    Ch.5955 – A Game That Seems Fair

The World of Arsheria’s arena is divided into 1vs1, 3vs3, and 6vs6 formats.

Among these, 3vs3 was comparable to League of Legends’ “Howling Abyss” – an event-style game mode without a ranking system, while 1v1 solo rank and 6v6 arena rank were the main focus of player interest.

However, WoA’s arena system wasn’t like “Legacy of Legend” or the discontinued “Heroes of the Storm 2” where all players’ characters start with identical stats and potential.

The minimum requirement to participate in the arena was 10,000 combat power.

This meant you needed to raise your character’s combat power to at least 10,000 in story mode before you could enter the arena.

Let’s use Silver 2, the median rank in the top 50% of arena rankings, as an example.

Players at this tier typically start the game with characters having 20,000 to 25,000 combat power.

While specific stats vary widely between players, the combat power provided by WoA became the most reliable indicator for predicting win rates in one-on-one situations.

Even among warriors, some are born with 1000 attack power, while others have 1150 – essentially starting with an extra sword.

Assuming equal growth, this gap widens with each level increase.

Of course, the developers implemented various mechanisms to prevent players from becoming exhausted by character development alone.

A prime example was the automatic adjustment system that increased a character’s combat power after winning streaks or outstanding performances in ranked games.

Additionally, there were considerate systems that adjusted scores upon victory or defeat to ensure that popular but unwanted class types would be placed in lower ranks, while unpopular but essential classes would be placed in higher ranks.

    Nevertheless, limitations existed.

Imagine someone with excellent physical and mental skills who broke through to the Platinum tier (top 10%) with a 20,000 combat power character.

This person would then face opponents with monstrous 40,000 combat power.

At this point, players inevitably turned their attention back to story mode to create new characters.

After all, someone who could reach Platinum rank with just 20,000 combat power clearly had enough potential.

The physical skills honed in PVP made clearing the story easier, resulting in characters with higher combat power than before.

Then, testing the new character’s abilities in the arena again,

The previously stagnant rank points would rise exponentially.

    [Starting stream: 0:00:01 – NoName]

I definitely thought WoA was a game that properly understood the flaws of MOBAs, human attribution errors, and reward psychology.

People claim to like fair competition and victories based on skill, but that’s not actually true.

People like games that “appear fair.”

The reason MOBA-type games are inevitably popular is because everyone starts with the same resources, at the same time, from the same starting line.

Unlike MMORPGs, you won’t face whale players who’ve spent millions on full sets of equipment and accessories right after creating your character.

But what if you invaded at the beginning of the game and got a “pentakill,” starting your lane with 1600 gold?

Your smile would reach the sky.

Because the game is already acknowledged as fair to everyone from the start.

The asymmetrical power provided by combat ratings had other effects too.

It provided a good way to externalize the stress of losing in a game.

Games like Go, chess, or StarCraft are perfect one-on-one skill games.

If you lose, it’s purely a matter of your own skill, which causes significant stress, especially for highly competitive people.

But MOBAs are team games, making it easier to “blame others,” allowing players to shake off their frustrations and jump into the next game.

What if you could blame combat power too?

If you win, it’s because of your skill; if you lose, it’s because your combat power was too low.

Finally, there’s the gradual rank improvement.

Surprisingly, in MOBAs, it’s difficult to visually identify development according to tier.

What seemed like a Bronze-level game might actually be Diamond players, or vice versa.

But WoA’s system clearly distinguished each tier, and people’s ranks couldn’t rise steadily due to the inherent limitations of combat power.

In other words, if you could create a stronger character than before in story mode,

    Tier advancement was practically guaranteed.

People were vulnerable to occasional bursts of pleasure rather than continuous rewards.

    Just like gambling.

It certainly would take a meticulous system to surpass LoL, which had maintained the #1 position for decades.

After analyzing all this, I wondered how fun “Resonance” actually was.

From what I’d heard, it was just some shooter game where you fight with auras, which didn’t really seem like my style.

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon anyway.

Today, I just planned to get a general understanding of WoA.

The side quests I did with Lora might be fun to play, but watching them could be a different experience.

[Welcome to the chat! (Chat freeze disabled due to timeout)]

    -1111

    -1111111111

    -1

    -hey long time

-this person always freezes the chat whenever they stream

-you don’t stream often these days so viewers have dropped off

    “Good to see you all.”

[Would you like to connect to World of Arsheria?]

[The broadcast has been running for 0:07:13. Would you like to continue?]

[May the blessing of the World Tree be with you.]

    -WoA?

-I thought you said you wouldn’t play this game?

-Are you really playing? It’s been forever

-Change the tags to get more viewers

    [‘SaveMeFromGradSchool’ donated 1,000 won!]

-Wow NoName it’s been so long!! Are you actually playing WoA today?

“Yes, I’ve decided to start playing from today.”

I didn’t forget to change the tags.

The moment “World of Arceria” was added to my stream title, which had always been just “Just Chatting,”

    The viewers’ reactions were intense.

-lol abandoning League like trash hahaha

-Wait, you’re not playing League anymore? I even set alerts to watch Asteria

-Can someone who’s played League their whole life even adapt to a fantasy style?

    -Newbie alert

-Already drooling at the thought of backseat gaming

-What class are you going to play?

    -Thief? Assassin?

-The classics are warrior or mage.

“I’m just planning to try it out today. I’ve already cleared the prologue.”

I wasn’t sure if it was possible to switch to solo mid-game.

It might be okay since I hadn’t started the main story yet?

    [‘SaveMeFromGradSchool’ donated 10,000 won!]

-Thanks to you, NoName, the arena meta is completely messed up now with paladins everywhere fr

    “What? What do you mean?”

Neither I nor the viewers understood what he was talking about.

Multiple question marks flooded the chat.

-Oh, I’m a WoA player and I wrote a paladin guide before

-I made a scroll based on the dimensional descent method you showed on stream before

-With just that one scroll, anyone can level up one circle and use magic

-It completely inflates combat power for all classes and makes healer classes viable now

-The arena is total chaos with 6 tanks vs 6 healers sometimes

-I thought they’d block it, but there hasn’t been an emergency patch, so I guess they don’t care

I followed the link the viewer sent.

[World of Arsheria New Meta “I Alone Am a Paladin” (Serious/Long Post)]

As he said, there was an incomplete scroll with an auxiliary magic formation similar to the dimensional descent formula I had once cast on stream.

The download count was already in the hundreds of thousands.

    -Wait, this exists?

-While hundreds of thousands were downloading this, what were you doing? lol

-No wonder, I’m Silver in WoA but whenever I try arena everyone’s combat power is insanely high

-For real, I thought they released new story content

-No one who’s actually played WoA properly is left, just League addicts lol

Out of curiosity, I went to a stats lookup site and linked the viewer’s username.

    [Search: SaveMeFromGradSchool]

    [SaveMeFromGradSchool Challenger / Arena Ranking 70 / Top 0.00074%]

“You’re really good. I’ll be counting on your help while playing.”

Having such a skilled player in my chat felt like finding a free tutor.

I should keep asking this person whenever I have questions about the game.

    -Challenger???

-Goes straight to checking stats, scary

-Twissy needs to get rid of this feature ASAP… checking stats as soon as someone gives advice ruins the chat vibe

    -That’s just because you’re Bronze/Silver/Gold ^^

    -Do Bronze/Silver/Gold players even chat?

“Can you actually use scrolls in-game too?”

    Isn’t that too overpowered?

-You can only bring one at a time and there’s a cooldown

-Still, it gives you a whole circle boost, so it’s worth using even if you have to memorize other spells

-Kids who couldn’t study magic before and only used Blink are now forced to learn magic lol

-This is how the game should be

The scroll slot was fixed at one from the beginning.

Makes sense – who has time to draw a full magic circle during combat?

Games should be treated as games.

The original intention of the developers was to allow players to bring magic needed for upcoming battles at each save point, adding variables. But users who already knew the usefulness of “Flash” from LoL filled this slot with the 1st circle “Blink” spell.

It was so prevalent that most people called it the “Blink slot” rather than the “scroll slot.”

In reality, Blink was extremely efficient for a 1st circle spell, so even players carrying up to three laurels would keep that slot as is.

    [Duo disbanded: ‘Warrior Aurora’]

[Warning: If you enter the main story, you cannot form a party again. Do you still want to disband the party?]

    [Party has been disbanded.]

[This character can now be used in ranked matches.]

Would viewers prefer story or arena?

I’d have to find out. I couldn’t predict everything.

    [‘SaveMeFromGradSchool’ donated 10,000 won!]

-NoName, it’s your first game, what difficulty did you set?

“Can you set the difficulty separately?”

I’ve never seen such an option.

Because I had force-quit the game previously, I woke up at the checkpoint inn.

Opening the slightly creaky old door, everyone from the “Abyss” turned to look at me.
