Ch.6565. Cybernetic Nest
by fnovelpia
Clang clang!
In a space where flashes of light glimmered, two shadows, too fast for the eye to follow, clashed.
The two shadows that collided in one spot changed locations and clashed again, repeating this pattern over and over.
Eventually, the sound of collision stopped, and one of the shadows was knocked down.
“Ugh!”
Amon rolled across the training ground.
The person who had put him in this state asked with concern.
“Are you alright?”
Amon nodded.
“I’m fine, Director.”
“Where are you hurt?”
“I’m completely fine.”
Amon said this while hiding his scrapes.
But the person called Director didn’t miss it.
He approached Amon, making a fuss.
“If I leave something like this, I’ll get fired by the Executive later!”
Seeing the Director’s reaction, Amon gave a bitter smile and extended his arm.
It wasn’t entirely impossible.
In the past, when the Security Director had failed to control his strength and cracked Amon’s arm, he had heard some concerning words from Kathy.
– “Hmm… I’m a bit worried. Maybe I should replace him now.”
Kathy said she was joking, but to Amon’s ears, it contained about 20 percent seriousness.
The Director, who stood at 3 meters tall, opened the emergency kit with incongruously delicate movements.
He took out an expensive healing agent and sprayed it on Amon.
Some might dislike seeing the Security Director fawning over Amon like this, especially those who admired the Director, but it couldn’t be helped.
Amon was someone the future president of the Megacorp looked at with honey-dripping eyes.
To put on airs in front of such a person?
That would mean not only the end of one’s social life but also a death wish.
Of course, someone of Security Director rank would be confident in their personal strength, but no matter how strong an individual was, they couldn’t live comfortably after being marked by an entire Megacorp.
It was only natural for the newly appointed Security Director to fuss over Amon.
For reference, for the same reason, he couldn’t act superior to the Buffalo Tanker and the Mute Sniper, who were technically his subordinates.
They were uncomfortable with this at first, but as the Security Director’s attitude remained unchanged, they eventually got used to it.
Only after Amon’s wounds healed did the Security Director breathe a sigh of relief.
“Phew. Ah, right. Regarding the results of the recent battle, you were excellent. You’ve almost caught up to my speed now. I couldn’t find any technical issues to point out.”
In this area, Amon had reached a level comparable to the Security Director.
At this point, he could hold his own against the Director.
If the Director let his guard down, Amon could even put a knife to his throat.
Of course, in a real battle, the Director would bring out his trump cards and become stronger than during practice, but by the same logic, Amon would also use his specialized equipment, so ultimately, Amon had reached a level where he could pose a threat to the Director.
However, there was one thing the Director found regrettable.
“Your strength…”
The Security Director glanced at Amon.
He had been about to recommend a procedure but held back.
He knew Amon had an unusual aversion to procedures.
It was incomprehensible to him.
This wasn’t the medieval era, and strengthening one’s body through training alone was highly inefficient.
Of course, each procedure had its weaknesses, but these could be compensated for with better procedures or complementary ones.
The vulnerability of cybernetic procedures to EMP could be compensated for with magical inscriptions, and the allergic side effects of genetic procedures could be mitigated with allergy suppression devices.
Finally, the drawback of magical inscriptions consuming too much magical power and having poor sustainability could be compensated for with mana capsules.
The Security Director himself had replaced his entire body with procedures.
Amon’s approach was difficult to understand.
But he had to respect it.
‘If that’s what he wants, who am I to say otherwise?’
As the future husband of the future president, perhaps there was some special family reason for it.
With that thought, the Security Director cleared his mind and continued.
“You can build your strength gradually. Would you like me to recommend a training menu?”
“Please do.”
*
After finishing his sparring session with the Security Director and washing off his sweat, Amon headed to see Kathy.
As soon as Amon arrived, Kathy welcomed him as if she had been waiting.
Her breasts bounced inside her dress with its plunging neckline.
Though not at Sonia’s level, Kathy was quite devastating in her own right.
But that wasn’t her strongest point.
The panty string visible through the side slit of her dress.
Amon averted his gaze to her face.
Feeling an inexplicable guilt, he met Kathy’s eyes.
“You’re here?”
Kathy smiled seductively.
She poured water into a cup in front of Amon.
As she set down the cup, her cleavage briefly entered Amon’s field of vision.
‘White!’
What exactly was white shall remain a secret for Kathy’s honor.
After preparing her own tea as well, Kathy sat across from Amon.
As she crossed her legs, the thick flesh of her thighs—something of a trademark for Kathy—squished together.
It was a situation where not just her underwear strings but the underwear itself might be visible, but Kathy remained composed.
While Amon moistened his throat with water, Kathy savored the aroma of her black tea, her lips moving slightly.
The content coming from between her lips was mostly everyday conversation.
As always.
Typically, after morning training, Amon would spend the morning with Kathy, have lunch, and then part ways.
But today was a little different.
After lunch, she stopped Amon as he was about to leave.
“Come by my office today before you go.”
Amon readily agreed.
After finishing their meal, the two returned to Kathy’s office.
Kathy took an envelope out of her drawer.
Since she hadn’t shown any signs of this in the morning, Amon was quite surprised.
Kathy handed him the envelope and explained.
“I didn’t want to bring this up to someone who just came from training and was tired. They say people are more generous when they’re full. It’s actually a business strategy too.”
Amon gave a bitter smile.
Strangely, he didn’t feel like he was being manipulated.
That’s how much he trusted Kathy.
Amon opened the envelope to check the documents, just to see what was inside.
As he looked at them, Kathy spoke.
“You know that dungeon you cleared before. White Dawn.”
Amon recalled the first Megacorp he had eliminated.
He couldn’t even remember the name now.
‘What was it called again, Higgjen? Siggjen?’
All he remembered was that it had been absorbed by the Three Dollar Group.
Since it wasn’t particularly important, he dismissed the thought and focused on his conversation with Kathy.
Kathy continued.
“White Dawn is still producing monsters even though the boss was supposedly defeated by an unidentified someone, right? At least officially.”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
Dungeons react differently after their bosses are defeated, depending on the cause of the dungeon.
The “Howling Darkness” that Amon’s party had completely cleared stopped respawning undead after the lich achieved enlightenment and Seanrai behind it was absorbed by Kathy’s company.
As a result, mercenaries were flocking to that dungeon like they were trying to catch the last train, but that wasn’t important.
What was important was that Kathy had suddenly brought up this fact as if to confirm it.
Soon, the words Amon had expected came out of Kathy’s mouth.
“The boss of White Dawn has been resurrected.”
Amon’s fist clenched.
Seeing this, Kathy took his hand.
“Calm down. It’s resurrected, but it’s quite different from what you described.”
“?”
“It wasn’t a female form but a male one. Conversation was possible, but it wasn’t like the elegant being you told me about. More like a crazed old man?”
Only then did Amon’s fist relax.
Even though gender might be meaningless to demons, they usually take the form of young women.
They need to impersonate goddesses or saints, after all.
Demons can take other forms, but they’re proud of their appearance and tend not to change it.
Conclusion.
That bitch hadn’t returned.
After assessing Amon’s state, Kathy finally got to the main point.
“Here’s the main point. I want you to investigate the boss of that dungeon. If possible, I’d like you to find exclusive information that only you would know.”
According to Kathy, from the company’s perspective, since the dungeon was born from a failed Divine Power experiment, they wanted to examine its interaction with Divine Power.
Of course, Requetio Corporation could find Divine Power users if they wanted to.
But they couldn’t trust them.
The betrayal rate hovered around 2-3%.
With Amon, who had zero percent chance of betrayal and knew the dungeon well, there was no reason to send others.
“What do you think? Is that okay?”
“Of course. Just make sure the compensation is fair.”
“I’ll make sure you’re not disappointed.”
Amon accepted without even checking the details.
Because he trusted Kathy.
And Kathy reciprocated that trust.
After Amon signed the contract, Kathy put it back in the envelope.
“I’ll handle the complicated procedures.”
“Thanks. By the way, is this urgent? I was planning to go with Sonia after her school ends this afternoon.”
“That’s fine. Take your time.”
“Thank you.”
Afterward, Amon and Kathy chatted about various things.
When it was time to leave, Amon shook hands with Kathy.
“Feel free to give me requests anytime.”
Though he had declined the position of Security Director due to his free spirit, requests were a different matter.
As long as there was no attempt to put a leash on him, he was open to any request.
In fact, he preferred requests from the trustworthy Kathy over those from unknown clients.
Since the number one cause of mercenary deaths was backstabbing by clients or brokers, this was much better for Amon.
“I also feel much more at ease when a mercenary like you handles things.”
It was clear from Kathy and the company’s perspective as well.
Combat ability comparable to the Security Director, excellent situational judgment, and above all, guaranteed trust.
Honestly, he was more reliable than the External Intelligence Department that drew salaries from the company.
A mercenary who cost money but definitely delivered value.
That’s what Amon was to Requetio.
Moreover, that wasn’t the only advantage of a mercenary.
Amon jokingly mentioned this as they shook hands.
“If things go wrong, you can cut me loose.”
Unlike employees, it was much easier to disavow mercenaries.
If something went wrong, the company could plead ignorance.
It wasn’t for nothing that companies sponsored mercenaries or gave them requests despite having their own private armies.
But Kathy didn’t take Amon’s joke as a joke.
Her expression hardened as she spoke with absolute seriousness.
“I won’t abandon you. Ever.”
“I’m just kidding.”
“I don’t say such things even as a joke.”
At her serious response, Amon chuckled and patted her shoulder.
“Thanks, Kathy. You really are reliable.”
“If anything, I’m the one who’s grateful every time.”
Only then did Kathy’s expression soften.
Afterward, Amon said goodbye to her and left the office.
Only after Amon had left the office, passed through the company lobby, and moved far away from the company did Kathy erase the smile from her face.
As soon as Amon was gone, she changed her dress.
More accurately, she adjusted it.
She covered her chest and fixed the side slit of her skirt.
After putting on a vest and adding a few items, the seductive dress transformed into a business suit.
After tying her necktie, she picked up the phone.
“Let’s start the postponed meeting now.”
