Ch.589New Update, New Event
by fnovelpia
I was watching the birth of the Blizzard Clan, only to shed tears as they immediately became victims of slander.
Of course, it wasn’t because I felt the slander against the Blizzard Clan was unfair or anything like that.

Snow Leopard, who was appointed as clan leader because “You’re the best commander!”, now desperately wants to escape the clan…
Comments:
-[LOLOL]
-[Every clan needs a leader]
-[Why are they playing such pranks after appointing him themselves?]

“Look at that, Jessica, the poor clan leader.”
“It reminds me of you, Commander.”
The sight of someone being forcibly elevated to clan leader or an equivalent position and suffering because of it felt too similar to my current situation.
No, actually, unlike me who could use my own military power to discipline users…
That poor fellow had to coordinate everything purely through politics, so it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he was even more pitiful with his head about to explode.
So after silently wishing the snow leopard—who had become the equivalent of a group project leader—peace for about five seconds…
I immediately closed that gallery window full of hideous images and decided to leisurely complete some daily quests instead.
But at that very moment, a new event message from the administrators appeared before my eyes.

<General Announcement>
<<<New Update and Event Notice>>>
<Notice to all Commanders!>
<Starting next week, some existing systems will be changed, so please take note!>
<System Change Update Details>
<1. Various events related to Superhumans have been added!>
˪<Events will occur more frequently, resulting in increased interactions.>
<2. The ‘Affinity’ system for Superhumans has been modified.>
˪<Starting next week, Superhuman affinity will change more dynamically.>
˪<Additional events will now occur based on affinity levels.>
<3. Special abilities of some Superhumans have been changed!>
˪<Details of these changes will be sent separately to Commanders who possess these Superhumans!>
…(omitted)…

“Hmm, a system update.”
“There’s quite a lot here, but most of it seems related to Superhumans.”
I was greeted by a long announcement about “various update details related to Superhumans.”
Of course, there were many other system update details as well, but…
“To summarize the updates… basically events related to Superhumans will become more abundant.”
“And they’ve also heavily modified the Superhuman affinity system.”
To summarize briefly, most of the announcement was exactly as I just said—”increased frequency of Superhuman-related mini-events.”
Given that I was already dealing with a bunch of troublemakers, I couldn’t help but feel utterly indifferent about what new events might be coming.
However, as the message title had already indicated, the announcement didn’t end there.

<New Event ‘Battle Tournament’ Announcement!>
<A new quarter has arrived, and we’ve determined that the Commanders’ fighting spirit has grown considerably.>
<We’ve planned a combat-oriented event utilizing the Commanders’ fleet forces!>
<The event will proceed as follows:>
<Regardless of zone, all Commanders will participate in tournament preliminaries.>
<Both preliminaries and main tournament will take place in separate event maps.>
<The preliminaries will be battle royale style, where each Commander selects just one ship for combat during a set time period.>
<After the preliminaries, a separate main tournament will be held.>
<However, due to the large number of Commanders, the main tournament will be divided into random groups of certain sizes.>
<Those who survive the preliminaries will advance to the main tournament with a bye.>
<Event Reward Shop Opening>
<Event points will be awarded for victories in preliminaries and main tournament, as well as various other actions.>
<These points can be exchanged for rewards at the exclusive shop open during the event period, and the shop will remain open for an additional week after the event ends.>
<Caution>
<All battles are only possible in the event map, and PVP is not possible outside the event map.>
<Please note that destroyed ships or deceased Superhumans will not be restored.>
<The above event will begin simultaneously with the system update.>

‘Hmm, interestiiing…’
Perhaps the previous event was too small in scale.
This time they’ve significantly expanded the scale with a battle royale + tournament style major event, which naturally fulfilled my expectations as an observer.
Of course, with rare exceptions, there was the standard “PVP prohibited” clause attached to every event.
And the statement meaning “we won’t restore your ships if they get destroyed, good luck” was proudly displayed, giving viewers quite mixed feelings.
“It’s interesting—the preliminaries are pure battle royale but the main event is tournament style.”
“It feels like something straight out of medieval fantasy.”
Usually with hybrid formats, don’t they typically do the ‘tournament’ first and then battle royale after?
‘Or wait, is the current way correct?’
But thinking about it more carefully, I realized it didn’t really matter.
So with a somewhat indifferent attitude, I decided to check other users’ reactions to this event as I always do.
And naturally, the first place I checked was the reaction from the Hourglass Zone.

<Holy Hourglass Empire Official Chat Room>
<Announcement: New-Event has dropped!>
-[Whoa, event dropped?]
-[Battle royale followed by tournament lol]
-[Won’t there be chaos with that kind of preliminary?]
-[We’ve grown stronger now though]
-[We’re only fighting with one ship anyway, what’s the big problem?]
-[Seems like we just bring our strongest gacha ship, fight, and surrender if we’re about to lose]
-[Or maybe take a common-grade ship, fully upgrade its stealth, and just survive?]
-[Oh]

“They’ve become proper users now.”
“You think so?”
“When they first arrived, they were all ‘Waaah, the Central Zone is too hard!’ But now they’re overflowing with fighting spirit.”
Perhaps it’s because they’ve gained sufficient experience as time has passed, unlike before.
Seeing their unexpectedly fierce fighting spirit, I nodded and closed the chat window.
Then I opened the gallery to check how other users were reacting.
And sure enough…

Title: Looking forward to this update and event—combat after a long time

[Image of a toad grinning]
Honestly, the last event was fun because I got to move around myself
But because of that, my fleet couldn’t do anything, which was kind of boring
It’s about time we had some proper fighting between us lol
Comments:
-[The preliminaries only let you bring one ship, not your fleet though?]
-˪[The important thing is that we’re fighting, right?]
-˪[Agreed]

Since most reactions were just “Wow! Looking forward to it!”
I didn’t feel the need to look further and decided to just wait leisurely for the event to arrive.
