Ch.5959. Gray Wolf Hide
by fnovelpia
During the quiet nights at the farm, everyone was busy in their own rooms with tablets or console games, but they would gather at mealtimes to eat and talk.
“What do you think will sell best when we go out?”
“Probably the healing herbs, right? I’ve never seen A-grade healing herbs before.”
“The pure mushrooms seem pretty popular too, but healing herbs would definitely be better, right?”
“Ah, the rest are just minor items.”
I wondered how valuable the trade resources we were taking out would be this time.
Which one would be selected as the main MVP?
The selection criterion was, of course, money.
“If we sell everything, couldn’t we buy a building? Oppa, you’re spending more than half the year here farming anyway, so even if you just let it sit, the value would skyrocket.”
“What building? By the time we reach a higher biome level, buildings will be worth dirt compared to items.”
Anyway, our predicted MVP this time was the healing herb fruit.
That prediction seemed likely to hold true, though there was a slight variable when alchemist Lee Ji-hyun mentioned that the ointment made from the leaves might be more popular than potions made from the fruit, but the overall outcome wouldn’t change much.
However, there was something unexpected that was rapidly gaining attention.
“My dad’s friend knows a blacksmith who makes armor, and when he showed him the gray wolf leather, he said he really wanted to work with it. Apparently, many guilds are already interested and asking for connections. What should we do?”
“Is that so?”
“He said he’d only charge for materials if we let him work on it.”
“Wait, what…”
I found this kind of thing difficult to understand.
Lee Ji-hyun?
She hasn’t been awakened as an alchemist for long, doesn’t have much money, and maintains various principles about not getting tied down by selling things cheaply with an eye on the future. I understand that making a slightly unfavorable contract with me right now isn’t a losing business for her.
After all, she’s not just focused on gaining experience to level up, and since she doesn’t have money, it’s like a contract where she’s borrowing against future earnings.
But my dad’s friend’s acquaintance, a blacksmith.
And not just any blacksmith, but one with the skills to handle A-grade leather and make armor—he can’t be just anybody.
Birds of a feather flock together, as they say.
He’s not some F-grade skilled craftsman making knockoff clothes in Dongdaemun market, but a professional armor maker who sells specifically to hunters. Even if he’s not a famous master, his services would be extremely expensive, and his time would be something you’d have to pay dearly for.
Why would someone like that…?
Of course, A-grade leather is hard to come by, but is it really worth this much?
“Oppa, I’ve gotten a bit dull from being at the farm too, but for A-grade leather, it makes sense.”
To be precise, the gray wolf leather was B+ grade, with about 4-5 pieces graded as A-.
So in terms of armor, one piece could be made with A- leather, and the rest would need to be made with B+ grade. He was offering to work on the A- grade leather without charging for the rest of the work.
“It’s not easy to clear A-grade dungeons, and it’s even harder to extract undamaged leather…”
In the Farming World, when you start the game, you learn the “Butchering” skill first.
But in reality, of course, monsters don’t just automatically disassemble and drop leather with a click unless you’re a hunter with the “Butchering” ability.
That’s why after clearing dungeons with monsters that have armor-grade leather, professional butchers with the skill go in to skin the monsters.
Even then, the condition of the leather varies from 0-100% depending on how damaged the monster’s body is, and naturally, the quality of the resulting armor depends on the condition of the leather.
So the 95-100% condition leather I brought back is something that would make any leather-working blacksmith drool.
“Maybe I should level up my butchering skill.”
My butchering grade is F.
The reason all the leather pieces were extracted with almost no damage despite this is because I killed almost all the gray wolves by beheading them.
Occasionally I split a few in half for fun, but those weren’t many, so they wouldn’t stand out among the rest of the good-quality leather.
If I continue hunting like this, I can preserve the value of the leather.
Of course, to safely increase the value, leveling up my butchering grade would be the easiest way.
Anyway, it was unexpected.
I never thought I’d get such a good response from an unexpected quarter.
We had discussed that leather could be made into armor and sold decently, but getting this kind of reaction from a blacksmith was beyond expectations.
“He said he can make the armor within three days once you decide what you want.”
“Hmm… then let’s ask for an A-grade upper body armor, another B+ upper body armor, lower body armor, gloves, and neck protector.”
“Got it.”
I was planning to auction off the A-grade item.
The B+ grade set would be for me to wear when hunting the Corrupted Ogre.
There’s definitely a difference between B+ and A-grade, but from my perspective, it’s not significant enough to matter.
It would be much more beneficial to put the A-grade armor, which is in high demand, up for auction to raise Gwangjin Distribution’s profile.
Gwangjin Distribution needs to grow not only to avenge Dad’s hardships and deal with the annoying Hyunjong Distribution, but also so I can easily order the items I want through Dad.
I’ll be bringing back more and more resources that need to be sold, but even now we’re having to split payments because they can’t pay all at once. How can we continue trading like this?
I can’t sell elsewhere either.
The only option is to grow Gwangjin Distribution further.
So this auction would feature [Corrupted Healing Herb Ointment], the upcoming A- grade Gray Wolf Leather upper body armor, and [Corrupted Healing Herb Potion].
There were also some small gift sets of pure mushrooms to catch initial attention, but those weren’t even worth considering in the competition.
“What will sell for the highest price?”
In terms of total quantity, of course nothing could match the [Corrupted Healing Herb Ointment] or healing potions.
But comparing single items, the A-grade leather armor, depending on the craftsman’s skill, could easily outvalue mere ointments.
As for healing potions, they’re not even in the same league in terms of individual price.
“It’ll be the armor, right?”
That seemed highly likely.
——————–
Two days until the armor was completed, with the auction scheduled for the following day.
During that time, I started preparing to return to the farm with Kim Su-jung.
“Solar panels. Can you show me how to install them and connect the electricity?”
“You want to do it yourself?”
“Yes. It’s a place technicians can’t access.”
“We go on service calls all over the country…”
“Can you come to a dungeon too?”
“Ah… install this in a dungeon…”
“People do it a lot these days. Haven’t you done it before?”
“Is there sun in dungeons?”
I was buying solar panels to accumulate electricity during daytime hours, which would be enough to power a refrigerator and other electrical appliances in a cabin-sized space, but an unexpected problem arose.
“Um… is there no sun…?”
“This is the first I’ve heard of dungeons having sunlight.”
In a way, the solar panel guy was right.
The sun exists in our solar system, and dungeons are in different dimensions, so how could there be a sun?
Fortunately, there was a foreign research paper on this topic.
“I looked it up, and the sun does rise inside dungeons, right? It’s not exactly the same as our sun, but it’s similar enough that solar panels can charge. I did my research before coming.”
“Oh, really? Those foreigners really try everything.”
I figured that since there’s day and night in dungeons or dimensional rifts, it might work similarly. Thanks to Kim Su-jung’s preparation, we avoided wasting money.
With solar panels stuffed into our belts and a crash course on electrical connections, I returned feeling excited and reassured.
“A Farming World with a refrigerator.”
Refrigerator. Freezer. Kimchi refrigerator.
These appliances would be nice to have in the Farming World, but they’re especially popular in zombie apocalypse-type games.
In environments where preserving food and keeping it cold is a blessing.
The same goes for dimensional rifts.
“We’ll be taking a lot with us this time.”
Thinking about electricity brings so many things to mind.
Air conditioner. Air fryer.
To think we can replace things that normally require at least biome level 3 or 4 with items from Earth.
The feeling of washing your tired body with warm water after a long day, turning on the air conditioner, and pulling out a cold beer from the refrigerator—that satisfaction!
The thought of being able to do that at the farm filled me with a sense of achievement like never before.
