Ch.54Memory Loss (2)
by fnovelpia
I think I’m not a great person, but rather a fragile one. No, I’m definitely a fragile person.
While walking, I lost consciousness, and when I woke up, I had somehow arrived at the airport. Then Agath spoke with apparent dissatisfaction.
“Does that ring actually work? You said it makes moving your body easier, but why is your physical condition still the same?”
“Covering eight years of lifespan with just one ring is pretty impressive, isn’t it?”
“But it’s serious if you collapse after walking for less than 30 minutes.”
“Remember she collapsed like this before too?”
According to them, I was apparently this frail in the past as well. Then how did I manage to accomplish all those achievements?
I don’t know. I’ll find out everything tomorrow anyway. Let’s just not worry about it.
“Um… when is the plane arriving?”
“It’ll be here in about 10 minutes. By the way, you know you have to take your shoes off when boarding the plane, right?”
“Do I have to?”
“Of course. What, would you board with your shoes on?”
Are you really supposed to take your shoes off? I can’t tell what’s true because I have no memory.
While I was still pondering this, Leo scolded Agath.
“You should know when to stop joking. Do you really want to mess with someone who’s lost their memory?”
“That’s right. We should be as considerate as possible to Lite right now.”
So you’re supposed to keep your shoes on. I thought something seemed off.
“…I’m sorry, I’ll be more careful with my jokes from now on.”
Agath apologized profusely and handed me a 10,000 won bill.
“Um… why are you giving me this?”
“Obviously because you need to tip the flight attendant.”
This is definitely a lie. Would anyone actually fall for something like this?
Still, just to be sure, I glanced at Leo and Rebecca to verify.
“Is 10,000 won the standard tip these days? It was 5,000 won in my time.”
“I sense a generational gap here.”
“You know we’re the same age, right?”
“…Do you really give tips to flight attendants?”
This could be another trick. I shouldn’t blindly believe it.
“You don’t have to give it if you don’t want to. But I won’t be responsible for what happens after.”
It seems like tipping might be basic etiquette. But is it really necessary? Something feels off…
It should be fine. Surely the three of them wouldn’t conspire to trick me? Especially when I’ve lost my memory?
Alright, I’ll give the tip. It’s better for me alone to be embarrassed than for all of us to have an awkward moment.
While I was thinking this, the plane was gradually approaching the airport.
***
These people are truly terrible. How could they do something so cruel to someone who’s lost their memory?
But what makes me even angrier is the fact that I apparently fell for the same tricks before losing my memory.
Why is there no one truly trustworthy around me?
Anyway, I kept my head down in embarrassment until we finally arrived home.
“Is this really my home?”
“What, have you been fooled again?”
“How can you say that after tricking me so well just now? Don’t you feel guilty?”
“It’s the fault of the person who gets fooled.”
I can’t believe someone can be this shameless. There’s no point in engaging further—it’ll just make me angrier. I should just focus on what I need to do.
“So where’s my room?”
“That room over there.”
“Okay, but can I shower first?”
“I don’t mind.”
At least they have enough decency to let me shower first.
So I gathered some clothes to change into and went straight to the bathroom.
***
Soaking in warm water really helped relieve my fatigue. Now I just need to dry my hair and then lounge in bed.
As I was humming and drying my hair, Agath suddenly burst through the door.
“Can I ask you a few questions?”
“Sure, I’ll answer if I remember.”
“How did you feel when you were showering just now?”
“The warm water felt nice.”
Agath smiled mischievously and continued questioning.
“Did you feel embarrassed or excited seeing your naked body?”
“I didn’t feel anything like that. Why would I be embarrassed looking at my own body?”
“Then have you ever been excited seeing your female body?”
“I’m neither a narcissist nor a lesbian.”
It’s strange enough to be embarrassed by your own body, but being excited by it makes absolutely no sense.
By the way, Agath is smiling with satisfaction while holding something in her hand. What is that?
“What’s that in your hand?”
“A voice recorder.”
“And why did you bring that?”
“Obviously to record this conversation.”
“I get that, but why are you recording this conversation?”
“You’ll find out tomorrow.”
Is there some connection between my memories returning and this conversation? Could I really have been a narcissist and a lesbian?
That can’t be right. I’m just an ordinary girl… well, maybe an extraordinary girl.
“By the way, you’re physically and mentally a woman, right?”
“What else would I be, a man?”
“So you’d marry a man in the future?”
“Of course I would.”
Bzzzz!
Suddenly my phone vibrated. Wondering who was calling, I checked the name and saw “Nam Ju-an.”
“Do you know who Nam Ju-an is?”
“That’s your husband.”
“Stop joking and tell me who this person really is.”
“He really is your husband…”
I ignored Agath and answered the phone. It would be faster to just ask this person directly.
“Hello?”
-It’s me. Are you done with work?
A somehow familiar voice came through the phone.
“Um… who is this… ah!”
“Sorry. I’ll explain the situation to him for you.”
Agath suddenly snatched my phone and spoke.
“Lite is under a curse and has temporarily lost her memory. But don’t worry, it should return tomorrow… You were planning to hang out tomorrow?”
Agath continued the call with a somewhat suspicious smile.
“Then just come over. But treat Lite like a woman. And absolutely don’t bring up the past. Why? It’s related to the curse. So no matter what Lite says, don’t tell her anything. Anyway, have fun tomorrow!”
Agath hurriedly ended the call. Is there something about the curse that I don’t know?
“Will the curse get worse if I try to forcibly recover my memories?”
“No. Nothing changes even if you learn about the past.”
“…Then why did you say that?”
“You’ll find out tomorrow. Anyway, your husband is coming here tomorrow. Have fun!”
Agath quickly fled from my room as if escaping.
She told me to have fun tomorrow, but how am I supposed to have fun with someone I don’t even remember?
Moreover, this person is of the opposite sex, not the same sex. That makes it even more awkward. If it were someone of the same sex, we might become friends quickly…
I don’t know. It’ll work out somehow. Let’s just sleep on it and think about it tomorrow.
I changed into comfortable clothes to sleep and took off the ring on my hand. Suddenly my body felt much heavier.
I hadn’t really noticed when I was wearing it, but now that I’ve taken it off, I can truly appreciate how helpful it was. Still, I should be able to sleep well.
***
“Wake up, it’s morning.”
I heard Agath’s voice waking me up. I tried to wake up with difficulty. I’m really tired today…
“I’m up…”
“This is new. Usually you’re the first one up and preparing breakfast.”
“So who made breakfast then…?”
“Obviously Leo did instead… oh.”
Suddenly Agath’s expression darkened considerably. Then, as if steeling herself, she said:
“Brace yourself and come out.”
And Agath walked out of the room like a soldier heading to battle. Is there any reason to be like that over breakfast?
Whatever the case, I quickly got ready and went outside. Then I saw something horrifying.
“…What on earth is that?”
“It’s a sandwich I made.”
“…”
Let me describe exactly what I saw. Between two black lumps was a purple sauce and indescribable layers of… something.
And Leo was eating it as if it were delicious.
“What? Is there something on my face?”
“…No. I’ll try to eat it.”
If he can eat it so well, it should be fine, right? With that thought, I took a bite and experienced an unexpected taste.
I had imagined a sandwich with a strong bitter taste, but what I actually tasted was something worse than food waste.
“…I’m sorry. I really can’t eat this.”
My stomach is churning violently. Thanks to that, I don’t want to eat anything. No, I can’t eat anything.
This is the most horrific experience of my life. Even if my memories return, this will still be the most horrific experience.
Let’s just get ready to go out…
***
After getting ready to go out, I was lying on the bed using my phone when suddenly someone opened the door and came in.
Looking toward the door to see who it was, I saw Agath carrying a bunch of items.
“Hi! I came to help you!”
“…What are those?”
“Cosmetics. Since you’ve lost your memory and don’t know how to do makeup, I’ll do it for you.”
“Um… but I feel some resistance…”
I don’t know why. But my instincts are screaming that I shouldn’t touch those things. So I must avoid them.
“I’m sorry, I’ll just appreciate the thought.”
“Are you really going to meet your friend with a bare face? That’s not polite.”
“That’s true, but something just doesn’t feel right…”
“It’s okay, I’ll be gentle. Just sit still and wait.”
And so I was… no, I was forcibly made up by Agath.
“Done! Take a look in the mirror!”
“I don’t think makeup would make such a big differ…ence.”
It might sound conceited, but my bare face that I saw in the mirror earlier was quite pretty. But now there’s someone much prettier in front of the mirror.
I can’t believe such a dramatic change is possible. I should learn how to do makeup from Agath later.
While I was happily humming and looking in the mirror, Agath suddenly opened my closet door.
“What are you doing now?”
“Obviously picking out clothes for you to wear when you go out!”
“Is that really necessary?”
“Just try them on, you’ll definitely be satisfied!”
Agath was joyfully selecting clothes for me to wear. Why is she going to such lengths?
She must be being considerate because I’ve lost my memory. And her actions don’t seem particularly suspicious.
“Great! Try this on!”
I immediately prepared to change into the clothes Agath handed me.
“…Should I change here?”
“We’re both women, what’s the problem?”
“Well, I guess that’s true.”
As I changed clothes, I could feel an intense gaze from the side. Anyway, I changed my clothes.
When I stood in front of the mirror, I was satisfied with the result. I understood why they say clothes make the person.
Seeing this, Agath clapped her hands and said:
“This is my masterpiece.”
“That’s a bit of an exaggeration, isn’t it?”
“So what do you think?”
“Well… I like it because the clothes are cute.”
I’m definitely very satisfied. But for some reason, I feel resistance. Is it because the clothes are too girlish?
Still, the clothes suit me well, so there shouldn’t be any problem.
Ding dong!
Just as I finished getting ready, the doorbell rang with perfect timing.
“Alright, have fun… no, make sure you charm that boy!”
“Yes, I’ll have fun and come back.”
Leaving Agath who was seeing me off, I went to the living room and opened the front door to find an extremely handsome young man. Is this Nam Ju-an?
“Um… hello?”
But the young man was just staring at me blankly.
“Does my outfit not suit me…?”
“No… no. You’re just so beautiful.”
The young man said with a blush, avoiding my gaze. My face is also turning red. I’m glad I dressed up well.
“Are you Nam Ju-an?”
“Yes…”
And the conversation stopped. I should continue the conversation, but for some reason, my voice won’t come out.
Fortunately, that young man… no, Ju-an broke the silence first.
“Let’s talk while we walk.”
“Okay…”
And so the two of us walked toward a suitable walking path.
