After slitting the throat of the observatory keeper, all the quest windows that had been giving me headaches disappeared.
I went into settings and turned off every distracting option.
[▶Quest Notifications – OFF]
[▶NPC Subtitles – OFF]
[▶Navigation Assistant – OFF]
[▶Minimap – OFF]
[▶Hit Effects – OFF]
[▶Critical Effects – OFF]
[▶Kill Count Notifications – OFF]
The chat window was no exception.
During combat, bizarre emoticons like [●▅▇█▇▆▅▄▇] and even weirder ASCII art spam had caused me to lose focus and nearly die several times.
[▶Chat Window – OFF]
My view becomes clean.
The only thing reminding me this world is a game is the HP and MP bars in the bottom right corner.
Except for the socially awkward interactions with NPCs, this place could easily pass for reality.
[‘PelstachioAlmond’ donated 10,000 won!]
-It’s all your fault! It’s all your fault! It’s all your fault!
[‘SquishSquash’ donated 22,000 won!]
-Host, it’s too cold here… we’re all going to freeze to death…!
I couldn’t turn off donations.
While I did need to earn money, the game developers had physically made it impossible to turn off the donation window.
I should be grateful I could at least turn off the TTS voice.
“Where to next?”
“The materials warehouse-“
“Just guide me.”
Adella meant nothing more to me than a guide.
I realized it during the battle at the observatory.
Adella’s combat sense is zero.
Sure, compared to an average person, she’s far better, but in Nightmare difficulty, she’s completely useless.
I had to think of her as non-existent—no, as a burden—and assume the worst-case scenario to overcome crises.
“Forest Guardian, you got lucky at the observatory. You should be thankful the keeper wasn’t awake at that time.”
Adella whines and grumbles despite doing nothing.
“But the materials warehouse has 24-hour security because of explosives like mana stones.”
“I don’t want to hear it. Please just be quiet.”
“We’ll attack together. I’ll infiltrate from the roof and take down the warehouse keeper first. Meanwhile, you buy time at the main entrance.”
“Say something that makes sense.”
Adella was a woman obsessed with achievements.
She had no skill but tried to take on the biggest tasks to make herself look useful.
The stupid-but-diligent type, the worst personality, and would be first in line for execution if this were a war.
No wonder Sissiella and other members in the Abyss hated her.
Worse, she’s an NPC, so there’s no real interaction, and she never listens.
I couldn’t tell if I was talking to a person or a damn cat, and it was infuriating.
“Alright, wait here! I’ll climb up the wall quickly and—”
Her claws make an unpleasant sound as they scratch the wall.
My expectation of seeing a cat-kin in action crumbled instantly.
CRASH!
“Nyaaaah!”
“Intruders! Catch them!”
As expected, elite guards come rushing out.
Priests can’t use close-combat weapons like swords or spears, nor can they use bows or throwing weapons.
The penalty is too severe to ignore.
So what am I supposed to fight with?
Staves, law books, ritual objects, incense burners, and so on.
All items that can use powerful curse or healing reduction skills at the cost of mana.
I realized why Adella is forcibly added to the party even in solo play.
The priest class has no attack methods, making it impossible to clear alone.
The creator’s intention was clearly to make Adella the main tank and DPS.
To use physical enhancement auras in this game, you need to consume “Ki” rather than mana, and even then, non-tank classes suffer a 50% effectiveness penalty.
The only advantage of being a healer is that health regenerates quickly, making perfect clear ratings easier—everything else hinders completion.
Do I trust Adella?
No.
Entrusting my life to someone else is practically suicide.
I took out the ritual object I’d picked up at the observatory.
[Jewel of the Night Moon]
[It is said that making even the most evil person stare at its core, which has absorbed moonlight for 1000 days, can reform them.]
[Spell Power +40, MP +200]
One thing I learned while jostling with dozens of sweaty men at the observatory was that “weapons” in World of Arsheria weren’t part of this virtual reality.
It’s strange.
Normally, when strong metal hits weak metal, the weaker one wears down and eventually breaks.
But here, swords and arrowheads never wear out unless I intentionally break them.
Coding limitations? Or Wearsoft’s consideration so players don’t get frustrated with item durability?
If they made us worry about weapon durability too, this would be called a trash game instead of a masterpiece.
That wasn’t important right now.
What would happen if I hit with a ritual object?
[1st Circle Superior Cast: Arc Welding]
By applying AC voltage between the welding medium and the base material, it creates arc heat of 6000°C, comparable to the sun’s surface temperature.
Finely cut blade fragments embed into the ritual object with a scratching sound.
My mana drops instantly.
Though my aesthetic sense isn’t great, making it somewhat crude and monstrous, I’ve created an excellent spiked ball.
Smashing it into armor would be like hitting with a bowling ball, and even grazing a joint could cause deep lacerations.
The best thing about ritual objects was that they could move freely in the air, defying physical laws.
I squeeze out my last remaining mana to maximize its mass.
Then I throw the mace head with all my strength, like a scene from a Poké*on animation.
Or was the mace head from Ma*io series?
What’s certain is that they shouldn’t try to block it. They should dodge.
* * *
“Aaaaargh!”
A guard’s arm gets shredded by the spinning ritual object.
The soldiers, suddenly finding themselves at a disadvantage, scramble to save themselves.
-What the hell did you make!!
-Asked to fight with a ritual object and they’re LITERALLY fighting with a ritual objectㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
-Ritual object (physical)
-Look at how they’re consistently aiming for the head
-This is brutal
The spiked ritual object flies around, smashing the guards’ helmets.
-What’s Adella doing anyway?
-She’s just standing there watching instead of fighting
-Host!!! That troublemaker is causing problems AGAIN!
-Yeah I closed the chat, donate if you want me to know~
-How is this supposed to be sneaking in undetected?
While the guards flee in panic to avoid being impaled by the ritual object, Adella slips into the main entrance of the materials warehouse.
And as expected, Adella drags out all the forces inside the warehouse as well.
-Where’s the stealth assassination action game?
-Every time she does something, they all come rushingㅋㅋ
-Master of stirring up troubleㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
-Now I see why they call her “Cancer-della”… she’s terminal
-I know what the materials warehouse is for. It’s for the quest where Professor Princeton at the academy asks you to bring the Flame Blossom.
-No spoilers please
-Like it matters when this chat is full of LoL addicts and people with 1000+ hours in World of Arsheria who’ll never even try the game
-I was wondering why there are suddenly so many people, did someone post coordinates on the WoA gallery?
-Flame Blossom? What’s that?
-It’s an awakening material for the fire mage Giselle Phoenix in Academy Year 1
-Is he getting it for his student?
-No, he wants to make aphrodisiacs with it
-????? Is he crazy?
-All the academy professors here are missing a few screws
The Remnant Observatory and materials warehouse were familiar places to World of Arsheria players.
The observatory had an event where you infiltrate to grant ice knight Luna Pavilis’s wish and thwart the keeper’s plot.
The materials warehouse was a quest location where, despite the client’s impure intentions, completing it would allow you to awaken the fire mage Giselle Phoenix.
The sub-quest of freeing illegal magical creatures and slaves trapped in the warehouse was also worth completing for experience and levels.
In normal difficulty, these were numerous episodes where you build friendships with academy friends.
In Nightmare difficulty, they’re compressed into one massive event called “Academy Invasion” that forces you to clear it quickly.
The observatory keeper was at least set as a non-combat honorary professor who had stepped back from the central academy due to old age.
This meant he was significantly easier than other bosses.
It was Wearsoft’s first and last act of mercy before plunging players into endless despair.
The moment the “Nightmare” label was attached to the exploration healing RPG “World of Arsheria,” the game transformed into a soulless, hopeless souls-like game.
“What’s all this commotion! You insignificant vermin!”
-And there he is
-GG you did well to get this far
-I’ve seen 10/10/10 observatory clears on VTube but never with a priest
-Even in Nightmare, the warehouse keeper’s size is the same?
-Wasn’t he weak?
[Gentleman of the Library/Warehouse Keeper · Valrum Benaons (0/1)]
In normal difficulty, most people don’t even remember his name—he’s basically an extra.
So I ask:
What’s so scary about this old man who looks like a train pervert from an adult comic?
He has decent health but low attack power, making him an unremarkable boss that users can defeat without much damage if they bring enough potions.
For tanks, it’s just a matter of taking a few hits; for DPS, going all-out works fine.
Even healers can clear it as long as they don’t die from random attacks, since ice knight Luna and fire mage Giselle handle the clear.
But hardcore WoA gallery users reported trauma from this mid-boss.
The boss with the most strategy guides written in Nightmare difficulty.
Valrum Benaons.
The derogatory nickname given by hundreds of thousands of resentful users: “Fucking Valrum.”
“I’ll taxidermy all of you in my warehouse!”
[Valrum Benaons consumes the forbidden elixir ‘Celestial Moon Pill’.]
[Valrum Benaons uses the skill ‘Heaven Earth Moon Body’.]
[Warning! Under moonlight, Valrum Benaons resets all skill cooldowns and recovers 100% HP over 10 seconds!]
A special gimmick only found in Nightmare difficulty.
The being who first instills despair in gamers determined to never die roars with fury.
