Ch.58[Episode 58] Gacha in Gacha Land
by fnovelpia
In Gacha Land, there exists a tag called “mounts.”
Basically, they’re equipment that increase movement speed when equipped in the accessory slot, but sometimes mounts can also change characteristics or special abilities.
Like how a knight-concept character can gain [Charge Breakthrough] or [Jousting] when riding a horse.
And here, someone was taking out a mount in the wilderness after a long time.
“Governor, where are you going?”
A female soldier with pink hair and vacant eyes approached the garage. She wore a form-fitting black military uniform that revealed her figure and carried a submachine gun over her shoulder.
“Ah, Krieg.”
The man who was pulling out a car with chains attached to the hood greeted her cheerfully.
The one called Governor was a bizarrely-shaped man wearing elaborate medals and emblems over his black military uniform.
His cheekbones protruded excessively, his temples were deeply sunken, his eyebrows sat too high, and his eyes bulged out too much.
His mouth was stretched wide horizontally, looking like it could fit two fists inside, and above all, his skin was purple.
“I’m going to roll some gacha after a long time.”
“Eh? Governor, are we finally getting new personnel here? Man? Woman?”
“Well, it’s a man. What’s certain is that we’ll finally have a frontline fighter.”
“If I can pull one from the Gacha Stones I have,” added the purple-skinned Governor as he hoisted the car onto his shoulder.
“Governor. Why do you carry the car on your shoulder instead of riding in it?”
Her vacant eyes blinked drowsily.
“Because it increases movement speed.”
That wasn’t what the female soldier called Krieg had meant, but she seemed used to this, smiling broadly with delight.
“I see~”
“Now this Governor will bring a new friend, so go run some explorations for a while. I’ll be back soon.”
The Governor smiled brightly, reassuring the female soldier.
His already large mouth stretched even wider, making his face even more grotesque.
Yet the female soldier didn’t seem to notice anything strange, still smiling broadly as she said:
“Pat my head before you go. It increases likability.”
It was an in-game tip.
As he roughly patted her head, a heart symbol appeared above the female soldier’s head, indicating that her likability had increased.
“Now I’m really going. Do you have to run explorations?”
The purple Governor hoisted the car onto his shoulder and began crossing the wilderness at tremendous speed.
“The Governor is so cool. I wish I had an older or younger brother like him—”
The woman named Krieg said this as she headed in the opposite direction from where the Governor had gone.
To fulfill the Governor’s order… no, request.
The Governor kicked up dust as he ran through the wilderness toward Gacha Land.
And on the outskirts of Gacha Land, there were others heading there for similar reasons as the Governor.
Looking at them closely, none were ordinary people—a man dressed as a woman, someone with bandages on his right hand wearing a dark, gloomy coat while chuckling, someone wearing a gas mask and a raincoat large enough to cover their entire body—each with their own strong individuality.
These seemingly unrelated individuals had one thing in common.
They were all heading to Gacha Land.
…
“Gacha pool registration, you say?”
“Yes. Gacha pool registration.”
Sir Dominic expressed his confusion while watching v.a.l.l.o.c. stuff two donuts into his mouth at once.
Today they seemed to be covered with strawberry syrup, as pink syrup was spread over the donuts.
“What is gacha pool registration?”
Sir Dominic thought he had heard about it a few times before, but he couldn’t remember, apparently having forgotten.
v.a.l.l.o.c. looked at Sir Dominic with an expression that said “I figured as much,” then chewed and swallowed the remaining donut debris in his mouth.
“It’s one of the easiest and fastest ways to earn resources in Gacha Land. Conversely, it’s also one of the most difficult and slowest methods.”
v.a.l.l.o.c. still explained ambiguously.
v.a.l.l.o.c. had discovered the pleasure of teasing this clueless Newbie.
“Could you explain properly? I recently learned something—that killing people in Gacha Land is illegal, but if there’s a justifiable reason, it can be considered extenuating circumstances—”
“Ah, right. Got it. Okay. I’ll tell you right away.”
v.a.l.l.o.c. grumbled about not being able to joke around as he watched Sir Dominic threatening to draw his sword.
Whoever corrupted this innocent Newbie, v.a.l.l.o.c. thought, I hope they get hit by a falling flowerpot.
“Gacha Land is full of various game elements, but the basics are still collection. It’s like that. Like collecting stickers that come inside snacks.”
Sir Dominic had eaten snacks since arriving in Gacha Land, but he didn’t understand what v.a.l.l.o.c. was saying.
v.a.l.l.o.c. slapped his forehead with an expression that said “Oh right, he doesn’t know anything,” and began explaining again.
“So, it’s like putting in photos or cards of juniors and drawing them based on probability… Ah, forget it. Just follow me. I’ll explain what a gacha pool is while we do it.”
v.a.l.l.o.c. stuffed the last donut into his mouth and walked out the door.
Sir Dominic followed, wondering why the explanation was so difficult.
v.a.l.l.o.c. crossed the street and headed toward an alley between the Executive branch and System Industries.
As the alley grew increasingly eerie, Sir Dominic wondered if they had taken a wrong turn, but soon v.a.l.l.o.c. stopped, so Sir Dominic stopped as well.
“This is it. The gacha pool registration office.”
Sir Dominic looked around but saw only a narrow alley with moss-covered high walls, a dark dirt floor, a sewer manhole, a trash can full of garbage, and a broken vending machine.
“There’s nothing here, though?”
Sir Dominic looked at v.a.l.l.o.c. with suspicious eyes.
“Have you forgotten what kind of place Gacha Land is?”
v.a.l.l.o.c. grinned as he knocked twice on the moss-covered wall, once on the trash can, and once on the sewer manhole cover with the sole of his foot.
Then the broken vending machine moved sideways, revealing a path.
“Classic but fun trick.”
v.a.l.l.o.c. said as he entered the opened space.
Sir Dominic followed along the path.
Unlike the alley, the opened space was impressively warm in tone.
It gave off a soft feeling, being made entirely of wood.
v.a.l.l.o.c. walked down the worn corridor, avoiding piles of paper stacked in every corner.
Sir Dominic followed the exact same path as v.a.l.l.o.c., but perhaps due to his limited vision in one eye, he kept knocking over the piles of paper stacked on the left.
Finally, reaching the end of the creaking corridor, they came upon a spacious lobby that also had a warm atmosphere from the use of wood throughout.
In the lobby, people were sitting in chairs waiting or conversing with each other.
Sir Dominic was surprised to see what must have been hundreds of people at a glance.
v.a.l.l.o.c., familiar with the situation, pushed through the crowd toward the reception counter where staff were stationed.
“Hey. Long time no see?”
“v.a.l.l.o.c.. How many times have I told you to use the front door instead of the back door?”
A man with an oriental dragon’s head and a long beard glared at v.a.l.l.o.c. with fierce eyes.
v.a.l.l.o.c. whistled at the intense gaze and smoothly continued.
“I know. But I didn’t come through the back door for myself, but for someone else who needed it.”
“Someone else?”
v.a.l.l.o.c. pointed his thumb at Sir Dominic.
“Not only is it forbidden for you to use the back door, but why did you bring someone else through it?”
The dragon’s brow furrowed. His hand was poised to open the desk drawer at any moment, and as he slightly pulled it open, a luminous orb could be seen inside.
“Because he’s a Newbie. Because he’s a Newbie.”
“A Newbie?”
Strong air blew from the dragon’s nostrils.
“That’s different then. Tier 1, I assume?”
“No. Tier 2.”
“Ah.”
The dragon seemed to lose interest immediately and turned his head away.
“Go back.”
“Come on, at least hear me out. He’s been a Newbie for just over a month. But he’s a rookie! Can’t you make an exception for a month?”
“A Newbie for over a month? What nonsense are you talking about, like a unicorn falling for a married woman?”
“It could happen. If you search all of Gacha Land, wouldn’t you find at least one unicorn who likes married women?”
The dragon-headed man sighed deeply.
There must be a reason v.a.l.l.o.c. was so persistent. The dragon began to wonder what it was.
“Bring him over. I’ll talk to him briefly, and if I like him, I’ll help.”
“Thanks. I’ll buy you a drink later.”
“You know I can’t process alcohol. Are you messing with me?”
“Ah, then just eat some side dishes.”
v.a.l.l.o.c. returned to Sir Dominic, who was still looking around the lobby.
“Now go see that guy. He’ll probably register you right away. He’ll explain everything too.”
v.a.l.l.o.c. patted Sir Dominic’s shoulder and smiled brightly.
Sir Dominic, still amazed by the grandeur of this massive wooden structure, looked around as he walked to where the dragon was.
“…Sir Dominic. I couldn’t tell from a distance, but now I recognize you up close.”
The dragon took out glasses from his inner pocket and put them on.
Sir Dominic was surprised that this mysterious and exotic dragon recognized him and asked:
“How do you know me?”
“I have my ways.”
Sir Dominic expected to hear that the dragon had read his mind or used magic, but the dragon’s answer was more realistic.
“I see you often on GachaTube.”
Sir Dominic was disappointed by the not-at-all mysterious answer, but he was curious about the fact that he appeared frequently on GachaTube.
“Why would I appear often?”
“Well, it’s like this.”
The dragon searched for Sir Dominic on GachaTube on his phone.
Videos about Sir Dominic appeared in a row, but Sir Dominic’s gaze stopped on one particular video.
‘The secret to Sir Dominic’s extraordinary success? 115 facts about the currently hot rookie Sir Dominic.’
Sir Dominic was shocked to learn that there were 115 facts about himself that even he didn’t know.
