Ch.531Battleship and Big Gun Enthusiasts Weep Again
by fnovelpia
The reason why the battleship enthusiasts ended up whimpering was quite simple.
What was their strategy to begin with?
They planned to have faction delegates and mercenary groups handle the fleet’s small ship forces—essentially serving as meat shields—while their “big and beautiful” large vessels safely fired away from the rear, trying to recapture the glory of the main guns and defense fleets they experienced in Phase 1.
But right after the event started, the approaching enemy fleet operated in a completely unexpected way…

By now everyone has probably experienced it, but the ancient empire fleet that appeared in Phase 2 was different from what we expected.
And what’s that difference? These bastards are teleporting their small ships from their large vessels.
It seems only ships of at least Dreadnought class or higher can do this.
Anyway, the important point is:
Players who naturally planned to send out small ships first and fire from the rear upon hearing “fleet battle” got royally screwed.
Meanwhile, the faction delegates, mercenary groups, and some small ship users that players sent out as tanks had to block everything with their bodies without any fire support while the rear support battleships were getting blown up by torpedo spam from the teleported small ships.
Comments:
-[What the hell, I don’t understand why teleports suddenly appear there]
-[Small ships have worse performance than regular grade anyway, so they can be crushed quickly. What’s the worry?]
-˪[Most players don’t spam S-class ships like you, you inbred bastard]
-˪[Damn, hate seeing gacha-lucky bastards having it easy]
-[LOLOLOLOL]

It was truly unbelievable, but surprisingly, we witnessed ships teleporting right into the middle of our formation.
Naturally, until now, players had the subtle fixed notion that teleportation was only possible for carrier aircraft, missiles, or torpedoes.
As mentioned in the gallery post above, the 1,000-player corps I belonged to also had their main force of large ships and small ship units led by mercenary groups spread out widely…
Before entering battle, I felt something was off after seeing the gallery’s reaction, so I kept my fleet in one tight group, unlike other players…

-[Those bastards are using teleports!!!]
-[Whtthfck]
-[Kyaaaaaaah!]
-[We’re screwed;;]
-[This is small but maybe we should try something else]
-[We’re doomed, ekkung;;]
-[Yeah, good job]

Roughly speaking, the precious large ships with their mobility, armor, and whatnot…
According to the setting of having old power sources, their beams were weak, but the ancient empire’s small ships were perfectly capable with missiles, torpedoes, shells, and so on, inflicting terrible pain on the players.
The problem was that most players suddenly got screwed by the teleport assault.
And as a result, even normal players like me had to hurriedly engage in desperate battles.
-BOOM! BOOM! BANG!
-WOOOONG!
-“23 enemy destroyers approaching from the front!”
-“5 destroyers and 35 escort ships at 8 o’clock!”
-“Enemy fleet confirmed returning to the rear, it’s a small squadron including light cruisers!”
“Leave the rear to Commander Lephan, and Aquarius and Berial, handle the front defense appropriately.”
-“Understood.”
-“Yes, Commander.”
Of course, calling it a desperate battle is just a figure of speech.
“We have the Kraken, the Hresvelgr, and the Urong! What could possibly be the problem?”
“Um… we don’t?”
“That’s exactly it.”
“…?”
Speaking as the player with probably the highest “teleport” proficiency among users, such teleports are always limited to once per day.
Which means…
While other players’ delicate dreadnoughts and battleships were being pummeled by those damn small ships and pushed to the brink of being scrapped…
The enemy fleets that rushed in via teleport had to deal with their power consumption without additional reinforcements against the desperate counterattacks from player ships.
As a result.

-[Damn, Kraken!]
-[The Kraken is here!]
-[Help us, Icarus-sama!]
-[Support is continuously coming from other areas, so users at the center of the battle line, don’t stubbornly hold position, just pull back]
-[Arggghhhh]
—
The enemy teleport assault force, ground down fighting the super-large ships at the center of our battle line, was completely annihilated.
Of course, while we were eliminating those small ships rampaging in the center of our fleet, the enemy fleets also ground down the players’ faction delegates and mercenary groups.

-[We’re still at an advantage]
-[When mercenary groups are annihilated, just terminate the contract and buy again]
-[You demonic bastards!]
-[But it’s true, right? Can’t deny it?]
-[Hmm, it’s an undeniable fact]
—
Regardless.
From the players’ perspective (though some might disagree), faction delegates? Mercenary groups? Those ground down against the enemy’s main force of large ships?
Most thought they could just recruit new ones, so there was no mental damage whatsoever.
Above all, in the current situation, players had an overwhelming advantage.

-[Everyone with Rafflesia-class, teleport assault GO GO]
-[Let’s gooooooo]
-[Yo Icarus, triple teleport is damn cool;;]
-[I’ll make the first strike with strategic missiles and missile swarm](Icarus)
-[The rest of you follow with a second all-out attack](Icarus)
-[Yes, Mr. President]
-[LOLOLOLOL]
-[Oh damn](Icarus)

“Tell Kraken Units 2 and 3 to launch all aircraft for a coordinated attack.”
“Yes, Commander.”
“Unit 1, teleport strategic missiles and missile swarms right into the enemy flagship!”
-“I’ll do exactly that, Commander!”
Unlike before, now that teleport-capable ships like my Kraken have been somewhat released to the market…
When not just three carriers but aircraft and missiles from dozens of aircraft carriers teleported toward the enemy fleet…
Or more precisely, toward the “enemy flagship” (presumably) that had initiated the fleet teleport.
As analyzed, if they were fleet battle specialists, CIWS anti-air systems were limited to just 1-2 on destroyer-class or smaller ships.
Even cruiser-class or higher rarely had more than 3, so the ancient empire had no choice but to take a one-sided beating from aircraft, with no anti-air formation to speak of.
Of course, as I mentioned above.
Whether it was the ancient empire’s concept or not, the dreadnought-class had anti-air systems like CIWS attached at three times the normal amount for a dreadnought.
Our poor little flies, and even the secret strategic missile close-range assault, were intercepted in a very peculiar sight.
Moreover, having invested so much in anti-air capabilities, their firepower and durability were somewhat lacking.

<Grand Cross Phase 2 Event Map Dedicated Chat Room>
-[Ah damn, that flagship, the aircraft aren’t doing any damage]
-[First time seeing strategic missile teleport blocked]
-[Someone stop that thing’s movement!]
-[No way lol]
—
Maybe because it’s directly controlled by the command AI according to the setting.
While leaving the overall battle to other nearby dreadnoughts and battleships, the flagship itself focused solely on anti-air and evasive maneuvers.
From the players’ perspective, it was impossible not to curse in various ways.
But…
-“Commander.”
“Yes?”
-BANG! BANG! BOOM!
-“We’ve successfully destroyed the enemy flagship’s propulsion system, but I’ll have to withdraw now as all ammunition has been depleted.”
“Oh.”
Somehow even more versatile than Hresvelgr’s all-purpose spear, Neranjara quietly broke the enemy flagship’s ankles.
The enemy flagship, suddenly crippled, was pummeled and blown up by our enraged main forces.
