Ch.537Grand Cross is Crying. (2)
by fnovelpia
Meanwhile, as users led by the Justice Clan were toying with the internal defense fleets through mobile warfare…
At the exact moment when the monster forces were demolishing the Grand Cross—with giant tentacles being sucked in and driving the fortress to self-destruction—the Mona Lisa’s Magellan Clan acting as the pillar and the Xenovia Empire were also engaged in fierce combat against the Grand Cross.
However, unlike the pirate alliance who could launch assaults through “gateways” after luring the enemy right to their home base, or unlike the monsters who had developed teleportation capabilities to the point where they could—albeit in a very limited way—teleport even planetary-scale weapons…
Our Xenovia Empire, perhaps because the Grand Cross spawned too far from the capital, couldn’t employ the bait strategy to lure the fortress into range of their main cannons.

Is it because it spawned in a remote area too far from the capital, unlike other locations?
They can’t finish it quickly and keep getting their strongholds terrorized.
Comments:
-[Pure misfortune]
-[That’s pitiful]
-[They’ve already lost three level 8 strongholds to the Grand Cross’s Weldon beams. Must be infuriating]

They were suffering tremendous damage on multiple fronts and continuously expressing their pain.
Of course, such reactions were merely the talk of uninformed regular users.
Regardless of such talk, the Xenovia and Magellan Clan were also showing their own methodical approach to taking down the Grand Cross.

Title: Seems Like the Pan-Xenovia Forces are Going with a Nibbling Strategy?

Content: [Image of hundreds of thousands of carrier-based fighters launched by teleportation from hundreds of Rafflesia II-class assault carriers bombarding targets]
To avoid getting destroyed by the GC Cannon, they’re only deploying fleets below a certain size
Then using those to teleport carrier-based fighters to nibble away at the internal fleets and defense lines
And other clans led by the Magellan Clan don’t want their strongholds and fleets destroyed either
So they’re maintaining sporadic offensives to help support the Xenovia Empire’s attack
Comments:
-[Little by little makes a mountain]
-[But can just a few hundred thousand fighters even take down a single fleet?]
-˪[Seriously… how can that deal any meaningful damage?]
-˪[They’re not using them to destroy the fortress itself, but to clear out the asteroid defense zones forming the outer defense line](Author)
-[Can’t Xenovia deploy their Obsidian Squadron with the Titan Arums to take it down?]
-˪[Unlike the monsters’ Armageddon, they don’t have ships that can block the main cannon head-on, so it’s impossible. Maybe if they deployed the Diamond, a gun ship]

Although their method wasn’t the “passionate soul teamfight” that users wanted, but rather an extremely boring nibbling strategy that was quite deflating…
This gradual erosion of forces was actually faster than the Grand Cross’s ability to replenish troops and defensive facilities.
After about two weeks, when the mobile fortress was left with only its main weapon, the “Grand Cross Cannon,” remaining…
The Xenovia Empire, Magellan Clan, and various other users all launched a coordinated offensive.
Of course, during this offensive, the poor Grand Cross command AI tried to somehow restore its internal forces while simultaneously firing its main cannon, but…

Title: Where the Hell is the Obsidian Squadron?!

What the hell?
Is the faction’s greatest force going down so pathetically?
Comments:
-[What are you talking about? The Obsidian Squadron is fine]
-˪[?](Author)
-˪[<Image of the Obsidian Squadron returning to the Xenovia Empire capital via emergency warp>]
-˪[I saw it myself]
-˪[What the hell?](Author)
-[Oh, the Obsidian Squadron was used as bait to make the fortress waste its main cannon]
-[Thanks to that, other user fleets are now swarming in to beat up the Grand Cross with its internal defenses nearly depleted]
-˪[Brilliant]
—————————————-
The Xenovia Empire, copying the users’ tactics, made the Grand Cross eat crow and take a beating.
==========
And finally, in the case of Humanity…

Title: Didn’t These Humanity Bastards Have Their Jormungand-class Shipyard Destroyed?

Where did all these suddenly come from?
Comments:
-[They repaired that a long time ago]
-˪[More precisely, they had some built before repairs were even completed]
-[They probably did it during the event]
-[But why are they gathering in such numbers?]
-˪[I heard they’re throwing in a level 8 stronghold, then launching a full-scale attack while the fortress’s main cannon is on cooldown]

Title: Today’s Manly Battle
Author: Anonymous

Unmanly style = Luring to home base or continuously harassing until completely ground down
Manly style = Charging straight in as soon as the stronghold gets hit and the cooldown starts
[Image of an annihilation fleet including 80 Jormungand ships, 120+ Ouroboros ships, and various user fleets conducting a group raid]
Yeah
This is what a raid should be
Comments:
-[What the hell]
-[Did they seriously just charge in head-on?]
-[Where did the stronghold gateway assault strategy go?]
-[These crazy bastards]
-[LOLOLOLOL]

With at least twice the numbers compared to other sectors, and given that users essentially were the faction…
As soon as their stronghold was bombarded, they displayed a head-on assault with fleets from approximately 150,000 users.
Of course, the Grand Cross did try to resist in its own way, but…

Title: Current Status of the Grand Cross That Appeared in the Former Earth Federation Territory
Author: Anonymous
Content: [Image of the Grand Cross being concentrated-attacked by a total of 7 million ships, most of them capital ships]
Getting absolutely destroyed by 7 million user ships that swarmed in right after it fired its main cannon, including Jormungand-class ships
Of course, the Grand Cross tried to charge its main cannon to somehow fight back
But between the Jormungands, Ouroboros ships, and users’ annihilation ships and siege battleships grinding planets to dust
Over 80% of those 7 million ships are battleships or larger, so the internal defense fleet and facilities can’t hold out LOLOL
Comments:
-[The thing is, it’s built in the ancient empire style so its defense fleets are specialized for fleet battles]
-˪[But unlike the previous event, cruisers can’t really damage battleships]
-˪[So they’re just getting brutally torn apart by the mindlessly advancing user fleets]
-[LOLOLOLOLOL]
-[The root cause is that their main firepower, beam weapons, are weakened due to power source deterioration in the setting]
-˪[Their solid ammunition weapons are fine, but those aren’t their main firepower, so with users pushing in battleships mindlessly]
-˪[And whenever they find a somewhat decent defensive facility?]
-˪[The battleships just ram right in, then deploy superhumans en masse to tear everything apart from the inside, so they can’t hold out]
-[Poor thing]
—————————————-
That’s right.
While it had insane scale and main cannon performance, its internal capabilities had some loose screws, perhaps due to balance issues or “power source deterioration.”
With factions deliberately ramming in their main ships…
And users’ fleets—featuring ultra-high-performance gacha ships—overwhelming them in sheer numbers…
Before long, Humanity’s Grand Cross also met its demise through black hole critical mass breach.
==========
But unlike the Grand Crosses in each faction’s territory that were either pathetically or brutally beaten…
The situation with the Grand Cross in the central sector was completely different.
