Chapter Index

    And apart from those “tendencies” being different from expectations.

    What was truly fortunate was that the “tip post” written by some veteran player wasn’t actually wrong.

    Title: Hey, the faction characteristics summary is still accurate

    Author: Jack O’Lantern

    Content: [Image of a majestic fleet]

    After seeing all those changes, I was seriously worried

    But after trying it out, only the events and quests changed in unusual ways

    Fleet characteristics and other mentioned aspects haven’t changed much, or didn’t change at all

    So everyone can just relax and enjoy the game

    Just give up if what you expected doesn’t appear

    Comments:

    -[That’s a relief]

    -[So we can deal with fleets the same way as before?]

    -[Probably?]

    After confirming these gallery reactions, I felt it was time to finally make my choice.

    Though there was a minor issue of me, a true newbie, wandering around not knowing where the “selection screen” was.

    After searching through my status window and command console, I finally found the newly created “Faction Selection” window in one corner.

    —————————————-

    <Please select a faction!>

    <1. Pirate Alliance>

    <A group seeking to plunder everything in space under the command of the Pirate Empress.>

    <Advantageous for “Superhuman Training and Development” when joining this faction>

    <2. Xenovia Empire>

    <A space empire composed of various alien species including space elves, seeking to bestow “mercy” upon inferior species.>

    <Advantageous for “Technology Enhancement” when joining this faction>

    <3. Space Monsters>

    <A group of intelligent alien monsters that came from the far reaches of outer space.>

    <Advantageous for “Fleet and Troop Production” when joining this faction>

    <4. Earth Federation>

    <The homeland of Commanders, a nation formed primarily of “humans”.>

    <Advantageous in all areas except those that are specialties of other factions>

    <Warning!>

    <If you leave your chosen faction, you must wait at least 1 month before joining another faction!>

    —————————————-

    And just as the gallery had said, it wasn’t much different from what the veteran player had written.

    I nodded and decided to go with my original plan to choose our Space Monster uncles.

    Of course, during this process of making this predetermined choice…

    “Pooooo…”

    “Oh my, why are you acting like this?”

    Our Pirate Empress Marian puffed her cheeks and expressed her dissatisfaction.

    “Everyone knows that the Pirate Empress is essentially a pirate anyway.”

    “Well, that’s true.”

    “The fact that I’m not joining the pirate faction despite you being here… wouldn’t that mean I trust you that much?”

    “…Hehe, w-well if you put it that way, I can’t argue! Trust me by all means!”

    Although I had already used this trick once before.

    If you just give her intense head pats and affection, you can suppress the Pirate Empress’s volcanic anger(?).

    Anyway, after subduing the complaints that had quietly emerged that way.

    I decided to finish the faction selection I had started earlier.

    —————————————-

    <3. Space Monsters><Select

    <A group of intelligent alien monsters that came from the far reaches of outer space.>

    <Advantageous for “Fleet and Troop Production” when joining this faction>

    —————————————-

    —————————————-

    <You have selected the faction: Space Monsters.>

    <A communication link with the faction will arrive soon.>

    —————————————-

    And with the message that appeared right after selecting the faction.

    -Beep beep beep! Beep beep beep!

    “Commander, a massive object… no, a life form has been detected from the northeast coordinates!”

    “Ah, is it coming already?”

    Hearing Jessica’s urgent report, I tilted my head to look through the reinforced glass installed in the command center.

    A massive… space chrysalis?

    Living satellite?

    Anyway, seeing this bizarre biological structure that was difficult to describe flying toward us from the vast space.

    I stopped Jessica, who was naturally about to activate the base’s air defense network.

    “Jessica, cease fire.”

    “What?”

    “That’s friendly.”

    “Ah, it looks so strange that I instinctively…”

    ==========

    Interestingly, the space chrysalis flying toward us, once we directed our anti-air radar away from it.

    As if it realized we did that on purpose.

    It gradually slowed down as it approached… and shortly after.

    “That enormous… chrysalis is about to approach our base, Commander.”

    “Let it be. It’s going to partially parasitize our base’s research lab and communication facilities.”

    “Ugh… parasitize?”

    As if to prove my words true.

    The space chrysalis that flew from the distant Space Monster mothership nest, upon reaching the newly built biology research lab and dimensional signal collection communication amplification system module.

    It attached itself as gently and with as little impact as possible, and then tentacles and mucus emerged from between its hard shell, gradually infiltrating various parts of the base.

    Its appearance resembled the Necromorphs from Dead Space or enemies from the classic game Control, causing Jessica to wrinkle her face in disgust.

    “Ugh, it really looks grotesque.”

    “Hmm, indeed.”

    To be honest, it’s only because the system confirms they’re in an absolute friendly relationship with us.

    Otherwise, I would have immediately deployed troops and fleets toward those modules.

    The visual was disturbing enough to make anyone want to destroy the modules and the entire base.

    But as mentioned above.

    As proven by many existing users.

    Once they’re on ‘the same team,’ Space Monsters are actually quite gentlemanly fellows.

    —————————————-

    <Notice>

    <The neural network connection with the Hive Mind has merged with your base.>

    <By joining the Space Monster faction, the following buffs are applied to the Commander’s base:>

    <‘Monster Nest’ module unlocked>

    <While the ‘Monster Nest’ exists, ‘Biology Research Lab’ efficiency +15%>

    <Additional research points available when developing biology-related technologies>

    <Ability to produce ‘Monster Fleet’ and apply ‘Biological Ship System’ to existing fleets>

    —————————————-

    After seeing the timely notification, Jessica and I immediately headed to the ‘Biology Research Lab’ where the Space Monster representative would be waiting.

    ==========

    And the person we met as soon as we arrived was, as expected.

    “Oh my♡ Commander? I never thought you’d bring me such valuable samples♡”

    Griyanar, whom I had permanently assigned to the biology research lab for daily quests and leveling up, greeted me with a face full of smiles.

    Of course, knowing her character settings, I immediately issued a warning to prevent any possible incidents in response to that evil smile.

    “Just in case, let me make this clear – they came to us in friendship, Griyanar.”

    “I know, so don’t worry too much? I don’t experiment on allies recklessly.”

    Despite saying that, Griyanar herself was licking her lips while looking at.

    The glossy tentacles with mixed dark red and purple colors that were settling throughout the biology research lab, which was truly concerning.

    But those concerns about the tentacles… shortly after.

    The living wall covered only with flesh split open, and from within appeared an eyeball monster…

    No.

    <<“You must be the ‘Commander’ who has decided to join our faction.”>>

    Due to the appearance of the Space Monster representative, who communicated directly to my brain like telepathy.

    My concerns instantly vanished from my mind.
