant.
