Ch.5757. How Am I Supposed to Kill?

    “Dad!”

    “…Dad?”

    “Yes, our dad.”

When the little girl first uttered the word ‘Dad,’ my entire body tensed up.

I hadn’t made any mistakes since possessing Selden, but how could I know what that rascal had done before I possessed him?

Constantly suppressing my anxiety, I bent down to meet the girl’s eyes.

    “How did you get here?”

    “I came with a poof!”

“Where is the person who brought you to this mansion?”

Then, the little girl pointed directly at me.

    “I came with Dad.”

    “Me?”

“Yes, I came here with Dad.”

    What nonsense is this?

Perhaps because she’s still too young to have developed normal thought processes, the conversation wasn’t progressing. I tried speaking slowly once more.

“When did you come with me?”

    “A little while ago.”

“What should I do about this? I just arrived today.”

“Dad left me here and I’ve been waiting all this time. I haven’t been out for long.”

“What do you mean you haven’t been out for long?”

“Don’t you remember? Dad said I was a good person… so I’ve been waiting quietly without causing any trouble…”

As I listened to the little girl’s words, something suddenly flashed through my mind.

I immediately turned toward the wardrobe.

    Rustle-rustle-!

    Good heavens…

The unidentified egg I had brought to the mansion along with the ‘Raiden Sword.’

I had carefully placed it in the wardrobe, but now it was split exactly in half.

Swallowing hard, I pointed at the split egg.

“Don’t tell me you came out of this?”

“Yes! I came out a little earlier because I thought Dad would want to see me.”

Come to think of it, this little girl had that strange sense of otherness that only magical beasts possess.

Still, since it came from an ancient treasure chest, I didn’t think it would be a weak magical beast, but one that could take human form!?

Magical beasts that can take human form are impossible unless they’re high-ranked.

I used my Insight [Open Eye] skill to confirm her identity.

    *Ding* ♪

    Name: None [Baby Dragon]

    Current Status: Excited.

    ┗Skills: Breath, Meteor, Language.

    D-Dragon?

And skills like Breath and Meteor that could annihilate an entire village in one go?

    *Gulp*

    This felt dangerous.

Right now, she’s in human form and just a newborn baby dragon who knows nothing about the world, but what if she turns bad later and becomes a magical beast that hinders the protagonist, Serion Lykus?

‘Should I deal with her now?’

I looked at the baby dragon with a cold expression.

She smiled brightly at me, knowing nothing.

    …How could I kill her?

As I continued to stare with a hardened face, the baby dragon gently grabbed my trouser leg with her fingers again.

“I’ll… listen to Dad well. Don’t abandon me, okay?”

The rational calculations I had been making crumbled at the little girl’s words.

    I sighed briefly before speaking.

    “Why would Dad abandon you?”

“You won’t abandon me? Right…? Because I’m a good child.”

I was just celebrating how easy dealing with magical beast waves would be if a dragon-level magical beast appeared, but now that one actually has, my mind is in chaos as if my thought circuits have malfunctioned.

    By the way.

A magical beast of this caliber should have appeared in the original novel, so why don’t I remember anything about it?

Dragons don’t appear at all in “The Youngest Son of the Brilliant Family.”

They were merely considered legendary beings, closer to divine creatures than magical beasts.

    ‘Has something else been twisted?’

    It made sense.

If I hadn’t intervened, Princess Sirin wouldn’t have found the treasure, and the ‘Raiden Sword’ and ‘egg’ wouldn’t have come out into the world.

In the end, it’s highly likely that the dragon, which was only considered a legend in the original story, appeared due to the butterfly effect.

    “This is a mess…”

I sighed deeply and muttered, and the baby dragon stared at me and mumbled with her tiny lips.

    “…This is a mess?”

Is this why they say you shouldn’t speak carelessly in front of children?

After checking with my Insight, I realized she had a language skill, so she was quickly learning and repeating what she heard.

Trying to maintain my composure, I shook my head.

    “Forget what I just said.”

    “Okay, forget.”

“By the way, can you transform into a dragon besides taking human form?”

    “I can’t yet because I was just born…”

“Can you use Breath and Meteor even in human form?”

    “Yes, but they’re weaker.”

Since this dragon didn’t appear in the original story, I had to ask about everything from start to finish.

‘Can I really raise her properly?’

If I couldn’t kill her, it would be wise to raise her myself.

If I abandoned the girl because I couldn’t decide what to do, and she fell into the wrong hands and became an evil dragon, who would take responsibility?

I regret thinking ‘I shouldn’t have taken it out of the treasure chest,’ but the water has already been spilled.

With a resigned heart, I gently stroked the hair of the little girl who was making an innocent expression in front of me.

“Sigh… From now on, your name is ‘Lucien.'”

    *

    “Young master.”

    “What?”

    “Please be honest with me.”

    “I’m telling you she’s a dragon.”

Jawill Wilson looked at Lucien once more and then burst into a hollow laugh directed at me.

“Where in this world would there be dragons?”

    “Right here.”

“No matter how much I trust and follow you, young master, isn’t this joke going too far? Do you take me for a complete fool?”

I didn’t respond to Jawill Wilson’s words and looked at Lucien instead.

    “Lucien.”

    “Yes! Dad!!”

“Show Uncle Jawill Wilson a light breath attack. The study shouldn’t burn down, right?”

    “Got it!”

Lucien put her hand to her forehead in a ‘salute.’

She seemed to be imitating Jawill Wilson’s actions from earlier.

    Kwa-boom-!

Lucien slightly opened her mouth, and fire poured out.

When I raised my palm and clenched my fist, Lucien closed her mouth and grinned.

    “Is this enough?”

“Yes, Uncle Jawill Wilson seems very satisfied.”

Jawill Wilson stood rigid as if his entire body had frozen in disbelief.

    He must be shocked.

Even I still vividly remember the shock I felt when I first took Lucien to the forest and saw her Breath and Meteor attacks.

    Moreover.

Despite still being a baby, perhaps because she was a dragon, her learning ability was remarkably exceptional.

It took only three days to teach her honorifics and etiquette so she could appear like a well-mannered noble girl.

“Jawill Wilson, what do you think? Isn’t my daughter amazing?”

“…Young master, when did you mate with a dragon?”

“Hey, can’t you watch what you say in front of my daughter?”

“If she’s your d-daughter, then surely there must be a mother too, right?”

Just as I was about to snap back at the blunt-speaking Jawill Wilson, Lucien jumped into the conversation with a bright smile.

“Dragons aren’t a species that lay eggs through mating. We come into existence according to the laws of nature.”

“Then why do you call the young master father?”

“Because he’s the one who brought me to life with love.”

    Hah…

Is this what it’s like to raise a daughter?

I couldn’t control the corners of my mouth rising every time Lucien spoke.

I wondered if this is how one becomes a doting father.

Lucien explained that when she was still an egg, my energy naturally seeped into her.

Perhaps that’s why she has silver hair and eyes like mine.

And on top of that, her brilliant mind…

Her appearance was small and cute, yet her features were remarkably distinct, almost like a foreigner.

“That’s right, my daughter! You speak so well.”

“It’s all thanks to you, Father!”

Meanwhile, Jawill Wilson frowned as if witnessing something unbearable and raised his voice.

“Let’s say, for argument’s sake, that this child is a dragon. What will you tell other people?”

“Ah, that’s why I called you.”

    “…Pardon?”

“I’d like you to be Lucien’s uncle. As for her living in the mansion, it’s enough that I’ve given permission.”

“W-what uncle am I supposed to be?”

I winked at the flustered Jawill Wilson.

“Man, when else would you get such an adorable niece? Right?”

“So you’re making me lie again!?”

“Jawill Wilson, can you handle the reaction from the Alphonse family if I say Lucien is my daughter?”

    “W-well, that’s true, but…”

“What’s there to worry about? Just tell anyone who asks that she’s your niece. I’ll take care of the rest.”

“No matter how much I’ve followed your opinions without question until now, this is really not right.”

Jawill Wilson’s eyes showed his firm resolve not to yield.

I had anticipated this, so I subtly shifted my gaze to Lucien, made eye contact, and nodded slightly.

    Then.

“Uncle… won’t you do it for me? Father said he’d abandon me if you don’t…”

As Lucien fidgeted with her fingers and whimpered as instructed, Jawill Wilson looked at me and stammered.

    “Y-young master. Abandon her…?”

“If you won’t help, I have no choice. I’ll just have to dump her in the forest somewhere.”

Jawill Wilson pressed his lips together and looked at me with contemptuous eyes before turning his gaze to Lucien.

She still had that expression like she might burst into tears at the slightest touch.

    “Uncle…”

Finally, as Lucien used her finishing move, shaking both shoulders and acting cute, Jawill Wilson’s eyes reddened with emotion.

He immediately knelt on one knee and embraced Lucien.

“J-just trust your Uncle Jawill Wilson to save you from that terrible father!!”
