Ch.605Storm Battle. (6)
by fnovelpia
When Rio Grande realized the situation was becoming critical due to the Bismarck-class’s overwhelming performance, he judged that Icarus was attempting to “capture” his Bismarck-class.
Hurriedly, he deployed a large number of close-combat superhumans from his main force, excluding fleet command, attempting to wage a siege battle inside the Bismarck-class.
Of course, his choice wasn’t wrong.
Rather, what if he didn’t support the Bismarck-class and it got captured?
That would be an absolute shortcut to defeat, so from a common-sense perspective, Rio Grande’s decision deserved praise.
But the truly unfortunate thing for Rio Grande was that unlike his sensible actions, Icarus wasn’t actually aiming to capture the Bismarck at all.
To be precise, capturing it was in the “nice to have, but not necessary” category.
What Icarus was really aiming for was to have superhumans and assault units create “chaos” inside, effectively taking the Bismarck-class out of the battle.
Then the rest of his fleet would ignore the Bismarck-class and completely demolish Rio Grande’s remaining fleet!
Naturally, as his fleet started getting pummeled by Icarus’s ships, Rio Grande finally realized the truth.
“Damn it, capturing the Super Dreadnought wasn’t their objective!”
“All ships, defensive formation! Small vessels, flank around the battlefield and strike from the side!”
He hurriedly refocused on the battlefield, trying to block Icarus’s offensive.
But having already lost considerable strength from Alcazar’s surprise attack, they were barely hanging on thanks to the Bismarck-class’s tanking ability.
“Commander Rio Grande, if we continue like this, we’ll all be heading down the path of defeat!”
When this urgent communication came from “William,” Rio’s force commander and former Earth Federation general, Rio Grande decided to abandon holding his position and ordered the entire fleet to pull back.
Of course, this included the Bismarck-class, which was also supposed to retreat, but…
“Enemy Super Dreadnought approaching! They’re firing on our flagship!”
“Ah, damn it.”
When Alcazar’s flagship, the Super Dreadnought, blocked the Bismarck-class and initiated a mindless broadside battle, it suddenly became a one-on-one standoff between each fleet’s largest ships, leaving Rio Grande’s most powerful vessel stranded in the middle of the battlefield.
Of course, this also prevented Icarus from using his Super Dreadnought in the offensive.
From Icarus’s perspective, it was enough to tie down the Bismarck with just one Super Dreadnought…
Our poor Rio Grande and his fleet, having lost their strongest card right before their eyes, could only be pushed back repeatedly by the ruthless irregular tactics of the special ships and the bombardment from the remaining vessels.
The problem was that, just like Icarus, Rio Grande couldn’t keep retreating forever.
*BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP!*
“C-Commander! A massive neutron storm is approaching from behind!”
“No, why, why now of all times?!”
The neutron storm that Rio Grande’s fleet had passed without much thought before the battle had begun was now slowly approaching his fleet.
Of course, saying it was “approaching” is just a figure of speech.
If the neutron storm could think, it might have made arrogant statements like, “I’m just going my own way, you insignificant specks are the ones in my path!” or
“That’s what you get for charging in without thinking at the beginning, losers~” and other mocking remarks…
Unfortunately, the neutron storm couldn’t possibly have intelligence, and even if it did, Rio Grande had no reason to be understanding about it.
Rio Grande, lacking sensitivity toward neutron storms, had to feel extreme anger at how something he had casually dismissed was now driving him into a corner.
But there was nothing he could do about it.
*BOOM! BOOM!*
“AAAAARGH!”
“The ship is sinking!”
“Enemy fleet’s bombardment continues to increase!”
At the front, all of Icarus’s fleet had positioned Dreadnoughts and Krakens at the forefront, executing a firepower battle including Ouroboros’s concentrated bombardment.
From behind, the neutron storm that could tear even Dreadnoughts to shreds continued to approach.
With no retreat path left, most of the fleet had no proper space to evade and was helplessly being pummeled and exploding one after another.
‘Ah damn, is this what they call being surrounded on all sides or whatever?’
“AAAAH!”
“Number 3 Dreadnought’s ammunition storage exploded! Fire breaking out inside the hull!”
“Number 7 battleship’s main gun turret 1 destroyed, no main gun turrets remaining!”
“Jackson-class destroyer’s propulsion system half-destroyed, mobility performance down by 57%…”
*CRASH!*
“Commander! The flight deck has been hit and we can no longer launch carrier-based aircraft!”
“Commander, the fleet can’t hold out like this!”
“…Ah, damn it all.”
*BOOM!*
“This is Bismarck, enemy superhumans’ attack has reached near the bridge.”
“Commander, we’ve somehow protected the Bismarck’s engine room, but at this rate, the bridge is in danger!”
“Damn it, with everything from assassins to that woman who twists spaces, it’s not easy to respond.”
Receiving catastrophic damage reports from all kinds of ships, learning that the mercenary groups and force detachments he had mobilized were on the verge of annihilation, and witnessing his precious gacha ships taking damage and facing the risk of being captured or sunk, Rio Grande closed his eyes for a moment of deep contemplation…
After a short yet long deliberation, he opened his eyes and made his decision.
“Sigh… there’s no choice, surrender, surrender!”
“Yes! Emergency order to all ships, the Commander has declared surrender, cease all combat immediately!”
But as he made that decision and his adjutant “Penny” immediately carried out the order…

<Commander ‘Rio Grande’ has surrendered!>
<10th battle ended>
<Winner: Commander ‘Icarus’!>
<Thank you for your hard work in the battle!>
<You will automatically return to base soon.>

Seeing the “surrender message” that automatically appeared, he couldn’t help but feel quite dejected.
==========
At the same time.
As always, watching Neranjara’s performance as she stealthily and efficiently took out the propulsion systems of the main ships without drawing attention.
As soon as he saw the neutron storm approaching, he drove the enemy toward it and then hammered them hard, resulting in…

<Since you have won up to the 10th battle, points will be awarded soon.>

“Yeaaah! Great victory!”
“We won, Commander!”
Finally hearing that the arrogant clan ranker had surrendered to me, I immediately raised my fist and shouted with joy.
And shortly after that action, I could see all my remaining fleet instantly warping to the docking facilities at the base.
At the same time, I heard that all my superhumans and troops who had stormed the Bismarck had also instantly dropped into the recovery room at the base.
‘Ah, fortunately I won’t need to negotiate about bringing in people and superhumans I don’t know.’
I found myself smiling at the thought that I, being introverted(?), wouldn’t have to go through the troublesome process of chatting and negotiating with people I didn’t know.
But more important than all that was the fact that with this battle, I had achieved a perfect victory in the tournament, winning☆ the event.
‘Now it’s time to reap the sweet rewards of victory, hohoho.’
After docking all ships at the docking facilities and giving rest time to the superhumans and mercenary commanders, I leisurely decided to check the points that would be awarded for winning the 10th battle and browse the point shop that was open during the event period.
But perhaps the “point award” mentioned in the message wasn’t happening right away.

‘Hey, they should give these things immediately, what are they doing?’
Unfortunately, confirming that I didn’t have a single point to use right now, and being tired from the battle, I decided to go to my room and get some sweet sleep first.
