Ch.59Doyoung’s Favorite Random Game (6)
by fnovelpia
The effects of the virgin room were certainly real.
I could tell by how sensitively that Hamin guy was reacting to every little thing I said.
“I’m sorry… Because of me, your room… I’m really sorry.”
The issue was what exactly he was being so hypersensitive about.
For now, I decided to hold off on pressing him since Hamin’s expression looked too flustered.
“Don’t worry about it. The floor can be wiped clean, and clothes can be changed. Good thing it’s Friday. I was planning to wash my uniform anyway.”
Thanks to the mango juice that Hamin personally spilled from his mouth, the room had become quite a mess.
Still, all things considered, it wasn’t too bad.
The workbooks and textbooks were fine,
and at most, just the floor and some clothes got a little wet.
“G-give me a rag. I’ll clean it up.”
“It’s fine. I’ll do it. You just clean your clothes.”
“But I’m the one who made the mistake.”
“I’m the bad girl who caused it in the first place.”
“…Still, let’s do it together. I’m the one who spilled it.”
We cleaned the floor stained with fruit juice together.
Even after the stickiness completely disappeared, I still felt like I could smell the mango scent rising from the floor,
but since it wasn’t an unpleasant smell, I decided to let time take care of that.
“Your clothes are wet too, Hamin. Want to change?”
“Ah… I think I should. I’ll go down to the dojang on the first floor and change into my dobok.”
“No, don’t do that. It’s a hassle, and I don’t want to hear my dad nagging about spilled juice.”
“B-but then I won’t have anything to change into…”
“Hey, I have this.”
I handed Hamin the school gym uniform with Ban Doyoung’s name embroidered on it.
Between Hamin, who was the shortest boy in Class 1,
and Ban Doyoung, who was the tallest girl in Class 1, there was surprisingly a decent overlap in wearable clothes, but I couldn’t bring myself to give him women’s clothing.
For Hamin, who had a complex about his small build whether he realized it or not, just handing him women’s clothes would be hurtful.
The gender-neutral school gym uniform was probably the only clothing that would hurt his pride the least,
while allowing him to accept my goodwill without resistance.
“Th-thank you…”
“Then could you take that and step outside for a moment?”
“Huh…?”
“…I need to change too. My shirt that you dirtied.”
“Ah….”
“What, do you want to see if I’m wearing an ajumma bra underneath?”
“N-no…! I’ll go change outside and come back!”
Hamin grabbed the gym uniform and dashed out of the room.
“Damn, my bra is sticky too. I’ll have to change that as well.”
Ah, I forgot to ask Hamin what color bra he prefers.
I guess white would work since Marina-chan has white hair.
.
.
.
I was wearing a t-shirt stolen from Ban Doyoung’s military-enlisted brother’s room,
and Hamin was wearing the gym uniform with Ban Doyoung’s name on it that I had given him as we started our serious exam study session.
“I brought some problems that you seemed to struggle with based on the mock exam you took last time.”
“Oh, how thoughtful. Did you actually make all of these yourself?”
“W-well, it’s not that difficult… making problems is also part of studying…”
“Hoho, that sounds exciting. Deflowering Hamin’s virgin problems. I’m suddenly feeling motivated.”
“You sure get motivated by strange things…”
Teacher Mi-so’s goal was to exceed the midterm grade average.
Given that time was limited, Hamin’s approach to achieve this goal was to raise the scores in the subjects where I was performing worst.
Fortunately, humanities and language subjects that I still remembered well from school days required relatively less attention.
Hamin decided to focus our limited two weeks mainly on math and science, the subjects that Ban Doyoung and I struggled with the most.
“Ah, try solving this problem next. It shouldn’t be too difficult if you follow what I taught you earlier.”
“Let’s see… First, I create an equation that satisfies the two conditions mentioned in the problem… then combine them into one and solve…”
“That’s right. That’s how you do it. You understood it well.”
“Listening to you, Hamin, I feel like I’m remembering formulas I had forgotten long ago.”
“See, I told you these are problems you already know, you just couldn’t remember them.”
Hamin smiled proudly at me, looking pleased.
Although there had been various disruptions from the start,
once we began studying, progress went surprisingly smoothly.
As I faced problems while listening to Hamin’s explanations,
solving them became much easier compared to when I was floundering before.
Not only did my accuracy rate improve significantly, but more importantly, I came to understand why the answers were correct.
Understanding the structure meant I could apply the same approach when similar problem types appeared in the future.
“Y-you’re better at this than I expected…? I was secretly worried since your math score was in the single digits.”
“Hehe, you can praise me more, Master.”
“Yeah. You’re really doing well. I’m glad. It makes all the effort of bringing these problems worthwhile.”
“Great! フトスト to normalize my future husband’s face!”
“If only you wouldn’t say weird things at the end…”
Somehow, the knowledge that had been forcibly crammed into my head during high school
hadn’t completely disappeared.
Well, that’s certainly part of it, but
Hamin’s teaching skills were also impressively advanced for a high school student.
‘This guy is surprisingly good at teaching.’
I had noticed it before when learning cooking from Hamin at home,
but he seemed to have a talent for teaching others.
He had a keen eye for details and was considerate,
with an exceptional ability to precisely identify what I had missed and explain it in an easy-to-understand way.
Even problems I initially got wrong, I didn’t make the same mistakes after hearing Hamin’s explanations.
There were even several times when I felt his explanations were better than those of the school teachers.
“Wait, this equation can be simplified further. Try writing it like this. It’ll be much easier to look at.”
“Oh… you’re right. The neat and precise alignment is just like Ban Doyoung’s facial features.”
“Yes, I think you’re pretty too, so please focus on the problem for now.”
“Y-you’re just letting that slide? You just called me pretty, you know? Shouldn’t your face be turning red like usual?”
“I think I could do that if you get the answer right. So hurry up and solve it.”
“Ah, fine… I’ll solve it, okay?”
Above all, Hamin always maintained a serious attitude when teaching something.
Even when I occasionally tried to break the solemn atmosphere with jokes, if I didn’t show signs of getting the correct answer or seriously solving the problem, he would either ignore my comments without changing his expression or gently deflect them.
I thought I had managed to provoke a reaction from him by confining him in the virgin room,
but that was only before we started studying, when he was easily distracted by surrounding elements.
Once Hamin entered a state of concentration, he was so solid and unwavering that even I couldn’t easily pull him out of it.
I guess this level of focus is necessary to turn down a date request from the world’s most beautiful woman and escape to night study sessions.
Before, there were times when he would get flustered or blush because of me during class or self-study.
Why was he so unwavering now, despite being in an even more difficult space to concentrate? Even I was curious about the reason.
“Hey, Hamin. I’m curious about something…”
“Is it related to the problem? Or is it just personal? If it’s personal, tell me after we finish.”
“…Yes, sir.”
But I wasn’t granted the privilege of asking him that before we completed the material.
If I wanted to have a conversation with Hamin, I had to solve all the problems standing in my way like gatekeepers.
I questioned whether it was appropriate for a youth romance webtoon that I, who had possessed the main heroine, had to solve all these dense math problems just to have a proper conversation with that guy while alone with the protagonist in the heroine’s room, but even that doubt had to be temporarily set aside in a corner of my consciousness.
I couldn’t forget the method for easily solving trigonometric functions that Hamin had just taught me.
Understanding the definition accurately is important, yes.
Only after far exceeding the 100-minute time limit for the mock math exam
was I finally able to solve all the problems Hamin had brought.
“Phew… that was a difficult and long journey. Took a little over 2 hours.”
By the time the sun had completely set in the evening,
or rather, it would be more accurate to call it night.
I wasn’t confident about my accuracy rate,
but at least I had solved all the remaining problems without Hamin’s help, which was something.
“Hamin, I’ve solved all the problems you gave me. I’m not sure if I reached the target score, but do you want to take a look?”
“…”
“…Hamin? Are you sleeping?”
-Thud
Hamin’s head collapsed onto the table.
“H-he really fell asleep…”
I thought he was being quiet while I was solving problems.
Well, this guy was originally not talkative and quiet.
While I was solving problems,
Hamin had already fallen asleep from exhaustion.
“Don’t tell me these problems…”
A thought suddenly occurred to me, and I spread out the workbook and the problems Hamin had given me on the table.
At a glance, there were similar types of problems, but none of the problems Hamin had given me were exactly the same as those in the workbook.
“He said he only made a few himself… but he actually made all of them.”
This guy had been studying at school until 10 PM just yesterday.
Moreover, he said it takes nearly 2 hours to get from school to home.
After getting home past midnight,
he must have stayed up all night making these problems for Ban Doyoung’s study.
Hoping that Ban Doyoung would show even a little interest in studying.
“…You’re really something else.”
Hamin truly becomes sincere when it comes to Ban Doyoung.
“I’m starting to feel a bit envious, Miss Ban Doyoung.”
To think she’s the main heroine with a guy like this as the protagonist.
“Still, sleeping in just a gym uniform will give you a cold.”
Like the chest pillow incident at the movie theater before,
once Hamin fell into a deep sleep, he wouldn’t wake up easily.
I brought a blanket from the bed and covered his shoulders.
I wanted to give him a moment to catch his breath, even if just for a while.
And incidentally, I needed a break too.
[Ding dong]
Just then, a notification sounded on Hamin’s phone in front of him.
It was a message from a saved number.
“…”
I quietly picked up Hamin’s phone and swiped the screen.
Of course, the phone had a password for security, but
[0101]
[Unlocked]
I easily unlocked it and opened the chat room where the message had arrived.
“Hamin, you idiot, even if your birthday is January 1st, who sets their password to their birthday?”
[Mom]
[Hamin, are you studying hard? Sorry for texting during night study ㅠㅠ]
[My son has been looking so tired lately, should we go out for some fresh air tomorrow?]
[I heard there’s a beautiful cherry blossom path near your school. Let’s go see the flowers and eat something delicious together^^]
“As expected. It was this guy’s mother.”
Warm sentiments that could be felt even through the text on the screen.
It was a message from Hamin’s mother.
Even her messenger profile wasn’t her own picture,
but a childhood photo of her son Hamin, which showed how much this mother on the other side of the screen cherished her child.
“…Hehe.”
I set the phone to silent mode for all sounds,
and opened the keyboard.
[Me]
[Sorry Mom]
[I forgot to tell you]
[I’m studying at a friend’s house tonight and staying over]
[Marina-chan bowing sticker]
